UNO Souls Chats are about highlighting beacons of light in the community that are doing beautiful things for themselves and for others in their communities from the bottom of their hearts. They are reaching out with acts of kindness and giving others hope. It’s an opportunity to be vulnerable about how things are going for them and what tools they are using to cope through these unprecedented times. It’s also an opportunity for them to talk about their business if they would like to— to let us know how they have pivoted— and perhaps how we can use their services at this time.

UNO Souls is a wellbeing organization that centers and nurtures each person so they may blossom into their fuller self. ✨
Breathing exercises are amazing, because what we know for sure is that we are in touch with our breath at any moment. And also deep breaths can help minimize anxiety, stress and all kinds of emotions.
Today we're going to practice Bumble Bee breathing, also known as Humming Breath. This breath will relax you if you've been feeling angry or if you have a headache.
I invite you to make yourself comfortable by sitting or laying down. Close your eyes. If you're comfortable with that, we'll start with just a deep releasing breath in - and a deep breath out. Every deep breath helps you to relax more.
We're going to start with taking three belly breaths or diaphragmatic breaths, breathing in. Breathing out. Two more times now we’ll breathe in through our nose and breathe out with a hum. The louder you hum, the more you will relax. Let's take three bumble bee breaths together. Breathe in through the nose and breathe out – hmmmmmm.
Breathe in - and breathe out. Hmmmmmm. Breathe in - and breathe out. Hmmmmm.
You might have felt vibrations in your face. This breath calms our body and our mind.
You can practice this breath two times a day if you'd like.
Thank you for spending a few moments of your day with me. Please let me know what you think of this breathing exercise.
I honor the light in you. ✨

This breathing exercise is powerful — what we know for sure is that our breath is available to us at any moment. Taking deep breaths can help minimize our anxiety, stress, anger, sadness — supporting all types of emotions.
Today we're going to practice alternate nostril breathing. This breathing technique can have wonderful health benefits, and it can really help if you're feeling overwhelmed. I invite you to sit on a chair or lay down on the floor. You want to be comfortable. Close your eyes if you're comfortable with that.
We'll start with just a deep, relaxing breath in and a deep breath out. Every deep breath helps you to relax more. Using your right thumb, close your right nostril while inhaling through the left. Now exhale by covering your left nostril with your ring finger and breathe out through your right.
Inhale again, but through the right nostril. And then exhale through your left. That is one cycle. Repeat this three more times. Now just release the hand. Take a few breaths here in stillness. Feel the effects. You can practice this breath two times a day if you feel you need it to bring down anxiety. Thank you for spending a few moments of your day with me.
Please let us know what you think of this breathing exercise. I honor the light in you. ✨

This breathing exercise is amazing — what we know for sure is that our breath is available to us at any moment. Taking deep breaths can help minimize our anxiety, stress, anger, sadness — supporting all types of emotions.
Today we're going to practice that 4—7—8 breathing exercise. This breathing exercise can help slow down our heart rate and lower our blood pressure. I invite you to make yourself comfortable by sitting or laying down. You can close your eyes if you're comfortable with that.
➡️ We're going to start with just a deep releasing breath in... and a breath out. Every deep breath helps you to relax more.
4️⃣ Now, close your mouth and inhale quietly through your nose to a mental count of four.
7️⃣ Hold your breath for a count of seven.
8️⃣ Then exhale completely through your mouth to a count of eight.
Repeat this three more times at your pace. Then, release the technique and go back to your normal breathing.
You can practice this breath two times a day, if you feel the need to bring down anxiety, or to find a moment of calm in a busy day.
Thank you for spending a few moments of your day with me. Please let me know what you think of this breathing exercise. I honor that light in your. ✨

We're serving up an UNO Souls Bite as we offer our thoughts.
The dictionary defines equanimity as the evenness of mind, especially under stress.
We see equanimity as the space of awareness that can allow life to be just as it is. If we train the mind to make kindness, compassion, and equanimity what we practice, these qualities can become the shape of our mind.

Take a moment to experience how these simple actions can give a calm + comforting presence to yourself. Join us as we take a deep breath and say out loud...

