Walking Life Together: Recent Episodes

Heather Gibson

Do you sometimes struggle with your focus? Struggle with living (and loving) like Jesus in a world that doesn’t always look or feel a whole lot like Him? Are you allowing the culture around you to guide your life instead of being guided by His truth and the ultimate command…to love like Him?

This can be a struggle for all of us, but at the end of the day, walking in love should be our highest goal. No matter how hard this feels…it is the goal. Loving others means compromise. It means having those hard conversations. Loving others can even mean not always sharing your opinion. (It’s okay to sit a discussion out. We don’t have to reply to everything we see, read, or hear.) Sometimes it can mean just being still.

Loving others also means walking life with them. In order to walk life with someone else, we have to compromise on some things. We must be willing to have those hard conversations … with the intent to remain friends!

We’re not called to walk life alone. Join me every other week as I dive into different topics about situations we all face and let’s navigate this life together. If you are struggling with things you see around you, not sure how to respond to situations in life, or maybe you’re sure you’ve inserted your foot into your mouth (as I have many times in my life) and you want to learn how not to do that, then this show is for you. Join me and let’s walk life together.

Hey friends! Thank you so much for joining me in this last episode. Well, last episode for now at least. If the Lord calls me back, I’ll be back. 😊 But for now, I know a break is needed to focus on other things God’s called me to.

So, I spent some time thinking and praying about what to say in this episode, and I came away with this … I will speak about love. I’ll speak about how the Lord calls us to walk … which is with love for others. In John 13:34-35 we read this: “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” How will people know that we are His disciples, which truly will be us shining the light of Jesus in their lives? It will be by our love for one another. ❤️

The more we, followers of Christ, live and love one another, the more attractive we look to the hurting world. We’re called to stand out … to look different … to love like Christ. If we do this, if we can love one another in the body of Christ, we will see others come to know Him too.

Friends, I again want to thank you for joining me on this journey, for walking life with me! It’s been an enjoyable adventure! I do hope you can say the same! This time has led to such growth in my life. God definitely challenged me when He asked me to step into this. I didn’t know where it would go but I can say, I don’t regret a minute of it. Which, honestly, I don’t think we will ever regret a moment spent walking in the things He’s called us to. That doesn’t mean they won’t be difficult 🤣 … but they will ALWAYS be worth it.

Thank you for tuning in!

Well, I love you all! Thank you again for making this journey AMAZING! Be blessed because you are a blessing. 🥰

Where does your mind go when you hear the word success? Do you immediately think of how much $ one makes, or maybe how big of a home someone has, or maybe it’s the type of work one does and the rank of their position within a company? I can tell you, a quick few clicks on the web will show you that most people seem to define success in one of these ways.

As of lately, my mind has been soaking on this question … “What is the measure of success?” Or maybe I should say, “How does Heather Gibson see success?” This is an important question that we should all ponder. In this episode, I look at success, what I think is true Biblical success.

Happy New Year, amazing Walking Life Together friends! I consider it a privilege that you would join me at the start of this new year! I pray at the end of 2023 you were able to see the good things that came from the year … even if you had to sift through some challenging and painful situations to locate the good… to find the blessings. Sometimes that’s life, isn’t it? But I can tell you, the good is there. 😊 It’s always there! The situations we walk through don’t have to define us or our day, but our reaction to the situations certainly does … and our reaction is always our choice.

While my 2023 ended a little bumpy and much differently than expected, I am CHOOSING to see God at work in the midst of the challenge. I KNOW He’s at work, even when I cannot see it. Though, I believe I’m seeing some changes that are good and for that, I rejoice! 🙌🏼 Many times it’s through the struggles that growth and change occurs. I believe this will be no different! 😊

In this episode, I take time to recap a bit from last year as well as look into 2024. Please join me and let's walk life together!

The joy of gifts ... well, and sometimes the laughter they bring ... or in some cases, the confusion, which was the case with the bike pedals I received one year for Christmas! 😂

In this episode I share stories of gifts I've received as well as stories shared with me by some dear friends of gifts they've received. Some of the stories are funny, while some are sweet. I pray they all give you a chuckle or warm your heart in this Christmas season. It would bless me greatly if you decide to listen in and join me on this journey!

In Acts 20:35, we can read something from Paul’s farewell letter to the Ephesian elders. He said, “In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”

I couldn’t agree with that statement more … it is more blessed to give than to receive! Giving produces such joy! To be able to bless someone else … there’s nothing like it. When I think of the times others have blessed me by giving - whether it was a gift, a kind & encouraging word, bringing me a meal when life was hard - as I remember how people have stepped into my world to help, I am reminded to think on how I can do the same for others. Just as someone (or many someones) have stepped into my need, I want to do the same for those God places in my life.

The perfect life. Well, no one has had that and no one ever will. That said, I do think it’s important to watch our perspective on life. While it’s not perfect, we certainly can make the best of it and learn to be thankful in all things.

In this episode, I talk about different times in my life and some of the hard things I walked through. We all have these times. Our stories might be alike … or maybe they’re different, but I believe we are similar in that we’ve all faced hard times and we all have a choice about how we respond. Not only will I share the hard time but I’ll also share the perspective I gained and what I can be thankful for.

Some of the topics from my life that I discuss are:

  • my broken home years as a child
  • my single parent years
  • the blended family years as an adult
  • our loss of Ash

In ALL these times, I have found something I can be thankful for. Maybe not during the storm, but I certainly did after the storm passed.

So please join me and let's learn and grow together!

