If you are struggling with loss now, or you have in the past, we have a very special episode of the Unleash Your Peace podcast for you today.

This week, we speak with creative visionary Stephen Powers. Stephen's prolific career expands across several industries and has touched the lives of millions worldwide. He is the COO of Wisdome LA, CEO of the publishing house Powers Omnimedia, and the former CEO of Bodhi Tree, one of our favorite spiritual shops in Los Angeles. As a GRAMMY-winning record producer, Stephen produced more than 150 albums with artists including Will.I.Am, Tina Turner, and The Beach Boys.

If you've met Stephen you know him as a powerhouse whose passion for creative, spiritual, and socially just endeavors seems to be endless. But did you know that he was actually on track to become an Oceanographer?

When Stephen was 18 years old and studying Molecular Biology at MIT, his younger sister was tragically killed by a drunk driver. It was not until he came face-to-face with his own mortality as a result of this horrible loss that he asked himself the question: "What do I really want to do?"

What Stephen's incredible story demonstrates is that embedded in even the greatest tragedies is an opportunity for expansion.

A decade after the death of his sister, a second heart-shattering loss left him distraught and angry at God. But through this agonizing darkness, he found the strands of light that eventually led him to a place of real internal peace, from whence he has inspired so many.

Mindful lawyering might sound like an oxymoron, it might even be funny as a concept, but in many ways, learning to lawyer mindfully could save the lives of those who practice it. It could also unlock unseen opportunities, create more balance, help solve problems more creatively and attract better clients -- all while creating a better quality of life.

In this episode, we talk to Los Angeles based immigration attorney and yogi, Layla Khamoushian, who shares with us about how her burnout experience lead her to find a better way to live.

What’s the worst thing in your life right now?  What’s the thing that’s keeping you up at night? What's giving you anxiety all day? Making you feel frustrated, angry, helpless or stuck?

Now answer this:  Is what you’re dealing with worse than getting shot?  Is it worse than lying in agony with a bullet in your groin, feeling life slip out of you along with endless pints of your blood?

You see, this is exactly what happened to our guest Arjuna O’Neal when he was only 19 years old. In this gripping episode of the Unleash Your Peace podcast, Arjuna shares how getting shot and literally dying actually saved his life.

So many of us wait to hit rock bottom before starting to crawl out of our self-created prisons. We entertain and even cater to those highly unproductive feelings of doubt, unworthiness, unlovableness, and self hatred until we can no longer afford to do so.

Well, we are here to tell you that you don’t have to wait until your unhappiness becomes unbearable before choosing a better life. You don't have to get shot before you find your true purpose.

Last night, I watched a hearth-wrenching and skillfully-performed one-woman show by a friend who shared the gruesome details of the traumatic experiences that shaped her early years. Personally, I can count on the fingers of my right hand how many people I've met in my entire life who didn't have one or a series of traumatic experiences that continue to haunt them well into their adulthood.

Some of these events might be trivial, like being ignored on the playground or getting lost in grocery store for a few minutes. Other events such as being raped by a parent witnessing a shooting are considered horrible by all standards.

And then there are the thousands of moments that sprinkle across our timeline on earth which are only punctuated by the way they make us feel.

Shame.  Guilt.  Anger.  Helplessness.  Fear.

These are the emotional signatures of the wounds we internalize and carry with us often to our death.

This week, on the Unleash Your Peace podcast, we speak with Natalia Ruiz who, after spending many years healing her own inner child, has created a safe haven for girls between the ages of 8 and 12 called "Girls Lead." Her organization empowers young girls to become leaders among their peers. They learn to address and work through their own life events BEFORE they become wounds for life.

A surprising majority of young girls will site "getting fat" as their biggest fear -- even above losing a parent or getting cancer.

Is this statistic surprising? It's not to the millions of young girls who make themselves sick trying to conform to unrealistic and even unhealthy body ideals engrained in them from a very young age.

Our guest, actor Kate Huffman, is all too familiar with the dangers of body dysmorphia and a false self image, especially when it is coupled with a bout of undiagnosed OCD. Kate shares openly about her journey from a very real and very literal brink of death into giving birth to a one-woman show that has been instrumental in her healing.

