Becoming A Disciple Worth Multiplying In this launch episode of the new CDM Fundamentals series, Paul Watson breaks down what it means to be a disciple worth multiplying. Using the lives of Kings Saul, David, and Solomon, Paul illustrates how fixing your identity on Christ impacts your obedience, decision-making, and long-term fruitfulness in disciple-making.

This episode challenges believers to examine where their identity truly lies—and offers a practical, step-by-step method for grounding identity in Christ through scripture, meditation, obedience, and multiplication.

🧭 In This Episode You’ll Learn:
What a strategic element* is and why "being a disciple worth multiplying" is foundational * The difference between strategic and tactical elements in disciple-making * How the identity and outcomes of Saul, David, and Solomon contrast dramatically * Why misplaced identity leads to compromise, drift, and spiritual failure * A practical, reproducible framework for fixing your identity on Christ:

+ 🧠 Daily Scripture reading
+ 💬 Meditation on what it says about God, people, and obedience
+ 🛠️ Specific application in life and relationships
+ 🍇 Observing and evaluating spiritual fruit
+ 🔁 Multiplying obedience through disciple-making communities and DBS groups

🛠️ Practical Takeaways:
* Read Scripture daily using a plan that works for you * Ask three questions:

1. What does this say about God?
2. What does it say about people?
3. How should I obey this in the next 24–48 hours?
  • Meditate on obedience—past, present, and potential future situations
  • Reflect on your identity: Are you a follower of Christ first—before your roles, professions, or personality?
  • Share and multiply: Celebrate obedience with others and invite them into the process

💡 Quote of the Episode:

"We obey because of love for Christ, not fear of hell."

📘 Group Discussion Guide
Podcast Episode: Becoming a Disciple Worth Multiplying
Series: CDM Fundamentals
Length: ~35 mins
Host: Paul Watson

👥 GROUP FORMAT (45–60 min)
1. 🎧 Listen (before group or during session – optional) 2. 📖 Scripture + Summary 3. ❓ Discussion Questions 4. 🛠 Application + Obedience Plan 5. 🙏 Prayer & Commitment

🧠 KEY INSIGHT (Leader Summary)
“You will reproduce what you are. If your identity is not firmly fixed in Christ, you cannot multiply disciples who follow Him.”
Paul contrasts the lives of Saul, David, and Solomon to show how identity impacts fruitfulness in disciple-making. David was “a man after God’s own heart” not because he was perfect, but because his identity was rooted in God. The episode lays out a process for fixing our identity on Christ through Scripture, obedience, and multiplication.

📖 SCRIPTURE REFERENCES
* 1 Samuel 13–15 (Saul’s disobedience) * 2 Samuel 11–12 (David and Bathsheba) * 1 Kings 10–11 (Solomon’s drift) * John 14:15 – “If you love me, keep my commands.” * James 1:22 – “Do not merely listen to the word… do what it says.”

❓ DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

🔍 Identity Check

Q1: What stood out to you most from the episode?
Leader Tip: Encourage responses tied to the three kings, identity, or the concept of multiplication.
Q2: Paul said, “You produce what you are.” In your current spiritual walk, what would be reproduced?

Q3: In what roles or titles (parent, worker, pastor, etc.) do you sometimes anchor your identity instead of Christ?
Leader Tip: Share a personal example to open vulnerability.
🧭 Scripture + Obedience

Q4: Paul teaches that fixing our identity on Christ requires daily Scripture reading + obedience. How are you currently engaging with Scripture personally?

Q5: Which of the DBS questions do you think is most powerful for transforming your daily life?

  • What does this say about God?
  • What does this say about people?
  • What should I do to obey?

🌱 Fruit + Multiplication

Q6: What’s an example of spiritual fruit you’ve seen from obedience to Scripture?

