Recently, I had the same questions and thought I'd take a deep dive into the content marketing strategy of one of my "so hot right now" brands - Cognilio Palm Beach to see what they're doing right, and why tapping into nostalgia is key.
Cognilio Palm Beach makes a cheeky appearance in this episode which you can listen to after - Ep. 163 - The soft sell, seduction and spicing up your content

For several years, we've been told that we're in an attention economy - the more attention and engagement you get, the easier it is to 'win' in business. While you do need some feedback to show your marketing is resonating, gaining a lot of attention doesn't automatically result in more clients. The bigger question your audience is asking now is: "can I trust this person?".
In this episode, we dive into four strategies to create more trust with your audience both online and offline so you become their first choice when they want to engage with your service like yours.

About five years ago, a beautiful friend gave me some feedback that I was elevating others work too much.
When we regularly put other people on a pedestal, it becomes an unconscious habit that leads to scarcity, distraction and limiting ourselves when we design offers or create content.
This episode is a reminder that you’re safe to “blow your own damn mind”.
You’re safe to go bigger.
You’re safe to be acknowledged for your greatness.
Let's go do this!
Celebrity trainer, Joie Lee was raised on the beautiful island of Maui and began training in Kundalini Yoga, dance, and music at an early age.
After over a decade of working with some of the top names in boutique fitness in NYC, and Los Angeles, she grew disenchanted with the superficially of the industry. After the birth of her second son in 2021, she launched the Manifestation Workout.
Joie draws on her spiritual upbringing to empower her clients to become deeply mindful of their bodies and how they relate to the world, thereby creating long-lasting, and definitive change, physically, mentally and emotionally.
In this episode we talk about Joie's upbringing, how she manifested a move across country to LA, how she created her current offer, the radiant body and much more.

One of the things I often here from clients - whether they be creatives or in the coaching industry, is they want to feel more comfortable speaking in public. With social media being a primary marketing tool, it’s common for people to start here and build confidence on a platform first.
Instagram reels or TikTok are a fun place to explore with shorter content, but what happens when you want to do more longer form content like a video podcast, YouTube or Lives?
In this episode, we dive into the "4 P's" to help you become more magnetic on camera (or any speaking gig for that matter).

In kundalini yoga, there are a wealth of teachings on the concept of “prosperity”.
I decided to invite Mary Margaret Skelly back on the show to go deeper on this profound concept.
In this conversation we explore the shifts that have happened between 2020 - 2021 personally and in her work, what prosperity means to her and what the practice involves, how important it is to build a strong nervous system to support you when success comes your way and what it looks like to help her clients achieve fulfilment in their work.
If you want to learn more about Mary Margaret’s background and her work, I suggest you listen to our last conversation - episode 60 which aired in Sep 2020.
Before we dive into this episode, I wish to mention that this was recorded in mid-July and sadly, 2 weeks later our teacher Guru Jagat passed away from complications post surgery. It was sudden, and while she left a void, she has only deepened our love for this work, and the creative mark she left on this world is only inspiring others to “keep up” and do the same.
It was with Mary Margaret’s permission that I’m sharing this episode with you in honour of someone we both cared about and respected deeply.

Today’s episode is taken from a short but powerful 10min IGTV on pricing. Pricing is one of the top 3 things small business owners have questions about when we they enquire about coaching.

This video isn’t about how to be the most expensive, but it is about being profitable and you may or may not choose to raise your prices after tuning in.

So why is community something that we are both craving for our mental wellbeing, and interested in as a marketing strategy for small business?
Why is building a community or being part of community, help you build authority and reputation as a small business?
In this episode, Ruby answers both these questions for small business owners who have been thinking about their own "community" in 2021.

