Today, we are lucky to have Ben Orlando on the podcast! Ben Orlando is a Therapist, a Podcaster, an Educator, a Writer, and an incredible human being. He received his MFA in Creative Writing from Eastern Washington University and his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pittsburgh.

Using podcasts as the medium to express his creativity, Ben Orlando started a podcast called “History Repeating Itself.” In it, he and his co-host, Michelle, uncover the connections between the past and the present, making predictions based on historical patterns and cultural trends.

However, he rediscovered his buried passion for baseball when he started reading fiction novels about it over the summer. Ben traveled back to the good old days of collecting baseball cards and hanging baseball posters on the walls. This led him to create another podcast called “Midnight Library of Baseball.”

As a sport-thusiast, I have been binge-listening and enjoying the calm, chill vibe of his show. Whether you play baseball, are an avid fan, or have a curious itch about this sport, this is the perfect podcast for you!

In this The Ripple Effect Podcast episode, Ben and I took the plunge into the world of baseball by discussing “Field of Dreams,” a 1989 movie based on the novel Shoeless Joe by W.P. Kinsella. The story follows Ray, an Iowa farmer who builds a baseball diamond in his cornfield after hearing a voice say, “If you build it, he will come.” This leads to the emergence of legendary baseball players' ghosts to play the game.

As Ben and I went deep into the “Field of Dreams” rabbit hole, we conversed about family, relationships, and the importance of connecting with your own feelings.

This is something you shouldn't miss!

When you doubt whatever you do and put it out there for the world to know, those doubts are self-fulfilling prophecies. Do you know why? Because there is truth in advertising. What you sell to yourself and the world, that's what they'll buy and believe.

Some people call it "manifestation," and others call it the "Law of Attraction," but it all boils down to the idea that positive or negative thoughts bring positive or negative experiences into a person's life. I agree with that.

Not everything is set in stone, but it influences how you act and how others perceive you.

This topic is inspired by someone I know from a while back and reconnected with recently. Who would've thought that a conversation over caramel macchiato would change someone's life?

This episode is brimming with true-to-life stories that demonstrate the power of your thoughts and words. Watch out for these stories! I won't go into too much detail here. Relax, grab a cup of coffee, and listen to the full episode.

I still can't believe we're now on the 9th season of The Ripple Effect Podcast. Whether you're new to this channel or a proud Rippler since day one, I can't thank you enough for being here. This is not false advertising! I truly am grateful.

Our special guest today will make you rethink what women can do and achieve in a male-dominated field, specifically in the construction space. She will surely hook you with her witty responses, empower you with her strong personality, and inspire you with her relatable story.

Ladies and gentlement, meet Maggie Kuyper, the co-founder of Harpeth Painting LLC, a construction business in Nashville, Tennessee. It hasn’t been an easy climb to success. While significant progress has been made over the past few decades, women continue to face challenges that hinder their full participation. Maggie unapologetically unveils the truth about unfair stereotypes and the adversities women face in male-centered industries.

Maggie had been an educator for ten years before bravely venturing into the world of business with her husband and their hard-earned savings.

We got the opportunity to listen to Maggie’s story today because she was connected to me by her dad, Dr. Jeff Cornwall. He is an entrepreneurial mastermind and passionate educator. In case you didn’t know, I also got to interview Jeff in a recent Inspired Speaker Series video in The Pond. It was a conversation filled with wisdom about the ins and outs of the business field. He let that entrepreneurial mind shine through!

For women out there who are having second thoughts about bringing their business ideas to life, this episode will give you the empowerment that you need.

This series is presented by Ripple Central (www.ripplecentral.com) and Owner Insite (www.owner-insite.com).

When there are too many tabs or applications opened, a computer tends to hang. Just like computers, your brain experiences the same thing. Cognitive overload or info paralysis happens when you take in too much information than your brain can handle. In today’s media circus, your brain works double-time to separate what’s important from unimportant, the facts from fiction.

Fake news runs rampant in social media, especially now that the elections are dwindling. It would help to be extra vigilant about the information you see and believe in. You need to be aware of suspicious accounts spreading misinformation and trolling. You should seek facts from reliable sources only.

