PS from Angie: Dearest listeners, Apologies for the lateness of this episode, we had some personal family emergency stuff come up and as a result, my stutter makes a wee appearance here. It is too hard to edit out and I am unfortunately too behind in my work to do that, so enjoy my "I-bursting-at-the-seams-with-lateness" stutter. Much love, Angelica

I also talk about the modern celebration of Samhain too. I also said it had been one year since I started doing the Wheel of the Year sabbats, but actually it has been two. (TWO!?!?! In this episode of Centered, Angie answers some of the many questions she has received since her last Q&A episode in May on Astrology! Specifically, she is waxing a bit philosophic about life of life’s terms, being present, reacting vs. responding, sacred pause, being comfortable with being uncomfortable, authenticity and parenting and more. Here are the questions:

1.What is the best practice/stone to NOT shoot your mouth off at work? (seriously)

2.How do you know that you are doing the right thing with your life?

3.As a mother, how do you manage to show up as your authentic self in your business when your day is filled with chaos and managing tiny human’s schedules including your own? Do you have a specific crystal or ritual you do before you start working that helps ground you in the moment and clear your mind to focus on the task at hand?

If you want to ask Angie a question, you can send a voice clip or email to angie@themoonandstone.com or you can send me a voice mail question: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/angie-yingst

Even though I haven't had a drink in a while, I mention this Rosemary Gladstar recipe.

Rosemary Gladstar’s Damiana Chocolate Love Liqueur:

  • 1 ounce damiana leaves (dried)
  • 2 cups vodka or brandy
  • 1 ½ cups spring-water
  • 1 cup honey
  • vanilla extract
  • rose water
  • chocolate syrup
  • almond extract

  • Soak the damiana leaves in the vodka or brandy for 5 days. Strain. Reserve the liquid in a bottle

  • Soak the alcohol-drenched leaves in the spring-water for 3 days. Stain and reserve the liquid

  • Over low heat, gently warm the water extract and dissolve honey in it. Remove the pan from the heat, then add the alcohol extract and stir well. Pour into a clean bottle and add a dash of vanilla and a touch of rose water for flavor. Let it mellow for 1 month or longer; it gets smoother with age

  • To each cup of damiana liqueur, add ½ cup of chocolate syrup, 2 or 3 drops of almond extract, and a touch more of rose water

Recipe from Rosemary Gladstar’s Herbal Recipes for Vibrant Health

Buckle up, Buttercup!

Angie spent a few months dotting her Is and crossing her Ts with this mega-questions from Natalie:

My question is: would you be willing to talk a little bit about astrology?

My questions kind of fall into 3 buckets:

1. Maybe you could give a high-level overview of how you think about and approach astrology, including sun sign versus moon sign versus rising sign.

2. And/or maybe a quick description of each sign. Along with how you characterize them. I suppose this could be a full podcast in its own right. Or maybe even 12 of them lol.

3. And/or how do you incorporate astrology into your readings and your life?

Sure, we could have broke all these questions up and not given you a 1.5 hour podcast, but then you'd have to wait, and Angie spent so much time connecting the dots, telling you the Ancient Greek myths associated with the constellations and zodiac, breaking down each sign, house, placement, etc....so, you don't have to! Take your time and listen. Angie worked hard to make it manageable and understandable for someone who knows nothing about astrology. It is a lot. Angie is a lot. But that is what happens when you ask a Capricorn Sun, Taurus Moon and Gemini Rising to do a little research. Enjoy it!

UPDATE: I was just existing in my home and I was like, "I can't believe I couldn't remember what happens to Ouranos/Uranus' castrated penis!" It gets thrown into the sea and from the sea foam, Aphrodite emerges. (Venus on a half shell, y'all know that one!) So, it didn't become something in the universe. It became the Goddess of Love and Lust. Oooo lala

I am answering questions again. I like to answer questions, so keep them coming. This time I invited Kyra Paules to join me. We exchanged some Marco Polos about it, and then we jumped on Zoom.

Do we do shadow work or does the shadow work us? That is not the question we answer, but we say it at some point. So, Kyra and I thought we would answer some questions about shadow work, but really we only answer one question. Why are we qualified to talk about shadow anything? We like it. Also, Kyra is training to be a Jungian analyst, she is an official shadow retrieval facilitator and a therapist. I am a shamanic practitioner and we basically are shadowy creatures that like to explore the liminal spaces. And I am in recovery and we do shadow work, even though we don't call it that. We call it the fourth and fifth step.