I know life can be hard but I believe we all have some good times we can be thankful for. ❤️

Storms shake up our lives. Sometimes what is revealed after the storm settles is a revelation we need. Do we learn from what we see and grow through it or after the dust settles, do we go back to the way things were? I'd like to say I learn all the time! LOL. But, that just isn't true. I usually gain a more clear perspective of what's important in life directly after a time of affliction or suffering, but I don't always hold on to that new (and often better) perspective. It slips away as life keeps on moving.

I walked into the ultrasound room for my normal check up … or it was supposed to be a “normal” check up. The amazing woman who had provided the ultrasound on a few previous occasions placed the cold gel on my stomach and started rolling the ultrasound wand over my belly. I didn’t notice anything at first. Providing ultrasounds wasn’t my day job so nothing seemed out of the ordinary to me, plus it had been 10 years since I’d had ultrasounds on a “regular pregnancy basis” during my pregnancy with my son. So all seemed normal to me. Cindy, the ultrasound lady, asked a few questions - had I eaten that day? - when was the last time I felt him move? Then she said, “I’ll be right back.” She walked out and I heard her yell for the doctor, with what sounded like concern in her voice.

It was then that everything registered. There was no sound on the ultrasound. My doctor walked in and I could tell by the look on her face, our son was no longer alive. 😔 Much of the next few days were a blur. We went to the hospital that night to begin the labor and delivery process. I won’t go into much detail but that was probably one of the hardest things I’ve walked through. My doctor, the staff at the hospital, the funeral home, my church family, my work family, and so many other people were amazing. I know people helped carry me through when the world looked like a fog.

I share all this to say … When we walk through times like that, we get a glimpse of the things that truly matter…and let me tell you…most things that I had probably worried, grumbled, or complained about 24 hours prior didn’t matter at all. It’s like I got a brand new view on life and what I hold valuable.

Today I will talk about suffering. Wait…please don't click off this episode! I know, it’s not a fun or exciting topic but I believe there’s a purpose for our suffering. So, hang with me for a short time! I promise it will be worth it! 😊

We'll look at a few verses and what the Bible says about suffering and I also share a short story I read recently that relates to suffering. (And, just a quick side note about stories that I need to share. Stories are so good! Take time to share stories with people. Stories bring us closer and make us relatable! We’re more alike than we are different, friends! Take time to get to know one another!) So, I don’t find it a coincidence that the story I found is on the loss of a baby, since that’s part of my story … but this story also relates so closely to what a friend of mine is currently walking through. I do believe God led me to this story for such a time as this. ❤️ The article I located this story in is called, “Christian Living - A Story of Suffering,” by Amy K. Hall. Amy discusses how we … Christians … don’t talk enough about suffering … and I would agree with her. It’s a topic we avoid, just like it’s a part of life we try to avoid, but it's something we all deal with so why avoid the topic?

So please join me and let's learn and grow together!

Today, we take another look at comfort, diving into a few verses from Isaiah 40. I also share a few short, yet amazing stories about people bringing comfort to those who are hurting. Powerful, yet impactful stories.

We've all been in a place of needing comfort. I pray you've received the comfort you need from others so lovingly being the hands and feet of Jesus, but more so because you KNOW Jesus yourself. (There's no other like Him.)

To know that we can be comforted by an immeasurable God! Doesn't that give you peace. The One who holds it all in His hands holds you and your future in His hands. There's nothing unseen to Him. That, my friend, gives me such peace and comfort. Why should I fear knowing He has me?

‭‭In this episode, I speak about Isaiah‬ ‭40‬:‭1, which‬ says, “Comfort, comfort my people, says your God."

This is meant to be a message of encouragement for people who were in the midst of a struggle. The Lord desires that we not get discouraged in hard times. Hard times will come. That’s a certainty. In those times, where are our eyes looking? Are they looking around? Or looking up?

There’s comfort in the madness. Where our focus lies though, might dictate if we will be comforted or not. Can comfort come if we’re not seeking the Comforter? Peace cannot be gained if what we’re allowing into our hearts and minds is constant stress and chaos that is filled with fear and confusion. I desire peace. The world and its systems certainly are not providing peace. We will lack peace if that’s where our focus lies.

When the words “comfort, comfort my people…” were spoken by God, they were said for a reason. The people were facing difficult circumstances and they needed comfort. Maybe you’re familiar with circumstances like that. I know I am. As I thought about the upcoming election and the Lord took me to Isaiah 40, I felt led to share that through it all, He is our comfort … just as He was for the Israelites many years ago. When everything around us looks crazy, He is our comfort. When we look around and things just don’t make sense, He is our comfort. When we can’t see beyond the storm, He is our comfort. Friends, He is our comfort if we so choose. We can choose Him as our comfort, seeking Him in all things and in all circumstances.

Today I share a big part of my story ... a story of God's healing love abounding in my life. For years I sat bound in chains due to having had 2 abortions in my late teens ... until God met me at a baby shower. YES! That's how good God is ... to start my healing process in the exact place I carried so much pain and shame.

I would love for you to join me on this journey, listen in, and then jump over to the Walking Life Together FB Group. Much of what I share about in this episode will also be talked about in that group. I have images and videos to share that I just couldn't share here.

I pray this story ... His story of the healing that took place in my life ... blesses you! I pray it encourages you to step out! I pray it reminds you of God's redeeming and restoring power. Oh how the Father loves us.

