“When we’re born, our skin has the ability to self-rejuvenate, but over time, that ability diminishes,” and that’s why Michal Morrison is looking to stem cell science and its revolutionary applications in beauty.
Morrison likens aging to a dimmer on a light switch: as it starts to go down, and the activity within your cells goes down, that’s when aging occurs. So she’s tapped into a new “meta molecule,” βSTEM6, which is the result of over two decades of research in regenerative medicine and recent advances in stem cell science. βSTEM6 marks a new category of biomimetic skincare technology and stimulates your biology’s inherent ability to support cell longevity and rejuvenate skin.

About Dr. Trevor Cates:
Dr. Trevor Cates is a licensed Naturopathic Practitioner specializing in hormone balance and a holistic approach to skincare. She received her medical degree from the National College of Natural Medicine and is the first female licensed as a naturopathic doctor in California state history. After years of struggling with skin imperfections and imbalanced hormones in her teen years, Dr. Cates decided to pursue a career in natural medicine to educate the masses on the intersection between hormones and healthy skin. This led her to Utah where she worked in the Spas of renowned hotels like Waldorf Astoria and St. Regis, which is where she discovered the necessity to create a cleaner and simpler skincare line and write her book, Clean Skin from Within, which went on to become a USA Today national best-seller. Since then, Dr. Cates has helped patients, around the world improve their skin and hormones through a more natural approach.
It’s a sad fact: diet and exercise cannot do anything to tighten loose skin on your stomach.
Traditionally the only option to remove loose skin was to go under the knife, but new technologies for skin resurfacing and deep dermal remodeling can help restore some of the laxity caused by pregnancy, weight loss, or general aging.
Secret™ PRO takes on a non-conventional approach to skin revitalization by uniquely combining two clinically proven technologies in a single device. Utilizing fractional CO2 for skin resurfacing and radio frequency microneedling for deep dermal remodeling effectively treats the full thickness of the skin from the epidermis to the deeper dermal layers independently or together.
We took the treatment for a test drive at The Kaga Institute and our guest Dr. Kaga is here with everything you need to know about this treatment!

Listen up – because the ease of removing it can depend on the type of ink you use, the color, or even the style (and you may want to rethink your decision if you're considering a tribal tattoo).
According to Dr. Josh Weitz, a tattoo removal specialist, "The only bad candidate is the person who comes in with unrealistic expectations."

Meet Valdé: One of the Most Luxurious (and Expensive) Lipsticks Ever!
According to founder, Margarita Arriagada, “These refillable lipstick ‘armors’ are an extension of the woman who carries it, an external manifestation of her inner strength and beauty.” Arriagada, who spent more than a decade as the chief merchant at Sephora, created Valdé to honor her mother. “She had no hang-ups. She saw herself as beautiful.” Part of
Arriagada’s mother’s confidence stemmed from lipstick. She wore it every day until her last.

Toxic Cotton? Why It’s time to Swap Your Makeup Removers
In honor of Earth Day, we decided to celebrate a brand that is doing its part to reduce waste, and also helping us avoid using unnecessary toxins in our skincare. According to Take My Face Off, ”Cotton is the most pesticide-doused crop on the planet. And the pesticides used on cotton are some of the most toxic and long-lasting ones used in agriculture. People think that cotton is a "safe" choice because it's natural, but cotton production is kind of scary. Many cheap cotton balls, rounds, and pads have harmful pesticide residues on them, and they’re the kind of toxins that can get into your body through your skin. While you can wash your T-shirts and jeans before use, there’s nothing you can do about toxic cotton balls.” We speak to the brand founder about:

Abut the brand:
Amanda McIntosh is the Founder and CEO of Take My Face Off, a Los Angeles-based brand that creates reusable, super soft makeup removing Makeup Mittys and Mitty Minis that are much better for the environment than single-use products like makeup wipes and cotton balls. She became interested in beauty after searching for soft washcloths for her own skincare routine. As she spent more time researching the beauty industry, McIntosh was dismayed to learn of the environmental costs of facial wipes and cheap cotton balls. Her idea of upgrading washcloths turned into something bigger. TMFO is on the forefront of combating the beauty waste issue with gentle and effective beauty tools. Plus, they take off every trace of makeup, are way cuter than a gross old washcloth, and can even be used on eyelash extensions! Their newest launch is the Mitty Ex, the first-of-its-kind dual-sided reusable makeup remover that both cleanses and exfoliates the skin. In addition, there’s the Mitty Max, the largest Mitty yet that's meant for both face AND body. TMFO also collaborated with world-famous lip artist, Vlada, to create Vlada's Mitty Pout, a reusable lip cleansing tool that removes even the most stubborn lip color with ease.

Chronological age, environmental factors, and a busy lifestyle contribute to the loss of energy in your skin, causing signs of aging to begin to emerge. But according to the experts at Natura Bissé, we can promote the stimulation of cellular energy and skin regeneration, to help our skin both protect itself during the day, and repair itself at night.
We talk to Cynthia Aguilar, International Esthetician for Natura Bissé, about:

Getting healthier is hard. Here are three tips for making adopting healthy habits easier from certified personal trainer and health coach, Tatiana Boncompagni.
Most importantly stay inspired. Surround yourself with others who have accomplished what you want to; their success tells you it is possible and that "if they can do it, so can you!"
Did you know that switching to a Mediterranean Diet -- ranked #1 diet by US News and World Report for 5 years running -- can boost your lifespan up to 13 years, according to a recent report published by PLoS Medicine, a peer-reviewed medical journal.
The study showed that men could increase their longevity by 13 years and women by 10 years if they switched to a diet that is high in vegetables, legumes and fish and poultry and low in processed and high-sugar foods. The best part? Researchers found that diet improvements even in mid-life or later have a positive impact on longevity.
In other words, it's never too late to switch up your habits.

Oxygenetix foundation is THE ONLY foundation I’ve used for over a decade – it breathes, protects, and heals your skin as you wear it. And so it’s no surprise that it’s taken Hollywood by storm – Cillian Murphy will be wearing it the cover of the next Rolling Stone. Hear about the science behind this patented formula from Sophia Knapp, Manager of Product Development for Oxygenetix. In this episode:
Having great skin is about more than just great skin care products. If your diet isn’t right, if you’re not moving your body enough, even if your mental health is not in great shape, then that’s all likely going to show up on your skin. But sexual wellness might be a free (and fun) contributor to getting your glow on – so why aren’t more skincare brands pushing this agenda?
Studies have shown that sexual encounters (with a partner or on our own) have long-term skin benefits beyond causing that immediate glow. Self-pleasure can lead to a release of oxytocin, which lowers cortisol levels, leads to better sleep, and helps the skin repair itself.
We speak to Erika Schwass, Science and Wellness Manager for clean-beauty brand Consonant Wellness, about:
Can bananas make your skin glow? Science says “yes,” and this chic French brand is transforming the entire banana tree into skincare super-ingredients!
According to KADALYS founder, Shirley Billot, banana bio-actives are sustainable and organic natural antioxidants that are clinically proven to help skin look more youthful. Known in traditional Caribbean medicine for their antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, bananas offer amazing benefits for luminous skin. We talk to the “banana hacker” about:

