Paola is a doctor in psychology who works in the Bronx community. Paola migrated to the USA from Bogota Colombia when she was 14 years old. Since then she has been in charge of her family pretty much as she calls it the CEO of her family!
This can be a very challenging experience, holding tons of responsibility and Paola also has seen it as an opportunity to learn from all she is capable of doing.

I had the amazing opportunity to talk to Tess, she is a financial advisor and an immigrant.
Tess moved to the USA when she was a teenager after graduating from high school in Bulgaria. She also lived in Africa with her family before coming to the states. Tess grew up in a family where talking about money was not taboo and this inspired her later in life to help others manage their finances and build wealth.

I had the amazing opportunity to talk to Oscar about his immigration journey from Mexico. He had a very difficult experience of being separated from his mom when he was only 2 years old when crossing the border to the USA.
In this interview, we talked about the impact that some of our immigration experiences can have on our mental health, the healing process of overcoming those challenges, and the importance of building a community so we don't feel alone!
Oscar also explained how it has been for him to be a DACA recipient and some of the misconceptions that people have about undocumented immigrants.
Oscar is motivated by leaving spaces better than how he found them and that was such an inspiration to me!

Can you imagine the culture shock of a 16-year-old girl traveling to Canada for the first time all by herself?
Back when Katerina migrated phones weren't a thing so communication with her family back home in Ukraine was pretty much nonexistent! Katerina shares how she was able to navigate the challenges and the culture shocks while feeling the most excited about the opportunity of living abroad!

I virtually met our guest Kimberly thanks to a viral TikTok that reflected the experiences of an immigrant in the USA with a very powerful message of SI SE PUEDE!
The movie Encanto and most specifically the experiences of the character Luisa, inspired Kimberly to record this video speaking about the challenges of a first gen immigrant. Warda is a Somali-American writer and in this week's episode, she is sharing with us the reality of her refugee experience in the USA.
Her journey has been challenging, full of barriers and losses, and at the same time, she has risen, healed, and developed resilience. She is a first-generation college student and she wrote a wonderful book where she shares her immigration journey!
What has helped Warda the most in her journey is being able to ask for help and connect with kind people that are willing to support her.

Episodio Especial - Ayuda a refugiados e inmigrantes Venezolanos!
No hay forma de que este episodio no me conmueva y no me haga sentir dolor y a la vez orgullo por el país de donde vengo. Es una mezcla de sentimientos que sé que muchos de ustedes comparten!
Tuve el honor de conocer un poco más sobre una fundación que admiro y respeto muchísimo. Humanitarian Action es una non profit que se dedica a ayudar a Venezolanos dentro y fuera del país.
En el episodio hablé con una de sus co fundadoras, Marisela y con una de sus voluntarias Ana Gabriela. Las dos nos ayudan a entender cómo su propio camino de inmigración las ha motivado a ayudar a otros inmigrantes.

A journey from England to Mexico, a story that inspired me and taught me a lot about how much emigrating has to do with love.

Yessi is a first generation college graduate student, a Latina and an immigrant that is breaking barriers.
Yessi gained full understanding of her legal status when she was a teenager. When others were starting to get jobs and drivers licenses, she couldn’t. When others were applying for colleges and scholarships, she didn’t know she had options.
What's most powerful about this story is that Yessi NEVER stopped moving forward. Even when she had to go back to Colombia to wait for her papers, even when she was losing hope. She kept going.

I had the opportunity to talk to Shehla and I have to admit that it has been one of the interviews where I have learned the most.
Shehla opened up about the challenges of being a Muslim in the USA, the stereotypes that have affected her and how she uses her podcast “I’m a Muslim and that’s ok” to teach others about her experiences.
We talked about common misconceptions about Muslims, the hardest topics she has had to address in her podcast and the importance of seeing people as individuals rather than a collective in order to avoid racism and biases.

Ximena left her home country, Colombia, when she was a kid. Her family came to the USA seeking political asylum, which was denied after 7 years of pending status.
When returning to Colombia she felt like she was an immigrant (in her own county) all over again.

Tener un pasaporte o nacionalidad no te hace "ser" de un país. Mi invitada nació en Estados Unidos, por casualidades de la vida, que comparte en el episodio pero creció y se crió en Guatemala.
Luego de perder a su papá cuando era adolescente tomó la difícil decision de dejarlo todo y mudarse a los Estados Unidos en busca de un cambio y nuevas oportunidades. Con la idea de que al tener la nacionalidad se le haría todo más fácil.
La realidad es que le tocó enfrentarse a muchos retos, a estar sola, a ser independiente y a navegar diferentes trabajos que nunca se imagino que estaría haciendo. I met Justin a little after arriving to Seattle. He was also new in the city and that made us connect really quick. He was my first friend that was originally from the USA! Yes, I know! Ligia was born and grew up in the US identifying herself as Dominican and Latina. She never found herself represented on the Latin American media or TV when growing up. Andrea decidió irse de Mexico por amor. Persiguiendo la oportunidad de vivir con su novio en Santiago de Chile. Se conocieron en Canadá cuando los dos estudiaban inglés y por más que evitaron enamorarse, pasó!
Andrea comparte su historia, de inmigración y las lecciones que ha aprendido en el camino. Todavía siente que está en un proceso de adaptación. Al llegar a Chile le tocó vivir las protestas en medio de un momento muy difícil que pasaba el país. Poco después vino la pandemia del coronavirus. Todos estos eventos han afectado su inmigración y nos cuenta lo que ha aprendido en el proceso.
A pesar de los retos que está enfrentando sigue emprendiendo y creando. Andrea hace manualidades y crea piezas hermosas que le recuerdan a su país y sus raíces. También junto a su novio creó una empresa para ayudar y asesorar a personas que deseen ir al extranjero a aprender inglés, así como lo hicieron ellos. At 12 years old Anna wrote in her diary that she wanted to leave Belarus. She became an immigrant when she was 19 years old. She was the first, and only in her family, to leave her home. She took the amazing opportunity to go live in Dubai and later on she moved to the USA where she currently resides.
Anna shares her journey living in Belarus, Dubai and the USA and how each experience has made her more open to the way she sees the world.
We talk about the impact that the American culture had in her life, the challenge of creating deep connections as an immigrant, her experience of being in a long distance relationship until her visa was ready for her to move to the USA and how she was able to reinvent herself from being a "Russian Model" to being a student and a wife, challenging herself and growing with every experience.

It seems like my guest has been an immigrant for her whole life. From Canada to Germany, to Japan, and currently in the USA. Her first experience was as a teenager when her family decided to moved from Canada (where she is originally from) to Germany for 3 years. We talked about how she felt during those years and how much that experience influenced her. Later on, she took a teaching job in Japan. She shares how living in a small town in Japan, not knowing the language, and exploring a new culture feels! We talk about the challenges of being a minority and how much traveling can make you more empathetic to issues you never truly understood. She also shares the amazing story of how she met her husband on that journey. Her marriage brought her to the USA and we talked about visas, green cards, the idea of becoming a citizen, and what that means to her. Jen also talks about some differences that she has found in between the Canadian and the American culture.

Ana María es una Venezolana, Caraqueña, que decidió irse del país después de intentar con todo su corazón quedarse. La situación en Venezuela, el despido de PDVSA, el futuro de sus dos hijos y muchas cosas más la impulsaron a buscar algo mejor en los Estados Unidos.
