In this episode, we had the honor of chatting with Maurice Henderson, Senior Advisor, U.S. Department of Transportation and advisor to Secretary Pete Buttigieg. We are lucky that Maurice and his wife, MaryClare live in Bend.
This is a meaty episode of what Oregon and specifically Bend will gain from the bipartisan infrastructure bill that was signed on Monday of this week.
Thanks to Maurice for coming on the pod!

Join us this Sunday morning for Episodes 5 & 6 - Episode 6 is with @olivertatom who is a nurse and running for Deschutes County Commissioner. We talk about what the commission does for the county and Oliver’s thoughts and ideas for the role.
Note: Politics, civil service, advocacy at its heart is about relationships and building community in order to collaborate and serve the community better- campaigns are coming on the scene as we move closer to November 2022 and the three of us naturally have friendships with some of the candidates and that’s our biased action in this episode and most likely future episodes with candidates.
We have invited Commissioner DeBone to come on as well and he accepted, and that episode will be coming in a few weeks.
We hope that this is a relaxed way to get to know candidates and people serving our community. Please let us know if you have guests you want to hear from in the future.
In this episode of The State of Bend, we're talking housing, specifically HB 2001, which is a legislative bill that expands housing options for the state of Oregon and then directs cities to expand their own building and zoning codes. The City of Bend now permits cottage clusters, quadplexes, etc which creates more options between an apartment and a single-family home.
In this episode of The State of Bend, we get to sit down with LeeAnn O'Neill (she/they), Managing Partner of Allyship in Action, they are with the nonprofit Bend Bikes and leads the transportation committee for the city of Bend's transportation bond that passed last year.
We chat about LeeAnn's work as a DEI consultant, the status of the transportation bond, and salsa.

Another doubleheader weekend! We had an awesome chat with Chris Boyd, Principal at the new @calderahighschool.
I was so impressed by Chris’ dedication to the students and the innovation going on at Caldera. He pointed out that the 9th graders coming in this fall haven’t had an uninterrupted year since they were sixth graders.
@calderahighschool ribbon cutting is October 21st - there’s a BBQ outside and then the ribbon cutting at halftime. Bring your family, masks and let’s celebrate community together.
Help us grow our small civics podcast by rating, reviewing and subscribing. We don’t speak for the City of Bend, we’re just three friends chatting about the city we love and we believe government should be accessible.
