This is the perfect podcast for parents of teenagers. Being a teen is hard. Being the parent of a teenager can be equally tough. This podcast will share tips, tools and stories to help parents of teenagers feel empowered, while also sharing ways they can help their kids feel confident and empowered. As an experience high school teacher, mom of 3 young adults, and a certified professional life and leadership coach for teenagers, my entire career has been centered around helping teenagers become the best version of themselves.
Have you ever felt like you're navigating a minefield when it comes to parenting teens in our tech-saturated world? In this episode we talk about guiding teens and tweens through their online lives and the importance of good connection to unlock the secrets of your child's digital experience. We talk about setting concrete boundaries without shutting down communication channels. I share actionable strategies (or reminders, as you may already be doing many of these) to help you and your teen build a relationship that thrives on trust and mutual respect in the age of the internet.
The journey of parenting doesn't need to be a solitary one. Remember, at the heart of every parent's mission is guiding our teens toward happiness.
HAPPENINGS:
1) Free Webinar --- How parents of teens and tweens can better connect without all the arguments, attitude, disrespect or guilt)
2) The Confidently Connected [Teen/Tween] System is a super easy 3-step system for teens, tweens, and parents.
It's designed to give today's youth tools to help them discover who they are so they don't spend years suffering from low self-esteem, a lack of confidence or motivation, unhealthy relationships (with themselves and others), and generally6 feeling lost, stuck, unhappy, or out of control.
The Confidently Connected [Parent] System gives parents of teens and tweens tools to support and better understand what their kids might be going through, as well as help them strengthen or create strong, healthy relationships (with their kids, themselves, and others).
Because the system is hybrid, that means the teen/tween can work at their own pace and in their own time, as the content is fully digital.
Additionally, there are weekly call opportunities to connect for both the teens/tweens, and, separately, for the parents.
This might just be the easiest system you will come across to get teens and tweens the information they need (which is generally NOT taught in schools) to improve their self-worth, their confidence, and their overall mindset so they can become happy, successful young adults, which all parents want for their kids.
Struggling to strike the perfect balance between letting your teens spread their wings and keeping them under a watchful eye?
As a confidence, connection, leadership and life coach with a treasure trove of parenting expertise, on this episode we are going to talk about how to foster independence and autonomy without micromanaging.
I'll take you through 6 steps (a roadmap of sorts) towards building trust with open communication, and setting the stage for your teen's decision-making prowess—all without suffocating their budding desire for independence.
It's not just about fostering independence; it's about cultivating a connection that will stand the test of time and challenge.

Ever wondered why your teenager is acting out, or why they seem to be drifting further from their authentic selves in a bid to fit in? Do you sometimes wish you could help them navigate these critical years without losing their individuality?
I understand this struggle first-hand, and it’s a real worry for a lot of parents.
When teens or tweens are not true to themselves, they will often feel lost or confused. This often shows up as a bad attitude, anger, and disconnection, and it makes it really hard for parents to help them.
In this episode, I’ll also reveal a new system I've designed specifically for parents and teenagers called 'Confidently Connected'. This super easy 3-step system helps teens and tweens discover who they are and understand what's truly important to them, so they can become confident, happy, and self-assured young adults; while supporting parents along the way.

Ever imagined exploring the complexities of parenting teenagers through the exhilarating lens of surfing? That's exactly what this episode offers. We draw striking parallels between the thrill of surfing and the roller-coaster ride of raising teens. From catching an amazing wave to missing one, or even crashing and burning on a big wave - we use these scenarios to expose the life lessons hidden in missed chances and the power of resilience.
Our journey doesn't end there. We transition into examining how just as big wave surfers depend on their ski drivers, we need a supportive crew in our lives. This segment emphasizes the necessity of self-belief and self-worth in teens, especially when selecting friends, ensuring they aren't exploited. Parenting is as challenging as tackling a monster wave, but remember, it's okay to take a breather, figure things out and learn to ride the waves of life. So buckle up for this enlightening, empowering, and undeniably relatable discourse on the parallels between surfing and parenting.

On this episode of the Empowered Parent Podcast I talk about the a single word, but a powerful shift that I believe is the KEY to creating true CONFIDENCE within yourself. It's not necessarily easy to achieve this, but it is possible, and something every single person - parent, teen, tween, non-parent, etc. deserve.
For some, it will be a journey to get there. But, I honestly can't think of a single journey more worthwhile than doing whatever you can - for yourself or your kids - than to unlock this KEY TO CONFIDENCE.

Whether we are labeling ourselves or labeling others, words matter.
Words impact.
Thoughts dictate.
Verbal or non-verbal (something we might be thinking), the power of labels that we place on others, or labels that are placed on us, can change the trajectory of a persons day, week, or even their life.