It takes a village. How many times have we heard that phrase in our lives? Many ... or at least I have. It comes from the phrase, “it takes a village to raise a child,” which originates from an African proverb. While it began with a focus on raising children, and rightfully so because it absolutely does take a village to raise a child, I also think we need a village in life, to make it through the hard times, to learn with, to grow with, to have close relationships with others.

WE

NEED

PEOPLE

I’ve said it many times and I’ll repeat it again because I believe so deeply that it’s true, we’re not called to walk alone. We NEED others. We need a village.

If this message spoke to you about the need for a village, please reach out to those near you so you have someone to share the load with. Maybe you’re afraid to ask someone to help you because you don’t want to burden anyone. YOU ARE NOT A BURDEN. Reach out to those near you. I am also a message away. While we may not be in close proximity, I would gladly be a listening ear and a friend to walk this road with you. And if there’s something I can help with, I absolutely will!

If you don’t have a village, seek one. They would love to have you! You’re the missing puzzle piece that they need!

If you have a village, be thankful! I know I am so thankful for mine. Y’all know who you are. ❤️

Let’s make sure our village knows that we love them! That we honor them! Let’s dive in and walk life closely with them! ❤️ We need them and they need us.

Be blessed friends!

What if …

What if Moses would have said “no” to the call God had on his life?

What about Paul? What if he would’ve said “no.”

What about Martin Luther King Jr.? What if he had not been bold and courageous to stand up for the wrongs of his time?

What about the countless people who stood bravely against Nazism?

What if… That’s not something I like to think about. Where would we be if not for these courageous people?

Listen in on this episode to hear stories of courage, as well as being challenged to walk out your own brave story. Our step of courage could help someone else be courageous! Let's take these steps together, as we walk life together friends!

Happy 4th of July beautiful people! I hope your celebrations have been fun! 😊 … and safe. 😊

In this episode, I want to touch on the topic of freedom. What is it? How do we view it? Are there different views or types of freedom? If so, is one valued more than another? Do we hold the correct view of freedom? What does it mean to us as Americans to be free? What about our Biblical view of freedom? Is there a difference in these 2 types of freedoms? Do we celebrate or maybe consider one type of freedom as more important than another? Lots of things to think about. The older I get, or maybe I should say, the more I come to know God and His word, the more I see my view on this topic may need to be adjusted some, It definitely has been adjusted some, but there’s ALWAYS room to grow. 😊

I am truly thankful for my freedom. … for my freedom because I live in a free nation, and for my freedom found in Christ. Both are important to me. I believe at times though, we place one above the other, kind of getting things out of balance. Yes, my freedom of speech is important, my freedom from a tyrannical government is important, but my freedom in Christ comes above all else.

  • My freedom in Christ allows my joy to overflow NO MATTER THE CIRCUMSTANCE.
  • My freedom in Christ provides a hope that goes beyond ANYTHING my government can offer.
  • My freedom in Christ cannot be taken from me no matter my physical location.

Do I desire the freedom I have because I live in a free nation? ABSOLUTELY! I LOVE MY FREEDOM and am so thankful I was born in America. MANY nations do not have the freedoms we do. And I’m thankful for ALL who have fought for the freedoms I have. Some gave it all so that I could live free. Can words express the “thanks” owed to them and their families? Probably not. "Thank you" seems like such a small response. We can honor and respect those who CHOOSE to serve. That is a good place to start. What a beautiful sacrifice they are willing to make. Standing up, protecting, fighting for people they don’t even know. Yes, I am thankful for my freedom provided by these men and women.

Being away from church for a few Sundays while on vacation opened my eyes to what it's like to be absent from the church. We're missed and we miss out!

I am in NO WAY saying we shouldn't take vacations! WE ABSOLUTELY SHOULD! Rest is biblical. What I am saying is, it's important to be rooted in a church and to show up! We are all needed. We're part of a functioning body and without one person, the body doesn't function at full capacity. You are needed, friend.

For this episode, I want to put out a challenge to my listeners. I would like you to share how you believe the Lord has been working on you, specifically sharing in what areas He has “checked your heart” lately. It can be in regards to something I've shared on an episode at some point or maybe it’s something totally separate.

If you email me and share your experience, I will enter your name in a drawing for a prize. ❤️😁 Please send the email to walkinglifetogether@gmail.com.

I will not share your personal story. That will be between me, you, and the Lord. Always know, I will never share anything that is shared with me unless I receive permission from you.

So, please send me an email with your story about how God has checked your heart lately. Maybe you can share what it was in regards to ... how did you respond at first, because sometimes we don’t immediately get excited to receive something the Lord is trying to help us work on. LOL. Maybe it took time for you to respond as God would like. What has the outcome been? Or, maybe you’re still in process with this specific thing and it’s something we can talk through and pray about together. There’s really no set format for this. I’d just love to hear how the Lord has been challenging you to grow.

All entrees must be in by 6/19/23.

Thank you so much for your willingness to share! I look forward to the opportunity to pray for you.

Be blessed friends, because YOU ARE A BLESSING!

Today I am going to talk about how Jesus responded to people or different groups of people. I believe the Lord led me to this topic because I am not sure we always respond as He would. (I know these are areas I need to grow in!)

How do we know how Jesus responded? We can look to the word for guidance. How do we know how we should respond? Well, because He’s our example. ANY OTHER EXAMPLE would not be the example we, as believers, should follow.