Q7: How can we help others obey Scripture and multiply this process?
Leader Tip: Highlight Discovery Bible Study (DBS) or disciple-making communities as options.
🛠️ APPLICATION: Obedience Plan

Have each person choose one passage to read this week. Then answer:

  • What does it teach me about God/people?
  • How will I obey in the next 24–48 hours?
  • Who will I tell, and how can I invite others to join me?

✍️ Leaders: write these responses down or ask members to text them to you for accountability next week.
🙏 CLOSING PRAYER
* Ask God to reveal misplaced identity * Pray for courage to obey His word this week * Pray for multiplication opportunities—people to disciple or invite into DBS

🧾 FOLLOW-UP CHALLENGE

Next week, open by asking:

  • How did you obey?
  • What was the fruit?
  • Who did you share this with?

👑 Two Kings, Two Outcomes: Why Identity Matters in Disciple-Making
When we look at the lives of King Saul and King David, one thing becomes strikingly clear: both were chosen, both were anointed, but only one left a legacy aligned with God’s heart.

In the CDM Podcast, Paul Watson explains that the real difference between Saul and David wasn’t talent, opportunity, or even failure—it was identity.

Saul’s identity was rooted in his role.
He constantly made decisions based on fear of man and the need to protect his position. Even when he received direct instructions from God, he compromised to preserve appearances. Saul was more concerned with how he looked to others than how he stood before God. His identity was unstable, tied to performance and approval.

David’s identity, however, was rooted in his relationship with God.
Even in failure—like his sin with Bathsheba—David responded with humility, repentance, and a desire to be restored. His actions weren’t always godly, but his heart always turned back to God. His identity was built not on perfection but on connection—he knew who he was because he knew whose he was.

The lesson?
If we want to make disciples worth multiplying, we must first anchor our identity in Christ. Without that foundation, we risk replicating insecurity, inconsistency, and spiritual drift in the people we disciple.

We don’t multiply knowledge or programs—we multiply who we are.

“You produce what you are. If your identity is in anything but Christ, that’s what you’ll reproduce.”

Want to become a disciple worth multiplying? Start with your identity.

🔥 Inspirational + Bold Quotes
1. "You produce what you are. If you’re not following Jesus, you can’t make disciples who follow Him." 2. "Your identity determines your fruit. Period." 3. "David wasn’t perfect, but his heart always turned back to God. That’s what made him a disciple worth multiplying." 4. "Saul obeyed just enough to look faithful. David obeyed out of love." 5. "We obey because of love for Christ—not fear of hell." 6. "If your identity is rooted in your role, title, or gifting, it will collapse under pressure."

🧠 Reflective & Thought-Provoking
1. "What are you multiplying—your personality or the character of Christ?" 2. "Who you are in private will shape the movement you lead in public." 3. "If we don’t fix our identity in Christ, we’ll replicate insecurity, pride, and fear in those we disciple." 4. "Being a disciple worth multiplying starts in the heart, not the platform."

🛠️ Practical + Action-Oriented
1. "Fix your identity by obeying what God shows you in His Word—daily, personally, and publicly." 2. "Don’t just read the Bible—ask, ‘How will I obey this in the next 24–48 hours?’" 3. "Fruit doesn’t come from knowledge. It comes from obedience."

Bottom-line Christian living centers around people as priority.

“Life is beautiful not because of the things we see or the things we do. Life is beautiful because of the people we meet..”

In Christianity, we have often not cared about building relationships. We care about Gospel presentations–which can be unnerving at first. But relationships are hard work.

Foundationally, making disciples is not as much sharing the Gospel as it is walking with others in relationship; with the goal of seeing the Kingdom of God come.

—Our disciple-making efforts must build on the right foundation—

What is the Heart of Engagement?

When it comes to DMM, does a centralized leadership team stifle the small group format? Is it more healthy to have leadership, or to not? The answer is a nuanced and emphatic: Both! The Navy seals have incredible leadership structure but operate in small bands, much like DMM. They accomplish this through incredible leader building with intense accountability. It allows the insight of the boots-on-the-ground operator to do what's best, while still being tied to the larger vision and purpose. Our brains can't move like fingers but they can transmit a single purpose that requires multiple faculties (our shoulder, arm, wrist) to work together to accomplish our goal.

