Prayer in the Kingdom of God | Matthew 6:13 | Week 5

Psalm 87:1-3
The kingdom of God & the kingdom of humanity are each represented by a unique city in the Bible. Each city reveals the devotion, values, and hope of the people that make up their inhabitants. Every person must choose the city they will inhabit and the kingdom they will claim allegiance to: the kingdom of God or the kingdom of humanity.

Christmas is the celebration of the coming of God into the world. God took on flesh and dwelt among us. Jesus was not born in a castle or to an affluent family. His mom was a teenager and His stepdad was a carpenter. God is His Father, and from eternity past the plan was set in motion for Jesus to come to accomplish God’s eternal rescue plan of His people. Jesus was born in a manger. His first visitors were shepherds. His first outfit was strips of cloth. His birth announcement was by angels. He who reigns on high came to the lowest to redeem sinners and make us into saints.

All human beings bear the image of God and may display it (reflecting their God-given purpose) or distort it (by sin, which causes brokenness and eternal peril).
ZECHARIAH 9:9
Jesus is the King of glory who has come to save. He came as promised. We are to rejoice always and celebrate His victory.
As bitter as this world is, it is not as bitter as heaven is sweet. Heaven is so sweet that when we taste it, the bitternes of this world is swallowed up in its glory. The weightiness of heaven makes the affliction of today light.
It is easy to get dismayed. Spiritual depression is common among God's faithful people. We must learn to be led by what is true rather than what we feel so that what we feel will be defined by what is true. This allows us to live out God's commands.
God blesses His people who are faithful to live out His word. The one who lives by the word of God is like a tree planted by streams of living water – Psalm 1.
The way to God's blessing is through consistent faith. A lack of obedience is a lack of concentrated faith. We must learn to be consistent.
God calls us to be strong and courageous, not because we are, but because He is and we are with Him.
God has chosen to call a people to Himself and lead them out of captivity into the Promise Land. Like Israel, we have been called by God to go together through life with Him. The trick is to go with Him and not around Him, despite Him, or away from Him.
Christ is coming again. In light of His return, we are to live our lives in honor of Him, reflecting His power, presence, and purpose in our lives. This is the will of God.
Salvation is by grace through faith in Christ alone. In His infinite wisdom, God has provided means that allow His children to celebrate that salvation in their lives. These ordinances provide God glory, each of His children blessings, and the congregation the hope of renewal.
God is one God, who exists in three persons. Each person of the trinity is equal in divinity and glory and is also distinct. Because God is three, He is: love, transcendent and immanent, and ruler over all.
The Bible is a single story with four sections: Creation, Fall, Rescue, and Restoration. The Bible was written by men and inspired by God and is God's only written revelation of Himself. It is without error. It is worthy of trust, sufficient for explaining salvation, and authoritative for life and faith.
God's plans will come to be. God plans to make all things new and to restore harmony in the world. He will destroy all that is by fire and then bring about the reign of Jesus on the earth and fulfill all God's promises.
God blesses a life that is committed to Him. While sin is contagious, righteousness is not. Being righteous in one area, will not make the rest of a person's life right before God, but being sinful in one area, contaminates the entirety of a person's life. How we live is important. God calls us to be faithful in every area of life.
It's easy to get discouraged and to think that our life doesn't matter much compared to what others have, are, and will do. We must guard our heart and remember that God looks at the heart and celebrates the widows who give mites, and uses the army of 300 rather than 30,000 for His glory.
God has promised to bless His people, and God is pleased when we respond with faith and fear. God stirs us to faith and we must respond to God and live by faith.
God has promised to bless those who join Him in His redemptive work in the world. Those who invest in what matters to God, enjoy the blessing of God's provision. In light of What's Next in the story, it is wise to invest in eternal things.
God is greater than any enemy or challenge in the world. By knowing God’s Word, we can know who God is and embrace the power of His truth and live in it by grace.
God commands that we believe in Jesus and then abide in Him. When we do, we will sense His Spirit abiding and living in us.
The world, the flesh, and the Devil conspire to keep us from living lives inspired by God’s Gospel. We must learn to overcome the distractions and make our hearts one with the grace and truth of God. When our hearts are one with God’s, we please Him and He answers our prayers.
Love is a person who laid down His life for us. He calls us to lay down our lives for our siblings. The life of Jesus is a generous life motivated not by guilt, pride, or fear, but by love. Generosity is love acting out in faith.
The message of the Bible is a message of love. It reveals to us the love of God and how we are to love one another. Without God’s love, we will be left with broken love, which leads to jealousy, hate, conflict, and murder. To live with God’s love is to live a blessed life.
