Can't quite believe we have a horror themed episode this early in the year, and it's not even Spooky Season! Yes, we ventured out to the cinema to witness the Robert Eggers interpretation of Nosferatu in the month of January (the film was released in 2024 for the USA - we had to wait 'til 2025).

It's round two of 'Ani-May' (still a clever title) and we asked the Patreons to pick one of two cyberpunk-themed heavy hitters. Yes, to Sophie's delight, we're going gritty instead of cutesy from the start with Katsuhiro Otomo's 1988 anime movie Akira.
Despite the despair that occurs in this dytopian 'future', there is still beauty to be found - as Paul tries to point out to Sophie throughout the discussion. An epic tale of both romance and disaster from visionary filmmaker James Cameron - yes, we are finally setting sail to talk about the legendary 1997 movie Titanic. This is Sophie's first time experiencing it, and so; does the grand maiden voyage of the famous ship entrance her, or does the whole experience sink to the depths like the tragedy that befell it?

As spooky season '23 draws to a close, Paul decided to really test Sophie's mettle with the scariest movie of all time - The Exorcist, directed by the late great William Friedkin who sadly passed away this year, which makes this episode even more poignant.

Wassan? It's a nautical themed episode for a movie that Sophie hasn't seen before, and it's the debut experimental drama from Mark Jenkin called Bait, set in a British coastal town in Cornwall and cited by Mark Kermode as 'a genuine modern masterpiece'.

Following a slight hiccup in the scheduling, this episode is covering another movie we're both experiencing for the first time, and it's the 1993 action-thriller Harrison Ford vehicle that is The Fugitive!

As the month of 'Ani-May' draws to a close. we asked the Patreons to pick from two Mamoru Hosoda movies, and this one won by a landslide (although it is only technically two-thirds a Hosada film...)
Paul, as you may know, is a big fan of Pokémon - and Digimon is another favourite monster franchise he grew up with and still embraces to this day.