If we pursue DMM with no central leadership, our work will have glaring weaknesses, conspicuous by their absence: 1) A radical commitment to a single vision and purpose. 2) Commitment to constant training, coaching and mentoring. 3) Ruthless Evaluation 4) Radical Accountability 5) A call to Higher Character and Maturity.Today, we unpack all of these and answer many questions like:* What does it take to have a decentralized team? * What is appropriate and healthy decentralization? * What happens when we begin training too soon?

and much more...

"DMM in the macro, [focuses on the big picture and] recognizes the scope of what it takes to catalyze Disciple-Making Movements, is much bigger than what one person can do with their time. Macro-DMM thinking focuses on Systems, Processes and Developing Leaders." In it's greatest expression, Macro-DMM acts like a brain: balancing the strengths, commitment levels and vision of where we are going--the effect of this is that we can move together as a unified body, the Body of Christ.

"DMM in the micro’s focus is, what does me and my team need to do each day to make disciples, that WILL in turn make more disciples?" At it's best, Micro-focused DMM gives us momentum, step-by-step progress to achieving our big vision.

In today's podcast, we cover the following:

What are the 5 different levels of a leader, and how does thinking Macro/Micro help you progress through these levels?

How to set yourself up for strategic planning by categorizing your efforts into Micro/Macro Disciple Making.

How the body of Christ can assume their role and work together to have a unified effect on neighborhood, city and country alike.

“The process of transitioning to some new ways and some other things resulted in within three months, instead of 13 leaders we had 3."

What does it take to go from the loss of more than half your leaders to 40 miracles every day, 38 water baptisms per day, having 51,000 people have come to Christ and 43,000 baptized? What did it take to get to this miraculous point? We're joined by David Parish in this week's CDM podcast. David tells the story of the beginning of their ministry—how they weren't seeing multiplication yet. Despite seeing 212 churches planted, David was convinced God has more in store but knew something was missing. So he sought out the necessary training and coaching he needed to see DMM happen in Honduras and the story continues to this day!

This podcast is filled with stories of miracles, David's personal journey of disciple making, and principles we can take from the movement in Honduras.

Volunteering is an excellent way to engage people who don't know Jesus. But sometimes volunteering in and of itself isn't as effective as it could be. In the heat of meeting needs, we want to intentionally leave room for conversation and relationship building. So how do we turn volunteer opportunities into disciple making opportunities? Join us in the CDM Podcast to talk about just that!

Beck Ewing and David Watson discuss the nature of spiritual warfare and some ways to recognize and combat it.

Is it just stress, or is this spiritual warfare? As Christians in the West, it’s easy to forget that we are spiritually at war. Satan, our enemy, is both clever and ruthless and is actively seeking to destroy God’s children and His work. In a world so full of stress, though, how can we tell if our bad days are natural or if they’re an attack by the enemy?

Since obedience is our love language to God, are we as obedient as we think we are? David Watson explains that incomplete obedience is disobedience. We're missing out on so much God has when we omit commands of Christ just as much as when we commit sins against God. This episode answers these questions:

Can we be obedient in some but not all?

What examples from the Bible do we see of incomplete obedience?

What benefits are we missing when we're not completely obedient?

What are sins we're missing in ourselves? Among each other? Regarding our mission? In our communities?

Obedience is how we tell Jesus we love him. But we miss this in the modern church. One reason we aren't seeing movement in the Western world is because we read the Bible to increase our knowledge, not our obedience. In this episode, David Watson explains why it's so important to follow Christ's commission to "teach them to obey all that I have commanded."

Starting a Disciple Making Movement is really hard. One of the weak spots of a disciple maker can be resentment. Do any of these describe you?

-It is difficult for you to hear the success stories of others.

-You think you deserve more recognition for your accomplishments than you actually receive.