I'll dive into the following topics regarding who Jesus responded to and how He responded to these people/groups:

  • political groups/government
  • religious folks/leaders
  • sinners
  • the broken
  • violence

Jesus truly is the example of how to love others. I don’t know that loving as He did will always be easy, as I'm sure it was difficult for Him at times, too. But, we can draw on Him for strength to do this! He is FOR us and with us in all situations friends.

I would challenge you … if you feel change is needed in any areas mentioned in this episode, ask God to help you. I’ve been reading in the book of Exodus while in the midst of preparing this episode. I challenge you to check your heart. Over and over it says Pharaoh's “heart was hardened” or that his “heart was unyielding and he would not let the people go.” Don’t have an unyielding heart. Let your heart be soft for the Lord to mold and shape in His image. Sometimes the way we think it is, is NOT the way it is supposed to be. Over the last 4 or so years I’ve been unlearning a lot…removing any places where God shows me I have a religious, mean, or judgmental spirit about me. That’s not love and I’m called to love. Let God do the same for you. This episode is challenging me. I am an American. We believe in freedom, guns, our rights, and so much more. Did Jesus speak on any of these things? I will leave that as a question to ponder on friends. Let’s ponder that today. I want to look like Jesus, as I’m sure you do too.

Join me as I take a look at how Jesus responded to different people and situations.

The title of today’s show is “Why the Lord Hates Certain Things.” So, I guess we should start with … what does the Lord hate? He hates evil and wickedness. On the opposite end of that spectrum, He loves righteousness and goodness. We are to love what He loves and hates what He hates. That said, Jesus doesn't hate people. He LOVES people. All people. He does hate the evil and wicked behaviors of people because those actions affect others…others who He loves.

Do we love those people?

Do we realize we are those people sometimes? Ohh … ouch… that’s never fun to hear, but it’s a reality. None are perfect and sometimes, our actions affect others. I’ve had to apologize on more than one occasion when I’ve said something stupid and hurtful to someone. 😔 I believe as we walk closer with the Lord, we will see less and less of those behaviors in our lives. But there will always be room for growth … until we move on from this life.

Let’s look at one of the areas in the Bible where it speaks of the things the Lord hates. Proverbs 6:16-19 tells us that the Lord hates…

  • haughty eyes
  • a lying tongue
  • hands that shed innocent blood
  • a heart that devises wicked schemes
  • feet that are quick to rush into evil
  • a false witness who pours out lies
  • and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.”

Did you know these are things the Lord hates? Are they the things that you’re so adamantly against? Are they the “BIG” sins we speak so loudly about?

Hmmm… Or, are these possibly things that we do, so maybe we don’t speak about them … because we’re guilty of them? As I read through this list, I believe the latter might be the case more often than we would like to admit.

Join me as I discuss some actions we should steer clear of and why.

In the last episode, I shared about the importance of our foundation being on the Rock, about us having a sure foundation in Him. Today I am going to talk about Lot’s decision of where He decided to pitch his tent. Friends, not only is it important that our foundation is strong, but another important decision we make is where we decide to set up camp.

Join me as we take a glimpse into the life of Lot and how his decisions affected those around him.

What is our life built on?

We’re told to build our life on the Rock.

There, we find stability.

There, we will not be shaken.

Are we ensuring that we’re building our life on the Rock…or is it built on sinking sand? Matthew 7:24-27 tells us, “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

What we build our lives on matters. Join me in this episode to hear how we can have a solid foundation and why it's so important.

When I think about being sorry for something, I think about the need for change. Does change always happen? No, not always. Have there been times I apologized but didn’t bring about the change needed in the situation or relationship? Sadly, yes I have failed in this area. Probably more than I would like to admit.

Normally, an apology should reflect some kind of change. That said, what if we choose never to say I’m sorry or to attempt to change? Words like “defiant, unremorseful, callous, unbending, hardened, and unreformable” come to mind.

Let this not be us, friends. Let's grow! Change brings growth... if we allow it. I desire to grow more with each day that passes. I appreciate the friends who challenge me in this! Thank you!

I share some awesome quotes in today's show about change and growth. Also, in an article titled “Personal Growth: Four Obstacles to Positive Life Change” by Jim Taylor on the Psychology Today website, I review some obstacles to growth. Listen in and check it out!

How often have we said something that hurt someone else?

Do we even realize it when we say hurtful things?

Do we realize it but believe it’s ok because we’re just speaking the truth?

Words, they can hurt or they can build up. I know I’ve been on the receiving end of both … and sadly, I’ve also spoken life over someone as well as said hurtful things.

Man, the more I grow, the more the Lord is able to show me glimpses of myself…and let me tell you, I am not always the prettiest of people.

Today’s show is just going to be me sharing a bit of my heart. Some of the things I say sorry for are things I genuinely feel the need to give an apology for. Other things, well, I’m not necessarily sure I’ve been guilty of the thing, but I believe someone, somewhere, has been hurt by the words or actions and they should receive an “I’m sorry."

I pray that one of my apologies hit home with you. Maybe you needed to hear it. Maybe God is encouraging you to say sorry to someone. My heart for this show is that we slow down, check our hearts, see if there are any areas God would have us grow, which will ultimately help us walk better with others.

Perception Vs. Reality ... Two very different things. In the last episode, I touched on this topic and in this episode, we look at how we could have a false reality or perception of God if we're not careful.

