The world's leading snooker players join Michael McMullan to reflect on the biggest moments of their careers. Released weekly on Mondays.
The first regular episode of the new snooker season is here, with Mark Watson joined by seven-time World Champion Stephen Hendry and professional player Steven Hallworth to review the Shanghai Masters and look ahead to the rest of the China Swing.
Judd Trump claimed the 45th professional title of his career with an 11-6 victory over Kyren Wilson in Shanghai. Hendry, who commentated on the final session, examines the pivotal frames that helped Trump establish control and explains how the challenging, humid conditions affected both players. The team also discusses Trump’s evolution from an all-out attacking entertainer into one of the most complete tactical players in the game. Hendry believes the world number one may not take as many risks as he once did—but is undoubtedly a far better all-round player.
Attention then turns to the growing strength of Chinese snooker. Hendry explains why Ding Junhui remains the most revered player among supporters in China, despite the emergence of a new generation of potential champions. He also makes a huge prediction for Zhao Xintong, tipping him to win at least four titles this season and as many as four or five World Championships during his career.
The team assess Ronnie O’Sullivan’s latest return to competition after he produced three consecutive centuries before losing to Wilson. Hendry describes the recent story of O’Sullivan’s game as one of “flashes of brilliance coupled with inconsistent form”, while the panel considers whether the Rocket has another Crucible triumph left in him.
There is also praise for Xiao Guodong following his latest maximum break, sparking a debate about whether 147s are becoming less special. Hendry still regards a maximum as one of the most skilful achievements in any sport—but admits their increasing frequency means they are no longer the major talking point they once were.
With the China Open returning for the first time since 2019, the panel examines the draw, the challenges of an extended spell away from home and the importance of the ranking points available in Taiyuan. Hendry explains why being world number one mattered so much during his own career and predicts a close battle between Trump and Zhao for top spot.
Plus, the team tackle another edition of Maximum Break or Totally Fake, answer your questions and calculate approximately how many times Hendry has called a shot “careless” during his commentary career.

