We want to thank you — all of our listeners —for taking the time to be here with us today. This is so important, and we commend you for taking these steps towards deepening your knowledge with homeopathy. This will help protect you and your family and your loved ones. So, welcome!Joette:Knowing how to use these medicines will keep you not only on par with what's going on in your family on a day-to-day basis, but as you age, it keeps you relevant.“Grandma, what do I do for a back that aches?” “Grandma, my ear hurts. What should I do?”That's where we want to be. We want to be in that position as we age.Kate:All right, so today we're going to talk about back pain. So, Joette, let's just dive right in. Tell us about what we can do when we have the pain in our back. And maybe it's something that's just mildly irritating, or maybe it's something debilitating that stops us from our daily lives. And I also want you to talk about thinking outside the box and what might be causing the back pain. Because sometimes, it truly might just be muscles or something with our spine, but it could also be some other things. So maybe let's start there.BACK PAIN CAUSED BY KIDNEY ISSUESJoette: (02:29)Yeah, let's start with that because it could be the kidneys. If you know where your kidneys are — and you should know where they are — it's the rather lower back right around the waist on either side. And … could be kidney stones. Could be kidney colic (which doesn't really tell us much of anything. It just tells us that there's pain in the kidney or kidneys). Could be a kidney infection, and that's something that we don't play around with. You want to make sure that that gets attention right away. But you can also get back pain — I know this is going to sound strange to some people — from eating foods that are not good for you. Some people are so sensitive to wheat that if they eat a sandwich, they get back pain. And that doesn't mean that they've had it all their lives like that. Could have just been developed since they were given antibiotics. Because antibiotics are often the cause of food intolerances — subsequent food intolerances — after their use.So, it could be any of those.BACK PAIN FROM DEHYDRATIONJoette: (03:29)And interestingly, years ago, I was in my thirties,

We're so glad that you've joined us today. We love that you're here and are so excited about your homeopathy journey. So, thanks for being here.Today, we have a special treat. Joette is going to be talking to a special guest, so I'm just going to let her take it away.Joette: Thanks, Kate. So, I'd like to introduce Kirsten Decca.I've gotten to know Kirsten pretty well through the last few years because she's been a student of mine for some time. She joined The Academy — and we're going to hear all about that — and then, she went into the next year, the Mastery™ program. And now, she's in our Mastermind program, and I really wanted you to hear her story. So, welcome, Kirsten.Kirsten:Thanks, Joette. It's a pleasure to be here. Thank you for having me.Joette: Yeah, this is going to be good today. So, I'm interested in knowing — as many people are — a little bit about your life, what you do and what brought you to homeopathy.WHAT BROUGHT KIRSTEN TO HOMEOPATHY? PEDIATRICIAN PUSHBACK AND PIZZAKirsten: (02:04)Okay. Well, I'm a mom of six. My husband and I live here in the northwestern part of Florida. My husband is retired Air Force, and we have moved up here kind of out into the country. We have a little homestead, and we raise chickens, and we have dogs and some goats and horses. My journey to homeopathy is interesting. I have a background in health care. I'm a licensed physical therapist assistant. Although I'm retired, I haven't been in a clinic for probably, oh gosh, over 20 years now. But I've always loved anatomy and physiology. I'd like to say health care, although I feel different about what it actually is now.But my dad was actually a pharmaceutical rep, so I was raised with drugs. They were everywhere. It's just what we did. In fact, I didn't really know that there was even another way. If you were sick, that's just what you did.You took a pill. Or actually, we used to have — I don't know if you remember Kaopectate®, Joette. You remember?Joette:I do.Kirsten:So, we used to have it everywhere. And I don't know why I thought it tastes good, but we would just drink it. We would go sneak it out of my dad's samples and take Kaopectate. I don't know how we ever went to the bathroom. But anyway, so to say that drugs were commonplace is just an understatement.I went to school to be the physical therapist assistant.