Mindfulness is an intentional focus on one's thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations — in the present moment. We are going to apply that while eating. Nourishing our soul with nourishing food is so important, and it can feel like such a special moment to occasionally give yourself a chance to really focus on what you're eating by taking your time to really ~savor the deliciousness~ of the food.
Take a moment and experience the sensation of mindful eating. ✨

Vicky is a thoughtful, wise person whose experience with grief and healing led her to create an online community of compassionate people. Leesburg Moms on Facebook has a community of nearly 4.5k people and encourages its members to "collaborate and share information to be your best mom and self."
Words of Wisdom: "Life is very unpredictable. I've lived many highs and many lows— so when the highs come, enjoy yourself, immerse yourself. And when the lows are there: taking one day at a time, and understanding that this is part of a journey, and finding ways to cope with the difficult periods in our lives, including the one we're in right now. Everything thing has its time, and I do think we get to choose how we're going to respond."I am grateful for you, Vicky. Thank you for taking the time to chat with me!

UNO Souls Chat: I am honored today to be chatting with Deborah Addo— she is the President of Inova Loudoun Hospital.
Deborah is an inspiring leader in our community and always guides her heroic healthcare teams with kindness and compassion – but has especially done so through the challenging year of the pandemic. Safe@Inova is an important motto for Deborah and the hospital. We are lucky to have Deborah in our community. She is definitely an UNO Soul!
Words of Wisdom: “I would just say… during this time of reflection… my mom passed around this time in January.. It is always a reminder for me of those people in our lives who’ve meant so much to us. And those people in our lives that have made indelible impressions. And as we’re going through the hardest times that we may ever go through, it’s being able to see and experience the joy of that....Even though you might miss the person, that impact and that impression never goes away. And it’s interesting how acute it is when you need it the most.”
I am grateful for you Deborah. Thank you for taking the time to chat with me!

Heathere is an insightful and delightful (oh, I rhymed 😊) coach! She was local to Loudoun County, VA several years ago – in a different role – as a PR/Communications executive. She is definitely an UNO Soul!

Diane is working on a very important project that impacts everyone and is heart-work— a memorial quilt. The quilt panels are in honor of the front-line workers. Quilts represent the fabric of our nation. As we go through the pandemic, she is collecting 11-inch quilt squares with images of people that have passed away from COVID-19. The stories behind each quilt square are very moving. You can go to www.hopequilt.org to get instructions on how to create your own Hope Quilt panel and then send it to Diane.

UNO Souls Chat: I am honored today to be chatting with Pat Wirth – an UNO Soul. She is the Executive Director of the Turning Point Suffragist Memorial Association.
Pat is one of the kindest and strongest people that I know and I’ve always admired her. When she sets her mind to accomplishing something, she gets it done, and is not afraid of the hard work that it takes to reach her goal. She is also a very loyal friend that will go above and beyond to help a friend in need. I consider my lucky to have received her words of wisdom many times!
Words of wisdom: “Vote. It’s absolutely essential that we vote. Don’t ever think that your single vote doesn’t count. Our organization is nonpartisan, so we don’t care who you vote for. We just want to say how important it is – that as a citizen – you should exercise your right and choose who our best leaders should be.”
I am grateful for you Pat! Thank you for taking the time to chat with me!

UNO Souls Chat: I am honored today to be chatting with Leah Rampy – an UNO Soul. She has worn many hats including an executive in different corporations (including Fannie Mae), she ran her own consulting business, she was the Executive Director of a non-profit (Shalem Institute), runs interfaith retreats, and now she lives in a cohousing community in Shepherdstown, West Virginia.
She is an amazing lady that I admire and is a beacon of light in the community. She is an activist in many areas including the environment, which she is very passionate about. She is rich in wisdom and is such a pleasure to speak with. She has always been an inspiration to me, and I’m grateful that she has been my mentor.
– Hear about the Save Our Soil initiative that she undertook at the cohousing community, to address climate change and the lack of ecosystems in the world and to support the regeneration of soil – she has such passion in that area.
Quote from Leah: “The intent of the Church of the Wild is to invite people to spend time in the outdoors as a way to connect to the sacredness all around us and the sacredness in the whole living earth.”
Words of wisdom: “Everybody has their own wisdom. So it’s a matter of quieting ourselves to listen for that – for what is being given. I really trust that the heart is wise, and that the heart has wisdom beyond what we know. The mystics of old, that talked about mind and heart or the spiritual heart or sinking into the heart, that is deep deep wisdom, and is an invitation always for us - but particularly in times of stress, in times where we cannot figure it out. And our tendency is to try harder. And I have to think about it. And I need to know what I’m supposed to do. And I don’t know if I should do this. And I’m not sure, and we get in that hamster wheel of thinking. And at best it only gets us an iteration of where we are. The transformative piece is a heart journey.”

