Wait, what?!? Last episode of 2017??

Yup friend. We are going out with a bang with the and Social Change U Matter Winter Drive and One Heart One Soul! Can't think of a better way to end this year than how we started ChangeMakers over here... With Mireya Fouche and One Heart One Soul.

The Chicago Coalition for the Homeless reports 1,701 emergency shelter beds available, compared to 2,064 beds in 2013. The number of people impacted by homelessness has not decreased, only the services. In addition, 45 percent of youth seeking shelter from state-funded programs are turned away due to lack of resources (Chicago Coalition for the Homeless). Our focus is to meet and serve these individuals seeking emergency.

OHOS has partnered with Social Change for the 7th year to help bridge the gap to our homeless brothers and sisters in Chicago, LA and for the first year in New York City. Since 2011 One Heart One Soul has dedicated winter seasons to partnering with dozens of businesses and communities in collecting winter items with a focus on socks and winter apparel. At the end of each collection period volunteers travel across the city to distribute items to those waiting for emergency shelters, those who have been turned away from shelters and/or those who sleep outdoors for fear of approaching shelters. In 2016 this allowed us to reach over 400 individuals in one night alone.

This year the goal is serving 700 of our homeless brothers and sisters. You can connect below to find out where and how you can serve and be a part of good change.

This has to be one of my favorite episodes to record! I had THE best time with my new friend David D. Robertson!

David is a renaissance millennial man, who lends his voice in an array of avenues that all lead back to one path: Hope. Scholar, public speaker, educator, writer and social entrepreneur, while also holding positions such as Social Media Coordinator for Southside Help Center, National Advocacy Consultant for AHF, and Technology Consultant at The Auxiliary of The Atlas Senior Center/The Department of Family Support Services.

His journey began through the successful launch of his social movement, “H.O.P.E. Is…” which provides a foundation for society to recognize and reclaim their hope. Through this movement, David took his passion for finding hope into the realm of public health and has focused on community health and infectious disease for nearly a decade.

By successfully combining life experience with the power of voice, David D. Robertson is perfectly fit to inspire people of every background into greater levels of being. David’s journey continues leading the charge for hope and compassion as a graduate student at Northeastern Illinois University researching trauma, mindset and motivation.

http://so-karis.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/SO-KARIS-EPISODE-2-JACEY-COSENTINO-9.21.17.mp3

It is my pleasure to introdce my good friend and ChangeMaker, Jacey J. Cosentino.

How are you letting your money speak for you? Are you using money the same way generations of the past have as opposed to a way of supporting your core beliefs and passions?  Are you ready and willing to shift your relationship and habits with the way you spend and save your money? If so, you are ready to hear how you can clean your house, mentally and emotionally, and begin to build your personal financial portfolio with a maximum global impact.

The Nested Investing approach does not concern itself with whether you are a “have” or “have-not”, the concern lies with the companies, inventors and organizations you choose to support financially. Customizing your portfolio with your core beliefs at center stage is the only way to grow wealth; investments in fossil free funds, zero carbon emission companies, clean energy technology and equal opportunity firms are how we need to contribute, positively, to our planet. Money talks, and the best way to protest your disdain for the state of our planet and humanity is to allow your money to show everyone what you truly believe in. It’s time we all speak with our wallets.

Jacey J. Cosentino is currently a Senior at the University of West Florida studying Finance and Accounting, and her Certificate in Financial Planning from Florida State University.

Her focus is in the field of Impact Investments with an emphasis on personalized budgets and legacy planning.  After nearly 15 years in Los Angeles, California, witnessing the ever-growing divide between the “haves” and “have-nots”, she decided to move back home to Pensacola, Florida, and pursue her Certificate in Financial Planning and Bachelor’s Degrees in Accounting and Finance, with the mission of educating others on how we can allow our hearts to guide our financial positions, in the short-term and long-term. She has created a method of comfortably aligning our personal beliefs and financial goals to adapt to our ever-changing global landscape.

“What we leave behind is our legacy; let our legacy be one that encourages good will and consideration for all living beings.”

The very first So´ Karis Changemakers Podcast features one of my very favorite people, Mireya Fouche of the community organization One Heart One Soul.

The root of Mireya’s life work is purpose and community driven. Born and raised in Chicago, Mireya has first hand knowledge and experience of the social injustices facing our communities today. Through her own life experiences and fueled by her faith in Christ, Mireya launched the organization One Heart One Soul at age 27, building bridges within communities to raise awareness and eliminate misconceptions surrounding homelessness. Her passion for people has allowed her the opportunity of spearheading clothing drives collecting for thousands of homeless people seeking emergency shelter and hundreds of men formerly incarcerated.  In addition, the initiative Unspoken Words, a voice for homeless youth launched as a hope to give the homeless youth in Chicago a voice through art. She is currently co-building on a vision for the non-profit Monarch Thrift Shop whose focus is to help reduce recidivism through providing employment opportunities and job training for men who were formerly incarcerated.

Mireya has received awards such as Dr. King Drum Major Award and is a two time Global Award Nominee for the Epoch Awards. Despite her numerous accolades, Mireya believes her most notable accomplishment is being the mother to her beautiful Haitian-Mexican prince.
