It's no surprise that we're all experiencing extreme amounts of stress at a time like this. Human beings don't like uncertainty, in fact, we do everything we can to reduce uncertainty as much as we can through various strategies. But what happens when we don't have the strategies we need to succeed at reducing uncertainty? We turn to coping mechanisms. In this episode, I discuss why uncertainty causes so much stress and different ways we try to reduce it. I also talk about using exercise and nutrition as a coping mechanism, and put an emphasis on body neutrality over body positivity.

We can't stop stress from happening, but we can control certain variables when we're in a stress response. In this episode, I discuss what stress is and what happens when we stay in stress for short periods of time compared to long periods of time. I also talk about research from neuro-ophthalmologist Dr. Mithu Stornoi on tips to get our brains out of "high alert" after we've encountered an acute bout of stress so we can think clearly and rationally later on. To finish, I discuss what I think the worst kind of stress is and what we can do about it!

Not everyone is motivated to exercise, and then some people are highly motivated and over exercise. In either case, it's about the quality of movement we engage in, not the amount. In this episode, I discuss strategies for either building exercise into your life, or scaling back when you're over doing it. I also discuss intuitive exercise and why it's a method that works for some people but not for others. Thanks so much for listening!

We strive for a lot of things in life; money, performance, a better body, good grades, but we aren't striving for one of the most important aspects of health. If we want to be healthy mentally, and have a good relationship with our body, we need to strive for peace within ourselves, not external aspects. This is a "catch up" episode where I go over where I'm at in my HA recovery and why striving to make peace with your body should be your top priority.

While we often think of the environment when we hear the word 'sustainability', we often don't think about sustainability on a human level. Every time we go to the grocery store, we have access to hundreds of foods, but have you ever asked yourself where these foods come from and what really goes on in food production? Here to address some key issues in food production and consumption is Sociologist and Professor Dr. John Manzo.

In this episode, I go over different aspects of what "good health" can mean on varying levels.

Hypothalamic amenorrhea (aka: not having a period), is so much more common than many of us realize. While being lean and fit is a good thing, if women under eat and overexercise for too long, it can have a negative effect in the body in many ways-especially when it comes to our cycle. I have gone through HA twice; the first for 4 years and the second for 10 months. In this episode, I discuss what I did to get my period back each time. I want to caveat this by saying this is my story and I worked closely with my doctor. What worked for me won't necessarily work for you, but you may be able to gain some personal insight. My advice does not replace that of your doctor and this is not a medical podcast-this is my story.

If you are going through HA, please seek care from your physician.

Ah, this question: will weightlifting make me "bulky"? I love it, but also hate the generic responses that are given-especially by personal trainers! The answer to this question is not a clear yes or no because any over generalized statement that involves a huge majority of people can never be as simple as "yes" or "no". Let's go into the reasons why the answer to this question isn't so simple!

With all the information we have at our finger tips, we are becoming more and more aware of what we eat and how much we exercise. While this awareness can be a great thing, it can also foster an unhealthy relationship towards food and the way we exercise if we aren't getting information from the right sources. Today I discuss the unhealthy links that so many people have between how much/what they eat and how much exercise they do. I also talk about the new proposed PACE labelling system that may be implemented on nutrition labels and how detrimental that could be to our mental health and relationship with exercise.