We are all in luck because today, we have Chuck Salter, the President and CEO at The News Literacy Project as our special guest for The Ripple Effect Podcast!

The News Literacy Project or NLP is a non-profit organization founded in 2008 that aims to teach media literacy to the next generation, so they can go out into the world as well-informed, critical thinkers. The NLP not only helps students but also educators.

With years of experience working in the education sector and fighting for a future founded on facts, Chuck Salter touched on various important topics about disinformation and news literacy. Growing up in a family with a military background, his parents instilled the sense of being of service to people. Chuck took those values as he grew up and made it his life’s mission to combat the spread of fake and biased information.

A special thanks to Lorenza Muñoz for this Ripple! I really enjoyed this interview and conversation. I’m talking to an EXPERT here!

I’m looking forward to more positive Ripples in the future. Lorenza Muñoz has been a guest speaker on The Ripple Effect Podcast a few months ago, and that episode was amazing! If you still haven’t watched it, it’s time: https://youtu.be/Ui19m7oTEqM

In this episode of The Ripple Effect Podcast, Steve dives into the importance of embracing imperfection and understanding that sometimes, "good enough" is exactly what you need to make progress. We often get caught up in the pursuit of perfection, letting fear of not being flawless hold us back. But Steve reminds us that waiting for everything to be perfect can stall our momentum. Instead, focusing on making steady progress, even when things aren’t perfect, can create powerful ripples in your life and the lives of others. Steve talks Star Wars, connection points and just how different the universe might have been had he been the Chosen One and asked to sit next to The Emperor AKA George Lucas. This fun solo (as in Han) episode is like an exploration of the cave on The Dagoba System (Yoda's swampy home) except it's scarier. Because you look into the deep crevices of Steve's Star Wars influenced mind and that is way scarier than facing Darth Vader.

I was so honored to interview former L.A. Times reporter and Amazon MGM executive Lorenza Muñoz in this episode of The Ripple Effect Podcast. Lorenza is an incredible entrepreneur on a mission to create connection, community and collaboration together to create even bigger Ripples in the world.

Connecting as human beings is in our evolutionary nature. It is fundamental to our human experience and essential for flourishing. Obviously, this is not news. Communities throughout history have gathered around fires, told stories, bonded, reflected on spiritual needs–together.

But these societal norms have slowly been eroding for a variety of reasons. Community seemed like it was much easier to find only a few decades ago, whether it was through religious institutions or neighborhood gatherings or long held traditions. The lingering trauma of COVID isolation we all experienced, the distraction of social media that seeks to replace in person connection with a virtual one have made the need for connection urgent. As human beings, we need to socialize in order to understand our connection to the world around us.

The premise behind Artemis Muse Productions is threefold:

•Bring back the concept of community–live and in person.

•Catalyze groups and individuals around issues, themes, art or ideas through vibrant gatherings and discussions.

•Advance company or individual business initiatives and ideas through curated gatherings.

Artemis Muse is a connector-catalyst, ready to spread ideas, to create experiences that light up our emotional, artistic needs and to instigate change.

INSPIRATION:

Salons: Back in the 17th and 18th Century, Salons were held (mostly led by women) in Paris and other European cities to discuss ideas, science and politics. These women were friends with the artists and writers and intellectuals. Some were patrons of the arts. But mostly, they provided exposure to artists and thinkers and served as catalysts for some of the radical ideas that led to the Enlightenment.

Harlem Renaissance: The cradle of Black intellectual and artistic thought. A movement that continues to reverberate today with its thought leaders like Langston Hughes, W.E.B. Du Bois, Zora Neale Hurston and others blazing a path for Black influence, thought and art. Georgia Douglas Johnson, a poet and writer who hosted the S Street Salon in Washington DC, was particularly influential. Her Saturday Nighters were legendary gatherings where women’s rights were discussed, anti-lynching action was hatched and literary minds expanded in a supportive, safe environment.

