Crazy times out there.

But honestly, times like these just remind me what every day is like as an entrepreneur.

The unknown is always there.

It's pretty isolating.

Lots of stress.

The tough part for me now? Is seeing everyone else have to go through it that didn't ask for it.

I hope this episode helps you through.

I promise I've got your back however I can!

But it doesn't have to.

Also, I discuss the importance of managing expectations!

Excited for you all to hear this one because there are so many different lightbulbs it could set off!

My friend Brian worked on Wall street for 20 years, lived a lavish life, and gave it all up.

Probably hard to imagine for some, which is why so many need this message!

Money isn't everything and eventually it doesn't matter like we think it does.

What I love most about Brian's situation is that he did all this at a time where most people probably think they're stuck.

I gave up my job to do what I love but I was everything but stuck.

This is proof that you can go after what you want in life.

Another fun part of the episode, we discuss how to help kids create healthy habits!

Sadly this is a debate that goes on way too often...

And for the consumer is probably the most annoying thing ever.

Sometimes you hear experts say "calories are all that matter"...

Sometimes you hear experts say "calories don't matter at all"...

Here's the truth that both parties probably don't want you to know!

December is pretty much a joke.

Most kids are on vacation.

Most parents are mentally on vacation.

Parties left and right...

It's easy to think 'I'll just get back on track next year'.

What if we didn't though?

What if those last 3 weeks, we either kept going, or doubled down?

In the last decade, thats almost 6 months of extra work!

Imagine how much further we could be going into 2020...

Did this episode for myself as much as anyone else!

However, I think it can still help others.

Hearing where other people have struggled has always helped me accept where I'm at in life.

I've also heard the term "pain shared is pain divided", which I think is 100% true.

So... here are 9 things I struggle with these days.

These are things I'm working on but would NOT be able to work on them if I didn't know what they were.

If anything comes from this, hopefully its to learn more about yourself!

This is a fun story...

My man Danny Lehr went from teaching PE, to owning a gym, to now owning one of the TOP Fitness lifestyle brands out there!

Anyone in the fitness industry has probably heard of Caffeine and Kilos.

If you're like me, you might not know exactly what they do though.

Is it coffee? Is it shirts?

Its BOTH!

And they're killing both categories.

It's journeys like this though that really show you whats possible when you put in the work.

Danny didn't come from some fashion background, he wasn't raised on a coffee bean farm, he didn't know much about either field.

He got started though.

It's way more mental than we talk about and it also is way more focused on stress than we think.

This episode will hopefully give people a path to relieving some stress in their lives and also give some tips to finding a path they enjoy!

Remember those kids in math class that just seemed to pick up EVERYTHING?

Then theres us still struggling with last weeks assignment...

Fitness works the same way.

Some people will be naturally better based on their background and experiences.

Doesn't mean anything... just how it is.

With that being said, it should be impossible to judge someone on their fitness capabilities or on their health.

We have no idea about their background or experiences.

This episode covers why we shouldn't shame anyone but also how NOT to use this as an excuse for yourself.

We all still have to get through math class even if we weren't a natural at it!

This weeks guest, Ted Ryce, is a Health Coach thats worked with legends like Richard Branson but has also taken his business online to travel the world.

What I love about Ted's approach is that he really focuses on the things that matter with your health.

Things like managing stress and actually sleeping.

The things that don't come in pill form.

It was also cool to hear Ted's perspective on what he noticed about different cultures and the way they take care of their bodies.

You'll definitely want to hear his takes!

Most importantly though, after working with famous celebrities and entrepreneurs, Ted has gotten an inside look at what makes people successful.

What do people do the second they decide to lose weight?

I see it all the time.

Immediately cut out gluten.

Immediately on a strict chicken and broccoli diet.

Immediately all organic foods.

So many people are doing these things as if thats why they gained weight...

Truth is... weight loss comes down to calories in vs. calories burned.

So... sure, doing those things might help reduce calories...

But its not necessary.

Let's talk about what is necessary for weight loss in this episode.

We dive deep into what it means to be TRULY fit and why it has nothing to do with how much weight you can lift.

We discuss all the different aspects of fitness and how to incorporate them into your game.

Timestamps:

8:30- what makes a great training program

11-how to structure a program

14:50- why only focusing on strength is missing the big picture

24:40- do things you're not great at in the gym

31:40- the new big 3 lifts that we should all be doing

37- workouts we should stay away from

Social media has helped me in a lot of ways and I believe theres a lot of good in it.

