As the summer approaches many countries across the board are opening up to accommodate the expected influx of tourism as the weather gets warmer. And with that in mind, Bloomberg created a ranking system called the covid resilience index to help guide you along the way. The system aggregates each country’s lockdown severity, vaccinated travel routes, flight capacity, vaccine doses per 100 people, reopening progress, and quality life index (which takes in universal health care coverage and human development ratings). On May 23, 2022, the controversial Trump administration policy known as Title 42 is scheduled to officially end. The end of Title 42 follows the CDC announcement that the policy measure is no longer necessary based on current COVID-19 public health conditions. On November 10, 2021, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security entered into a settlement with plaintiffs, significantly changing USCIS policy regarding work authorization for qualified H-4 and L-2 status holders. On November 12, 2021, USCIS https://www.uscis.gov/policy-manual/volume-10-part-b-chapter-2 (updated) its Policy Manual to reflect these changes. USCIS and CBP are working to reflect these changes on Form I-94 so as to distinguish E and L dependent spouses from E and L dependent children. When the new code and notation are implemented, Forms I-94 for E or L dependent spouses may constitute as evidence of employment authorization. Javier Miranda, Co-author of the National Bureau of Economic Research's paper "Immigration and Entrepreneurship in the United States" joins Immigration Nerds. Daniel Kim) Immigration can expand labor supply and create greater competition for native-born workers. But immigrants may also start new firms, expanding labor demand. His paper uses U.S. administrative data and other data resources to study the role of immigrants in entrepreneurship. We ask how often immigrants start companies, how many jobs these firms create, and how these firms compare with those founded by U.S.-born individuals. A simple model provides a measurement framework for addressing the dual roles of immigrants as founders and workers. The findings suggest that immigrants act more as "job creators" than "job takers" and that non-U.S. born founders play outsized roles in U.S. high-growth entrepreneurship.

The year 2020 marked a sudden break in mobility across international borders. The COVID-19 pandemic decimated tourism and business travel; cut the lion’s share of seasonal and temporary labor migration; temporarily ground refugee resettlement efforts to a halt; and held up the processing of visas of all kinds, from those for international students to family reunification. After escaping a politically divided Egypt, she and her family lived in exile in Saudi Arabia before immigrating to the US in 1960. This latest agreement adds to the growing evidence of privacy erosion. On Tuesday, the U.S. Supreme Court held an oral argument to deliberate over the White House’s plan to roll back Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). The policy, first implemented by the Obama administration in August 2012, allows undocumented individuals who were brought to the country as children to live and work in the US safe from deportation. DACA, if canceled, would place over 600,000 ‘Dreamers’ in jeopardy.