-Disgust rather than joy at people achieving their dreams.

-You imply to others that you’re doing better than you actually are.

-You secretly experience joy when someone else fails.

If so, you might be experiencing resentment you might not have known was there. In this episode, we uncover how we can use celebration to combat these underlying feelings of resentment towards other people in ministry. Let's celebrate and learn from the success of others!

In part 2, see how we've used the concept of celebration in our community to help each other become world changing disciple makers!

Conversations. They're part of our everyday interaction, but there’s something unique about how we handle conversations that allow movement to happen. It takes some instinct shifts to reshape the way we approach people if we want to see multiplication. Maybe there's an alternative to arguing them out of their closely held beliefs or hoping they put their faith in Christ on the spot.

In this episode, we go over four of those shifts. It's about inviting them to discover God in the Bible, not inviting them to church. It's about listening to people so you don't give them a cookie-cutter pitch. It's about long-term relationships, not one-time interactions. And it's about focusing on groups rather than stopping at individuals.

Everyone says the Gospel changes everything. But what does that mean? Why aren't we seeing a significant change when people come to know God? It starts with our understanding of what the Gospel really is. In this episode, Beck Ewing helps us think about the big picture of the Gospel and how it should be changing every aspect of the culture we live in.

How do you push through discouragement? Discouragement is something every disciple maker is going to face along the way. In this episode, we'll help you think through a few ways to help you hang on when the going gets rough. Just because you aren't seeing millions come to faith doesn't mean you're doing it wrong! Let's take a step back and realize this takes a long time and discouragement is to be expected.

In part 2, we talk about how celebration is the best form of motivation and accountability (and not to mention overcoming discouragement!).

We have a tendency to be abstract with our application of Scripture. A core part of the Disciple Making Movement process is the Discovery Bible Study (DBS) method. After reading a passage from the Bible you ask, "What does this say about God? What does this say about people?" And then you go onto ask, "If this is true, what difference does it make in our lives?" This is often the toughest part of a DBS to get. But getting too good "I will" statements can be the difference between a group that multiplies and a group that doesn't.

In this CDM Podcast episode, Paul Watson and Beck Ewing go over that part of the DBS process and why making concrete, time-bound and small action steps is so important in the movement process.

"If you love me you will obey my commandments." -John 14:15

It's all about multiplication, not replication. It's easy to assume that our particular church will appeal to everyone and work in every culture. That's just not the case. In order to reproduce the Gospel, we have to get out of our denominational box.

David Watson joins us today to talk about how to know if a church is planted right. It doesn't have to do with our preferred flavor of church, but rather obedience.

An "I Will" statement is your answer to one of the most important questions in a Discovery Bible Study, "If this passage is from God, how must we change?" An "I Will" statement can make or break your DBS. The difference between being a convert and a disciple is obedience.   So here are some applications people often give that can be detrimental to a fruitful Discovery Group, and how to respond to them!

"The only way to walk with God is through prayer." Prayer was the driving force behind the Disciple Making Movement David Watson saw in India. On average their team spent 3-6 hours a day in prayer, and even more on the weekends. David argues that people who pray only 15 minutes a day are in a religious system, not a walking-with-God system. Today David Watson joins the CDM Podcast to share from personal experience just how important a prayer movement is. Learn principles about listening prayer, turning distractions into opportunity, and how to how to see real fruit. Hear stories about his prayer mobilization efforts and just what prayer can do.

You've heard us talk about Disciple Making Communities—groups of Christians on a mission to make disciples together. So why are we adding that on top of things like the Discovery Bible Study process? Isn't that enough to see movement? Well the thing is, we're dealing with a culture that has a broken DNA (or is lacking habits) for fulfilling the Great Commission. We need to build them. That's why something like a Disciple Making Community (DMC) exists.

A DMC instills the habits of prayer, obedience to the Word, sharing with others, fellowship, multiplication, and more. But how do these all fit together and play into the grander scheme of a movement? Find out in today's CDM Podcast!