Well, let's examine that today on this podcast. We're so glad that you joined us. I'm Kate, and I'm here with Joette.Joette:Hi, Kate.Kate:Hi! I want to start with the basics. Joette. It seems like every year, especially in the fall, people can expect to get a cold. What do you think about that?Joette: Well, it's called a cold for a reason, in my estimation. It's because, generally, it's the shift in weather. The weather gets cold, or, even if you're not in an area where the weather gets cold, there's a shift — an environmental shift. And it has been commonly understood that if someone gets a chill that they, you know, “Put your hat on, or you'll catch your death of cold!”Well, I believe that that can be so. You can get quite sick if you get a chill … especially after you've been perspired or children running around in a playground or a park or something. And then they get a chill, And often, that's what can lead to this. So, I believe that it does have something to do with the environment. But now, I also believe that it has to do with immunity. Now, when we say “immunity,” I don't mean immune from bugs necessarily.I believe it has more to do with the terrain.WHAT IS THE TERRAIN?Joette: (02:20)What is the terrain? Well, it's making sure that there's strength in that terrain. And the terrain is upon which the person is depending to get through those times when their body might need to make a shift, like releasing toxins, et cetera. So, let me be more specific. I believe that if germs are ever-present — and that's the way people see them — then why is it that people only get germy colds and flus at a certain time of the year? Pretty much it's only in the fall, sometimes in the winter — January, February. (I’m talking about those parts … I'm talking about the U.S., but also in Europe, et cetera.)When that cold comes — that cold weather comes — and now are the germs more virulent? Do they get excited and start hopping onto people? Or are the germs always there, and those who have a good immune system are able to fend them off?THE IMMUNE SYSTEMJoette: (03:22)Well, if that's so, then why are we even looking to germs? Why are we not looking to the immune system or the ability to be able to withstand an onslaught of this or that? Why not just count on that to start? So,

Today's guest is someone I've known for years, and I'll let her tell you more about that. But let's just say that what she's accomplished in the past four years has been amazing. I can't wait for you to hear her story. She will share some dramatic stories using homeopathy and some tips on studying homeopathy. So, with that, everyone meet Susan.Susan:Hi Kate. It's great to get to chat with you today, and I was so happy to get to meet you in November in Florida.Kate:Yes, it was great!Susan: And it's amazing how a few years have changed so much for us.As you said, my name is Susan. And my husband and I have been married for 39 years, and we have three sons and four grandsons. We love to be outside, and we love to go camping and cook our food in the Dutch oven and just take our books and relax. And my passion had been homeschooling my children. And when they grew up and left home, it was a very good opportunity for me to plunge into studying homeopathy. That has become my passion.Kate: Tell me, Susan, how did you first hear about homeopathy? Because I know we connected in a Gateway to Homeopathy study group years ago, and that's how we first met. But how did that come about?FROM CONVENTIONAL MEDICINE TO HOMEOPATHYSusan: (02:43)Well, like many other people, I had a lot of health problems, and I had a team of doctors working on my conditions, and I was getting some help. They did the best they could. They offered me a handful of prescriptions, and I said, “No, thank you.”And my doctor said, “I know. These come with many potential harmful effects.”So, I had ongoing fatigue and many food intolerances. Anything I ate would upset my stomach. I began listening to medical seminars and searching for answers: why I would have such painful fatigue,

This is my PRACTICAL Homeopathy®.INTRODUCTIONKate: (01:30)Hi, Joette. We're here in another podcast, and I want to know what's on your mind. What would you like to talk about today?Joette:Hi Kate. A couple of things. I like to be able to discuss things that I think are going to be the most useful for the largest number of people.HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR A REMEDY TO ACT?Joette: (02:00)One of the things I want to talk about is how long does it take for a remedy to act? I hear it often. And given this background: that there are thousands of conditions. Some say there are about 6-10,000 human sufferings/diseases (maybe it's closer to 6,000). And there are just about equally the same number of homeopathic medicines. Now, we're not going to cover all of these human conditions, and we're certainly not going to be talking about 6,000 homeopathic medicines. But given that there's such a grand landscape, we have to get what can seem complex (because it's so voluminous) and focus it down so that it makes it easier. And so, when someone asks me, “How long does it take for a homeopathic medicine to act?” It depends on a number of factors. The first one is, is this condition that the person is about to approach an acute or is it a chronic? and that really matters. Now, sometimes, it's a species of both. But let's not go with the outlier. Let's go with something that's pretty obvious. For example, you're driving home. And you're in the car and suddenly — here's the key word —suddenly you feel ill. Something's wrong. “It feels like maybe I caught something.” That kind of feeling. “I feel as though something's going on in my sinuses or my chest, and I feel weakened.” And you were just caught in the rain the day before or the night before, and it feels as though you're going to be strapped with a flu or a cold or something. That is an acute. Because if you left it alone, you would not have it if you took nothing, and you just went to bed when you got home — which is not a bad idea. But if you did nothing, it's not going to live with you for the rest of your life.