Mexico City: My personal inspiration came through osmosis. Within my own family, there were salons hosted by my Great Aunt (affectionately called Toe). She was a maverick for her time and place, deciding not to marry and instead to follow her own career path in Mexican society. For nearly two decades, Toe held court in her beautiful apartment overlooking Mexico City with writers, intellectuals, bankers, artists and thought leaders. My grandmother also developed and cultivated community. For nearly 70 years, she was at the center of a group of women (jokingly) called “Las Intocables,” or “The Untouchables.” They were a fearsome group of 12 or so women who were best friends and saw each other through life and all of its changes, rituals, happy moments and tragedies. They were also the group to know for any woman hoping to enter into the tight knit world of Cuernavaca, a city about 1 hour south of Mexico City that became a weekend destination and globally renown resort town.

I learned about community through my family, but I began to nurture and lead community gatherings professionally during my time as the head of member relations and awards of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. When I arrived in 2015, my mandate was to create outreach and opportunities for the members to feel more connected to each other and the institution. We needed to find ways to open up the membership to more women and underrepresented groups who, historically, had not been invited. We needed to create events and gatherings that brought together our members several times a year–not just through the Oscars. We were successful in creating the first ever annual gathering of female members in Los Angeles, New York, London and other cities–complete with a grant award for female filmmakers. We ushered in a new era of inclusivity, with the organization’s Board of Governors becoming more diverse in gender, race and ethnicity than ever before–nearly 50% female by 2020 compared to less than 10% in 2015 among many other accomplishments. It was at the Academy that I realized that no matter how rich or how famous you might be, a sense of belonging, of feeling seen and valued, is essential for any human being.

You may recognize Melissa Knowles from her time on The Morning Express with Robin Meade on HLN, or her many times anchoring for CNN. Or maybe, you remember her from the Live Free or Die Hard movie with Bruce Willis. She stole the show on that one, in my opinion.

I have been a fan of Melissa Knowles for as long as she's been gracing our television and movie screens. Maybe it's her incredibly positive energy or her amazing sense of humor that first got my attention. But it is her good heart and her amazing soul which just radiates from her that kept me watching.

Melissa is one of those people you can't help but feel uplifted by. As she graces our Instagram and TikTok feeds (follow her @knowlesitall) feeds, she is a shining example of someone who goes out of her way to create a positive Ripple in the world. She's honest. She's direct. She's funny as Hell. And she will probably make you wish you had worked out just a little bit harder (Soul Cycle, can you just make my girl your spokesmodel already?) and had that extra something something of whatever she takes in the morning to vibrate at some high level.

I am deeply honored she agreed to come on The Ripple Effect Podcast. I am a huge fan not because she's famous but because she is a good person and a Rippler through and through. I could not wait to have this conversation with her.

But how she and her husband are making a difference now in their own lives now will serve as a bit of wake-up call for us all to get off the couch and start doing something.

For Kathleen, that's winning national tennis titles at the age of 75 - a sport she only recently picked up competitively. But that's not all she's into, as she'll share in this inspiring episode.

The grit and determination Kathleen has will assuredly inspire you as it has me. She was such a hoot to have on the show and I am so very grateful to call her a friend!

Fun story. We featured Christin Collin's amazing TED Talk for our Connect + Grow Ripple Coaching Membership recently. I selected her talk for our members because I was enamoured with Christin's energy and beautiful talk. So naturally I thought our members would benefit greatly from her message and decided to feature it for our monthly TED Ripple session.

Boy was I right! Our members couldn't stop talking about how much they took from her talk. So much so, I thought she needed to know. I decided to create a Ripple and reach out to her - just to let her know how much her message was appreciated by us all.

What I found in receipt of my effort was an even warmer, more inviting Christin inviting me to engage and share more. Well, of course, we talked and I just knew she needed to be on the podcast. So I swung for the fences and invited her. And spoiler alert, she agreed!

Christin is everything you'd ever hope to experience in someone who is out to change the world. Her personal struggles and mission to educate herself and her clients has resulted in a completely new career path for her and if you ask me, she's focusing on the work she was always destined to do.