In part 2, we continue on the topic of DNA, answering the questions of 1) How do you guide your group towards your success? 2) How long do you do a DMC? 3) When do you have others start DMCs? And 4) Is it possible for people to not be ready for a DMC?

When you open a book, where do you start? At the beginning! When you are helping someone discover God, where do you start? Today's podcast is about why we use the Creation to Christ Scripture list in a Discovery Bible Study. It's 26 passages that begins in Genesis and ends with Jesus.   Many times we start with Jesus as we're introducing someone to the Word of God. But most people don't know who Jesus is or why his death and resurrection are necessary.  Learn how to start a strong foundation with those you're discipling that can lead to a movement by listening today!

In part 2, we answer these questions:

Can I break up long passages?

Can I add passages?

Are there other lists?

How do you reach an entire city? How do you get through the obstacles you'll inevitably run into as a disciple maker? What does it look like to mobilize people effectively? This is where a Disciple Making Team comes in.

You may have heard of a Disciple Making Community (DMC) - a group that is learning how to be disciple makers in a community of others doing the same. While that's an excellent start, our ultimate goal is to turn those groups into Disciple Making Teams (DMT). The difference here is that a DMT is now starting other DMCs and is taking ownership of an area.

In these unprecedented times, the very thing we thought was distancing us from people might be the only thing we can use to build meaningful relationships now. How can technology be a help instead of a hindrance to disciple making? We have a unique opportunity to reach out to people who are stuck at home, who have more time due to cancelled events, and who just might need someone to reach out to them.

In today's episode, Paul and Beck break down some of the things we've been learning about using remote ways of actually making genuine connections with people who don't know Jesus.  Let's make the most of what we have!

With over 80,000 churches and 2,000,000 baptized believers, how did this incredible disciple making movement among the Bhojpuri of India start? David Watson, co-author of Contagious Disciple Making and one of the inventors of the term "disciple making movement" joins us on the CDM Podcast to paint a picture of what those first few years in India looked like. He asked God for 5 leaders to start with and after lots of prayer and perseverance, this is how it happened.

How do I get my church on board with disciple making movements? You may be leading your church but want something more than a traditional model. Today Michael Dorsett, pastor in Texas and CDM coached team member, joins us in explaining how he has been working to change his church culture to be movement-focused. This episode is for you if you are asking the question, "Why isn't my church community as excited about disciple making as I am?"

In part 2, 3 Things Pastors Need to Know, we dive into the specifics of how pastors can change the culture of their church. Maybe it's time to reevaluate our definition of success. Is it about people walking into your church or people walking out of it to reach a broken world?

Getting to movement means doing more prayer than we normally do. How do we build the prayer habits we need to be disciple makers? We talk about the prayer calendar, but what else should we be doing? In today's episode, Paul and Beck give practical tips on setting aside 30 minutes a day, not seeing prayer as a checklist, and how to use The Lord's Prayer for Great Commission work. It's easy to be too busy or not disciplined. But it's necessary to build these habits if you want to be a disciple maker!

Part 2 is all about taking prayer to the next level with prayer gatherings. Personal prayer is important but group prayer works wonders. Celebration, repentance, and intercession.

“If we really do value the Great Commission and want to fill our campus with workers instead of trying to fill the room to hear you preach, we’ve got to change up how we do things.”

This is what pastor Clayton's interns told him before they shifted from an event based ministry to a movement based one. From quantity to quality. Today Clayton, a CDM coached team member, joins Paul and Beck in the CDM Podcast to talk about how we might rethink campus ministry. How do disciple making methods look within campus ministry? How is it different from other styles? Hear how they went from 300 people sitting in a worship service to 60 people going out and multiplying. Which would you prefer?

"Yeah, for the sake of time, let's skip the retelling part..." is exactly what you don't want to say in a Discovery Bible Study! Every element of the DBS process is essential. Today's podcast is about the element of retelling the story. It's the part of the meeting where you have people say the passage in their own words after you've read it. This helps with comprehension and with sharing the story with someone else.