We love our community and are so thankful you've joined us today.I'm here with Joette, and she's going to share some simple but important health tips that you are going to use to learn how to become a detective and connect the dots and discover clues that will help guide you to the right homeopathic medicines. But first things first. Sometimes, we forget to begin with the simple things, the things that are right in front of us. Maybe it's not even homeopathy! You all know we get excited when we learn homeopathy, and we can have a tendency to just jump right to homeopathy, But we really should consider some of the basics. We were talking about this the other day, Joette, and you had some really good ideas toward that end.Joette: Hi, Kate.Well, these are not unusual ideas. They're more gentle reminders. Good health is a daily practice. And instead of thinking of it as, “I'm doing this for my health,” just make it part of your … if not daily, at least a number of times per week for some of these things. So, some of them are so simple that it's going to seem kind of strange that we even mention it.WALKINGJoette: (2:51)And one of them is just walking — making sure you're getting some exercise in. And if you can walk barefoot. Walk barefoot in your garden, walk barefoot in the park if you can take the shoes off.A lot of shoes, I hate to say it, are made in China. And we don't know what the ingredients are in the inside of those shoes. And do we want to absorb something in the bottom of our feet? Especially where we are supposed to be releasing those elements or toxins, for example, out of the bottom of our feet. Do we want that to be touching some kind of a plastic or a formaldehyde or something like that? So, walking barefoot … walking barefoot, even around the house.Kate:

I still like to get out in the outdoors. I've always been an outdoors person, so I like to ski. I like to paddleboard but prefer to kayak. I'm a little bit faster on the kayak than the paddleboard.I boat; I hike; I walk every day.I just like to be outside, and a lot of things come to me when I'm outside. So, I've found some animals in distress when I'm out there, and I've been able to help them. Also, I hike a lot with my family, so I'm always carrying remedies and always prepared for whatever comes at us.

This is the medicine you’ve been searching for – my unique brand of homeopathy — PRACTICAL Homeopathy®.Whether you have tried homeopathy in the past and were frustrated, or you are examining the possibilities of caring for your family yourself for the first time — you’re in the right place. In this podcast, I will offer you my decades of clinical experience as a practicing homeopath and years of teaching tens of thousands of students, so that you can become the hero of your family and community. This is true health freedom, my friends. This is my PRACTICAL Homeopathy®.INTRODUCTIONKate: (01:30)Hi, Joette.Joette:Hi, Kate.Kate: Hi. We've got so much information to cover today. So, let's get going. Today, we're going to talk about emergencies and a great remedy to have on hand. So, Joette, I think we should start out by first talking about what is an emergency — or how are we defining an emergency?Joette:When you think about the very nature of an emergency is that you don't know it's coming. You don't know when it's going to happen. It comes out of the blue. And given that makes it an unknown, it requires something important. What is that? That we plan in advance? That we're prepared in advance. So, if there's anything we know in life is that we will encounter an emergency at some time. Someone is going to get a burn, a stomach flu, someone's going to sprain their ankle. So, it would behoove us to not only know the medicines for the most common emergencies but also to own them in the corresponding potencies. Know exactly what the medicine is and have the right potency on hand.Kate: So, Joette, yeah, how can people do that? I mean, that's the next question, right? KNOW THE MEDICINES FOR THE MOST COMMON EMERGENCIESJoette: (02:50)Yeah. The way they do that — the way I did it when I was first learning homeopathy — was that I figured what were the most likely emergencies to occur with my family at that time with only one child, and then I chose medicines accordingly. So, until we get to that point, though, when we're unprepared, we worry all the time: that the child will get sick, that the child will get strep throat or chickenpox or conjunctivitis or something like that. But we should not worry because these illnesses — especially childhood diseases — are not what the most concerning aspects of childhood are.The real concern that mothers should have are the dangers to babies and children due to accidents. So, we've got two categories that I like to look at.Number one: regular childhood illnesses. And we need to know how to deal with these to make the mother less worried.