Traditional teeth whitening isn’t a great experience. It’s painful, causes sensitivity, takes time and can even be harmful to your teeth. But Hismile cofounders Nik Mirkovic & Alex Tomic knew there had to be a better way. After speaking with dental experts and researching traditional methods of whitening, they discovered that the main culprit behind whitening complaints was peroxide.
So they set out to create an at-home tooth-whitening treatment that would be just as effective as peroxide – without the nasty side effects. We sit down with the two Aussie entrepreneurs to talk about their revolutionary teeth whitening system and the over 3 million global fans they’ve gained along the way. Well also hear about their latest innovations, and what’s next for these two industry disruptors.
Beauty gummies have been popping up for everything from vitamin C to Melatonin, but Imaraïs Beauty is taking the supplement world by storm and has introduced the first vegan-friendly plant-based and sugar-free skincare gummies to market. These supplements utilize plant-based micronutrients with an advanced delivery system to brighten, firm and restore skin balance at the cellular level.
Our guest and co-founder, Felicia Hershenhorn, saw the need for a vegan-friendly supplement after her own lifestyle shift – losing 80 pounds and clearing her acne by going plant-based – led her to the difficult decision to move on from law to pursue her passion in skincare.
When IMARAÏS Beauty was ready to launch, she knew they needed a strong ambassador to help spread the message, and so she met turned to social media star Sommer Ray.
We talk to the lawyer-turned-beauty-entrepreneur about why she decided to get into the beauty supplement game, what it’s like to partner with an influencer, and how these supplements bridge the gap between functional wellness and beauty.
"Hair is a fabric. Once the hair is damaged, there is no quick fix.” That’s according to Bridgette Hill, a certified trichologist, stylist, and inventive colorist.
Affectionately known as "The Scalp Therapist," she offered from her philosophy that the scalp is the root connection between internal health and external beauty led her to create the world’s first digital platform for virtual scalp consultations, the Root Cause Scalp Analysis. Through in-depth consultations, this platform allows users to understand their own underlying factors – from genetics, illness, diet and nutrition, stress, and hormonal fluctuations to medications like antibiotics, anti-clotting drugs, cholesterol-lowering drugs, antidepressants, mood stabilizers, and hormone replacement therapies – all of which can contribute to hair loss and scalp abnormalities including
receding hairlines and scabs on the scalp.

Have you ever wished you could directly be involved with the creation of a skincare line? That’s what influencer-turned-skincare-founder Teni Panosian has done with her luxury line, Monday Born.
The content creator and beauty maven started a Youtube channel in 2012, and now has over half a million followers on Instagram where she covers a broad range of topics from beauty to fashion to lifestyle. While she knew she would eventually start a skincare line, she wanted something that would directly impact her audience, and that was dependent on their feedback. And so, with the help of beauty incubator Beaubble, Monday Born was launched.
Beaubble collaborates with Teni to launch online campaigns, crowdsource feedback from her community, then open a direct-to-consumer pre-order drop to purchase the product. Through Beaubble’s unique campaign process, Teni can ask consumers which products they wish to buy before a product even goes to market. Monday Born products are then developed in about 4 to 7 weeks through the “MB Experience,” where Teni’s own community provides feedback on lab samples and packaging to refine the final product before the drop opens for pre-order. This business model, in which only a limited quantity of products are available to be claimed, eliminates waste and ensures that consumers are receiving the freshest possible product.
We talk to Teni about how her love of art led to a career in beauty, what it was like to launch a line during the height of the pandemic, and why she feels that "skinimalism" is the next big thing. She also gives us a preview of her next launches!

The United States sets the tone for some of fashion’s greatest achievements – but lingerie sizing is not one of them.
Many people simply don’t know how to properly fit themselves, and on top of that, many of the larger US companies limit sizing options.
But Cosabella is a lingerie company that’s all about confidence. They’ve been innovating in the intimates space for over 40 years – they were the first to introduce lingerie in a range of both colors and sizes – and now, they’re exploring lingerie for men.
We talk to Co-CEO, Silvia Campello, about the ways that her 40-year-old family business (started by her mother) is revamping the lingerie game – from inclusive sizes to luxury lace that is actually comfortable, and their latest launch, swim. But we got super excited when she told us their next launch is going to be a line for men. Finally, and thank you!