Retaining what you read is a lost art in today's fast-paced society. Furthermore, people won't be able to tell it to those outside the group without first practicing in the group. Listen to hear tips on this part of the DBS process that you can use today! Part 2 is about making sharing the story a more natural process.

Has this ever happened to you? You discover something amazing and excitedly tell someone about it. Upon hearing it, they aren't nearly as enthusiastic as you'd hoped, leaving you wondering how anyone could possibly not see what you're seeing.

A life of disciple making requires sacrifice. So it makes sense that people wouldn't be interested. Why is it so difficult to inspire and train others to become disciple makers? Today's CDM Podcast answers just that.

Mobilization is similar to the Parable of the Soil. Some aren't interested, some initially click but quickly fade, others get distracted by life. There are a million reasons why someone wouldn't want to be inconvenienced, make sacrifices, put in hard daily work of obedience, or go against popular opinion. But the Great Commission isn't optional. We're all called to be involved.

In the "Part 2" episode, we'll discuss how to overcome this and actually prepare people for disciple making.

If you're going to make disciples, you need to build relationships with other people—specifically those who don't know Jesus. But it's hard to tell if our engagements with lost people are effective.  Sometimes the gathering is all about the activity and leaves no room for conversation or true relationship building.

How can we meet with the same people consistently? How can we use certain activities as springboards towards further relational development? How do the Conversation Quadrants fit in? All this and more on today's episode of the CDM Podcast! And then in part two, we will be discussing how to know when to move on from a relationship that isn't bearing fruit.

This is a question we get asked all the time. You might be excited about doing Disciple Making Movements and are wondering if doing stuff at your church will clash. Today Paul Watson and Beck Ewing are here to tell you that disciple making IS a church activity! While some church activities might need to be shifted, Disciple Making Movements should totally be compatible with your church.

We discuss questions you can ask about your own church activities, such as, "Does this activity lead directly to disciple making?" and "What does follow-up look like?" Church outreach events, potlucks, camps, and trips are great but we need to be asking what happens after the activity and making a plan for where it leads.

In the second half of the episode, we talk about wisely investing our time as disciple makers. We all get the same amount of time, how can we make the most of it?

Failing forward. That's what generally happens in the first two years of a disciple making movement. You don't see much fruit at first and many mistakes are made. But those growing pains are just part of it. In this episode of the CDM Podcast, Paul Watson and Beck Ewing tackle the subject of these first two years.

It takes a while to develop the right habits, mobilize the right amount of prayer, and build relationships with the right people. But these first two years are all about laying a foundation; go slow in order to go fast. You'll start to see multiplication. Be patient. Take courage. Pace yourself. Don't stop praying. "God will wait to give you much fruit until you have the prayer needed in order to be able to handle it."

Continuing on the topic of Disciple Making Communities, this time around we're covering training and multiplying your DMC. The main thing here is that a DMC is not curriculum-based, but based on transformational action. So instead of overwhelming new disciple makers with countless steps, how do we invite them along on the process of making disciples together?

Learn about casting vision, telling stories, training in Discovery Bible Study, and helping people get started in the first two disciple making practices. These are all tips we've discovered by doing Disciple Making Communities of our own. We hope you will be able to start your own!

"Personal practice as a disciple maker is important. But to sustain it, you need community." That's where a Disciple Making Community fits in.

We've already had some podcasts about Disciple Making Communities (DMC). This one will go over some of the crucial ingredients to a DMC:

• Action-focused learning

• Prayer/engagement

• Meeting needs

• Accountability/encouragement

• Celebration

We'll also go into the flow of how a DMC meeting should go. Remember, it's not just about the meeting. A community happens all throughout the week, encouraging each other in all the ways we need to make disciples. This podcast helps you know how to do that!