The downfall is that it causes a lot of us to compare ourselves and our lives.

It also causes us to create false expectations of what our lives should be like.

I wanted to talk about how to get over this in todays episode.

Hope it helps!

Had a post blow up on Instagram this week that I figured I'd expand on.

It talked about how we all think 6-12 months is way too long to learn how to eat right or learn how to exercise but also talk about how fast the last 6 months have gone by.

Lets change that.

To respect his time and yours, I tried to narrow it down to communication, programming, and the keys to behavior change.

WHAT WE DISCUSS:

-Finding your why

-How to be a better communicator

-Communicating with family members that are unhealthy

It's called "behavior change" and this other one called "your habits".

The kids on the street are calling them "easy wins"....

In this episode we're talking about why its important to be aware of what you do often and why body transformations take longer than people make it seem.

Last weekend we saw Anthony Joshua come into the boxing ring looking like whats his name from the movie 300...

and we saw him get knocked out by someone who looked like he hadn't worked out in years.

What does this tell us?

That performance and aesthetics are two different things.

Two things that require different training and are different types of goals.

Not to mention... neither of them can be considered pinnacles of health.

Getting hit in the head definitely isn't the healthiest.

In this episode we talk about the differences between all three points of the triangle of results.

I re-arranged my podcast schedule for this one, man.

It just felt right.

This is not about any type of workout and has nothing to do with food either.

It's about something more important...

Figuring out WHO you are and WHAT you stand for.

I've been there myself, searching for my purpose, trying to figure out what I'm here for.

My good friend Kyle Mauch is here to tell us why searching for your purpose is stupid.

Kyle is the Owner of Athletes Brand, an Agency focused on helping Athletes figure out what they stand for and use their brand to make an impact.

Although he focuses on working with athletes, this is something I truly felt like we could all benefit from.

This is something that really hit me the other day...

An ad popped up for a photo filtering app and it said "Want your selfies to look better?"

Which made me think "why would anyone want to look different than themselves?"

Obviously though, this is a big issue and I just want more people to take some time to think about it.

Instead of wasting time trying to get pictures to look a certain way...

why not work on accepting who you are and loving who you are?

I resonate a lot with this though.  I spent a lot of time wishing I was someone else. That's changed now and I can't tell you how good it feels.

You know that, right?

Miss me with all that "I'm just not a gym person" or "I'm always late" or WHATEVER negative labels you have for yourself.

You know why you're that way?

Because you say you are.

You know how to change that?

By saying something else and mapping your actions to your new identity.

Many of us are not able to sustain a healthy life because we never make it our identity.

Sometimes I can't believe all this podcast stuff is free.

My friends, this episode could EASILY change your life and the way you deal with everything in it.

We spend so much of our life trying to avoid all of our emotions or run away from them.

Think about how much we do to escape our feelings.

What if it didn't have to be that way.

What if we saw our emotions and pain the same as just taking a poop?

We don't get black out drunk every time we feel like we have to poop, right?

We just pass it through and move on.

Imagine if we did that the next time we felt a negative emotion?

This weeks guest, Rachel Kaplan, is a Psychotherapist teaching us exactly how to do that!

I'm so excited for you to hear this one!

IN THIS EPISODE YOU WILL LEARN:

-Why we struggle to deal with our emotions

-How to get good at dealing with pain

-Why we need to get curious about our feelings

Rachel has also been kind enough to give us access to a quiz where we can start to figure out where we need to get started on this journey: www.yourcorewound.com

-The issue with the "bro split" that everyone does while lifting

-How to bulk up without getting fat

In this episode she shares all the tips and tricks that players use to break a mental sweat and perform their best.

I loved this episode because sports can easily be translated to just another metaphor for daily life.

You're going to have failures, you're going to have successes, etc.

Why not learn how the best performers in the world deal with these situations?

IN THIS EPISODE WE DISCUSS:

-What a Mental Skills coach is

-How to journal effectively

-How athletes deal with constant failure

-Negativity bias and learning to "hunt the good stuff"

-The benefits of mindfulness

Looking for the quick fix.

Wanting results in a week or a month.

I get it!

I'd like to start a business and become a millionaire in a month too.

But anything great takes time.

Also, weight loss is not as simple as "sweating it out".

This is a process of breaking down old habits and building up new ones.

In this episode I discuss why this stuff takes time.

The word "life hack" is a pretty popular term these days.

It's something I got from Tony Robbins' book "Awaken The Giant Within" and it's truly been a game changer.