As I thought more about this topic, I began to ponder this question: Have internet relationships and/or online behaviors harmed our relationship with God? I would say yes, and I am going to share some thoughts on today's show about why I believe this. Please join in and listen, then jump over to the Walking Life Together FB Group and share your favorite part of the episode. I would love to hear from you! Picture this, you’re sitting in your cozy chair at home and the sun is beaming in the window, bright, lighting up the whole room. Then, you walk outside. The bright sun makes one think of warmth…but that just isn’t the reality for Indiana in January. Lol. Cold, brisk air usually hits your face along with the sunshine, but the warmth one thought they might feel as they walked out the door just wasn’t there.

Perception and reality are different. Sometimes things aren’t as they seem. The sunshine caused me to perceive the day was warm but the reality was different…it wasn’t warm at all.

In this show, I look at some of the different perceptions people had about Jesus. I also challenge us to check how we perceive things in our lives. Is our perception reality or are we living in a false reality? Something to ponder on friends.

In this episode of Walking Life Together, I discuss the importance of walking life with others and the potential harm of isolation. We NEED others! People help us grow, whether by teaching us or even in ways of correcting us, and in order for this to occur we must build healthy relationships with others.

Relationships help us grow. No matter our age, we should always be learning and growing. And lack of growth doesn’t just affect us, but it also affects those around us, whether that be in our family, our church, or maybe people at our place of employeement. Let us NEVER think we know it all. Let us NEVER think we’re too old to grow, change, or become who we’re called to be. God’s not finished with us yet…if we allow Him to move in our lives.

Building healthy relations is key for beginnings. Let us start well … and if we didn’t start well, today’s a new day to start again!

Building relationships is not easy. Well, maybe I should say, building healthy relationships isn't easy. We have many relationships with people … maybe it’s just that some are good and others are a struggle.

As I prepared this episode, I thought “what does building relationships have to do with beginnings?,” but if our relationships don’t start well, if the foundation is rocky and cracked, then things will crumble quickly, so starting well is important. Some might ask, “Well, what if we didn’t start well?” That’s ok! We can do maintenance work and begin fixing and mending these relationships. In this episode we will dive into this topic. Join me during the month of January as I discuss "beginnings" ... some of my beginnings anyways LOL, ways we can begin things, and what happens in certain areas of our life when we decide not to start something or to take that first step. Also, the "Marley Moment" in this episode is SOMETHING! Talk about challenging me to live better! This young lady sure knows how to stretch me.

A few of the beginnings I discuss in this episode are:

  • When I began the motherhood journey
  • When I began the wife journey (yes, I said those in the right order, at least for my life. Let’s face it, I've not always done things in the right order. I am doing better though! Lol)
  • When I was born again
  • When I began walking through part of my healing process

I dive into these topics a little, sharing my heart, as wel as encoucouraging you to step out if there's a new beginning on your horizon. Do not fear! take the leap. You won't regret it friend.

Here are a few quotes about new beginnings I share in this show:

“No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.” Unknown Author

Patti LaBelle said, “Every exit is an entrance to someplace else.”

“Small beginnings are the launching pad to great endings.” Joyce Meyer

Rick Warren said, “God specializes in giving people a fresh start.”

“Our quitting point is God's beginning point.” Woodrow Kroll

“Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.” Martin Luther King Jr.

“If you don’t like the road you’re walking, start paving another one.” Dolly Parton

I do hope you'll come back for the other 2 episodes in January!

I would be honored if you would subscribe or follow this show and leave a review. Also, hop over to the Facebook Group "Walking Life Together" and say hello! I would love to meet you!

Possessions … those things we own.

How much do we really need…versus how much we want?

Having the nicest this or that is how we think we’re defined.

Success in America (and in many other places) is defined by material items, by our salary, by the size of our home, by the car we drive. We’re worried about our appearance. Do we have the nicest shoes…and 15 pairs of them.

I cannot say that I have this all right, that I have very little possessions and no shoes. LOL. That would be a lie. I honestly have WAY too much “stuff.” That’s probably why God is highlighting this topic to me.

  • to show me that I have too much stuff.

  • to remind me NOT to allow this stuff to become more important than Him … His ways … His wisdom … His call on my life.

  • to be willing to give my stuff away if someone else has a need.

  • to not allow my possessions to possess me.

Possessions - do not define success.

Possessions will possess you if you allow them too. Think about it…

  • got to get that newest phone

  • got to grab that newest pair of … fill in the blank with your favorite ... shoes…purse…etc.

  • my car is a few years old…need a new one

  • the neighbor bought a new, big truck. I have go buy bigger and newer.

This list could go on forever. Don’t do that to yourself. Don’t let your possession possess you. You might get that new, nice thing and feel great, maybe successful for a short time, but then what’s next?

Our value and worth are not defined by our possessions.

I love this quote I read from Tim Tebow recently in a book called "Disruptive Compassion" by Hal Donaldson, who is the CEO of Convoy of Hope. Hall quoted this from Tim, “When we talk about having a life of significance and meaning, it’s not about fame or money or resources. It’s about people and lives and hearts. That’s my biggest passion in life.” I LOVE what Hal says in regards to this quote. He says, “In other words, life is not about how much we possess, it’s about much we can give away.” YES! That’s so good!

To take this another direction, let’s look at the season. It’s Christmas. While I love gifts and even more so LOVE giving, I want to remember the season is not about what I get, the possessions I receive, but about Jesus. What He gives us IS much more valuable than ANYTHING we own or can own. He gives eternal gifts, gifts that don’t fade, that cannot get engulfed by flames or that will not perish when our mortal bodies do. Yes, He gives the best gifts - salvation, freedom, redemption, restoration, peace, love overflowing, and so much more. A material item can bring happiness for a time, but what Jesus gives is eternal and no matter what heaviness or pain the world throws at us, His gifts…His love…His peace…they won’t leave. They aren’t for a time. They are eternal. What a beautiful thought. We can receive from and have a relationship with Emmanuel, the Wonderful Counselor, the Prince of Peace. I’ll take this over any possession one can give me or that I can buy.