That afternoon sugary snack is doing harm to more than your waistline – it’s also aging you.
According to Jennifer Hanway, a board-certified holistic nutritionist and wellness expert, “It may sound like a simple premise, but we literally are what we eat.” And sugar is enemy number one. But there are some surprising things we can eat and feel good about (hello dark chocolate!) and her nutritional expertise has gained her a celebrity clientele that includes Megan Thee Stallion, members of The Royal Family and the cast of Game of Thrones.
She shares the exact foods we should include for glowing, youthful skin, what we should avoid to prevent accelerated aging of the skin, and the best supplements for a clear complexion and long, strong healthy hair and nails.
Burn fat, build muscle without the gym? Sounds too good to be true, but that’s why doctors – and their patients – are buzzing about the latest evolution of non-invasive body contouring devices, the EMSCULPT NEO. However, one dermatologist says there are some added benefits as well.
Built off the legacy of its predecessor, EMSCULPT (which tones muscle only) the EMSCULPT NEO targets the trifecta of body contouring: skin, muscle and fat - and has the celebrity following to prove it.
According to parent company BTL, it can deliver the results of doing 20,000 crunches in 30 minutes, using a combination of high-intensity focused electromagnetic energy (HIFEM) to contract and tone the muscles and radio frequency (RF) to melt fat.
We talk to Dr. Kathleen Behr, a board-certified dermatologic surgeon who says this is a popular device in her Fresno practice, not only for body sculpting, but for treating back pain as well. We talk to her about the areas that she’s seeing the best results in, and how she’s combining these therapies to deliver the best results.
When Carolyn Aronson set out to simplify our haircare routines, she traded her scissors for bottles – and built an empire. Her best-selling Miracle Leave-In Spray sells over 14 million bottles a year, and the Be a 10 haircare line has grown to address curly hair, limp hair, and of course, this Florida native has a line for frizz-free hair that includes a spray that will literally waterproof your hair.
So what do you do when you’ve conquered the world of hair? If you’re Aronson you launch a beauty line. “Be a 10 It’s a multi-functional easy to use makeup line that has built-in applicators so you don’t need YouTube tutorials or a million brushes to create those instant be a ten looks.” For Aronson, it’s about discovering confidence in ourselves, head to toe. She’s also proud of her Puerto Rican heritage and she has made sure that the line is all-inclusive and offers shades in every color, for everyone.
We talk to her about her favorites from the new line, new technology trends in beauty, and her secrets to getting the glow (hint hint - it’s all about the nose!)
Beauty products are becoming increasingly more scientific in the way they address aging, and an elite squad of luxury brands has tapped into the power of growth factors for skin rejuvenation.
RéVive’s founder, Dr. Gregory Bays Brown, was the pioneer of this technology, which merges science and luxury with a solution that promotes collagen and elastin growth at the cellular level. While working with burn victims, Dr. Brown had the groundbreaking idea to apply Nobel Prize-winning epidermal growth factors (EGF) to help damaged skin heal more quickly—and it worked. He later incorporated a bio-identical version of EGF and IGF into skincare and found that it dramatically reduced signs of aging and increased skin renewal.
We talk to RéVive’s CEO, Elana Drell-Szyfer, about the benefits of using growth factors in skincare, why growth factors have sparked controversy, and the best products to help you “get the glow.”
“The one area I almost never do in myself and in my patients is the forehead.” That’s according to Dr. Doris Day, a New York City board-certified dermatologist specializing in cosmetic and surgical dermatology.
Did you just do a double-take because I know I did?!?
But according to this esteemed NewBeauty Top Doctor, the forehead muscle is the strongest and best lifting muscle in the brow and Dr. Day says, “the more you relax this muscle over time, the more the brow and the forehead will drop., and the older you are going to look and the faster you are going to age.”
There’s one thing that doctors, beauty editors, and industry experts agree on: Vitamin C is a must in your skincare routine. The potent antioxidant visibly reduces fine lines and wrinkles, brightens skin tone, and smooths texture, all while fighting free radicals. And when BeautyStat entered the market with a ground breaking Vitamin C product, the awards started pouring in.
Why? Vitamin C is notoriously unstable and once it turns brown, sorry to say, it’s not working the way we want it to. But Ron Robinson knew there must be a better way to deliver this essential skincare ingredient.
After spending over 15 years in the beauty biz as a cosmetic chemist developing products for brands like Clinique, Estee Lauder, Revlon, Avon and L’Oreal, he discovered a way to encapsulate and stabilize a 20% Vitamin C, and BeautyStat was born. Since then #BeautyStat has garnered over 5 million posts and won humerus awards from publications like NewBeauty and Orpah, and is being carried by high-end retailers including Saks, Neiman Marcus and Blue Mercury.
We sit down with Ron to discuss the power of Vitamin C and why we need it in our routines, and he also shares some inside tips on the newest ingredients you’ll want to know about (Squalane!)
“It may sound like science fiction but it’s a fact: We’re going to die but we don’t need to age.”
That’s according to Jan Marini, a recognized leader and innovator in the field of Skin Care Research. She’s spent her career doing extensive product research and speaks with the world’s most renowned scientists in the field of anti-aging. And while the prevailing view of aging is that it’s the norm, she says “aging is an inflammatory disease, we’re kind of all rusting to death,” but that we don’t have to.
We talk to her about the science behind aging and new medications being tested that could possibly reverse aging altogether. She also shares her theory on why intermittent fasting is key to slowing the gaining process.
She also gives us a peek into her product closet (that rivals the famous one at Vogue), and why she thinks there is absolutely no replacement for retinol. We’ll also dig into her Skin Care Management Line which is the most-award winning in NewBeauty Magazine’s history and is used by Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and Cher.
Alicia Grande is a self-made millionaire who built a cosmetics empire from the ground up with $25,000. How? By sticking to what she knew best: beauty products that get results. In 2008, she launched Grande Lash MD, a lash-enhancing conditioner, and it was so successful that it inspired her to create an entire line. Since then, Grande Cosmetics has been paving the way for results-driven serums and double-duty skincare-infused cosmetics.
We sit down with Alicia to talk about how she took a chance on herself and changed the world for women everywhere. From her humble beginnings in her kitchen to sealing a deal with Sephora, she shares her secrets to success, as well as the mistakes she made along the way.
What do you get when you mix the crisp, clean fragrance of a Mediterranean vacation with the French flair of Diptyque? A summer escape in a bottle.
Diptyque has created a limited seasonal collection of perfumes and candles that will whisk you away to the Mediterranean, and some of the most iconic destinations in the world - from Santorini to Ibiza, and beyond. With scents like Barbary fig, notes of bergamot, iris and jasmine, or an elevated Citronella, these new launches are sure to take your mind off of any worries for a while.
We speak to the Director of Marketing, Eduardo Valadez, about the history of this luxury fragrance house, his favorites from the line, how they created these scents and why you should be stocking up on them this summer.
When it comes to clean beauty, the waters are pretty murky.
Let’s start with the facts: there is no regulation, standardization or clear definition for what "clean beauty" actually means. Words like "green," "natural," "organic," and even “non-toxic" can be used at the discretion of a company. And while the clean beauty movement is gaining traction, and brands are becoming more transparent about their ingredients, how can we tell the difference between marketing buzz and science? And are there some ingredients on the no-no list that make for a better product?
We sit down with Hallie Gould, Associate Editorial Director of Byrdie Magazine to get the scoop on all things clean beauty: what it is, how to identify it, and why you should consider using these products. She and Byrdie just launched their fifth annual Eco Beauty Award Winners honoring the best clean beauty brands that employ and emphasize non-toxic ingredients, innovation, and sustainability.
We’ll discuss some of her favorite award-winning products as well as her tips for finding the best clean skincare on a budget!
Courtney Brooks is a laser specialist, self-proclaimed chemical-peel queen, and Dr. Dennis Gross’ right-hand woman. As Director of Aesthetics for his tony 5th avenue practice, her ability to customize in-office procedures and at-home skincare has made this goddess of glow a highly sought-after aesthetician among New York City’s most skin obsessed. We talk to Courtney about the best lasers and peels to get a flawless complexion - from treating discoloration to broken capillaries. She breaks down everything you need to know about IPL and V-beam, including when not to get them. She also shares some of her favorite at-home treatments to get glowing from head to toe.
Summer is in full swing, and by now you’ve probably swapped your heavy winter coats and boots – but what about your products? Skincare products containing retinol are a favorite of ours during the colder months, but we tend to shelf them in the summer. Retinol boosts cell turnover, eliminating dull skin cells and making way for healthy new ones. But left unprotected, these new skin cells can easily burn. According to Marda Levy of DefenAge, there might be a safer alternative that delivers the same benefits – skin rejuvenation, boosting brightness, epidermal thickness and cell turnover– without any of the side effects or sensitivity.
Defensins are small messenger molecules that are released in our body when we have a wound and are responsible for starting the cascade of healing with new fresh skin. When used in skincare, they activate dormant stem cells to encourage a new epidermis to grow, leaving behind a “fresh” top layer of skin, improving fine lines, wrinkles, texture, sagging, pigment, and pore size.
We talk to Marda about the clinical results from using defensins with DefenAge, including improved small and large wrinkles, reduced pore size, and lightening discoloration.
There’s a new teeth-straightening system that claims to fix most problems in less time, with less pain, and best of all - it’s completely hidden behind your teeth.
According to CEO and co-founder, John Pham, DDS, MS, InBrace is transforming not only how teeth are adjusted, but the entire patient experience. “What we’re trying to do at InBrace is something where you don’t have to look worse before you look better,” says Pham. With his behind-the-teeth system, patients can enjoy the benefits of straighter teeth starting on day one – unlike traditional braces, they don’t have to wait upwards of 1-2 years to have unsightly brackets removed.
After spending years looking at the available treatment options, the former aerospace engineer and current practicing orthodontist realized that the orthodontic industry needed a disruption. “You can’t just put a battery into a car and car it a Tesla, it has to be redesigned from the ground up,” and so his team created a system that utilizes a personalized Smartwire™ hidden behind your teeth to gently perfects your smile. We talk to Dr. Pham about this revolutionary new system and how it gently moves the teeth over time thanks to its friction-free patented Gentleforce technology.
Sonya Dakar call’s herself the Skin Jedi, but we think she’s has a direct spring to the fountain of youth. Jennifer Lopez, Priyanka Chopra, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sofia Vergara, Jennifer Lawrence, and Madonna have all flocked to her to keep their faces fresh and glowing.
With over 30 years in business, Dakar has built a skincare empire and was one of the pioneers of using skin oils. By her side is her daughter and VP of the company, Mimi Dakar Berry. These women have collaborated on the family business for over twenty years. We sat down with the two powerhouses to discuss natural ways to exfoliate, treat discoloration, and their suggestions to deal with textured skin. She also shares the best beauty advice any mother could give to a daughter.
Are you looking for an at-home remedy to sleepless nights, loss of libido and even weight gain? These teeny beads might be the cure you're looking for.
Derived from Traditional Chinese Medicine, ear seeds are adhesive beads placed on specific acupressure points on the ear to address symptoms and areas of the physical and emotional body. Unlike acupuncture, no needles are involved and there is no piercing of the skin.
Ear seeds are a safe, non-invasive, healing modality that can easily be included in your self-care routine, and our guest Nikki Ostrower – an integrative nutritionist, wellness lifestyle expert, and the founder of NAO Wellness in New York City – has a beautiful at-home kit to make the process easy. We speak to her about the science behind these beautiful healing seeds and discuss how to place them correctly.
If your skin is starting to droop - be it on the face, neck, or even body – you may be a candidate for PDO thread lifts. A PDO thread lift can subtly lift the skin to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and give the appearance of a more tightened and firm area.
We speak to Dr. Rahi, a board-certified internal medicine practitioner, and anti-aging expert, who uses MINT PDO threads in her practice and is a trainer for the brand. MINT PDO threads are made of suture material which is the same material that is used during surgery wound closure. Dr. Rahi likes these because they are,” completely absorbed by the body through hydrolysis, and cause minimal tissue reaction and tissue trauma.” She says that “MINT is also backed by more than 6 years of clinical studies for its efficacy and safety and is the first and only PDO suture in the US market to have received two FDA clearances.” Each thread has tiny barbs that are strategically placed and molded all around the thread. Once the threads are placed into the skin, the barbs anchor onto sagging skin, and the thread can be maneuvered to achieve a naturally youthful and defined look.
The minimally invasive procedure is growing in popularity because it does not require general anesthesia or large incisions for patients. Not only can it improve the appearance of sagging skin, but PDO can also help promote the stimulation of collagen and neovascularization, which helps to improve skin elasticity, texture, fine lines, and volume for a timeless rejuvenation. They are called the lunchtime facelift or non-surgical facelift and they can also be used anywhere on the body. Dr. Rahi even uses them for nonsurgical nose jobs, brow lifts, and breast lifts.
Jennifer Lopez, Khloe Kardasian and just about every A-List celebrity who’s ever done highlights, ombré or balayage trust their hair to one woman: Tracey Cunningham.
This celebrity colorist, Redken Ambassador and Olaplex Enthusiast can now also add author to her list of accomplishments. We talk to the color guru about what it’s like to work on the most famous manes in the business, and take an in-depth look at the Olaplex line of products which she says is a must for everyone whether you color or not.
We also discuss her new book, True Colors, and she reveals how Bette Middler helped to launch her career.