Here's a little snippet (borrowed from her LinkedIn) that instantly tells you who Christin is at her core:

When we know ourselves, we unlock true happiness and freedom. And the best part - the answers for self-love and care lie inside of all of us. My purpose is to inspire an awakening within. The foundational insights of knowing and loving oneself have been shaped by my role as a health care executive and my personal healing experience. I hope they help you be your BEST YOU, fully connected with yourself and your universe. be. love. CC Learn more about Christin's work at: christincollins.com and be sure to watch her TEDx Talk

I discovered Lauren Bateman a while ago. Let's just say Instagram is way smarter than I am and fortunately dropped her amazing guitar lessons in my feed. She was engaging so I kept watching. Before long, I was watching her Youtube videos and well...you could say I was hooked. As much for the guitar knowledge, Lauren was dropping as her personality. She is just plain cool.

I was so honored she agreed to be a part of The Ripple Effect Podcast. Check out Lauren on Youtube and her website at laurenbatement.com

More on Lauren:

As a childhood cancer survivor, Lauren knows the importance of living in the moment. That's why she quit her job at 27 to pursue a career in music. That decision changed her life forever.

Without a degree in music or teaching, Lauren has become a worldwide sensation teaching guitar to students all over the world. Her YouTube channel has over 330,000 subscribers and growing. Lauren teaches students that the most important thing is to have fun. That it doesn't matter how old or talented you, but rather your desire to play that makes you a better guitar player and student.

I was so excited that Coach Birmingham agreed to come on the podcast. I have been a big fan of his as he is a legend in college baseball. I just knew if we could have an opportunity to visit, he'd share some of the incredible wisdom he's acquired throughout his career and boy was a right. This episode is pure gold and is chalked full of great stories about motivating and leading that everyone can learn from.

Plus he is just one of the kindest and most thoughtful men I think I've ever met. Although I knew him through his social network presence, the conversation with him was so easy to have. He made me feel like he and I have been friends for years. He's a Rippler through and through.

Here's a bit more about Coach:

At UNM, Birmingham has the second-most wins in program history with 402 to his credit as the Lobo skipper, earning his 400th DI Career win on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2021 versus Air Force. He also initiated and had led the ongoing development and execution of the $3.65 million expansion of Santa Ana Star Field as well as UNM’s first privately-funded building on campus – the R.D. and Joan Dale Hubbard Clubhouse that was completed in December of 2016.

For his overall career, Birmingham is in exclusive company having won over 1,000 games. Entering the 2021 season, Birmingham will have coached in parts of six decades dating back to the late 1970s. Birmingham is also the winningest coach in the state’s history as all 1,220 of his victories have come coaching for teams in his home state of New Mexico (College of the Southwest, New Mexico Junior College and UNM).

In 2015, Birmingham was inducted into the New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame and was also inducted into the NJCAA Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2011. He also currently serves on the College Baseball Hall of Fame Selection Committee.

Birmingham has also coached or spoken at numerous clinics throughout the United States and South America. He has been published in the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Journal and worked professionally for the Cleveland Indians, Oakland A’s and Kansas City Royals.

In 2004, Birmingham led the NJCAA all-star team to four wins in five games over the Chinese All-Stars in Beijing, China. In 2007, Birmingham was selected as the head coach of the NJCAA all-star team when China returned to the United States to play the U.S. team. Birmingham also coached the NJCAA West All-Stars to a three-game sweep over the East All-Stars in the summer of 2009.

In the summer of 2014, Birmingham served as the hitting coach for USA Baseball’s Collegiate National Team, which was made up of the top collegiate players from around the country. Team USA played games across North Carolina before traveling to the Netherlands to participate in Honkbal-Haarlem Baseball Week. The CNT won the international tournament by outscoring its opponents 34-6 over its final seven games. Birmingham helped guide Tennessee’s Christin Stewart to “Best Hitter” honors at the tournament and Albuquerque’s own Alex Bregman of LSU was named Honkbal Baseball Week MVP. Team USA concluded its summer with five games in Cuba, finishing with an overall record of 18-8-2.