We have another 2-part episode on the way that's also about DMC, but more specifically training and multiplying your DMC. Stay tuned!

This free full length episode is all about having conversations that actually go somewhere. We often aren't taught how to talk to people about Jesus and if we are, it's always about getting them to accept Jesus right then and there. So where should we take the conversation? We want to connect their story to a story in the Bible. Eventually (and with lots of prayer), this will lead them to reading the Bible and discovering God for themselves.

"That's what Jesus did. He saw where people were—or what was happening at the moment—and then connected a grander spiritual truth with that moment."

Listen now to get practical how-to's and encouraging stories that will help you have deep discovery conversations with your friends and family!

“We are talking specifically about one of the most important aspects of disciple making out there." -Paul Watson

And that aspect is prayer! But starting a prayer movement seems like such a daunting task. In this week's CDM podcast, we focus on an extremely practical first step in mobilizing prayer for disciple making movements: the prayer calendar.  Beck describes it as "a nail on which to hang the command to be daily praying for and edifying others." We go into detail on how to start your own prayer calendar and how it feeds into prayer movement. We emphasize how prayer habits are more important than prayer events. We also share a bunch of stories of how people have used the prayer calendar successfully. We hope this helps you start doing a prayer calendar even today!

“We’re seeing 40 miracles every day…we’re seeing 38 water baptisms per day right now...51,000 people have come to Christ. 43,000 have been baptized."

These were pretty staggering statistics about the Disciple Making Movement in Honduras and other parts of Latin America. But what did it take to get to this miraculous point? We're joined by David Parish in this week's CDM podcast. David tells the story of the beginning of their ministry—how they weren't seeing multiplication yet. Despite seeing 212 churches planted, David was convinced God has more in store but knew something was missing. So he sought out the necessary training and coaching he needed to see DMM happen in Honduras and the story continues to this day!

This podcast is filled with stories of miracles, David's personal journey of disciple making, and principles we can take from the movement in Honduras.

You've probably heard us talk about Discovery Bible Studies (DBS). Most of us have been in numerous Bible studies, but what about a Discovery Study? Is there a difference? And does the distinction matter when it comes to discipling people who don't yet know Jesus?

Join Paul and Beck in this week's CDM Podcast episode as they talk about the DNA of a DBS and how it differs from a traditional Bible study group. For instance, traditional studies are often focused on attaining knowledge for believers while Discovery Studies are about facilitating obedience among non-believers.

“Transformation doesn’t happen until we actually obey the things we have learned. Simply knowing certain things doesn’t transform us.”

“After catastrophic failure and being expelled from the country, I started to question the way we were planting churches as a denomination.” -David Watson

This is a special episode wherein we are joined by David Watson - a leading practitioner and trainer in modern Disciple Making Movements and Paul Watson's father. This one is about traditions we as Christians have that we bring into the mission field. While traditions are not bad, they can often block the advancement of the Kingdom of God. We want to minimize transfer of culture, whether ethnic or denominational. David Watson had to change his entire way of doing ministry; but it led to a movement of 2,000,000+ believers in India.

Join us in hearing from Paul Watson and Beck Ewing, with special guest David Watson to hear about how we can start a movement that's totally Jesus and Scripture centered, not based on our Christian culture.

Christians often focus on not drinking or sleeping around...but while we try not to commit those, do we omit things like caring for the poor? Or we'll send someone across the world to Africa but won't go across our street. In this episode of the CDM Podcast, Paul Watson and Beck Ewing go into 3 sins we need to be repenting of and what we need to be returning to to be disciples who are worth multiplying. The first strategic element of a Disciple Making Movement is "be a disciple worth multiplying." The first thing Jesus preached was repentance. We see these going hand in hand when pursuing movement and the lack of the latter is that hidden block to movement. In this episode, Paul and Beck unpack how this works and the lost principle of repentance in Christianity today.

"If we don’t repent, we’re not in actual step with God. Therefore we cannot move forward to fully be his emissaries to the world."