With the annual Crucible marathon just days away, Joe Johnson looks back to his extraordinary 1986 World Championship triumph in the new episode of the WST Podcast.
Johnson recalls the moments when he beat Steve Davis in the final, and reflects on how it changed his life forever.
He said: "After the final I went with my wife to the snooker club, there were hundreds of people there to greet us. We were there until about 4.30am then went home. The next morning, about 8am, we heard a tapping on the window. There were press boys, on ladders, knocking on the bedroom window, trying to get pictures through the curtains. We got up and invited everyone into out little house, made them a cup of tea and talked about winning the world title. At that time, everyone in England knew who you were."
Joe O'Connor reflects on the best season of his career so far in the new episode of the WST Podcast.
The Leicester cueman recalls his run to the final of the Scottish Open and also looks ahead to the Cazoo World Championship qualifying rounds which started today.
"It would be a dream to make it to the TV stages, that's the pinnacle of our sport," said world number 30 O'Connor, who is the highest ranked player yet to play at the Crucible. "I have lost in the final round twice, hopefully this time I can make it and finish off an incredible season."
Michael Holt admits that his ambition is to regain a place on the World Snooker Tour, despite the success of his coaching venture, in the new episode of the WST Podcast.
Former Shoot Out champion Holt was relegated from the circuit last year and has since spent much of his time coaching amateur players. "It's going amazing, I have been very flattered by the feedback," he said. "I didn't realise this world was out there, but I can make a living from it. The main goal is to get back on tour, but if I do that I would definitely still keep the coaching going, maybe limiting it to 15 hours a week. I enjoy it. I had been around professionals forever, where everyone is good. I forgot how hard people find snooker. What I've realised is that technique is only five per cent of it. People think they are going to be good if their cue action is like Neil Robertson. But Neil isn't only a good player because he cues well, there's so much more to it. Players get wrapped up in changing things in their technique - I call it the circle of death.
"But I want to get back on the tour because I think I'm still more than good enough, and as long as that's the case I'll keep trying. You're not too old to play in your 40s, as long as your eyes are ok. The best player in the world is 47. If I got back on, my main goal would just be to enjoy it. The biggest tragedy of my career is that I have enjoyed everything except the matches. The matches have been an ordeal for me at times. Even I just get two more years, I would want to enjoy it."
South America's top player Victor Sarkis joins us for the new episode of the WST Podcast.
The Brazilian ace recalls his victory at the 2021 Pan-American Championship with deep emotion, as his father was seriously ill in hospital at the time. Sarkis also reflects on his first few months as a tour pro, and explains why he is sure he will climb into the world's top 64.
Rob Walker sits down with man of the season Mark Allen to look back on his biggest matches at the Crucible and look ahead to this year's Cazoo World Championship.
Oliver Lines reflects on his time as a tour pro in the new episode of the WST Podcast.
Lines discusses his friendship with Judd Trump, his run to the quarter-finals of the 2022 Turkish Masters and the time he played his dad Peter in a ranking event.
Switzerland's top player Alexander Ursenbacher reflects on his outstanding record against Ronnie O'Sullivan in the new episode of the WST Podcast.
Aside from one Championship League defeat, Ursenbacher has won all three of his meetings with World Champion O'Sullivan, at the 2019 Welsh Open, 2020 UK Championship and 2022 British Open.
"After the first time I beat Ronnie, I really started to believe that I can beat anyone if I play well," said the former English Open semi-finalist. "When I drew him again in the UK, I didn't fear him, I just felt this is exciting, to be playing the greatest ever at one of the biggest tournaments. He brings the best mindset out of me because it's the ultimate test. If you are not up for that, I don't know why you are holding a cue."
Former UK Championship semi-finalist David Grace is in the hot seat for the new episode of the WST Podcast.
Grace looks back on his brilliant run to the last four in York back in 2015, as well as his semi-final appearance at the 2020 Northern Ireland Open and his silver medal at the 2009 World Games. The Yorkshireman also discusses his talent for painting portraits of snooker players.
In the new episode of the WST Podcast, Andrew Pagett insists that he could have been a top 32 player if he had dedicated himself to practice during his career.
Looking back on his career on the baize he said: "Everyone around the valley will tell you I'm one of the most talented and gifted players to have picked a cue up. It's all natural with me. If my head is clear and I'm focussed then I take some beating. It's a million per cent that I'm a top 32 player, at least that."
John Parrott, who turned professional 40 years ago, looks back on his 1991 World Championship triumph in the new episode of the WST Podcast.

Jimmy White's perpetual love of snooker is unmistakable as he reveals his three-year plan to compete at the highest level, and looks back on the highs and lows of his extraordinary career, in the new episode of the WST Podcast.
He said: "It's obviously a big ask for me to win the World Championship but if I can keep my game and my mental strength improving then I can do some real damage. Every day I talk to the kid I was in the 1970s and say 'you're not done yet.' If I don't win another tournament, then it won't be for not trying."
White also looks back on his run of six World Championship final defeats in the 1990s and names his worst moment as the 1992 final against Stephen Hendry when he led 14-8 before losing the last ten frames.
Stephen Hendry, one of snooker's all-time greats, looks back on his halcyon days in the new episode of the WST Podcast.
Hendry admits to Michael McMullan that he had mixed emotions when Ronnie O'Sullivan matched his record of seven Crucible crowns last season. He said: "I'm not going to lie, I didn't want Ronnie to equal my record, and I don't want him to beat it. Why would I? But if he does, then fair play. He has taken the game to a new level and he is a wonderful snooker player. But it was also a relief. Maybe not that night - because there was a bit of sadness that he had won a seventh - but after a while it felt as if pressure was lifted from me because he has picked up the mantle now."
Hendry also discusses the current state of his own game, his work as a television commentator and analyst, and the launch of his YouTube channel.
Up-and-coming potter Jackson Page is in the hot seat for the new episode of the WST Podcast.