In his 43rd year of coaching, Birmingham has been a part of 22 championships. All the college baseball programs Birmingham has coached have reached the top 25 in the national rankings at some point. Between University of the Southwest, New Mexico Junior College and New Mexico, 167 athletes have gone on to play professional baseball with 39 coming while the head coach at UNM. Additionally, under Birmingham at UNM, 40 athletes have earned All-America honors and 10 have been freshman All-Americans as well. Ann Fry is a very special person to me, and I am so grateful to have had this opportunity to interview her for the show. She is in the fight of her life yet still shows all the wit and wisdom I've come to admire and love all these years.

Battling early-onset dementia, Ann has recently had to retire from the work she has loved for so many years. But that spark she is so known for is still there. Her deep desire to make a difference and continue pushing you to be the best version of yourself is very evident and is on full display during our time together.

Ann and I met during my early days of consulting and coaching. She sized me up pretty quickly recognizing I was lacking confidence and struggling to believe I had anything worthwhile to share with the world. She and I met for the first time outside an event I had just spoken at, and she sensed I had more to give. There was more inside my message than I was actually sharing due to my insecurity.

Ann being Ann, couldn't let that stand. She took me aside and though expressed gratitude for my message, told me she could tell I was not being my full self up on stage. I had more to give and the world needed to see it. They longed to see it. This gave me so much confidence and a new perspective to stop trying to be something I was not. If I were going to make a difference, well, I needed to be me and let the chips fall where they will.

Her advice and support gave me so much confidence and I was truly grateful for her willingness to be open and honest with me. She was a gift to me as she has been to so many of her students, clients, and friends.

Ann is retired, but you can still follow her at: facebook.com/ann.fry.94, and you can still purchase one of several books she has authored by contacting her through Facebook.

Sandy Stewart is someone that has always impressed me. We met shortly after the release of my book and we just clicked. We had similar views on what it takes to be a strong leader, build a successful company and build something more than just about the money. I admire her greatly because she's a no-nonsense kind of person who will tell like it is. She probably gets that from her West Texas upbringing.

She's a true badass and someone I deeply admire. Even more, after hearing the trials and tribulations she's gone through these past few years. To see her confident, focused, and ready to create bigger and bigger Ripples is inspiring. And let's just be honest, you can't help but love that sweet southern twang and her laser focus drive to change the world. It's intoxicating.

Here's a bit about Sandy and her latest venture:

Sandy Stewart is the creator and founder of Think Big, an outsourced sustainability support and training program for small- and mid-sized businesses. Her twenty-two-year career helping SMBs and SMEs grow value now has an added focus on what’s known as the triple bottom line (people, planet, and profits). She believes that companies that care for their people, their customers, and their community have a duty to run a profitable, thriving business.

She’s a speaker, trainer, author, social impact strategist, carbon footprint specialist, value growth expert, and her current volunteer work includes Past President & VP/Treasurer for Tapestry Dance in Austin, TX and founder & Membership Chair for NAWBO Austin.

The most amazing connections come from some of the least expected opportunities we experience in life. Just like the unlikely heroes we read about in stories and mythology, the impossible becomes possible.

Such was the random comment I made one day to my friend Ted Rubin (Season 8, Episode 5), as he shared some of his musings about a ski vacation he was having with a friend he met by chance some thirty years earlier on Instagram. These two friends were clearly having a blast and I was enjoying the snippets of check-ins being posted by Ted about their ski trip together.

One of these posts caught my attention, specifically when Ted recorded a video coming down into the lodge to find his friend. He said something like, "There's Ben, snuggled away in the corner, thinking and writing again."

There was something about the intensity of his friend sitting there in the corner in that video that really caught my attention. It was as if he spoke to me at that moment. So, of course, I asked what he was writing to which Ted replied, "Who knows but with Ben, it's sure to be interesting. You'd like Ben, he's a deep thinker."

Ted was right. I not only like Ben Dennis, but I have become fascinated with how this man thinks, tells a story and looks at the world and his place in it. He has a calming, almost meditative spirit about him that washes over you. I found myself wishing our conversation could go on forever because he just has a way that inspires me. I know if you listen to this whole podcast, he will do the same for you as well.