Thank you for joining me on this journey friends… for walking life with me! Be blessed friends because you are a blessing!

Who did you interact with today? Anyone new? Anyone who thinks differently than you? Or, was it your normal crew who acts, thinks, talks, and believes just like you?

Mercy, the Lord convicted me of these things as He had me prepare this episode. I LOVE those people in my close group BUT, I DESIRE to “go out and make disciples.” If I’m only hanging out with those who are already saved, am I on mission for the Great Commission? Now, I know we shouldn’t forsake the assembling together with our brothers and sisters but those aren't the only people I should be interacting with. Jesus hung with and taught His disciples, then He went out to seek and save the lost. Am I leaving that last part out? Are you? Do we make it our goal to introduce people to Jesus?

I think about the people Jesus went to. He went to people others wouldn’t go to. Those with leprosy … Those living lifestyles that many today gossip about…sadly. He went to and USED those we might consider “ineligible” for ministry. Oh mercy. Let’s be careful there friends.

Today, I want to take a look at how Jesus treated and interacted with others. In an article titled: "How Jesus Interacted With People" from the Bible.org website, we stand to learn from these examples of Christ:

  • "Jesus knew how to take initiative.

  • Jesus responded to the initiatives of others.

  • Jesus left room in his schedule for interruptions by friends and others enlisting his help.

  • Jesus usually met people on their own turf.

  • Jesus was interested in establishing common ground with others.

Witnessing is a science, an art, and a mystery. It involves connecting your faith with people’s experience in a way that they can understand it, in their own time and manner. It means cooperating with whatever God’s Spirit may be doing with them and leaving the results to Him."

Wow…such truth! If we are Spirit-led, led by the Spirit as we live out this life, God will open the doors for conversations and we just take part in them. That’s all. God will do the rest.

Jesus loved everyone. His method of showing it may have been a little different though in how He had to deal with people but I do think in all ways He was showing love, even in those times He was correcting. Correction IS love!

How do you think Jesus treated people? Think on that, then view your life to see if you love the way He did. If not, ask yourself what changes you need to make in order to look like love. I definitely have some areas I need to look at. I’m still growing over here, and I will be until I finish this race.

Join me to dig deeper into this topic. Let's learn to love others and treat them with love just as He did. Let's love others and walk life with them.

What is love? I mean, I LOVE coffee! If you know me, you know this is true! 😊 I LOVE to read! My book shelves are overflowing! I LOVE my family! Are all these things really “lovable” in the sense of love?

Some people will tell you they LOVE long walks on the beach. LOL. Ok, all joking aside. I do REALLY like coffee and books. I do REALLY LOVE my family. But, today I want to share about some of the ways I feel the Lord tells us to love others. What I will share isn’t about coffee, books, or long walks on the beach. What I will share might be more of a tough love, step on your toes a bit type of love. So…put on your steel toe boots and let’s chat. 😉

I'd love for you to join me in the Walking Life Together FB Group and join in the conversation!

Friends, some days are hard, but we have to keep going. Focus on the task at hand and keep moving forward. Maybe it’s a week at a time, a day at a time, or a moment at a time … and that’s ok! Just keep pushing. Don’t give up!

Remember Whose you are in those times when it gets hard! Knowing Whose you are is LIFE CHANGING! My pastor often says “belief impacts behavior.” SUCH TRUTH! When I BELIEVE what God says about me, that will IMPACT how I live…and giving up when God calls me to something or calls me to live a certain way just isn’t an option.

Focus on what Psalms 3 says:

  • The Lord is our shield.

  • We can call out to Him and He will answer.

  • There’s no need to fear because He is our deliverer.

  • He makes our way straight.

  • We can take refuge in Him and be glad.

  • He blesses us and surrounds us with His favor.

I would encourage you not to give up...

…even when people don’t cheer for you

…even when people come against you

…even when things don’t work as they're supposed to and you have to find a new way

….just keep going

Keep moving forward in the things you’re called to do no matter the opposition.

When you find yourself wanting to give up … Don’t. Keep Going.

When you realize the road is bumpier and more crooked than you expected … Don’t Stop. Don’t turn around. Keep Going.

When nothing seems to work like it should … don’t quit. Find a different way to get things done. Just keep going.

Only invite those in your circle who desire to dream with you and God. Walk life with those who are going in the same direction as you.

Don’t quit.

Just … Keep … Going

As I sat in prayer, I thought about all the labels that are placed on people. My heart is to help us think about this topic and either become free from labels we might wear or to help us walk with others and encourage freedom from the labels that they’ve worn for way too long.

If we’re going to wear labels or give labels to others, let them be labels that pour love over the person - like Precious, Valuable, Special, Chosen, Wonderful, Wanted, Beautiful, Smart, Loved. If we must label, let’s label in love.

How can we help people become free of the labels they’ve placed on themselves or maybe the labels others have placed on them?

First, let us become more aware of our words.

Second, building relationships with others allows us the opportunity to speak life to them, to lift them up and encourage them.

Let us be encouragers and not discouragers. A negative label can hold us back.

Let’s help others peel off the labels that don’t belong so they can learn to walk freely. This will help them become who they’re called to be!

Thank you for joining me today friends!