On this episode of the Empowered Parent Podcast I talk about Letting Go of a Fear-Based Mindset. So many kids make decisions and choices out of fear - often at the expense of their own self-worth and confidence. But the truth is, many parents also parent out of fear. Maybe this is because of your own past. Or simply because it's a scary world out there. The question becomes what is the cost (to us or our kiddos) when it's fear that dictates our choices and decisions?

On this episode of the Empowered Parent Podcast I talk about Self-Leadership in Teens and Tweens. This past week I had some really great conversations with a few kiddos regarding self-leadership that I wanted to share.
Many teens don't see themselves as a leader unless they are in a leadership role. But the truth is that everyday when they walk out the door, they are stepping into self-leadership. What might be different if today's teens saw themselves as a leader no matter ?

On this episode of the Empowered Parent Podcast I talk about 3 Things I Learned as a TEACHER that Parallel Into PARENTING. As a parent of a teen or tween, you are the single most important teacher in their lives (no pressure, right?!) - because they are continuously watching, modeling, and learning from you.
In the classroom, I very quickly I learned these 3 lessons that were vital to giving my students the best opportunity for success. When I became a parent, I realized that these same lessons were vital to helping my own kids through their teen years.

On this episode of the Empowered Parent Podcast we talk about A Roadmap To Results. This isn't about setting big, audacious goals, but rather achieving micro successes. This 3-tiered approach will give you (and / or your teen) on a roadmap to achieving micro successes. The idea being when we start coupling micro successes on top of one another our confidence grows.
All three tiers are important, but tier 2 is extremely powerful on starting the journey towards a powerful, energetic and mindset shift.

On this episode of the empowered parent podcast we are going to talk about values.
Core values, specifically.
Those things that when you take out the entire outside world and think about YOU, what are the values most important to YOU.
Values isn't something most of us think about on a daily basis, BUT, they are often the driver for how we show up, and, how we feel.
Understanding our values can help give us clarity into why we might be feeling the way we do.

Hi Parents!
It's been awhile since I've done a podcast like this, but it's a question I ask teens often. Teens and tweens yearn to feel seen, heard, and valued. They yearn to feel validated in their thoughts and feelings. And, when they don't feel this way, they shut down, internalize, and/or simply don't share what's really going on with the most important people in their lives - YOU.
So this podcast is simply me sharing with you what 6 teens and tweens shared with me at this weeks Teen Esteem Academy Bootcamp class that I taught. It's good food-for-thought. Some of these may resonate with you, or even strike a chord and that's okay! Give yourself grace. Then, you get to decide best next steps to show up in a way that doesn't create a connection or communication gap.
Raising teens and tweens is not easy, so as long as you are doing your best on any given day, you can go to bed feeling proud with yourself.

Welcome to another episode of The Empowered Parent Podcast With Renee. In this episode we talk about something that doesn't always come easy to today's teens / tweens...and, sometimes even us adults! I'm talking about self-compassion. We often think of self-compassion as being kind to ourselves, and it is! But it's also more. And there is one word that I think is the key to truly being compassionate with ourselves. I'd love to hear your thoughts after you have a listen.

Teens and Tweens yearn to fit in and be accepted. It's human nature, right? The problem is that there's a difference between fitting in and actually belonging. And, it's within that difference that big impacts on self-esteem, worthiness and confidence show up. Most teens don't have the tools to see the difference, and many will do almost anything just to be accepted. So the question is: Does your child wear a daily mask in hopes of fitting in and being accepted? Or, do they truly belong, **and are able to be their awesome selves each and every day?

In this episode we talk about not only the teen brain, but also, the 3 stages of adolescent development. Knowledge is power, and raising teens and tweens isn't easy. We always want to preserve that parent-child relationship so we are their soft place to fall. This is why, the more information we have about what might be going on with our kiddo, the better chance we have at showing up in a way that builds connection and support, and/or, figuring out what's really going on.
No matter what's going on with your kids, I promise you aren't alone. Nor do you have to go at it alone if you are feeling you might want or need some extra support. Check out below to see what's going on a Teen Esteem Academy, and feel free to reach out anytime.

In today's episode of The Empowered Parent Podcast With Renee we talk about the importance of normalizing uncomfortable emotions. As a parent of a Teen or Tween you are likely already aware that teen emotions can be BIG, sometimes seeminglyUNWARRANTED, and UNCOMFORTABLE (for both them and us).
Though we can see the big picture, and, understand that whatever they are going through now isn't a forever thing - for them, it might not feel that way.
Without tools to process their big emotions in a productive manner, many teens will act out, shut down, retreat, resort to unsafe activities, or find themselves in an unhealthy mental state (that you may or may not be aware of).
This episode shares tools to help you help your teen process, accept, and navigate uncomfortable emotions, so they feel more empowered and in control.