A little more about Ben:

Ben is a mythologist and writer cultivating an ongoing life-long love of story, myth, and psychology. He is passionately involved in ritual, rites of passage, psychodrama, and storytelling. His mythic interests include Greek mythology, Native American story, European Fairy tales, and Hindu epic literature. He has a wide variety of experience having worked in diverse fields such as commercial fishing, construction, and Investment Banking, and a veteran of the U. S. Air Force. Ben is a retired 28-year veteran Fire Fighter in Seattle where he served as a member of the Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) team. Ben has been adjunct faculty at Antioch University Seattle and holds his PhD in Mythological Studies with an Emphasis in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute.

Ben has participated in and led a variety of workshops and conferences. He has assisted and taught at the Minnesota Men’s Conference as a featured Storyteller since 2013. He has also been a featured storyteller and teacher with Veteran’s groups dedicated to addressing “the emotional, moral, and spiritual wounds of veterans, their families and communities.” Over the past 20-years Ben has facilitated rites of passage events for young men, mentored in the workplace and in his community, and offers storytelling and drum making classes.

“With a life-long fascination in literature, myth, and story I recognize that teaching is a vital part of individual growth, community support, resiliency, and understanding the community we live in. I believe it is crucial to engage the imagination in startling and fresh ways. We each have survived and thrived countless generations through oral tradition, self-reliance, dedication to community, and the archetypal desire to share what we have learned with future generations. My intention is to learn and teach in whatever way I am able.”

Carol Costello is one the most authentic and trusted journalists in the modern era. Watching her conduct an interview is like a masterclass in how it should be done. Her warm and inviting presence always made her guests comfortable and willing, to tell the truth - no matter how difficult or sensitive the topic happens to be.

I swear, she is either Wonder Woman in disguise or was gifted her very own "Lasso of Truth" by her. She's that good at getting real, truthful answers from whomever she might be interviewing.

I've been a huge fan of Carol's for as long as I remember, and I still can't believe she said yes to come onto the show. She tells it like it is, and honestly, in a way we all need to hear it. Gosh, how I miss seeing her on television every day.

But she's creating even bigger RIpples today. Helping the next generation of journalists learn to think for themselves, question everything and pursue the facts, not simply strive for the likes, the views, or the notoriety. Why? Because journalists should never be part of the story. The good ones know how to tell it so that we understand and, hopefully, learn from it.

To that end, I am grateful to know people like Carol are out there shaping the hearts and minds of our future journalists.

Carol's Bio:

Carol Costello is an award-winning journalist and former anchor and

core mission is to discover ways to ease the partisan divide in our country.

Carol also serves on the journalism professional advisory board at Kent
State University in Ohio and is a mentor to its journalism students.

In 2001, Carol joined CNN as an anchor on “Headline News.” From 2002 to
2009, she anchored “Daybreak,” the network’s former early morning news
program. And from 2012 to 2018 she anchored “Newsroom.” She also sub-
anchored and was a political reporter for “The Situation Room.” Carol

I am so honored to Ripple with American Ninja Warrior Angela Gargano. You would be hard-pressed to find a kinder entrepreneur than Angela. Her story is so inspiring!

Here are a few takeaways from Angela in this episode:

  1. An injury can lead to a low state and loss of identity, but it can also provide an opportunity for growth and new opportunities. It is important to feel emotions but not get stuck in them.
  2. To get started with fitness, start with the basics and work with a coach who motivates you.
  3. Lifestyle is important to consider when growing a business. Focusing on what you want and how to serve clients while living a fulfilling life is important.
  4. The ripple effect means that one action can positively impact many other areas of life.
  5. Sharing positive messages and offering reassurance can make a difference in someone's life and help them achieve their goals.

Check out Angela's Youtube @AngelaGarganoFitness or her website: angela-gargano.com and of course, don't forget to follow her on Instagram @angela_gargano

Angela's BIO:

Angela Gargano is a fierce athlete, coach, international fitness model, and speaker. Before becoming a full-time multi-passionate entrepreneur, Angela worked as a biochemist at Brown University. Since throwing in the lab coat and goggles in 2013 to open her own gym in Cranston, Rhode Island, Angela has truly lived multiple lives in the athletic and entrepreneurial space, defying odds and setbacks to become an authentic and relatable voice to the public eye.