Mary Margaret Skelly believes a woman’s overwhelm and job satisfaction can be remedied by reconnecting to our essence, forgetting much of what we've learned about what a successful life looks like, and staying true to ourselves. The traditional, one-dimensional path simply does not work for most of us.
Having advised hundreds of business leaders through her work as an executive search consultant on Wall Street, in Silicon Valley, and for companies of all sizes across industries around the world. As the co-founder and former co-CEO of a sustainable fashion business, Weve, I also understand the unique challenges facing entrepreneurs. Her message is about consciousness and the freedom to choose a career path that allows for more creativity and more genius - whether that be in corporate or small business environment.

Jess Wells began her design career many years ago working for Lisa Messenger at the much adored Collective Hub magazine. After moving onto Aussie favourites, Seafolly and Miléa, she took a chance job offer that saw her relocate to Los Angeles to pursue her career within the fashion industry.

Having experienced the dark and wasteful side of the fashion industry first-hand, Jess has committed her future to collaborating only with clients whose hearts and back pockets are “in the right place”.
This episode we drop the formalities and this one is much like a conversation between girlfriends. We dive into Jess’s story, how she came to be led by values and learned big lessons around boundaries, her business model and finding her fit as a designer.

My guest today is THE definition of the word go-getter. To share with you in detail Mel Histon’s resume and achievements will be an extended intro to say the least. So before we get into the interview, here’s just a glimpse at what she’s been up to in the last few years.
After 10 years in corporate, Mel left to establish her photography business - a decision that would open new doors and a completely new life. After experiencing a number of life-altering events, Melissa created The Sista Code in May 2014 with a dream to see women empowered, happy and connected.
In 2016 she established Got Your Back Sista the charitable arm of The Sista Code movement. Her vision with this non-profit organisation is to see women and their children happy, thriving and living independently after escaping the trauma of domestic violence.
Got Your Back Sista offers benevolent relief and support to women and children escaping domestic violence and are at risk of living below the poverty line. In just this past 3 months as the country went into lockdown, the charity received 3x the number of calls for support.
And Mel’s love of community, uplifting women and creative projects doesn’t stop there. At the end of 2019, Mel launched her personal project the Hey Soul Sista podcast and just this year she opened an “op shop” to support the Got Your Back Sista charity.
In the spirit of the True to You podcast, we go wide and deep with this conversation. Exploring everything from Mel’s career journey, to a life-altering cancer diagnosis to family to mentors. This woman is truly remarkable and I am so pleased to be able to share this episode with you today. She is an example of someone who has followed her heart on the path towards meaningful work.

My guest this week is a bit of a powerhouse. Nerida Bint is the owner of Lissome gyms, who never started out her career wanting to be a personal trainer - let alone own a gym. But it was an unfortunate experience back in 2011, that led her to eventually beginning Lissome in 2014.
The vision for Lissome is to strive to make a global shift in the way women think about health through community, connection and contribution. Their mission is to empower 1 billion women to live more meaningful lives. And their values are community, excellence and courage.
In this episode, Nerida shares her career journey and taking big leaps even when you’re scared. She shares the “why” of Lissome, being a leader, leading yourself even as a solopreneur or team member and finally building a business brand as well as your personal brand as an owner.
This one is jam-packed full of inspiration for any woman looking to live a meaningful life.

For today’s episode I sat down with Cat Long in her beautiful light-filled office here in Newcastle to talk about her career journey that started at the kitchen bench 3 and 1/2 years ago when she launched her business Long & co.
Described as a small brand and marketing company with big expertise, Long & Co solve problems in a strategic and impactful way through Cat’s experience with global brands.
Our conversation ranges from the scary moments of starting a small business, to drawing on her Scandinavian heritage, juggling mum life and the flexibility of a business, and the importance of clarity in why and how you do what you do.
I love Cat’s straight up, thoughtful approach to her work and life, and for those perfectionists out there - be ambitious yet forgiving of yourself.