Ryan is back with advice on the best ways to fight frizz this summer!
Pick your brand! Do your research, grab a coffee and deep-dive your Instagram or Google search. Anti-frizz, silk protein, keratin complex or Brazilian blowout all use different technology to smooth. Talk to your trusted stylist about what is best for you.
If you want it to be safe or play in the shallow part of the pool, go Organic. Be Uber careful when going chemical-free. Blondes, highlights, and light brunettes can turn more brassy. Be prepared for your results to not last as long.
If you want to jump into the chemical pool, be consistent with the same stylist and same brand. Keratin Complex or Brazilian Blowout are my favs. If you become addicted and want a treatment more than 2x a year, My recommendation is to alternate an express version of the treatment. Usually a fraction of the price, time in the chair, and only lasting 4/6 weeks. These keep the frizzy hairs away but won’t over-process and break your hair.
If you color your hair always remember to add the service after color. Think of it as the ultimate topcoat. To maximize every color with SHINE, it should be your last step. If you highlight or go lighter soon after a treatment, your investment is going down the drain.
Ryan always recommends a budget-friendly option to my clients. Most people refresh color in early spring and the beginning of fall. After color, rebook for your anti-frizz treatment the first week of the following month. This will give your hair a rest in between chemical services. The added financial bonus – budget your beauty over a two-month billing cycle.
If cellulite has you bumming about your backside, you can head back to the beach – dimple-free! The FDA has finally approved an injectable treatment to reduce cellulite, and one NYC top doctor says he's found the Holy Grail.
Cellulite occurs when the skin is pulled downward by connective tissue bands, and creates the dimpling effect of what we call "cellulite." Traditionally, cellulite has been extremely difficult to treat, and the options that work involve significant downtime and/or surgical intervention.
QWO is an injectable enzyme given in a series of treatments to help reduce the appearance of cellulite and dimpling on the backs of legs and the butt (note: as of this podcast it's only FDA approved in the butt). The enzyme targets the collagen in the fibrous bands of the buttocks and dissolves the fibers.
Our guest, Dr. Bruce Katz, is a board-certified dermatologist and Director of the JUVA Skin & Laser Center in Manhattan and says the promising results from QWO have had women flocking to his practice. We talk to Dr. Katz about this promising treatment.

We talk to Nurse Nancy about her namesake blend "The Nurse Nancy Complex," discover the reasons behind the Insta-famous Party Peel (the gold color is important for reasons beyond a photo-op), and marvel at the secret behind the gorgeous skin of these women in their 50's.
Grace Eleyae, a line of stylish silk and satin-lined products, was founded on the belief that you should never have to choose between hair care and style.
In 2014, founder Grace Eleyae took a trip to Kenya that changed her life. During a bumpy 8-hour car ride, all the hair on the back of her head broke off – the result of her chemically straightened hair and constant friction against the headrest.
Later that year, as a solution to her completely damaged, broken and dry chemically straightened hair, she developed the first prototype of the Slap, a satin-lined cap to help keep hair moisturized, protected and tangle-free. After seeing immediate changes in her hair, she passed it to friends and family. It was a hit. Soon after, Grace Eleyae began selling her products on Etsy and by September 2014, decided to fully launch Grace Eleyae, Inc.
One month after the launch, a YouTuber named the cap as a “must-have” in her nighttime routine. This led to more and more beauty bloggers giving the Slap rave reviews, which then brought the Slap into the mainstream world.
We sit down with Grace to talk about why we need to protect our hair, and how these silk and satin-lined wraps and caps do so. She also shares the incredible story of how she launched a business that has become one of Oprah’s Favorite Things.

Meet the “her” behind Hims. Hilary Coles is the co-founder of Hims and Hers, two telemedicine platforms that are changing the way we do healthcare and wellness.
And she’s doing it so well that even J. Lo is putting her famous mane behind it.
We speak to Hilary about why consumers are increasingly interested in telehealth solutions in place of traditional, in-person medical services, and how Hims, Inc. is expanding. She also tells us her forecast for the future of telehealth and what it’s like to work with (and be in the same room with) Jennifer Lopez and A-Rod.
About Hims and Hers:
If you’re ever taken the NYC, you probably know about Hims. When the digital health platform launched in 2017, it entertained morning commuters with clever ads about being able to discreetly deliver medications for everything from hairless to erectile dysfunction.
Exactly one year later, after immense success with Hims, co-founders Hilary Coles and Andrew Dudlum launched Hers – a curated platform giving women access to the brand’s network of doctors who can provide guidance and medical-grade treatment for various conditions and daily needs including birth control, acne, hair loss, melasma, and emergency contraception. In January 2019, Hims, Inc. became the second-fastest startup to become a so-called “unicorn” second only to Bird.
The company currently connects patients across the U.S. to licensed medical professionals, enabling them to get access to high-quality care. They also discreetly ship OTC and Rx products to customers in all 50 states – and pride themselves on making access to medical care easier by embracing telehealth.
Our sense of smell is closely linked to our memory, perhaps more so than any of our other senses. When an odor enters our nasal cavity, it goes straight to the olfactory bulb, which is directly connected to the amygdala and hippocampus. Two regions of the brain related to emotion and memory. This might explain why the smell of something can so immediately trigger a detailed memory or even intense emotion. In fact, “scent branding” is now a part of many hotels who pump a signature fragrance into the air.
So when it comes to branding yourself, a signature scent can be very important. But how can we elect the smell that defines us? We talk to luxury perfumer Ashlee Dozier of Anuket Luxury Apothecary, about how we can figure out what our scent taste is, and how we can find a perfume that smells good on us. Ashlee explains the four main categories of scent: Woody, Floral, Fresh, Oriental and talks about how our body chemistry can affect the way a scent smells. We also discuss unisex fragrances