Angela has now competed on American Ninja Warrior 5x, won the Title of Miss Fitness America 2016, and created an online fitness empire for women called Strong Feels Good, where she teaches women to ditch the scale and focus on strength and feeling as a way to measure progress. She has also helped over 500 women conquer their pull-ups with her online program, Pull-up Revolution. In summer 2021, Angela appeared all over the world as the Oxygen Magazine Covergirl, where she spoke about tearing her ACL on the Ninja Warrior course and coming back 11 months later stronger than ever.

Angela is a huge advocate for speaking about body image, as she was made fun of growing up for her “manly” arms and build. She would hide in a sweatshirt daily at school to avoid being made fun of, and was rejected by many fitness modeling agencies. But this didn't stop Angela from now having 3 magazine covers and becoming an international fitness model in some of the world's biggest publications: Women’s Health, Shape, Strong Fitness Magazine, and Popsugar Fitness.

Angela is strong, both mentally and physically, and she teaches you to love the body you are in. She is real, relatable, approachable, and down-to-earth. With Angela, there is fun and smiles, and there is grit, determination, and sweat. She is easy to understand and great to work with.

Angela’s mission is to revolutionize the way people feel about their bodies through identifying their inner strength and embracing the powerful body and mind that they have been gifted.

Her vision? To continue to expand the Strong Feels Good Community, speak at large events to spread her message and work with conscious, authentic brands who feel the same - the ones who truly want to help and impact the lives of their end consumer.

This interview would never have happened if Suzy and I had not connected first at a conference. It started with a simple hello but pretty quickly escalated from there into full-on Rippling. To say we hit it off and became fast friends would be an understatement.

Suzy is the founder of Soulshine Rhythm Experience, and she is quite literally changing lives with her joyful way of teaching music to anyone who will listen. She works with people in recovery, senior centers, hospice patients, and anyone and everyone to help them find their own internal rhythm. Through her monthly drum circles, she has brought thousands of people together to connect with something deep inside of each of us, something primal and hardwired.

Spend just a few minutes listening to her passion and you will be as hooked as I am. It's probably why I've invited Suzy to lead our Ripple Membership through a monthly drum lesson as part of our offering. These respites from life's stresses can transform someone's mood, attitude, and outlook on life. I, for one, recently rewatched one of her lessons when I was stuck on a creative problem, and let's just say she helped me find the drum beat of my creativity and helped me finish a project in record time.

She's amazing, and I know you will love her just as much as I do.

Do you know that Cameron Crowe movie, "Almost Famous"? Well, let's just say the movie could have literally been inspired by Elise Krentzel. Her quest to cover the rock band KISS during the Japan leg of their tour is nothing short of fascinating. The Ripples of her adventure will capture your imagination, tickle your inner hero and leave you wishing you had the guts or chutzpah to follow your passion, live your dreams and break some hearts along the way.

Steve was so excited to have Elise stop by The Ripple Effect podcast during her promotional tour for her latest book "Under My Skin: Drama, Trama & Rock & Roll"and boy did they have some fun! Friends for a number of years, Steve and Elise have only met once, in person, a fact they figure out during their interview. But they are a living testament to the fact friendship has no bounds and that it can in fact be built via social media. Which is ironic, since they both live in Austin. A fact that isn't lost on either of them.

This is a fun, but very "adult" conversation about Elise's amazing journey, her lessons learned, and the way she hopes it all inspires us all to chase our dreams and smile and laugh while we do it.

I was so honored to interview my friend and fellow blogger and true Rippler, Melissa Lombard. Melissa is one of those people that the world needs more of. Her enthusiasm, her smile, and her gentle kindness just make everyone who knows her better spinning in her orbit.

Check out melissalombard.com and check out all the amazing people she interviewed with her Coffee with Stranger series.

Here is Melissa's BIO in her own words!