UNO Souls Chat: I am honored today to be speaking with Dennis Stanley – an UNO Soul. He owns Chantel’s Bakery.
He does amazing work in the community – always. Listen to how he quickly pivoted his business during these challenging times. He is a champion of social media and the pictures of his desserts are mouthwatering… Mother’s Day Weekend – in the middle of the pandemic— they sold out. This had not happened in 30 years of him being in business! His motto: Always listen to the customer; pay attention to what they are saying. What makes him happy is to put a smile on someone’s face.
Dennis prepares cakes for people with food allergies: everything from no dairy, no soy, no flour, no egg, no nuts, no sugar – to name a few. He wants all children (and adults) to be able to enjoy cake at a birthday party. Listen to his stories about how he gives joy to children and adults when they get to enjoy his cakes. Hear his story about his foundation called Sprinkle of Thanks. It’s based on giving thanks to people that are doing good things in the community.
To learn more about how to donate to Sprinkle of Thanks, check their Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/sprinklesofthanks
Words of Wisdom: "Self-reflection; just learn who you are because a lot of people don't know who they are, because society has told them who they are, and what they should like and not like. But just do some reflection, and learn what you like and don't like. And then just enjoy the moment. The most important thing I got out of this pandemic time is: enjoy the moment."
I am grateful for you, Dennis! Thanks for taking the time to chat with me.

UNO Souls Chat: I am honored today to be chatting with Ben Papa – an UNO Soul. He is a Leadership Coach and Enneagram Teacher.
Ben is a very kind and introspective coach. He was a lawyer for 18 years that transitioned to coaching and training business leaders to be personally effective in their business so that they can be more successful from a business/financial perspective. It’s about being effective as a human being.
Words of wisdom: “The wisest thing I ever heard is to be sure that I know myself. That I really am taking an honest deep, clear, look at who I am and how I roll. That I know what my gifts and strengths are, not what I wish they were or what other people tell me they should be or what would earn me the most money, but what are my actual gifts and strengths. When do I feel like I’m in the flow of life…A lot of people don’t do that self-reflective, self-awareness work and I think that’s sad because they end-up missing out on how to live the fullest, richest life that they have. Whatever your favorite tool is – the Enneagram is my favorite tool…figure out who you really are at your core and use that to map out how you do life. I think it’s the wisest thing that I can say.”
I am grateful for you Ben! Thank you for taking the time to chat with me!

UNO Souls Chat: I am honored today to be chatting with Cathy Norman – an UNO Soul. She is the curator of Imagine Wellbeing – a nonprofit organization in Loudoun County, VA.
Cathy is an amazing soul that is one of the most spiritual, kind-hearted, compassionate and giving people that I know. She is a registered yoga teacher and a certified meditation teacher. She founded Imagine Wellbeing 8 years ago and just recently it became a 501(c)(3) organization. She is a light in our community. We are so lucky!
Words of wisdom: “Celebrate and invite compassion for yourself. Every day. When that happens, when you’re able to be more compassionate with yourself and allow all of the things that we’ve been talking about. It’s part of being human. What a sacred gift it is to be able to identify with others and their suffering. And to have concerns for our loved ones. That’s all normal. And for our own health. When we receive that compassion, we become a more compassionate person.”
I am grateful for you Cathy! Thank you for taking the time to chat with me!

Tom is a very much loved and inspirational leader in our community who has a very kind heart. He is very creative and innovative. He co-founded A Place to Be 10 years ago with Kim Tapper— a music therapy center with the main basis being working with people with life challenges and disabilities through music therapy and one of the main components is performance.
Words of wisdom: "I want to close on the word 'Compassion'...having compassion for yourself has to come first. We can build this story up to be so beyond a nightmare. And so it’s important to do things that can ground yourself. Lastly, try some music without words. Pick a song from when you were 14 years old and it makes you feel good. Dance in the kitchen! Music is a beautiful portal for you take what is happening in here. And use sound to just be with it. Sing at the top of your lungs!"
We know what you’ve gone through this past month – and I am grateful that you shared your story with us. I am grateful that you’re healing so well. I am grateful for you, Tom! Thank you for taking the time to chat with me!

Words of wisdom: “We can all be agents of change in big and small ways. We can all use our voice for positive or negative. I think that we have an opportunity every day and a choice every day on how we are going to live our lives. I think that this pandemic has given me an opportunity to not take for granted what really matters. And it has made me realize what little we really need in life to be happy. Positivity and passion—much like COVID—are very contagious and we can spread it quickly. Be true to yourself and spread your positivity and passion.”