In this episode I share with you 4 core mindset shifts you can make to become more confident with selling what you do and why as women we don't have to buy into the belief that sales is icky or for certain people.
If you have a business, you are in sales and sales is the thing that helps you to do more of what you love and impact people's lives in the process.
Even if you don't have a side-hustle or full-time business, you can still apply these ideas to selling yourself to a perspective employee.
Let’s talk money Part Two: The five things I resisted talking about but has been the most powerful work I've done as I undertook a career transition.
My intention for this episode, is that you walk away with a feeling of “I’ve got this” and you can move forward with more freedom when it comes to money and your career.
In this episode I share how to:

My guest today today is Kendall Dodson. Kendall is many things, mama, primary school teacher and the creator of two businesses - Henry & Audrey and These Golden Daze. At the end of 2019, I was lucky to spend 3 months partnering with Kendall as her coach. Kendall is a big hearted woman, who is very clear in her mission and her values, which means every action is thoughtful and intentional.
When Kendall and I connected, she was at a crossroad and together we worked on laying the foundation for success which as she tells me, had her nudging her comfort zone almost every day since!
And for those of you who are wondering - These Golden Daze is about creating space to play, learn and create. Her goal is to inform and educate others of the benefits of play-based learning for young children and inspire parents to integrate this into their homes. All of the products are inspired by the natural beauty of the Australian environment and are kind to our earth.

Sara Spence is a doer, and when she thinks of hobbies - her two side-hustles are the things that make life fun (aside from her baby boy and partner of course).
Sara is the owner of a small business called Kate & Kole, an Art Director for a local creative agency and in 2018 she started Fe Collective. Fe was created because from a belief that we can all gain so much from having conversations with other small business owners.
Women often have similar motives when it comes to going into business for themselves. Whether that is creative freedom and financial independence or wanting to be able to balance having a family and a career, the journey is often the same. Fe is a wonderful space to network, share experiences, help where we can and say things out loud. Even if they are terrifying.
In this episode, Sara shares: + Her thoughts on taking risks with your side-hustles + How they set their brand Kate & Kole apart in a full market + What it is it like to collaborate with a friend in business and how to set yourself up to succeed + Why you need strong brand clarity + Knowing your strengths, outsourcing or collaborating and using your team + Splitting your time between multiple side-hustles + Why she created a female networking community in Newcastle

Jeni Steep is a Movement Teacher, Yoga Teacher and an advocate for womens’ health and wellness
She was first inspired by movement when she started taking movement classes 5 years ago, she was drawn in by the idea that exercise doesn’t have to be a chore, she realised it can be playful and fun but still challenging at the same time.
Hand balancing was her first movement addiction but as she began to explore she became very fond of a diverse range of modalities including gymnastics rings, acrobatics, yoga, dance, flow and martial arts (to name a few).
Jeni was inspired to teach after seeing the impact movement had made on her physical and emotional wellbeing. In 2017 Jeni began teaching movement classes and then in 2018 travelled to Ubud to complete her 200 hour Yoga Teacher Qualification. Jeni currently teaches movement classes out of The Movement Collective and is also available for 1:1 training both in person and online.
Jeni is also running a series of women's wellness events this year (2020) called Exuberant woman aimed at connecting women around the Newcastle area and inspiring them to lead life with purpose and from the heart.

Can you believe we are two days out from the end of a decade. Holy crap balls it’s crazy and exciting isn’t it?
Given this momentous occasion and my love of reflection recently, I thought I’d share with you the exact end of year process I did this year.
Typically, I do my end of year review and goal setting on or around New Years Day, but this year, I decided to start this process a little earlier on my birthday. I really recommend doing this if you can squeeze it in before Dec 31st rolls around, as it gives plenty of time for your vision and goals to marinate before you lock them in.
This year we're shaking it up and trying something different. The thought of a new decade on the way has me ready to reinvigorate my trusty old ways.
I've created a three part process which takes you from reflection to zone of genius to your goals. It takes around an hour or so to complete for one area of your life (in this case, I looked at my career and business), however, you may like to do the same for other areas of your life like health & wellbeing and relationships.
Just to get one thing straight - This is by no means the ONLY way to set goals, but I wanted to share it because it’s been hugely liberating and fun.