Monolaurin is a chemical derived from lauric acid, which is a component of both coconut fat and breast milk. It’s been used in cosmetics and as a food additive, but recently it’s making waves as a homeopathic remedy for preventing and treating colds, flu, herpes, shingles and urinary tract infections.
If you’ve been listening to our podcast you first heard about monolaurin when we interviewed Teju Owoye, who told us that she uses monolaurin to treat infections. We were certainly intrigued and decided to dig a little deeper into this supplement. In this episode we talk to Damon Sununtnasuk, the founder of Natural Cure Labs, about what monoluarin is, how it came to be discovered, and why you may want to consider adding this supplement to your overall wellness plan. As this is not yet regulated by the FDA, Damon provided some helpful links for you to do your own research.

Anna De La Cruz is the go-to resource for all things skincare. She’s a master esthetician and Glo Skin Beauty’s Director of Product Development. We talk to this brilliant beauty about the skincare trends she predicts for 2021, which include
Your Skin But Better - Companies will create skincare-makeup hybrids that create a “no-makeup makeup” effect: natural, glossy, dewy skin textures, with light or barely-there textures, tints, and tones.
Bright Skin Is In - Skin lightening is a long outdated and damaging trend. For 2021, we are so ready to put that behind us - with the focus firmly on brightening, not lightening. Powered by plant-based ingredients such as alpha arbutin, vegan lactic acid, azelaic acid, and licorice root extract, for a supercharged, skin-positive approach to targeting dark spots, hyperpigmentation, and uneven skin tones. We briefly talk about the CARES Act that restricted OTC Hydroquinone that happened this year.
Texture Play - This can certainly be an influence and evolution of the glass skin look; consumers want radiant, hydrated, dewy skin coupled with (and this is where the evolution comes in) a slightly different experience with their products that is more enjoyable and fun. While creams and liquids may be familiar, water-gel, jelly, whipped and melting balms are textures that present a new feel to consumers; bouncy and lightweight, they offer the playful tactileness that is being sought after, while their very nature lends itself to delivering incredible hydration, resulting in a dewy, supple look to the skin- which is another win.
The End Of More - Less is more, multi-tasking heroes, the consumer wants hardworking products they can rely on, and a simple but results-driven, tailored routine. Think: treatment moisturizers with serum-strength actives, hydration + targeted ingredients for your biggest concerns like brightening, breakouts or aging.
Personalized Skincare - This is not new, but in 2021 it's more about refining the routine and product line-up that’s right for each individual. This will be done by zoning different serums/face masks/recipes to combine products.
Cleanical - Brands continue to define what clean means to them. Includes: free-from formulations, natural actives, and storytelling hero ingredients
Here’s a scary fact: Women suffer from depression, insomnia, PTSD and anxiety at about twice the rate of men.
In fact, in 2017 Jessica Mulligan, founder of Winged CBD, found herself in a dark place, “I hadn’t had a good night’s sleep in a long time and every day I was on the verge of crying at any given moment.” A friend recommended CBD and she began to feel the crippling effects of anxiety start to lessen. Her relief lead her to research CBD and how it affects the body, and what she discovered was that CBD is particularly helpful to women. That’s when the idea of Winged began to form – she wanted to share the relief she felt from CBD with other women and set out to design a product line specifically formulated for women. In June of 2019 Jessica launched Winged, the first wellness company with CBD products designed specifically for women.
We talk to Jessica about everything from what it was like to start a company – and have a baby – during Covid, to some fun uses for CBD tinctures (hello cookies). We even get a cute cameo from her little “Ginga Ninja.”

We all know that the holidays are generally a time when our wallets get thin and our waistlines expand. But in the midst of a global pandemic, the holidays could be different this year. She offers tips on the healthiest alcohol to drink this holiday and even shares tips on how to reset your diet now instead of waiting for January 1st.
We are always on the lookout for the next best thing, but the newest ingredient in skincare might be an old one revisited - camel milk.
While it may not be found in many of today's products, for centuries, camel milk has been revered for its curative properties in both Africa and the Middle East. Even Queen Cleopatra is said to have bathed in Camel Milk to maintain her youthful appearance.
And perhaps there's a reason that this super food is finding its way into our skincare routines. Camel Milk is packed with immune proteins, fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals such as:
Omega Fatty Acids 3, 6 & 9: Building blocks of healthy cell membranes; they create natural oil barrier keeping skin hydrated
Natural Alpha Hydroxy Acids: Gentle exfoliation of our skin from dead cells
Vitamins & Minerals: A high concentration of vitamins A, B, C, D & E are all naturally abundant in camel milk. They have repairing properties supporting natural skin rejuvenation
Immune Proteins: High concentrations of unique Anti-Bacterial, Anti-Viral, Anti-Fungal, Anti-Microbial, Anti-Inflammatory and Immune Supporting Proteins
Phospholipids: Naturally-occurring molecules that attract water and hold on to it. As a results phospholipids are a crucial component for keeping the skin hydrated.
We speak to Marc Green, the co-founder of Cammellatte – a camel-milk-based skincare line, about the benefits of camel milk and why he created a line around this healing ingredient.

From her start as a bud-tender in 2006, to currently running a multi-million dollar company, Olivia Alexander is truly the “boss babe” of Cannabis. Last year, Olivia launched a beauty product for makeup that turned the industry on its head: the KINGDM Cosmetics THC Primer. The product is the world’s first-ever psychoactive makeup product. It went on to earn the 2019 Beauty Innovator Award for Makeup from Refinery29. Olivia created proprietary formulas for this product and in 2020, expanded her foothold in beauty to include a THC enhanced Foto Setting Spray. We talk about how and why she created a hemp wellness brand with a line of revolutionary THC and CBD infused products and how she sees an opportunity with cannabis, not just to improve lives, but to improve the world.
Pure vitamin C is a proven and powerful skincare ingredient: it can reduce sun spots and hyperpigmentation and increase collagen production for brighter-looking and firmer skin. But all of these benefits do not come without a cost – vitamin C is also notoriously unstable and can oxidize quickly, becoming less efficient.
According to Ron Robinson, a cosmetic chemist, once a vitamin C formula has turned brown or orange, it is no longer the powerhouse we expect it to be. After spending fifteen years in the beauty industry as a cosmetic chemist and product development executive for companies that include Clinique, Estee Lauder, Revlon, Avon and L’Oreal, Ron decided to create his own vitamin C formula, Beautystat. The difference is an encapsulated delivery system that helps minimize oxidation and maximize stability. What does this mean? His Vitamin C Serum is as potent from the first drop to the last. We sat down with Ron to discuss why vitamin C should be an essential step in everyone's routine, and how he came to discover this breakthrough formula.
We sit down with Brian Goodwin, International Educator for celeb-fave spa brand, Eminence Organic Skin Care, to get the scoop on antioxidants. Find out what free radicals are (no, it’s not your high school boyfriend’s garage band), which essential vitamin our bodies don’t produce (but is a complexion game changer) and how to amp up your skin care routine with natural goodness. Ripe with skin care application tips and a visual demo that will make your jaw drop, you’ll be inspired to go back to school - esthetician school, that is.
Virtual presentations have become an inevitable part of our lives. But you can present your best self with a few simple tips, whether you're on Google Meetings or Zoom, speaking to your co-workers, CEO or cousins.
We speak to Brenden Kumarasamy, a public speaking coach and the host of MasterTalk on Youtube, about how we can improve our virtual presentation skills. He offers tips on how to better prepare our actual presentations and effective ways to practice speaking.
Amber will also share her practical tips on how to ensure you have the best lighting and backgrounds.
We get the inside scoop on breast augmentation from four women who had some form of surgery - for very different reasons. From a double mastectomy and reconstruction, to a reduction at a young age, to implants and a lift, these friends discuss why they wanted surgery, and everything the WISH they knew beforehand. They'll share some helpful tips for anyone considering augmentation, whether it's the best things to buy for recovery or how to deal with guesstimating breast size.
October is Blindness Awareness Month and we are honored to be able to spotlight Chelsea Nguyen, a licensed cosmetologist and image consultant, who helps empower men and women who are visually impaired by teaching them non-visual hair, makeup and grooming techniques. In this inspiring episode she’ll share her tips and tricks, as well as talk about the some of the technology available to help the visually impaired identify colors and prevent wardrobe mishaps, and even shares ways that fully-sighted individuals can donate their time to help out. According to the CDC, approximately 12 million people 40 years and over in the United States have vision impairment, including 1 million who are blind, and an estimated 93 million adults in the United States are at high risk for serious vision loss.