God's love, given by grace and received by faith, transforms a person's identity. It enables a person to anchor his/her life and hope in Jesus.
The Story of the Bible is clear: Creation, Fall, Rescue, & Restoration. Just as some who questioned if Jesus would come the first time, as God promised, so there are those who will doubt His 2nd coming. But we can know that Jesus will return in light of the God that calls us to "abide" in Jesus and to live confidently in the righteous hope He has given to us. This hope is our assurance that lets us know we need not be ashamed when He returns.
Jesus Christ is God. Those who are saved are anointed by the Holy One of God and know the truth. The one who denies Jesus is the Christ is a lier and, is like the antichrist who deny both God the Father and the Son.
We are in the last era of the world before Christ comes again. The evil one knows that his earthly reign is coming to an end. The hostility is intensified.
The things of this world are a disappointment. They cannot satisfy the eternal longing of our soul. The desires of the flesh and eyes the pride of life are the source of human suffering. The will of God lasts forever. This will of God is the hope for all who believe.
The death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus provide the victory for God’s children who live by faith. Our sin is forgiven. We know Him who is from the beginning. We overcome the evil one. We know the Father. We are strong in Christ. God’s Word abides in us.
To live without love is to live in darkness. In darkness there is only fear, pain, and blindness. God calls us to live in the light of love.
The Gospel is not a New Testament thing. The Gospel is the Good News of the Old and New Testament. Hope is built on the foundation of the Old Testament and New Testament.
On Easter we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. We give thanks that Jesus died and paid the penalty for our sin. On Easter we celebrate that Jesus is alive and that His resurrection power is now at work in us, as we live raised to walk in a new life.
Two of Jesus' followers had different responses to what they saw, when they saw the empty tomb. One believed and one doubted. Jesus was gracious to Mary and enabled her to believe. Her response to her belief was to share her hope.
Assurance of salvation is not a feeling. It is a fact. It comes from seeing the life of Jesus lived out in us, as we live in obedience to Jesus. When we have living hope, we will love God deeply and this love will lead us to obedience.
Being a Christian does not mean a person is perfect. It means a person has been forgiven of their sin and made righteous with Christ. That righteousness must be learned in order to be lived. As we seek the holiness of God through repentance and faith, we will discover the joy of living hope and be transformed.
Being a Christian does not mean a person is perfect. It means a person has been forgiven of their sin and made righteous with Christ. That righteousness must be learned in order to be lived. As we seek the holiness of God through repentance and faith, we will discover the joy of living hope and be transformed.
The reality of Jesus and the living hope He provides gives us joy. Our joy grows as we share it, live it, and fellowship with others who have living hope.
Jesus is alive! His existence is our hope and is something we experience through the power of the Holy Spirit. The life of Christ is eternal and is now the source of life for all who believe, giving God’s people a living hope.
To understand the hope of the world, you have to understand The Story of the world. The hope of the world is the promise of God He has kept, He is keeping, and that He will keep. The hope of the world is a living hope.
We often want things to stay the same, but in this world, change is constant. The only chance to have hope is to anchor your life and hope in Jesus. He will guide us through changes, be with us to bring healing and transformation, and enable us to live with audacious faith.
Living hopeful happens in our hearts when God calls us to follow Him. Being helpful happens when we open our lives to others and share Jesus with them.
Living hopeful and being helpful does not just happen. We must be intentional about it. We must look ahead and make plans to live hopeful and be helpful.
There is a deep abiding joy that exists, when a person sees what Christmas and life is all about. We all want to be happy and many wrongly think it can be bought and at Christmas, we are more prone to pursue happiness through things that can be bought. The problem is that those things don’t last. Joy lasts. The joy of God that is ours in Christ is real and it lasts.
At Christmas, people often speak of hope. They speak of a desire to believe there is more, that there is good, and that they can have more good things and be a part of making things good. Hope is powerful. Without hope, life is hard and a burden to heavy to bear. God has come to give us hope. This hope feels us with peace. It makes life livable and our burdens light.
At this time of year, we hear many speak of peace on earth. There will never be complete until Christ returns, but we can each enjoy peace in our lives. We can know God is pleased and embrace the promises of God for our own.
Everyone wants love. We love the idea of it. So many get engaged and married at this time of year because it is a time to share and celebrate love.