Your unique value is much deeper than the features of your service or product.
Most of us can articulate the “what” and the “how” pretty easily. But “why” you are more valuable than the woman next to you is a whole other ball game.
Personal brand is something we all have, and another way of bringing together all the elements that make us memorable and the unique value we bring to our work. ⠀ While we might think that only certain people need a personal brand, truth is — living in the digital age, means we have one whether we want to or not. So you can either be consciously aware of your value or you can leave it for someone else to decide.
So the real question is: not whether you have a personal brand, instead does your personal brand show your company, your future boss or clients what you’d like them to see and hear? what will set you apart if you’re one of many women talking about the same stuff?
Once you know your personal brand, the second thing you need to learn to do is express it!

My guest today is Phoebe Simmonds - founder of The Blow - Melbourne’s premium blow dry bar experience.
What you’ll love about this episode is Phoebe’s straight up audacity to build a business that embodies her values, a clear mission, deep knowledge of their customer and the contribution they want to make. Beyond the service itself is an underlying desire to empower women to feel like they can walk out of the salon and conquer the world.
The Blow extends this value of contribution and community through partnering with Australian charity “share the dignity” and by hosting live events in house collaborating with Lady Brains, Yes Queen, Moxie Period Products and Bumble Australia to name a few.
As you listen to Phoebe’s story, you’ll notice that every step of her career has led her to where she is today, building important relationships, her ability to be an indispensable employee (if you haven’t read Linchpin go do it now) and learning to play to her strengths and own her weaknesses.
This is a brilliant, brilliant episode for anyone on the cusp of launching their business or any woman looking to level up professionally - Phoebe has the goods!

Education is power when it comes to money for anyone, but when you start a small business, it can be a bit of a love hate relationship. To feel the love a little more, I thought we'd get into the basics of numbers and bring on a woman who wants to help you.
Today's guest is Amber Snowden of Zest Bookkeeping solutions, a local Newcastle solopreneur. We dive into her business journey, going from hairdressing to numbers and a recent stint she did in Bali with her family. We also get super practical and how to overcome the initial resistance we might feel when it comes to our finances. It's a great episode for anyone who has a business now, a side hustler or even someone contemplating turning a hobby into a legit business.

Today’s episode was inspired by the work of Brooke Castillo of The Life Coach School and Seth Godin and forms part one of a three part in a series around the topic of money.
Following on from this one, I’m excited to bring you two conversations with two fantastic local Newcastle women - Amber and Emm and we are going to explore finances for small business and making powerful decisions about money to support our careers.
But first, I’m going back to basics. In today’s episode, we're not talking about “where do babies come from?” instead “where does money come from?”
It’s fair to say that in my adult years, money and I weren’t always best of friends.
In fact, making a career change, actually prompted (or forced me rather) to do a crapload of work on rewiring my brain to create a positive relationship with money.
A short riff, on why creating change in your career can be scary as hell and another way to think about change in your career from a place of possibility.

In today's podcast we're talking about personal branding and it's importance in speaking about your business and as a job candidate. We cover:
Jade Pearsall is the owner of Puro People - a boutique recruitment agency and Harriet Hughes is an HR Specialist and creator of Newcastle Mama's a platform for women living the hustle somewhere between the nursery and the office.
Today’s episode is a special one - Hannah Mitchell's career story is super interesting (she fell into her many of her roles) and now she’s about to make a switch from accountant into educator for young people.
Her dream to be a facilitator of programs for teenagers that promote resilience, confidence and leadership skills inside and outside of the classroom.
At the start of our time coaching together, Hannah had two critical question she wanted answers to. Within the first few sessions she solved both and has a huge opportunity in the wings which you’ll about to hear about.
My favourite part of this episode is listening to Hannah’s determination to gain feedback on her ideas and find out what the needs are of the students and teachers - a critical process for her to know what problem she was solving, where the opportunities lay and think creatively as to how she could go about doing it without being a teacher initially. All of this while holding down a full-time job.
Have you heard of a book called The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks? If you have then you’ll be nodding your head all the way through this episode and if you haven’t - you might want to run to your nearest bookstore and get a copy.
What I loved about this book is his teachings around “the upper limit” or what you could also call self sabotage. The upper limit is what stops us from moving into the Zone of Genius.
Your “Zone of Genius” is where the magic happens – where you become so excited by your mission you can’t wait to get out of bed. It’s when you create a career or business that is uniquely expressing your true gifts.
To leap into the zone of genius we must dis-solve the upper limit - this self imposed limit for feeling good and achieving a level of success, so we manufacture thoughts to feel bad and sabotage ourselves.
In this episode, you'll hear of four ways you can begin to dissolve the upper limit with small daily action and awareness.