If you've noticed dark spots on your skin and you're looking to get rid of them, you need to be aware that all discoloration is not the same, and that you can actually make some discoloration worse if you treat it with the wrong modality.
We talk to renowned dermatologist, Dr. Dennis Gross, about the different causes of the hyperpigmentation – a broad term used to describe skin that has been discolored or darkened due to an array of factors, including sun damage, acne scarring or inflammation and melasma. In the fall, Dr. Dennis Gross always sees a spike in patients coming in to correct hyperpigmentation that either appeared or got worse over the summer. We talk about the best way to determine what kind of discoloration you have, and professional treatment options such as lasers and peels. He also details what to look for in products for at-home treatment.
For all treatment options, Dr. Gross recommends a three-prong approach: exfoliate dead pigmented calls, inhibit melanin transfer within middle layers of skin and prevent melanin production at the source. Finally, we'll discuss how to keep skin clear of dark patches once they are faded.

Beauty isn’t ONLY Skin Deep. Happiness and peace are big contributors to beauty as you either radiate vibrant energy - or not. No amount of skin care products can hide fatigue, anxiety and fear. If we want to look our best - we have to feel our best. That means we have to incorporate our entire wellbeing in our self-care and beauty regime. It means looking at our anxiety, healing our traumas, learning how to release things in our life that are draining our energy and putting better boundaries in place (in relation to people, time, energy outputs and drama). We speak to metaphysician and self-development specialist, Dr. Sonia Killik (Mpsy.D) about her 4-point Renew system, the four quadrants of a persona life that need attention on our path to total wellbeing.

Sagging skin can prematurely age us, especially around the eyes. But out of necessity, one woman created a product that won't allow age or genetics to dictate how you look and feel. We talk to Contours RX founder and CEO, Britain Todd, about Lids By Design, her "push-up bra for the eyelids. These cosmetic strips were developed to temporarily uplift the appearance of eyelids, and are especially helpful for those who experience moderate hooding and desire the temporary look of a casual lift or moderate adjustment for asymmetrical eyes.

If your skincare routine is more complicated than a fishtail French braid (or takes even one tenth of the tie to complete), you’re definitely overdoing it and may even be doing more harm than good. According to Dr. Heather Rogers, a board-certified dermatologist, you only need five products to effectively prevent damage, increase cell turnover and slow the aging process. She breaks down the only 5 items you need in a skincare routine, and shares her favorite products. We say it’s great advice for our faces and our finances.