On this podcast, we often talk about living from a place of inspiration. Norah Dineen has taken this concept and applied it to one of the most arduous, fast-paced, stressful, and high-risk industries: filmmaking.

There is nothing quite like the way Norah Dineen approaches filmmaking. From the unconventional, heart-centered way she develops her scripts to the intuitive way she casts and the collaborative way she directs, the Dineen's creation process might be completely contrary to everything you'd learn in film school, but it is in complete alignment with the way our Inner Being creates.

The bigger our dreams, the less control can we have over the details of our life. This is why most people are unhappy with where they are and unwilling to take the leaps that would take them into the uncharted lands of their dreams.

In this episode, I share how my life turned upside down in 2018, leading me to giving up my apartment, selling my car, moving all my belongings into a storage and traveling the entire year. I encountered many revelations along the way. By far the most profound was the realization that the more I unchained myself from the should's and would's of the world, the more anchored myself into the universal consciousness that guides all life forms to thrive.

Have you taken the time to reflect on the highlights of 2018 and set your intentions for 2019?

If you have not done so already, sit with your journal and answer these very important questions:

  1. What were some of the highlights of 2018?
  2. What were the biggest lessons you learned?
  3. How did you demonstrate your power?
  4. What were some of the surprising ways in which you succeeded?
  5. What brought you the most joy?
  6. Who did you get closer to?
  7. Which relationships blossomed?
  8. What were you willing to let go of?
  9. What were you able to let go of?
  10. How have you opened up space for expansion?

Now that you’ve milked 2018 for some of its wonderful gifts, let’s define what you’d like 2019 to look like by answering the following questions:

  1. What are some experiences you’d like to have in 2019?
  2. Who are some of the people you’d like to meet or befriend?
  3. What are you looking forward to most in 2019?
  4. Which relationships would you like to deepen?
  5. How will you show your love to your loved ones?
  6. How will you show your love to yourself?
  7. What trip(s) are you looking forward to?
  8. Describe in detail the BEST and HAPPIEST day of the year.
  9. What will you accomplish this year? How does it feel when you accomplish it?
  10. Imagine the biggest WIN of your life taking place in 2019. What does it feel like?

More than 90% of people will NOT do this exercise. Those who don’t are the same people who will continue to create their live by default. These are the same people who will complain about things not going their way, about not having the job they want, about not being in the relationship they want, about not feeling fulfilled.

Don’t be one of these people.

Be one of the few who live deliberately.

Be one of the few who choose their life experiences.

Be one of the few who create the life of their desires.

On our fourth day talking about Integrity, we explore the intricate relationship between integrity and commitment. Could you be compensating for your lack of integrity with your exceptional ability to commit? Or is your superior integrity creating a fear of commitment?

View Details

On our fifth and final day of our discussion about Integrity, we talk about the power of integrity as it pertains to leadership.

View Details

Half way through our discussion about Integrity, we talk about one of the personality traits that can lead to lack of integrity, and that is the inability to say no. When we say yes all the time to every thing, we create a no-win situation because eventually something will fall through the cracks.

If your words is not law -- if there is no certainty in it -- that could explain why you're having trouble manifesting the life of your dreams. On our second day diving into the topic of Integrity, we explore how the Law of Integrity can work hand-in-hand with the Law of Attraction to bring you all that you desire.

View Details

On week of our journey into the inner world, we tackle the very important topic of Integrity -- Self-integrity, to be exact. Have you ever wondered why it seems to be so difficult for most people to create the lives of their dreams, even though each of us is an infinite Being capable of creating all that we desire? I believe this week's topic holds an important part of this answer.

On our fifth and final day talking about Blind Spots, we talk discuss why we bury these self-destructive beliefs in the first place, and how we can set them free with the use of love, compassion and forgiveness.

View Details

On our fourth day talking about Blind Spots and the destructive beliefs they conceal, we discuss one of the indicators that can help us identify some of our worst internal programming: Those qualities about ourselves we secretly hate.

View Details

On our third day discussing Blind Spots, we talk about the underlying faulty belief that most of our suffering is rooted — that the source of our happiness, joy, passion, fulfillment, love, and worthiness lies somewhere outside of us. Recognizing where we have externalized our source and releasing this is often the key in releasing disruptive and destructive beliefs that create and perpetuate suffering in our lives.