Teens and Tweens spend 8+ hours a day at school (sometimes a lot more if they are involved in extracurricular activities). Unless there is one of those horrific events on the news, we don't often think about whether our kiddos truly feel safe at their school.
During this episode we talk about different types of feeling safe, why it matters, and the impact of when our kids are not feeling safe, as this is a basic human need.

How to deal? In this episode I talk about 6 areas that influence our energy, that when addressed, could be the answer to curbing at least a little bit of that loneliness.
Have your heard about our new group coaching experience called S3 (S Cubed)? I'm spent a lot of time creating it, and am super excited to share.

In this episode we talk about Curbing Conflict With Curiosity. Hmmmmm. Is that even possible? Listen up and decide for yourself, but, the short answer is YES! Notice that I said curbing conflict. I did not say eliminating. That's because if you are listening to this you are most likely the parent of a teen or tween...which means hormones and drama.

This episode is really special to me because I've put a lot of time, effort, heart and soul into creating an empowering 12-week journey for Teens and Parents called S3.

This month, in honor of Teen Self-Esteem Month, I'll be running a series of podcasts aimed at things you can do in the home to boost your teenager's self-esteem. This episode is for both parents AND teenagers.
I share with you 4 Key Questions To Get Unstuck. Everyone gets stuck from time to time (whether we are talking academics, socially, relationships, or even just what to do next, or, how to handle a situation. And sometimes, when we do feel stuck, it's enough to take a nip out of our self-esteem or self-belief.
By pinpointing those one or two areas that might have us stuck, the challenge can go from seemingly insurmountable to actually do-able. Generally, you will find that start point by asking (and ranking) yourself these 4 questions.

This month, in honor of Teen Self-Esteem Month, I'll be running a series of podcasts aimed at things you can do in the home to boost your teenager's self-esteem. Today we talk about Letting Go Of Expectations, which can be hard for parents, because there will be certain things you'd like to expect of your teen.
The truth is, however, that when we expect others (teens, partners, spouse, friends, etc.) to do, say or act a certain way...it's often ourselves that ends up disappointed.
By letting go of how you expect them to show up, and recognizing that is out of your control, it can help to avoid triggers on your part; which, in turn can lessen the possibility of getting saying or doing something that might inadvertently impact their self-esteem.

In this episode we talk about the word WHY. Why? Because, words have energy, and, sometimes a seemingly innocuous word can actually send the wrong message. Connecting with teens, talking, getting them to share and open up is not easy. Some teens are chatter boxes and share away, but it's not necessarily the norm. Most teens find it hard to talk and share...and much of that is due to them feeling unheard and not listened to. In this episode I share 3 words to get (or keep) that conversation going so you can learn more about what's going on in your teen's life.

Let's face it, having a positive attitude isn't always easy. Especially after the year we've had. For teenagers, it can be an even bigger challenge as they don't have the tools, strategies and experience to put things into perspective that adults have.
In this episode I talk about 5 evidence-based strategies that work in helping teens shift from negative thought patterns to a more positive state. The only catch? It takes practice, willingness, and and little bit of patience. Try just one at a time or all five and let me know how it goes.

In this episode we talk about the importance of teaching (and modeling) accountability and responsibility for teenagers. And exactly what is the difference. How good are you at holding your teen accountable? Do they understand exactly what is expected of them (so they can hold themselves responsible).
Helping teens to hold themselves to a higher standard can go a long way in boosting their self-esteem and confidence...and belief in self.

In today's episode we talk about Agreement 4/4: Always Do Your Best; What is meant by that and why it's so important...and such an awesome agreement to make with your self!🙂
Here we talk about how not to take things personally...and why it's so important. It takes practice, but is doable for both parents and teenagers alike!

They might cringe. You might cringe. But, it's time to address the elephant in the room and have a brutally open and honest talk about sex with your teenager. Open the conversation about the physical AND emotional piece of sex, and even the M word. Yikes!
Hi! I'm Renee. As a certified Teen Life Coach and Parent Partner, I can tell you that this conversation MUST happen. Teens talk about sex like it's no big deal (with their friends, that is), as well as learning about stuff on tik tok, google, porn sites, etc. They need to also be having this conversation with you (or another trusted adult).
Are you struggling with your teenager? Reach out! You are not alone, nor do you have to go at it alone. Many parents have no idea that teen life coaching even exists, but it is a powerful modality of support and empowerment. There is no shame or embarrassment in asking for and seeking help. Quite the opposite. It takes strength, which is why when I coach teens, I also partner with you, the parent. So if you are looking for a high touch point of value and support, let's chat.