Here are the questions we actually were asked:

Tan - My question is: how do you integrate shadow work? Shadow work gives us breakthroughs and revelations, most of the time I end up not knowing how to integrate it. How do I implement the changes? Sometimes I might even have a glimpse of what I need to do but actually doing it becomes hard. Maybe ego sabotages your missions with laziness or talks you out of it. How can we integrate our shadow in a way we don’t fell into it again?

Beka - yes, break it down on how one can do shadow work, ID your shadows etc.

If you want to find Kyra, go to http://awentarot.com and you can always find me at http://themoonandstone.com

Some show notes:

From my mentor Hibiscus Moon:

Information about Turquoise:

https://hibiscusmooncrystalacademy.com/turquoise-properties/

Great blogpost about Sunflower Medicine from the Sacred Gardener:

https://thesacredgardener.ca/chickadee-teachings-and-sunflower-medicine/

Quoting from this blogpost by Steven Martyn:

"We can also bring Sunflower’s shining radiance to our skin, topically. To make a healing salve, cream or ointment from Sunflower, there is an easy traditional method. I came across this as a Russian practice, but I think it’s likely that every culture that grew this generous being figured this one out because it’s dead easy. The whole heads are used to make an oil; for skin ailments, stiffness and rheumatoid arthritis. Harvest the flower heads as they begin to loose their petals, so seeds have formed on the outside but are also still ripening in the centre, (I also throw in leaves and small young heads in full-petal as well). Break them up a bit and fill a clay, enamel or glass pot with them. Add just enough spring water, so that they will boil down to a mash. If you don’t have spring or well water, then first, leave out an open cloth covered bowl of city water for a couple days. Most of the additives evaporate from the water in that time if there is adequate surface area. Keep the mash on a low simmer for a day or sun-infuse them for a couple sunny days, until the plant material looks visibility sapped. Strain out the plant material with a fine mesh sieve. Of the liquid left, the oil will float to the top. Skim off the oil. Store in cool area, fridge or freezer until you need to use it. The green water part, will make the oil go funky if left in, but has medicine and can be added in as the water portion when making salves or creams. This is not just sunflower oil but a powerful herbal infused liniment, all in one. Ready to rub, or be added as an oil into salve mixture. Truly a miracle plant."

In this episode, I talk to Alison Truitt about introverts & spirituality. Alison and I decided to explore this topic today, talking about being an introvert, a highly sensitive person or an empath and our spiritual journey. I really wanted to have a conversation about this topic, because those of us in the spiritual realms often talk about the power of community and circles, but this is not everyone’s comfort zone. Many of us introverts are solitary practitioners and practice our own religious or spiritual practices that are separate from organized religions. So, I wanted to ask Alison: What is circle like as an introvert? What is your practice like? We also explored the tarot archetype of the Hermit, the introvert’s guide in a spiritual world. Alison writes at her blog the Hermit’s Handicrafts at wordpress  and she sells beautiful jewelry, malas and artwork around the journey of pregnancy, motherhood and beyond at her Etsy shop the Hermit’s handicrafts. Hope you enjoy this episode of Centered.

Today’s conversation is with one of my closest friends Jess Southwood. Unlike my other guests who work in the realm of spirituality, Jess is a Business consultant and facilitator, with a particular focus on leadership development, team dynamics and creativity in business. But honestly, I didn’t invite her to talk to me about her work, though it is fascinating and has taken her all over the world. I didn’t invite Jess to talk because she loves yoga and writing and poetry. I invited Jess here because we share something in common—we are both bereaved mothers. We “met” in 2009, after our second daughters were stillborn. I wanted to talk to Jess about sisterhood, spiritual bonding, emotional intimacy, grieving publicly, and you know, dead babies. We say that quite a bit in this episode. We talk about it bluntly, like you find in the community of grieving women on the internet. There is a whole community. Most people who have never lost a child have no idea there is a corner of the internet where women talk about the death of their baby—over and over again. We write stories and exchange emails and have an entire community of bereaved mothers and fathers. Jess is an extraordinary woman. I feel so blessed to have her as one of my best friends. As you can hear from our conversation, she is deeply thoughtful, funny, intelligent, self-aware and interesting. Jess’ s first collection of poetry can be found at littlelosses.com. She has a Masters degree in Shakespeare Studies from the Shakespeare Institute in Stratford-upon-Avon. She lives in Birmingham, UK, with her husband, three children, two cats, one dog, and too many books. I hope you enjoy my conversation with Jess Southwood.