View Details

On our second day talking about Blind Spots, we dive into yet another way buried beliefs sabotage our lives. This time, we explore what happens if we have two contradicting beliefs on the same topic working against each other.

View Details

On our 11th week together, we explore yet another fascinating and important topic, that of Blind Spots. Often, the faulty programming we internalize becomes so much part of who we are that we bury it deep inside our subconscious where we are no longer willing or able to look at it. Then we build elaborate structures of faulty ideas, thoughts, habits, rules, and relationships atop these faulty beliefs and spend our entire lives trying to treat the symptoms.

But if we find the belief that is buried in our blind spot and release that, the entire structure of disfunction we’ve built atop it also topples over, and we level up in that same instance that we have our Aha! moment. This week, we explore all such moments.

View Details

On the fifth and final day of our discussion about fear, we look a bit closer at the symptoms of hidden fear and talk about how we can release this fear so we can pursue our dreams.

View Details

On the fourth day of our discussion about Fear, we talk about one of the many damaging manifestations of fear: walls. We build walls around our hearts, our selves, our homes, our cities, and our countries because of fear. But what’s the alternative? The alternative that we discuss is replacing all these walls with boundaries, which are rooted in love rather than fear. Walls keep people out, while boundaries show people where you stand in relation to them so they can know how to connect with you. Walls are built out of fear, boundaries are a natural byproduct of love.

View Details

On the third day of our discussion about the nature of Fear, we explore the relationship between fear and time. Research in the study of time tell us that there is literally less time the closer we are to the core of the earth. This is why we literally age slower at the base of a mountain than at the top of it. Similarly, we can shrink or extend time for ourselves with our thoughts. In today’s episode, we talk about why we experience more fear-based emotions when we extend time for ourselves, and how we can shrink time and literally lift ourselves out of these low-vibration emotions by raising our vibration.

View Details

On our second day discussing Fear, we dive into the one fear that is yet another by product of our separation from ourselves: the fear of success.

View Details

We cannot talk about Love without also talking about its opposite: Fear.

So, on our 10th week together, we dive into this extremely important topic that holds most of society in its clutches. As we make it through the week, we’ll explore all the different ways fear works its destructive spells on us, and how we can free ourselves from its grip. For today, we’ll discuss Napoleon Hill’s 6 basic human fears and I share why I think all fears, ultimately, are rooted in the fear of death.

View Details

On the fifth and final day of our discussion about the nature of love, we talk about what happens if we are so far away from love that it is hard to even imagine tapping into it. We explore the force that stands in opposition to love, which all negative emotions are rooted in as we discuss how to find our way back to love, if we do lose ourselves in fear.

View Details

On the fourth day of our conversation about this beautiful topic of Love, we dive into the not-so-pretty side of this topic as we venture into the land of heart breaks and divorces. In a world that increasingly values couplings rooted in love connections rather than convenience or practicalities, we are encountering a culture in which many find themselves forever in search of love, and never quite finding it. In today’s episode, we discuss the root cause of this epidemic, and we introduce an obvious solution that may be difficult to implement but can lead to magical results.

View Details

On the third day of our dialogue about the topic of Love, we discuss the nature of unconditional love, and how we can keep our hearts open and the love within us flowing while still maintaining healthy boundaries.

View Details

On our second day discussing the topic of Love, we dive a bit deeper into what love actually is by answering the question: “If love is an emotion, why do we treat it different than any other emotion?” We highlight the confusing way in which we talk about and express love, and discuss why it feels so good when we are actually experiencing its powerful vibration.

View Details

On our ninth week together, we dive into perhaps the largest topic we have yet covered: The topic of LOVE. As the highest vibration emotion we can experience, love is far more than any ordinary sensation. It is, in fact, our only true way into ourselves, because it is our true nature — it is what our Inner Beings are made of. In this episode, we look at a disturbing study from the 1940s that demonstrates not only our nature of love, but also the importance of the interconnected web of our relationships.

On the fifth and final day of our discussion about the highly-sensitive topic of Religion vs. Spirituality, I make a bold and perhaps controversial statement: that spirituality might be part of the natural evolution of religion.