Melissa Lombard

Every week, for almost three years, I enjoyed a conversation and a cup of coffee with a stranger and wrote about it here. The project, called Coffee With A Stranger, was absolutely the most incredible thing I’d ever done!

The project was on hold for six months as my husband and I enjoyed a foreign adventure running a bed and breakfast in rural Costa Rica. I blogged about that, if you’re interested. If I had to sum up the experience, I’d say it was sort of like Pioneer Woman meets Survivor. If you want to get the back story, check out this post. If you have questions, you might find the answer here.

During the Coffee With A Stranger project, we lived in Austin, TX and my husband and I ran a real estate company called Lombard Home Team – which was a Keller Williams affiliate. We were blessed with an abundance of great clients who turned into great friends.

Today, you will find us about 1500 miles north of Austin, in the beautiful city of Minneapolis. I was born here in MN and after 14 years away, it was time to be closer to home and family. My Texan husband Dave has adjusted nicely to the MN winters and though he hasn’t traded “y’all” for “you guys”, I’m pretty sure I overheard him say “heck yeah” the other day. And not mockingly either.

Never big on doing the same thing twice, I traded in my residential real estate blazer (OK, they don’t really give you a blazer, but they totally should) became a Commercial Broker Associate with a commercial real estate company and then landed my dream job, running a Keller Williams real estate firm. I spent my days asking lots of questions, teaching and coaching the very best real estate agents imaginable. There probably isn’t a job better suited for me. And yet, coming late summer 2022, there will be an new adventure! So stay tuned for that developing story!

We all have been in those situations where someone has attacked as us. Maybe they mischaracterize something you've said. Maybe they've outright lied about your intentions. Maybe they are calling into question your integrity.

How we respond in the moment is almost as important as to how we process it in private. Conflict is inevitable in both family, work and personal life. But understanding how to not give away all of your power and let your ego take over is hard.

We dive into this very juicy topic as Steve shares a very personal situation he is going through right now. His perspective and his approach may just save you some heartache next time you find yourself faced with a similar situation.

The prize a portable black and white Sony television which was the coolest thing I had ever seen. I knew the odds were stacked against me to win it, but man I wanted it.

He gave me a chance but ended up giving me so much more.

This was such a fun insightful interview with hollywood actor and real estate power broker, Jessalyn Wanlim. Jessalyn first started acting in ABC's soap opera All My Children and has since then amassed an impressive list of film and television roles. She played Evie Cho in Orphan Black and most recently stars as Jenny Matthews on Netflix's hit series Workin' Moms.

Jessalyn describes herself as a sassy, spunky human being and I can tell you she's all that and then some. She was so much fun to talk to.

Here's a few highlights:

  • She grew up around Baskin-Robbins
  • Moved away from home at the age of twelve to pursue dancing Attended The Julliard School
  • Hopes one day play her own made up superhero Awesome Spider (think Spider-Man or Spider-Woman only better)
  • Is a real estate broker in addition to acting. Why? Because she's a "Workhorse. I was born to work."
  • Has a big heart and would love to be building homes for the homeless
  • One of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet.

It's funny but if you look back over the last few years how your perspective of what success should look like has probably shifted. For me, my dream since I was in high school, was to make the cover of Inc. Magazine as if that would somehow show my dad, the world I had done something amazing. Until yesterday, I suppose I was still using that barometer of success a little bit to define when I'd finally made it.

Then I woke up to my present reality. I'll never likely make the cover of that magazine or any other magazine for that matter and you know what? That's okay.

I'm healthy. My family is healthy. I'm happy. My family is happy. I am grateful for so much, especially now with so much uncertainty in the world.

That's what success means to me. Not some cover of a magazine.

My success lies in the legacy I'm building through Ripple and that is good enough.

Most people don't know because they don't ask. Then they scratch their head wondering why a customer leaves or they passed over for a promotion or worse yet, they get the unexpected pink slip.

Feedback when ask for it show you are committed and focused on being there and delivering the very best of your skills and abilities. It's a powerful but revealing exercise that can help you overcome your blind spots.