Up-and-coming potter Jackson Page is in the hot seat for the new episode of the WST Podcast.
The 21-year-old Welshman recalls his fantastic run at the World Championship last year, reaching the last 16 at the Crucible. He also tells Michael McMullan about his friendship with Mark Williams and his ambitions for the future.
The only player to have made 12 centuries at the Crucible but never won a match there is the subject of the new episode of the WST Podcast.
Rookie of the Year in 2014, John Astley went on to reach a ranking event quarter-final in 2016 and knocked Neil Robertson out of the UK Championship in 2021.
He also achieved fame beyond snooker in 2016 when he performed in The Nap, a play with a snooker theme which ran for three weeks at the Crucible. In one scene he had to attempt a century break, and in another he contested the last few balls of the World Championship final.
Astley speaks to Michael McMullan about that experience, and reveals his ambitions on snooker's real stage.
A few days ahead of the Cazoo Masters, Stuart Bingham recalls winning the event in 2020, as well as his many other career highlights, in the new episode of the WST Podcast.

Mark Davis reflects on his longevity on the pro circuit in the new episode of the WST Podcast.
Former English Open finalist Davis is one of only three players, alongside Anthony Hamilton and Mark King, to be ever-present on the tour since 1991 without being relegated.
"I am in a bit of danger this season but I am proud of that record because it's not easy, especially as the standard at the bottom end of the rankings has gone through the roof," said 50-year-old Davis. "I'd like to keep it going for another season or two if I can. When I started out in 1991, if you had said I would still be a pro 31 years later, I wouldn't have believed you. You have times where you hate the game, have horrible defeats and you'd rather be doing anything other than playing snooker. But actually we are privileged to play snooker for a living, all over the world. I appreciate it more now. It has been a massive part of my life and when I stop I will miss it."
Peter Lines recalls the moment he regrets most in his 31-year snooker career, in the new episode of the WST Podcast.
The Leeds cueman casts his mind back to the 1999 China Open in Shanghai, when he played Brian Morgan in the quarter-finals. "At 4-3 up, I had a chance to win, and I tried to fall over the line, instead of doing what top players do and going for the jugular," Lines remembers. "I played a shot which I have regretted ever since. I had a simple red to play for the black, and I tried to play for the blue to make the break easier and made a mess of it. I didn't win the frame (he eventually lost 5-4). Even now, I am absolutely sick, thinking about it. I threw it away.
"If I end my career without winning a ranking event, which is highly likely now, I will be gutted about missing the few chances I have had. I got to the semi-finals of the (2018) Paul Hunter Classic. I had come to terms with the fact that I was never going to win one, but when I lost 4-3 to Kyren Wilson it broke my heart. I don't usually get emotional, but when I came out of the arena and saw my lad walking towards me, I nearly cried. It took me a long time to get over that. I'd be interested to know how many players think they can win tournaments. Because I've never thought I could. I have never been able to see myself standing there holding the trophy, and I don't know why that is."

World number 71 Miah first gained his tour card in 2013 when, at the age of 19, he came through Q School. "There's a huge misconception about turning pro," he told Michael McMullan. "Our dream is to get on to the tour, but that is only five percent of the journey. I was thinking I could have a very good future ahead of me in snooker. You grow up seeing the big names on TV, then all of a sudden you are playing against them. It all happened too fast, I didn't have time for it to soak in."

Robertson recalls his first ranking title in Belgium in 2018, which he describes as "one of the best moments of my life." He also looks back on a severe slump which almost led to relegation from the tour, and his return to form during an excellent 2021/22 season.

The 21-year-old Welshman is playing his first season on the circuit having won the European Under-21 Championship in 2021.
"My objective is just to win as much as I can," Emery tells Michael McMullan. "Maybe winning tournaments. I think it's in the tank. I'm playing well enough in practice and there's no reason why I can't take it out there. I won't settle for anything less because I have dedicated my life to the game since I was at school."

Otherwise I could have still been stuck in my bedroom now. It was bad."