View Details

On our fourth day discussing this big topic of Religion vs. Spirituality, we examine the science of spirituality by looking at current research that is attempting to understand the physiological changes that take place within the brain as a result of a spiritual connections.

View Details

On the third day of our discussion on the topic of Religion vs. Spirituality, we talk about one of religion’s biggest advisories: science. Scientific research is, in many ways, a very spiritual practice. And many scientists do tend to have robust relationships with their Inner Beings, so why then is there such animosity between the two? And is this separation necessary?

View Details

On the second day of our discussion about Religion and Spirituality, we try to find the common spine that runs through all religions and spiritual practices.

View Details

On our 8th week together, we dive into a slightly controversial and often uncomfortable topic of Religion vs. Spirituality.

Religion is considered one of the three taboo topics to bring up at a dinner party, the other two being politics and how to raise your children. Why? Because people often have very strong beliefs around these three topics, which they become extremely protective of. This is evidenced by the fact that we often tie our identities to our religious or spiritual practices. "I'm a Christian/Muslim/Jew/Buddhist/Atheist" is usually one of the first handful of things we share about ourselves with those who are meeting us for the first time.

Now, it might get uncomfortable this week as we dive into this very sensitive topic. And as we do, I have a request: if you do feel triggered or defensive, don't shut down. This is actually a GOOD THING! The tension you feel is contrast which always leads to expansion. So, embrace it. Use it to dive deeper into your personal relationship with the divine within you. I guarantee you that, if you do this, you will come out the other side feeling MORE at peace and MORE connected to your personal spiritual or religious practice.

View Details

On our last day discussing the very important topic of forgiveness, we go further inward by shedding light on those difficult relationships in which someone really gets under our skin. We explore the reason this person bothers us so much. We also discuss the self-forgiveness prerequisite that most people have a hard time with, and why some people would rather commit suicide than to experience shame.

View Details

On the fourth day of our dialogue about forgiveness, we talk about the flip side of the Guilt/Attack Cycle:  - What if YOU are the one inflicting pain on others? - What if YOU are the one stuck in the Guilt/Attack Cycle?  - How do you atone for and heal the guilt you've accumulated if you want to stop this destructive cycle?

View Details

On the third day of our discussion on the topic of forgiveness, we dive into perhaps one of the most destructive cycles of the human experience, which is often at the root of unraveling relationships: What I call the "The Guilt/Attack Cycle." This cycle is responsible for many failed marriages, for friendships falling apart, for strife between siblings. On a macro level, this cycle creates animosity and bad blood between tribes, communities, corporations, and even governments.

Healing and releasing this Guilt/Attack cycle is only possible through atonement and forgiveness -- as explained in this podcast episode.

View Details

In the second episode of our discussion about forgiveness, we talk about the only true way to forgive. By applying love and compassion to even the toughest situations, we can turn a sin into a mistake, and then transform that mistake into a wrongdoing that never happened. True forgiveness has taken place when we realize that there is nothing for us to forgive at all.

View Details

On Week 7 of our journey into the self, we are finally ready to dive into one of the biggest topics of our experiences in this world: Forgiveness. We create cages, unnecessary suffering, and even illness for ourselves through our unwillingness to forgive people and events in our lives. Forgiveness is the shortcut to true, lasting freedom.

In this episode, we talk about what forgiveness actually is and why it's so crucial in our lives.

View Details

On the fifth and final day of our discussion about the powerful connection between our minds and our bodies, we explore one of the most important contributors to a healthy lifestyle: our relationship with the food we consume. In this episode, we answer the question of whether or not a perfect diet exists.

View Details

On the fourth day of our discussion about the mind/body connection, we discuss how alignment and misalignment with our Inner Being manifests itself within the body. We also discuss how our thoughts create chemical reactions within the body which can change the physiology of our bodies when we are frequently exposed to the same thoughts and their resulting emotions.

View Details

On the third day of our discussion about the connection between the mind and the body, we take a closer look at Dr. Joe Dispenza's research into those who spontaneously heal themselves, and we review the four beliefs that, according to Dr. Joe, all people who have spontaneously healed themselves share.