If you’ve started to notice changes in your skin or even mood, there’s a chance your hormones are to blame.
While there is no specialized field specifically dedicated to ”hormonal dermatology”, Dr. Zenovia has taken a keen interest in the area. We talk to the board-certified dermatologist about everything from how to identify hormonal acne to the relationship between estrogen and collagen. She also felt that there has always been a market white space in products that effectively address internal issues topically, and so she created a line centered around hormonal dermatology. Dr. Zenovia Skincare has two collections, one for anti-aging and one for acne, and launched this month on the dermatologists website and will be available next month on Sephora.
When we think of plastic surgery, there can be immediate connotations, positive or negative, that come to our minds: our favorite celebrities, our guilty-pleasure reality TV shows, or even our friends and families who have had procedures. There tends to be an air of negativity around plastic surgery: assumptions about people’s motivations, and judgments about before and after transformations, can make plastic surgery feel like a taboo topic. We talk to Dr. Chloe Carmichael about how plastic surgery can be a way for someone to increase their self-confidence and empower a person to choose how they want to present themself to the world because they have a clear sense of self, and they know exactly how they want to look.
Not so fun fact: we spend over 1/2 our lives in front of screens and that endless screen time could trigger more than FOMO - it could be be aging you. But one company, Goodhabit, is pioneering the movement in defending your skin against artificial blue light and modern day skin stressors. According to Jeniece Trizzino, the VP of product Development, spending one hour in front of our computers is the same as spending 15 minutes in the sun - UNPROTECTED She says that all of our digital screens (meaning your laptop, TV, tablet, phone) and even our Ring Light (eek!) emit blue light. While UVA and UVB rays impact the first and second layers of skin, blue light actually penetrates at a deeper level and causes oxidative stress, increasing the risk of dullness, discoloration, and fine lines. We get to the bottom of why Blue Light needs to be on your radar, and Jeniece shares her tips for protecting against the damaging rays of blue light when you can’t unplug.
The beauty industry takes in almost 50 billion dollars a year, and that’s in the U.S. alone. With promises of more youthful, firmer and brighter skin, it’s no wonder we flock to buy the latest products and seek out the buzziest new ingredients. But according the Dr. Heather Rogers, you may have been duped – and she’s not afraid to tell you why. We’ll talk about why using multiple products can actual be harmful, and why expensive doesn’t always equal results. She’ll also share the best way to get rid of sunspots, how to lessen the appearance of scars, and the skincare regimen and ingredients to get proven results.
A team of stem-cell scientists may have discovered the molecule to help not only prevent but also reverse inflammation in our cells that leads to aging. Drs. Ben Van Handel PhD and Amir Nobakht MD, MBA met in the stem cell biology labs at USC. Their orthopedic research was focused on reducing "inflammaging" (inflammation + aging) and increasing the functionality of stem cells in our joints, thereby re-growing cartilage. This mission led them to develop HX-1, a molecule that shields stem cells from stressors that fuel the aging process. Once they realized these same technologies could apply to the skin, Heraux was born. We talk to the founders about what HX-1 does to the skin, and why it lives up to the price tag.
When it comes to a whiter smile, there are unlimited options that claim to work – from strips, to trays, to toothpaste. We talk to Amber's own dentist, Pamela Hunte, about the various methods for whitening both in-home and in-office, and what realistic results we can except from each. She'll also discuss bonding, veneers, and even share an ineffective product that you probably have in your medicine cabinet.
Radio Frequency (RF) Energy Delivered Microneedling is one of the most exciting and versatile technologies on the market today – it jumpstarts collagen production, smooths out fine lines and wrinkles, improves skin quality, and reduces scars and stretch marks, and can be used on any skin type for texture, pores, scars, and skin tightening anywhere on the body. Microneedling uses a special device with needles to create tiny channels in the skin to trigger its natural wound healing capabilities, namely the production of collagen and elastin, the building blocks of supple, youthful skin. Unlike lasers which are light-based, these devices use radio frequency energy to produce bulk heating of the dermis that induces new collagen production to tighten, firm and thicken skin.
We talk to Dr. Jessica Weiser about what we can expect from the treatment, and the best away to achieve maximum results. She also gives the tea on the state of things in Soho and exciting advancements in cellulite reduction!
Breast size, shape and proportion play a unique role in every woman’s self-perception, sense of physical balance, femininity, and confidence. Pregnancy, weight gain and loss, heredity, or advancing age can predispose to loss of breast volume, projection and position. We talk to Dr. Adam Kolker about how a breast lift, also known as a mastopexy, can restore a more youthful, perky, attractive shape, proportion and balance to the breasts. We also dive into the differences in implant types (saline vs. silicone), how to find the best size and surgeon, and review all of the risks and considerations one must make before undergoing any type of breast augmentation Amber also shares a personal story and reveals why Dr. Kolker might be her “breast” kept secret.
What will beauty look like in a post pandemic world? Is it safe to finally get our roots done? And WTF is a pedi bubble?!?
Faith Xue, Editorial Director of Byrdie, gives us her first-hand, unbiased expert opinion on what the beauty industry will look like post-Covid. She also gives tea on the best classes she took in quarantine, Amazon's best-kept secret (attention fashionistas!) and why this may be the end of Sephora as we know it.
Until recently, the only way to reduce skin laxity—such as jowls and drooping cheeks—was through a surgical face lift or mini-lift. While injectables can restore lost volume, they cannot remove loose skin, and so a new type of procedure has been developed to fill in the gap between noninvasive facial rejuvenation and facelift surgery: The "thread lift." While there are three types of threads used, they all involve the use of temporary sutures inserted under the skin, to pull the skin back slightly and lift the face or neck. In addition to to the subtle but visible lift, the threads activate the body's healing response and creates collagen. But while the results can be fabulous, one doctor says they are not as consistent as Botox and Filler. We talk to Dr. Samer Jaber about thread lifts, and the pro's and con's of using them.
Up to 90% of skin aging is due to the effects of the sun, but what if we could stop that damage – even after a burn occurs? We talk to Dr. James Beckman, founder of the Theraderm Skin Renewal System, who says his line can reverse UV damage that has already happened to skin throughout the day - whether you used sunscreen or not. Theraderm incorporates a patent-pending formulation that is currently being proved in a bio-engineering university study to prevent most permanent sun-related damage when used AFTER skin injury occurs. This is accomplished with medical-grade formulations and a mix of ingredients that includes the primary natural mediator of energy storage and use in the body, enzymes, powerful antioxidants and patented peptides. One of the patent-protected peptides is exclusive only to Theraderm products and is proven to reduce and repair signs of aging in the skin itself!
Currently, the most popular and effective non-invasive, skin tightening device on the market, Ulthera uses ultrasound energy to tighten not only the superficial layers of the skin but also some of the soft tissue beneath them. It’s also the only FDA-approved non-invasive treatment for skin lifting. The treatment takes about an hour and a half, and its effect lasts up to two years.
We talk to Raechel Lowe, a licensed aesthetician with an extensive medical background who is renowned for her role as a trainer, key opinion leader, mentor, and investigator for laser companies. Hear how she treated Amber’s skin and the real truth about the procedure, the pain involved, and the results.
We’ve ALL been living in loungewear and now that offices are reopening – it’s time to shed the sweats and get serious about or summer style. With most job interviews being held virtually, we've put even more attention on our faces. Compound that with the fact that we can't go to the gym or hair and nail salons, and it's no surprise that people say they are feeling older than ever. We catch up with our beauty bestie, Dr. Jennifer Levine, for tips to help you elevate your appearance and give you an edge over your competition.
As states begin to reopen, what will the effects of coronavirus be on the field of cosmetic surgery and dermatology? Will botox and fillers seem faux pas? And has telemedicine forever changed the way practices handle waiting rooms? We talk to board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Johnny Franco, about what the new world of cosmetic surgery will look like in the post-coronavirus world.
If your pandemic routine hasn’t been panning out, we’ve got a no-fail plan for you. From how to incorporate better eating habits, to improving sleep hygiene, Dr. Mimi Secor shares her pandemic plan to get your mind and body back on track. She shares simple tips and tricks that you can do – in small steps – to improve your physical and mental health. Remember, self-care is not selfish.
What we eat affects not only our immunity but also our beauty. We know it’s important to consume antioxidants, fiber-rich vegetables, and slow-digesting whole grains—as well as superfoods, like collagen, goji berries, and adaptogenic powders – but what are the best ways to incorporate these into our daily routine? We speak with Tatiana Boncompagni, a beauty industry veteran and founder of Eat Sunny – a healthy at-home meal delivery service – about the superfoods we can consume to improve our skin’s appearance, our bodies ability to fight off disease, and what it was like to start a business during a worldwide pandemic.
If you've been noticing that your hair is falling out more than usual, stress may be to blame. Hairloss, clinically known as alopecia, can happen as a result of genetic factors, but excessive physical or emotional stress, can cause an increase in hair loss as well.
We speak with Colleen Camp, an education authority in the hair-loss community, who shares her vast knowledge of treating hair loss and the at-home treatments to regrow your hair–from Minoxidil to LED Light Therapy. She recently joined the Bosley Professional Strength team because "they are the education authority for scientifically addressing fine and thinning hair through a total body approach to wellness and health on a global scale.”
When it comes to liposuction, there are a number of devices that can remove stubborn and unwanted fat. But if you are considering fat transfer, VASERlipo may be the best device to preserve the viability of the removed fat.
Unlike traditional techniques used in other practices, VASERLipo liposuction targets fat cells without damaging surrounding tissue. This targeted and less aggressive approach is more precise, gets exceptionally smooth and shapely outcomes, and has a much faster recovery time.
We talk to Dr. Paul Ruff, a board-certified plastic surgeon about why he only uses VASER Liposuction in his office and what can be achieved through these fat transfer procedures.
Lockdowns may be easing up, but we still need ways to keep ourselves together while the world is falling apart. Amber and Ryan sit down with beauty veteran reporter, Cheryl Kramer Kaye, to discuss the essential beauty and lifestyle items that are making us feel human during quarantine.
With little more to do than stare at our screens, are your eyes feeling the strain of quarantine? We talk to oculofacial plastic surgeon Dr. Maryam Nazemzadeh (one of about 500 oculofacial plastic surgeons worldwide) about the effects of increased screen time on our eyes, the drugstore item we all need in our quarantine toolkits, and why the second wave will not be as bad as this first one. You’ll also get a taste of how this brilliant surgeon likes to relax in her downtime and why Tik Tok stardom might not be out of her future.
So your tooth hurts and you’re wondering if you should wait it out? While we all want to be cautious and adhere to shelter-in-place guidelines, some mouth-related issues require dental assistance immediately. We talk to Dr. David Frank, a cosmetic dentist in Austin, Texas, about what issues can wait, what problems still need to be seen now, and how to stay safe and smile during the coronavirus. Amber also asks about at-home whitening kits and dental tools to ensure that when we finally do resume life outside our homes, we can put our best faces forward.
The personal care industry is highly unregulated which means that companies are essentially free to call their products “clean, organic, green or eco, natural, and even nontoxic” with little government oversight. And since the coronavirus pandemic has forced many of us to reexamine what is healthy when it comes to our own personal care and beauty, how can we be sure that the products we use are not doing more harm than good?
We talk to Teju Owoye, the model-turned-founder of Clean Rebellion, about the difference between “clean” and “natural” beauty and the surprising “natural” ingredients that can be irritating. We also discuss:
Teju shares her favorite (and affordable) natural oils that you can order directly from Amazon, the antiviral supplements she takes, and talks about her line of Castile soaps for glowing skin.
These are stressful times, PERIOD. And, while you may feel out of control, you can boost your immune system with natural ingredients. We talk to Dr. Eldred Taylor, MD, a board-certified holistic practitioner and expert in functional wellness and anti-aging medicine, about the best supplements to take to improve our physical wellbeing.
He also discusses the physiological reason that the body craves comfort food in times of stress...pass the cookies, please.
The Coronavirus pandemic and social distancing have forced us to rethink how we connect with our friends and family, doctors, and even romantic partners. Dr. Johnny Franco, founder of A More Beautiful You Plastic Surgery in Austin Texas, is implementing measures to ensure his nationwide patients can still have access to the practice.
As Dr. Franco explains, “Aesthetic surgery is like many other areas of medicine in that it relies heavily on in-person interactions. Like so many doctors around the world, his usual “hands-on” approach is being modified to allow patients who are scheduling consultations and follow-ups to do these virtually from the comfort of their home. Because the vast majority of our patients schedule months in advance, we want to ensure that we are able to accommodate them safely and securely.” Dr. Franco says that virtual/online appointments have been a common part of his practice and he predicts this switch to a more virtual based approach will continue to grow in spite of the current Coronavirus climate. “We’ve seen the trend increasing over the last two to three years, where patients are increasingly requesting that their initial consults be done remotely.
One of the benefits of the trend toward a more tacit reliance on technology is that it allows patients to have access to specialists all over the state and country. “Patients are no longer limited by geography in terms of where they choose to have procedures done. Virtual/online appointments allow patients to do some of their initial consultations and follow-up appointments remotely.
Just a quick update as we regroup during the Coronavirus pandemic. We want to hear more on the topics that matter to you so please email us at hello@artbeautypodcast.com. Stay inside. Stay Safe. We will be back with full episodes next Tuesday.
If you've been thinking about getting lip filler – your high-school yearbook might be the key to natural-looking results. As we age, our lips naturally lose their fullness and dermal fillers can restore what was lost in the aging process, as well as provide the underlying support and structure that the mouth had in its youth. But if you never had Angelina Jolie lips to begin with, is it possible to achieve a plump pout without looking overdone?
We talk to Dr. Julie Russak about the best fillers to use in the lips, and surrounding areas, as well as the latest techniques and practices for achieving a natural look. She also shares some inside advice on how to prepare for your lip filler treatment, and what you should always bring with you.