Today we’re looking at our relationship to time, our schedules, and how the “I don't have time” excuse can be reversed to be "I have time for that".
How do we make the things we love or the change we want to make in our career a priority? make it necessary, but not burn out in the process.
What’s our language around busy?
In the words of Danielle LaPorte - Are you an overwhelmed overachiever?
Do you feel like someone is doing your schedule to you instead of you owning it? Does this leave room to do more of what you love?
Or could you have ownership over time and your schedule?
We answer all of those questions and more in today's podcast - including 8 strategies to implement today!

While a big leap might look like an overnight thing to the outside world in reality it was the result of many, many twists and turns both internally and actions externally over several years.
Perhaps you’re wondering what those last few years have looked like going from Architect to coach? Today's podcast a short but not definitive list of the these little leaps and decisions, and the compound effect they had.

This week the roles are reversed and I'm sharing a recent "conscious conversation" I had with Lisa Bryant, on her show the Self podcast. Lisa and I discuss how I transitioned out of a full-time career as an architect to becoming a life and career coach for women, self love and what it was like for a woman working in a heavily male-dominated industry (but as you hear that is a changing my friends!).

Today’s conversation is one of my absolute favourites because I used to be terrible at this very thing for so long that it crippled me - decision making. All part of being an adult right?
Once I got clear on the tools I needed to make decisions often and with ease I no longer felt overwhelm and today you're getting all of them in one episode.

today we’re going to have a conversation about a topic that we might not want to talk about, but is super important for us in pursuit of meaningful work: what to do when you feel like you’ve lost your mojo - your creative mojo.
This conversation is really dear to me - not only has it been an important part of my own journey, but of course reigniting creativity is something I see my clients also desire too and often becomes an element of our work together.
I want to support your creative side, because I know this is an important part of your life, but it could also be your secret sauce to elevating your career.

Lisa Bryant shows up for her creativity - daily. After working for over a decade as a professional dancer, a career which took her around the world, she returned home to Australia and found herself going through a career transition. A transition that lead her to explore other ways of expressing herself through working as an actor, presenter, fitness coach and yoga teacher. In January 2019, Lisa started a daily podcast called Self - which she describes a short and powerful way to kick start your day with intention and a positive mindset. All because of this one daily creative act, she is being presented with new career opportunities and is taking the podcast offline with a collaboration called Well, which helps younger women with their mental and physical wellbeing through workshops.

Today's episode is a little unusual. After my interview with Jen Wright (Episode 3.), I thought it would be fun (and terrifying) to share the story I created as a result of her framework. This is a personal reflection of the stories I accumulated about belonging and fitting based on the way I interpreted my teenage experiences. Stories that ultimately led me to question my career path and make a big change several years ago.

Today’s guest is Jen Wright. Jen is a storyteller, life cheerleader and millennial motivator.
She’s also a wife, mama of eight children and a survivor of adversity. She's devoted the past two decades to shaping the next generation through youth work that has led her all over Australia.
Her most beloved treasures are faith, family and personal story.
In today’s conversation, we dive into the power of story and how doing this work can benefit your life on so many levels.
We discuss how story can be incorporated into your personal brand to support your career.
You’ll learn how story allows us to really explore empathy in the first person, empathy is a beautiful quality of a great leader, being an effective team member and an super important asset to building both a service or product based business and dealing with clients or customers face to face.
And finally, we also touch on storytelling as a catalyst for bringing women together in community.