I am super excited to talk today about connection. That's one of the things that we're going to share with you today, and it's been one of the most important parts of my life throughout the last, I would say, 5 to 10 years. Because I've met dear friends from all over the world, and these women — these beautiful women — have become a part of my life — an integral part of my life, actually. And I don't know what I would do without them.I met many of my dearest friends through Gateway to Homeopathy study groups, and it's just been an amazing relationship that I've had. And it sounds funny to say, but some of my closest friends are really all over the United States and the world. And so today I want to introduce you to two beautiful women who have met in study groups, actually through the Academy of Practical Homeopathy®. And so, I want to welcome you to the podcast. Robin and Katie, welcome.Robin and Katie:Thank you. Thank you. Great to be here.Kate:So, I want to get to know you just a little bit. Robin, tell us a little bit about yourself.Robin:So, my husband and I, our two boys, we are in southeast Idaho. Picked up and moved from California about three years ago and randomly showed up in a town called Pocatello. Love it here and love being able to dive into homeopathy. We are very much of a people who like to take ownership of our health and of our lives, and so we take the time to really dig into that. But for a while, I just didn't know why we were even here. And here we are, and I've been able to meet Katie, and it's been a blessing to be here.Kate:Yeah. So, now you know one of the reasons that you ended up there, maybe.Robin:Exactly. It was so random, but here we are.And with that, too, Academy of Practical Homeopathy® — both Katie and I joined last year. So, it has been a fun ride. We'll dig into that a bit during this podcast.Kate:Okay. Katie, tell us a little bit about you.Katie:I grew up in a very remote town in Idaho. We didn't have a doctor. We didn't have a hospital anywhere nearby. The nearest large town that we could even go Christmas shopping was three hours away.Kate:Wow!Katie:And so we learned to be our own doctor, to tend our own things, our own injuries, our own illnesses. And I'm so glad that we learned not to rely heavily on t...

Women and men worldwide are taking back control of their families’ health and learning how to heal their bodies naturally, safely and effectively.   So, if you’re hungry to learn more, you’ve come to the right place. Stay tuned as we give you the tools — and the inspiration — you need as I share my decades of experience and knowledge using this powerful medicine we call homeopathy.   Kate:  Hi, this is Kate, and I want to welcome you back to the Practical Homeopathy® podcast. I'm here with Joette today.   Hi, Joette!   Joette:  Hi, Kate, always great to talk like this.   Kate:  Yes, we have so much fun on these podcasts.   Today, we are going to be talking about what it's like when you first start using homeopathy, and you are so excited. Right? You finally found homeopathy, and you're so excited. You're trying it for some conditions, and it’s working.   And now, you want to treat everything, right?   Joette:  Now let's make our bodies perfect and live forever.   Fictional Girl Named Maddy   Kate:  Right.   So, what we're going to do today is we're going to talk about this fictional girl named Maddy. I'm going to give you an example of a case, Joette.   We see this all the time. I'm sure you do. I hear people in the Study Groups who get excited, and then they want to treat everything. They want to heal every single symptom that they have, their family members have, their friends have — which is great, right?   Joette:  But enthusiasm needs to be tempered sometimes, and we have to pull back and be a little more logical.   Kate:  We're going to flesh this out. I'm just giving you an example, Joette.   Maddy has osteoarthritis, right? She has pain in her joints. She has food intolerances which gives her bloating and gas. She has alopecia so maybe some thyroid issues. She has white spots on her nails. She's 20 pounds overweight. She doesn't sleep well at night, and she has a little patch of eczema on her neck or her back.   Joette:  How old is Maddy? It's most likely that Maddy is not in her 20s. It can happen. But most likely the osteoarthritis is usually the tipoff that she's older. She's postmenopausal. She's in her 60s, most likely 20 pounds overweight. All of this is super-common for someone in the late 60s, for example. (This is fictitious, right?)   Kate:  Exactly.   Joette:  Maddy is not real, so let's put her exactly where she would fit in the scope of demographic. I would say Maddy is probably about 65.   Kate:  You see a lot of Maddys, I would imagine, Joette, because this may be some typical conditions that people in that age range are dealing with, yes?   Joette:  Yes. You know what you didn't mention about Maddy? My guess is that she's got anxiety, too.   Kate:  Of course, she does.   Joette:  You bet. You bet. Things that come her way or her family's way, she worries about her grandchildren. You know, it keeps her up at night sometimes. You did say insomnia, right? Yes, she has insomnia.   Kate:  Maddy is really excited, Joette. She's just taken some of your courses. She joined your Study Groups.   Joette:  Down, Maddy. Down!   Kate:  She's listened to all the podcasts, read the blogs, and she wants to tackle the world!!   Joette:  Yes, yes, great! That's good. We don't want to extinguish this excitement! But what we want to do is then put it all together for her so she can understand how she approaches something like this.   Kate:  And Maddy's dog has a tick disease. We could go on and on, right?   Joette:  Yes, well, her husband's got, you know,

Joette:  Right. I can guarantee that the ones that we had in high school were not mentally stimulating.