View Details

On the second day of our discussion about the connection between the mind and the body, we talk about spontaneous healing and Dr. Joe Dispenza, whose work is closing the gap between science and spirituality.

One the first day of our discussion about the mind/body connection, we talk about illness and body aches. What do they mean? Why do they happen? And how can you call on your subconscious mind to facilitate and speed up healing.

On our fifth and final day of our deep dive into gratitude, we resort to some "real talk" to discuss why most people are sleepwalking through life, and how you can avoid the pitfalls of mediocrity and deliberately live the life of your dreams.

View Details

On the fourth day of our discussion of the importance of gratitude, we explore a side-effect of being grateful that may be a bit more obscure: its ability to raise our vibration into actually being more charismatic and more influential.

View Details

Half way through our discussion about gratitude this week, we explore its connection to inspiration and creativity. Given the high vibrations of gratitude, it should not be surprising that gratitude and creativity are closely linked. In fact, a state of intense gratitude and thankfulness is not only a beautiful way bringing yourself vibrationally into the vicinity of inspiration, but can also make it much easier to enter a state of flow.

View Details

On the second day of our exploration of Gratitude, we address a very important problem that some of you might have: What if everything in your life is so terrible that finding one thing to give thanks for feels nearly impossible? What if you are nowhere near the vibrational vicinity of gratitude?  We give you three simple suggestions for things to do that can raise your vibration within minutes and make it easier for you to find gratitude and appreciation in your life.

View Details

On the first day of this week's topic, we talk about gratitude: what it is, why it matters, and how it has the power to bring into your life all that you desire.

View Details

On the fifth and final day of our topic this week, I share a personal story that demonstrates all the ways we fight ourselves when we feel too exposed by our dreams. How I was able to break through was one of the most powerful moments of my life.

View Details

On our fourth day discussing your life purpose, we dive into the relationship between contrast and expansion. We discuss why people get in their own way when they feel they have not lived enough contrast to justify their dreams, and ask you the most important question at all: Are you ready to receive?

View Details

Half way through this week's topic, we explore the relationship between the ego, our Inner Being, and our life's purpose by talking about one of the most powerful tools the ego uses to keep us from pursuing our dreams.

View Details

On the second day of our search for the meaning of life, we explore the importance of inspiration through a story about one of the great comedy directors who changed the face of comedy for good. And we talk about the most fatal mistake most people make that gets in their way of living a life of their choosing.

What is our life's purpose? Why are we here? Is there one unique gift, task, or assignment we come to accomplish? Or is our life's purpose a moving target -- constantly changing and evolving?  This week, on Unleash Your Peace, we dive into this very important topic, in an effort to decode yet another aspect of the internal world.

View Details

One the fifth day of this week's topic, we close the discussion about Duality and Contrast by talking about one of the biggest mistakes we make in the name of love: taking away someone else's choice because we think we know better than they do.

View Details

On the fourth day of this week's topic, we introduce a simple two-step process to creating all of your dreams. 1) Neutralize the situation by reframing it, 2) Use your power to choose. We talk about how our ability to choose is our greatest ability as humans.

View Details

On the third day of this week's topic, Ellie Shoja shares details of her contrast-filled, unconventional childhood (growing up with an abusive, con artist father, living in refugee camps, and moving incessantly) in order to demonstrate how reframing her experiences helped her release her suffering and find lasting internal peace.

View Details

On day 2 of our topic this week, we try to experientially understand the importance of contrast in the creation process by painting an image of a perfect world, where all beings are the same, communication is instant and perfect, and there is no need or lack of any sort. In such a world, there are no needs to be fulfilled, no questions to be answered, and no problems to be solved. And therefore, there is no need to create at all.

This week on Unleash Your Peace, we dive into the world of contrast and duality. We discuss what these are and why they are necessary for our existence and our ability to create and expand. We answer questions like:  - What is life?  - What are duality and contrast and why do we experience them? - Why does it feel like we're always being tested? - Are we being tested? And if so, how can we pass this test? - Why does it feel like we have to suffer before we can succeed? - Do we have to suffer? How can we avoid suffering? Tune in Monday through Friday this week as we dive deep into this topic in an effort to correct a major misunderstanding about the nature of duality and contrast, which is at the root of much of our self-imposed suffering.