This week I was meditating on what it looks like to walk life together, and I realized it’s really about “doing life with others," being there to celebrate during the joyful seasons and crying together in the painful ones...assisting others when they need a helping hand. It’s just about being present.

Do I do this well? I am not sure. I try but I feel I could do better. Today, I’ll share a few thoughts that came to me as I contemplated what walking life together actually looks like. I hope we can learn and grow together in this journey.

The Lord desires that we walk with others, that we don’t walk alone. Walking alone and being isolated is the enemy’s playground. Don’t show up to play with him. Don’t give him a foothold. Join others on this journey. Lock arms with others who can help you, who can be the hands and feet of Jesus when life gets hard. Not only do YOU NEED IT, but someone else needs it too. They need you!

In this episode, you'll hear a childhood story about how a Jem Barbie Doll (yes, the cartoon from the 80's) played such an important role in me feeling loved as a kid! It's such a fond memory for me! Join in to hear it.

There are times in life when we just don’t feel strong, but I think it’s in those exact moments when others around us would say they see strength. Why wouldn’t they? We’re standing in the midst of the storm. They see the storm brewing, raging against us, and they see us standing strong. They see strength. That might not be what we always FEEL. We might not FEEL strong, but we’re often stronger than we think.

In today's show, I share some amazing quotes from friends who discussed their thoughts on strength. Such beautiful stories of overcomers. Their stories provided hope to me during my own time of struggle. Hearing the testimonies of others lifts our faith! I am beyond thankful to those who took time to share.

In this episode, we will look at some of the characteristics of Job and how we can be like him, how we can imitate him. Yes, we are to follow Christ but God gave us some wonderful examples to learn from…in the Bible as well as those we daily get to walk like with.

When I think of Job, I think of patience. He was SO VERY PATIENT with his friends! I think of kindness and perseverance, I think of a person who truly worshiped the Lord through it all. He was a friend willing to have hard conversations with his friends. He was faithful, oh how faithful he was.  And how can we forget God’s description of him?! God said, “there is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears the Lord and shuns evil.” WOW! Talk about a high compliment!

Join me on this episode to learn how we can be more like Job in all the ways he followed the Lord.

In order to “walk life together,” we need to be a good friend to others. As I recently journeyed through the book a Job, I realized that I probably wouldn’t choose to walk life with friends like he had. While friendships won’t always be easy, we should work to be a good friend.

During my reading, I noticed some characteristics that stood out as “not friend-like qualities,” and that’s what I want to talk about today.

In this episode I talk about “where do you take refuge?”

The world looks crazy sometimes. Actually, if you look around much at all, it looks crazy a lot of the time!

So for that reason, this is a GREAT question to think about…to ask yourself. Where do you take refuge? Where do you seek protection and shelter from danger, trouble, and hardship? Where is your hiding place? Where do you retreat to?

Friends, we choose where we take refuge. Just like we choose what we take in…meaning what we watch and/or listen to.  Let us choose wisely. Our choice greatly impacts our life.

Today I'll talk about wisdom.

That said, I want to throw this out there before I dive in …There’s a difference between Godly wisdom and worldly wisdom. A BIG difference! Godly wisdom comes from His word and it IS truth. Worldly wisdom might not be BAD, but it’s not the best wisdom. Let me expound on this. I used to always think, “I want my kids to learn from my mistakes,” which isn’t bad. BUT…I would MUCH RATHER teach them the truth of the Word than simply what I have to teach from the brokenness of my life. Not that God cannot use my mistakes to make a message, but I do not want to lean on MY understanding of MY life to teach my children. I want to lean on the Word … on His truth.

The fear of the Lord is wisdom. (Proverbs 9:10)

Wisdom brings peace. (Proverbs 3:17)

Sometimes wisdom is being still...or silent. (Proverbs 17:26)

As I thought and prayed about this podcast, I kind of had to chuckle. Me, speaking on wisdom. Looking back at my life and seeing ALL the mistakes I’ve made...who am I to speak on wisdom? But, I would like to believe through the mistakes, I have learned a few things. While in some instances, I’ve learned the hard way, at least I’m learning! That, I think, is wisdom. Through learning, we gain wisdom. By choosing to learn from our mistakes, we gain wisdom. If I thought I knew it all or had it all right, I would then be in trouble. One might call me an idiot. LOL. I know I would think so. I’d like to think I try to walk in wisdom, learning and growing as I go, recognizing and owning up to my mistakes and failures, accepting correction when needed, digging in to learn about something of which I may not understand. Do I have it all right? No. Actually, the more I learn, the more I realize I have a ways to go…so much more to learn. And that’s ok! I might even call it exciting!…because I love learning!

Thanks for joining me on this journey as we walk life together. Be blessed.

Would Jesus Stand With Us?

Here are a few of the items discussed:

  • Would Jesus stand with you in what you’re standing for or against?
  • Does the stand we’re taking look like love?
  • Is the heart of Jesus seen in the stand we take?
  • Will our words draw the lost close to the heart of the Father… OR … are we pushing people away?

As I thought on this topic, I thought about Jesus literally standing next to me. With the actions I take, would I take them if I could physically see Him standing beside me? Would I act, say or post the things I currently do if He was standing there with me?

I would like to be in a place where I KNOW that what I am standing for or against, that Jesus would be standing with me…and if not, that I would take a seat and be still…

Today I want to discuss God’s love for us. There are many ways His love is seen and felt. His love is beyond what we can understand. No matter what we do, God still loves us. NO. MATTER. WHAT.