Les has started making more beauty content and overall wellness content but that doesn't mean she stopped being fit and living healthy.

My friend Andrew Saldana is the owner of Fit Bar Cafe.

Lately there's been a, sort of, health trend where evvvverything our ancestors did is "cool" now.

Seriously.

It seems like everyones explanation these days is "our ancestors have been doing it for years".

So, you're telling me Caveman Jack knew more about the human body than every living person today?

Come on man...

Here's my take on it...

Let's be real, if you want to have any sort of success with your nutrition, you have to make your own food.

Eating out all the time is just too inconsistent.  You never know what you're going to get and it's so easy to pile on the calories.

If you're like me though... cooking is the LAST thing you want to do!

I seriously avoided eating healthy because I thought I would never be one to actually cook their own food.

This weeks guest, Mason Woodruff, has figured out how to make this stuff SIMPLE and DELICIOUS!

Seriously, don't go to his page hungry because you will never leave!

Mason is a trainer turned full-time food blogger that knows how to make healthy food and make it simple.

He has a whole page of recipes you make in a mug in the microwave...

IN THIS EPISODE WE DISCUSS:

-Why the nutrition protocol doesn't really matter, its more what you can actually do

-Finding healthy foods that are close to what you eat now

-The keys to learning how to cook

-His easiest recipes and some underrated substitute ingredients

Probably....

Just quit, right?

I mean your plan isn't working, so going back to doing nothing should work, huh?

How dumb does that sound?

Yet.... how many of us are doing that constantly?

Also... how many freakin quesitons am I going to ask here?

There's one more for ya.

Really though, this is something we need to change.

If we just stopped quitting and resorting back to old habits so often... we'd be in such a better place.

In this episode I discuss what to do when things aren't working... instead of just quitting.

Hopefully this episode gives you confidence in your health journey this year.

Isn't it crazy that you could try to make the NFL for your whole life and most likely it won't pan out?

Isn't it crazy how you could pour millions of dollars into a business and it may not work out?

Wanna know what's even crazier?

Eating in a calorie deficit is GUARANTEED to lose you weight.

Eating vegetables is GUARANTEED to benefit you.

Lifting weights is GUARANTEED to build muscle.

Of course, some of us may have tried these things and failed but that's ok.

This just means you weren't doing them right!

And that should be comforting!

You could be doing EVERYTHING right and still not make the NBA.

You could be doing EVERYTHING right and your business still may suck.

"No Doctor's opinion is set in stone" - Zach Smith(@zachthept)

Have you ever suffered a tough injury?

Ever dealt with any nagging pain?

A lot of us go through life dealing with injuries or chronic pain.  Some of us have even been told by Doctor's that we are out of luck and just have to deal with it.

This episode will empower you to think otherwise!

I had the pleasure of having one of my best friends, Zach Smith, on to talk about his journey and I know it can help a lot of you.

In our early High School years Zach suffered a very serious back injury. One that led a Doctor to say that he would never play sports again, or do much of anything that was active.

Zach refused to take this answer and after putting in the work through months of physical therapy, was able to go on to win two State Championships in triple jump and long jump.

This journey is what ultimately led Zach to become a Doctor of Physical Therapy and dedicate his career to helping others overcome their injuries and achieve the level of movement that we all deserve!

I'm super excited for you to hear Zach's story and learn more about physical therapy and movement!

IN THIS EPISODE WE DISCUSS:

-Zach's story to becoming a Physical Therapist

-Tips for staying disciplined in your life

-What Zach wishes more people knew about Physical Therapy

-Why you should be doing a variety of movement

Does the fitness industry ever make you kinda... not want to work out?

Sometimes I can't stand it.

It's why I never saw myself having a career in fitness.

Then I thought... well maybe I can help facilitate some change.

This is why I brought on my guest, Chris Colditz aka @coldcutz20 this week.

To bring another perspective on and show you that it doesn't have to be that serious!

Chris talks about how he went down the route of being a competitor and realized being shredded wasn't as cool as it looks.

We also talk about how he doesn't work out how everyone expects him to, he does what he loves.

For him, that's jumping.

Hopefully you take away from this that fitness doesn't have to be all about bench pressing and taking shirtless selfies!

It can be whatever you want it to be.  Whatever makes YOU feel good!

Why can't you start something now?

What is stopping you besides the fact that the year is going to change?

My friends, if you get one thing out of this episode I hope its that you stop underestimating what you can accomplish in a short period of time.