And while your weekly manicures probably won't cause your fingers to fall off, they could be adding to the toxicity in your body. The latest trend in maintaining a youthful appearance is prejuvenation – starting non-invasive cosmetic procedures at an earlier age to put off more invasive procedures like a facelift. According to the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 72 percent of facial plastic surgeons saw an increase in cosmetic procedures in patients under 30. From Botox to Fraxel, Dr. Robyn Gymrek explains the non-invasive options for preventing wrinkles, age spots and more. She'll break down exactly what products and procedures you need to be using in your 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's.
The cosmetics industry may have consumers confused when it comes to "clean beauty." While beauty brands must legally list ingredients, they have pretty free rein when it comes to greenwashing their marketing terminology. Words such as "natural" and "green" have no enforceable or standardized definitions and can differ vastly from brand to beauty brand.
Our guest, Mike Indursky, comes from the "big beauty" world – he served as the president of Bliss World, the Chief Marketing Officer of Burt’s Bees and held various executive GM and marketing roles for brands at L’Oreal and Unilever. His passion and purpose are to shake up the skincare industry by ending the days of using ingredients that shouldn’t go on skin, in packaging that isn’t sustainable, making claims that can’t be kept, with prices that are too high for products people don’t need.
We'll talk to him about how consumers can put pressure on brands to be more accountable and sustainable, and discuss how his new line, Hear Me Raw, challenges virtually every beauty convention to do what’s truly best for our industry, our skin and our world.
Couples are waiting longer and longer to get married. However, planning a wedding in your 30's, 40's and beyond means vastly different considerations than when you're in your 20s – from budgeting (should I take time off work?) to beauty (should you botox?). Our guest Erica, the managing editor for Travel Leaders Group, share her experience and advice for more mature brides.
Celebrities will put their names on everything from cars to coffee. But when a celebrity comes out with their own beauty line, how involved are they really? She'll dish on the best and worst of celebrity beauty, and then shares some great facts on lipstick. After listening to this podcast you may never try on lipstick in a store again!
Sun exposure can result in premature aging of the skin, which can often reveal itself as brown pigmented spots that we lovingly refer to as age spots and sun spots. These brown lesions often appear on the face, chest and back, as well as the back of the hands and legs. But luckily, in a cosmetic sense, we can undo some of the damage using a combination of at-home and in-office treatments. Our guest, Dr. Robyn Gmyrek, spent over 20 years on the faculty of Columbia University Medical Center where she was Division Chief of Cosmetic Dermatology and founded Columbia University’s Cosmetic Skin and Laser Center. Now a practicing dermatologist, she shares her vast knowledge of the treatments that work, and when they are safe to use. From Hydroquinone to Fraxel, she'll share her favorite ways to remove pigmented lesions from your skin.

Close to 80 million men and women suffer from hereditary hair loss. For many years, the only treatment options supported by research were Minoxidil and Propecia. More recent research is showing that Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is also successful at stimulating hair growth. Studies prove that PRP stimulates a faster transition to the anagen phase of hair cycling back from the resting and transitional phases, as well as an increase in the number and thickness of newly formed follicles.
Our guest, Dr. Jennifer Chwalek, researched hair loss at the University of California, San Francisco. Since entering private practice, she has helped thousands of patients of all ages and genders who struggle with hair loss and thinning. She weighs in on some of the treatments available to stimulate follicular hair growth, and debunks some common hair-growth myths.

Here's a little secret: if you've ever iced a pulled muscle, you've already done cryotherapy, which literally means “cold therapy." Put simply, cryotherapy is a technique where the body is exposed to extremely cold temperatures for several minutes. The treatment can be delivered to just one area (localized), or you can opt for whole-body cryotherapy. Similar to the ice bath that professional athletes utilize after an extreme workout, cryotherapy reduces inflammation, resulting in quicker muscle recovery and decreased muscle soreness. It can also offer relief for people suffering from chronic pain, inflammation-related diseases and skin disorders like fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis and eczema and has been used to promote quicker healing post injury or surgery. Recently, cryotherapy has been popularized by athletes and fitness enthusiasts, the stressed-out and overworked, those looking to get their bodies back on track from injury and chronic pain, and those seeking general health and wellness. Amber and Ryan hit Capital Cryo to see if this extreme cold could cure Amber's summer sickness, and to talk to a cryo therapist about what to expect from your first cryo session.
If you've been looking for a way to instantly reveal smoother, brighter, celeb-worthy skin, it's time to try dermaplaning. We sit down with Dermaflash founder (and original #bossbabe) Dara Levy to talk about the benefits of dermaplaning and how she built a beauty empire from a simple ah-ha moment. She even shares her "try before you buy" technique that will let you test drive a nose before you commit to full surgery.