It doesn’t matter the roads I’ve walked, God still loves me. And even as a child of God, I mess up. (Plenty...). God doesn’t stop loving me in these times. He doesn’t give up on me. His heart is ALWAYS FOR me. ALWAYS. God’s love for us is unending. God’s love for us is patient and enduring. I am thankful for the love of the Father...blessed to know this kind of love.

How will I be remembered when I’m no longer here? What will my legacy look like? Will my name carry on…will His name carry on through me? Many are remembered by their faith, or by their boldness … some are remembered in a negative light. (I am personally trying to ensure that IS NOT my story.)

Hebrews 11 gives an excellent example of living by faith! Let us be known by our faith as well. Let our names be listed in the Hall of Faith. Loving others ... that's another legacy I desire to leave. As I walk life with others, I pray it's a beautiful, kingdom impact that people experience.

In this episode, we talk about loving others…what that looks like…or maybe I should say … what loving others is supposed to look like. A recent reading about the Prodigal Son reminded me of what love actually looks like…but also what love doesn’t look like. I compare the Father’s response to his prodigal son’s return and the brother’s response of his long lost brother coming home. One shows love…the other does not.

Join me as we dig deeper into what love looks like. Join me and let's walk life together.

Living with a victim mindset or holding on to an offense doesn't allow us to grow, or at least not in healthy ways. How we think affects our lives. It's important that we choose not to live angry, that we choose to forgive, that we choose to live as an overcomer.

Join me as I talk about how God told me I needed to release some things instead of rehearsing them. Rehearsing wasn't allowing me to move forward. I was staying stuck...which is not a good place to be. Growth doesn't occur in the land of stuck.

Don’t take the bait. That’s what I’ve felt, or should I say, that’s what I’ve thought a lot lately as I watch people take a headline and run with it, sharing their thoughts and opinions on a topic that they may or may not have all the facts on.

Those presenting the information know that if they can grab you with the headline, they’ve got you. But what is a headline? It’s certainly not the full story. Is it truth? Or just a piece of the story, maybe a partial truth? Well, a partial truth isn’t truth at all. If someone has to use a partial truth to get my attention and try to convince me of something, I want nothing to do with their story.

As we navigate things, lets remember to think on these things - whatever is true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of a good report. These things will bring peace and we could certainly use more of that in our lives.

What’s on your plate? Is your plate full? While serving is important, serving in what God has created us for is the place we need to be. We can “do” A LOT of “good things,” but we’re not called to do ALL things. We each have gifts, areas that we’re called to serve in.

In this episode I share a little about different seasons I've walked through in ministry and how God clearly told me, "Heather, if your plate is too full doing "good things," you will tell Me no when I call you to serve."

Thank you for listening.

When God calls us out, our response has a ripple effect. Our "yes" and our "no" play a role in the lives of those around us ... possibly reaching people far beyond what we see. In this episode, I share how God spoke to me about my obedience in regards to the Embrace Grace ministry. I discuss how He lovingly told me, "your yes to this ministry wasn't just about you, Heather."

Where we go and what we do has a bigger impact than we realize. Is God calling you to something? I would love to hear about it! Join me on this show and connect with me afterwards via email (talkingwithheathergibson@gmail.com) or in the Facebook Group "Walking Life Together."

Sometimes in life we walk hard roads, but in those times, God goes before us. And not only does He go before us, but He's ever-present in times of trouble. God used Mark 2 to once again teach me about the importance of friendship.

In this show I share a few stories about how God used a hard season I walked through to prepare me to walk similar roads with others. While these times are difficult, I am thankful for the opportunities to be used by God to love others.

At times we magnify a person or situation without realizing it. We increase someone or something above Christ. When this occurs, it's time to check our focus. Focusing on the natural too much can knock us off course spiritually.

Adjusting our focus so our gaze is on Him will help us look more like Christ and less like the world. The world has enough chaos and darkness. Let us be light, bringing peace and hope to those around us.

This episode is about the importance of commitment and what that looks like when we are part of a church body. Our church families love us and desire that we jump in and walk life with them. Your gifts and talents are needed! Your hugs are needed! YOU are NEEDED! Everyone needs a YOU!

On today's episode we look at the story from Mark 2 about the 4 friends who brought their friend through the roof to meet Jesus. Meeting Jesus is life changing! Let us be this kind of friend ... the friend who tears off a roof to bring people to the Savior.

On this episode, I discuss the decision to start this podcast. I share a few stories about when God spoke to me through different people, as well as through the book "The Last Arrow" by Erwin Raphael McManus. After a few nudges (isn't that God's way...gently nudging us until we go), I realized it was time to step out. It is my moment to be brave, be bold, and move into this call for my life.

You are also encouraged to step out. He will make a way when He calls you!

Thank you for joining me on the 1st episode of Walk Life Together. In this episode, you will hear my heart for the show. I pray we are challenged to look more like Jesus as we grow, learning to focus more on Him and less on the rest.

Hey friends! Do you sometimes struggle with your focus? Struggle with living (and loving) like Jesus in a world that doesn’t always look or feel a whole lot like Him? Are you allowing the culture around you to guide your life instead of being guided by His truth and the ultimate command…to love like Him?

Do you want to be encouraged and strengthen your walk with Christ? Do you want to grow with others, as well challenge your own way of thinking? If so, you will find great value in this show. I’m your host Heather Gibson and you’re listening to Walking Life Together. Let’s take this journey together…let’s Walk Life Together. What an honor it is that you would join me!