Don't let up!

Probably one of my favorite interviews!

It's not often we get to hear from someone that went out and TRIED to get out of shape...

Not only that but its not often we get to hear about the weight loss process through the eyes of a trainer!

It's easy to focus on the external benefits of eating right. And sure... it helps a lot with that. What about how it affects your mood though? And what about how over time that can actually change who you are? This is something I don't think is talked about enough and I wish it was. Think about those grumpy people you know in the world... I guarantee their diet is trash. Guarantee it!! It's insane to me to think that just by changing the things you eat, you could literally become a new person. One of the biggest changes I've made in my life was who I let influence my life. Growing up, like most people. I was obsessed with pro athletes and music artists. I wanted to be like them, so whatever they did, I would try to mimic. I think to a degree we've all had something like that. Maybe its a celebrity that you follow. Subconsciously, they're having an impact on how you're living your life. Whether you want it to happen or not. It's happening. So, I just ask that we take some time to evaluate this. Who do we idolize and why? For me, I started to look at people who were doing great things for the world and tried my best to be more like them. I think that same effect can help a lot of other people too. You're listening to this podcast though, so I know you're on the right track!

As we all know, often too much of a good thing can turn bad. Lately, I've noticed this with a lot of the information out there on Instagram. There's so much of it and it's typically good information but that doesn't mean it's good for YOU and YOUR GOALS. My goal with this episode is to get you to put everything into context before you take what people say as common law. If your issue is putting on muscle and gaining weight... all the posts on how to cut calories probably aren't great information for you. Doesn't mean they aren't useful. Just not really for YOU! And that's what I want more people to stop and think about. Think, "where am I at in my journey?", "what is my goal?", and "how does this piece of information help me get there?" Hope this helps!

Something that I think is largely overlooked in the health and fitness space is learning to accept yourself and knowing that you're good enough. I see so many people in this space taking steroids and doing stupid stuff... all for what? To get some bigger muscles? I'm sure anyone whose done anything dumb like that will tell you now, they wish they would've just learned to accept themselves in the moment and kept working. And this isn't to say that you cant change where you're at. I think people get it confused sometimes, like they should settle for being overweight. Thats not what this is. Have you ever felt like this whole fitness thing is kind of out of reach? Like you could NEVER live like one of those shredded bodybuilders out there? Well there's good news... YOU DON'T HAVE TO! This week's guest, Sarah Duff, and I were on the same page with this and it's probably why we talked so long lol. Plus she's just freakin hilarious. Really though, Sarah made some incredible points about how all we are used to seeing when we think "fitness" is the ripped fitness models. No one is really out there showing anyone the middle-ground happy place! That's where Sarah and I come in. Because in all honesty, no one NEEDS to be shredded like those fitness models. Be honest with yourself for a second. Whats the thing thats really holding you back from living healthier? Call it whatever you want to call it, its some form of fear of failure. You're afraid what people will think of you at the gym when you fail. You're afraid to fail at a new diet. You're afraid of commitment. Whatever.... its fear of failure. I want you to rethink this though. Because you always get over failing. Everything you've ever done started out as a failure in some way. But you got over it. Regret is a little more difficult. Regret is the worst feeling in the world because theres nothing you can do about it. So, when you go into something and you're afraid to fail, think about how much worse its going to feel when you regret not trying. Thanks so much for listening! Episode 27, the day after my 27th birthday?!? ARE YOU SERIOUS Dick Vitale voice The podcast that got me into podcasting was Lewis Howes' "The School of Greatness". It's a goal of mine to one day make a big enough impact that he'll want to have me on his show! So, why not start practicing now?! haha One of my favorite parts about his show is the "3 truths" question. The question is something like "picture you are on your death bed and everything you'd done in life was erased. All you had was a pen and paper for people to remember you by. What would the 3 truths about life be that you write down?" So, as I stand here today at 27 years old, here are my 3 truths! Hope you enjoy! Honestly, you don't need any more fitness advice. You don't need any more healthy food options. If you aren't seeing results in your health, you really just need to believe in yourself. More and more, this is what I'm realizing it truly comes down to. And this is something I feel like I'm one of the best at. I've always had the belief when it comes to fitness, which then helped me transition to also becoming healthy. Where I struggle is believing in myself in other areas. Money, for instance. It's just something I've never had built into me. I know its something I can work on though. What I wanted to do here was take you through the steps I'm using to build my self conscious belief when it comes to money to help you build yours when it comes to health and fitness(did that make sense?).
