Join your host, Larry Burns as he takes an in-depth look at the role higher education plays in today's society. Each edition of "The Relevant University" examines specific areas of academia, and the ways they are evolving to produce candidates empowered with viable skill sets.
Tonight we address a topic that many have heard about but few know its prevalence in our society. Human Trafficking has been described as modern-day slavery and in the Midwest we are certainly not immune.
This evening our guests give us an inside look presenting the problems but also recommending solutions.

Thomas Gutteridge Senior Vice Provost and Interim Dean of the College of Social Justice and Human Service at The University of Toledo His research and teaching interests include career development human resources management and laborindustrial relations. He has been published many times in these areas. Celia Williamson. Professor of social work and Director of the Human Trafficking and Social Justice Institute at The University of Toledo. And later in our program Teresa Fedor will join us. Representative Fedorrsquos work in the Ohio House of Representatives includes a penalty enhancement for human trafficking and creating a task force to study the problem.
Putting a price tag on higher education is a difficult task. Throughout the country universities and colleges are under a microscope when it comes to funding. Federal and state governments are contributing different amounts to higher education and the debate on this trend is at an all-time high.

As colleges and universities across the United States strive to increase enrollment year after year recruitment and admission of students is essential. This is true whether itrsquos in the backyard of an institution a couple hoursrsquo drive away or on an international stage. International recruiting has increased significantly in the last few years within higher education. Admissions offices often have a unique team of staff to focus just on international students. The integration creates an environment optimal for experiential learning.
