I’ve been in the action sports game 20+ years now and I’ve learned a lot along the way. The biggest thing I’ve been slapped in the face with is the hindsight of not knowing a thing about marketing myself or my talents. I’m making a committed effort to publish content because I’ve got a lot of wisdom and insight to share with the world! I’ve failed a lot and don’t plan to stop now! Oh and I’ve also succeeded a few times too. Learn from my failures and bask in the successes with me. Or don’t... whatever. :)
I bought a really crappy house and spent 200 dollars of my own money. I worked my ass off, rented it out for a while, eventually sold it, and bought another one! Momentum baby!
Quick little update from hurricane Dorian. Having officially booked my first gig with Red Bull, I was pretty oblivious to the fact that the hurricane could have wiped us all out! Spoiler alert: it didn’t. :)
Staying organized is key to success. Both mentally and physically. Knowledge is useless if you don’t construct a plan to put it to practical use. Staying organized allows you a head start on any endeavor both big and small. Everyone has their own system... start by creating habits that develop your own over time.
A lot of people tend to see driving as a stressful or anxiety inducing activity. If you drive long distances regularly, try instead to view it as an opportunity to reflect. Thinking about goals, your direction, plans, or even listening to books to enrich your life. In this episode I talk a little bit about my driving habits and how they help ground me and reset my mind.
This episode’s title has always been sort of my life motto. Seems simple but let me be the first to tell you that it requires a lot of discipline. You don’t have a wet path and there is no structure. Learning as you go can open a lot of doors but certainly is not for the faint of heart. Enjoy!
Going into details about how I was once a clueless chubby kid with bad teeth and how that helped me (by necessity) learn how to talk to people and develop above average social skills. Doing so and THEN getting in shape and fixing my teeth allowed me to become an unstoppable force. Having both the confidence and the social skills to allowed me overcome anything life could ever throw my way.
As the title says... my dad and I went in on a run down bar in northern Wisconsin together. I spent 4 summers up there working my butt off and revamping a building that was over 100 years old. Got to spend a lot of quality time with my siblings and learned a ton in the process. Skills I still use every day.
In this episode I talk a little bit about my background growing up and how small town culture tends to either suck people in or make them have to rise above to pursue bigger and better things. Opportunities that may not be available in a small town. You can’t choose your family but you can choose your friends. Choose those who elevate you and bring you up their level and you will likely succeed in any endeavor you choose.
In this episode I talk about diversifying my talents and creating more value for myself. I went from pro BMX rider who talked shit for fun... to being a pro speaker who rides bikes for fun.
Basically the last 20 years of my life condensed into 20 mins of audio. I started off as a kid in a small town riding BMX bikes and have since found myself hyping up crowds of 10,000+ at stadiums around the world. I’ve taken my networking skills through a career as a professional BMX rider and transitioned into a life I never could have dreams of.
