What exactly does Ephesians 5:22 “Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord” mean? This verse has been distorted and used to abuse women, but what was Paul really trying to say to wives? Could there be a greater freedom on the other side of this troublesome word?

In this message, Pastor Whit George talks about the reality, nature, and benefit of submission.

Pastor Whit continues our teaching series, Ruth: Ruth 3v1-18 1 Then Naomi her mother-in-law said to her, “My daughter, should I not seek rest for you, that it may be well with you? 2 Is not Boaz our relative, with whose young women you were? See, he is winnowing barley tonight at the threshing floor. 3 Wash therefore and anoint yourself, and put on your cloak and go down to the threshing floor, but do not make yourself known to the man until he has finished eating and drinking. 4 But when he lies down, observe the place where he lies. Then go and uncover his feet and lie down, and he will tell you what to do.” 5 And she replied, “All that you say I will do.” 6 So she went down to the threshing floor and did just as her mother-in-law had commanded her. 7 And when Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of grain. Then she came softly and uncovered his feet and lay down. 8 At midnight the man was startled and turned over, and behold, a woman lay at his feet! 9 He said, “Who are you?” And she answered, “I am Ruth, your servant. Spread your wings over your servant, for you are a redeemer.” 10 And he said, “May you be blessed by the Lord, my daughter. You have made this last kindness greater than the first in that you have not gone after young men, whether poor or rich. 11 And now, my daughter, do not fear. I will do for you all that you ask, for all my fellow townsmen know that you are a worthy woman. 12 And now it is true that I am a redeemer. Yet there is a redeemer nearer than I. 13 Remain tonight, and in the morning, if he will redeem you, good; let him do it. But if he is not willing to redeem you, then, as the Lord lives, I will redeem you. Lie down until the morning.” 14 So she lay at his feet until the morning, but arose before one could recognize another. And he said, “Let it not be known that the woman came to the threshing floor.” 15 And he said, “Bring the garment you are wearing and hold it out.” So she held it, and he measured out six measures of barley and put it on her. Then she went into the city. 16 And when she came to her mother-in-law, she said, “How did you fare, my daughter?” Then she told her all that the man had done for her, 17 saying, “These six measures of barley he gave to me, for he said to me, ‘You must not go back empty-handed to your mother-in-law.’” 18 She replied, “Wait, my daughter, until you learn how the matter turns out, for the man will not rest but will settle the matter today.” Did you love this message? Pastor Lee continues our teaching series, Ruth: Ruth 2:1-4 NLT

1 Now there was a wealthy and influential man in Bethlehem named Boaz, who was a relative of Naomi’s husband, Elimelech. 2 One day Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi, “Let me go out into the harvest fields to pick up the stalks of grain left behind by anyone who is kind enough to let me do it.” Naomi replied, “All right, my daughter, go ahead.” 3 So Ruth went out to gather grain behind the harvesters. And as it happened, she found herself working in a field that belonged to Boaz, the relative of her father-in-law, Elimelech. 4 While she was there, Boaz arrived from Bethlehem and greeted the harvesters. “The Lord be with you!” he said. “The Lord bless you!” the harvesters replied. Ruth 2:5-12 NLT

5 Then Boaz asked his foreman, “Who is that young woman over there? Who does she belong to?” 6 And the foreman replied, “She is the young woman from Moab who came back with Naomi. 7 She asked me this morning if she could gather grain behind the harvesters. She has been hard at work ever since, except for a few minutes’ rest in the shelter.” 8 Boaz went over and said to Ruth, “Listen, my daughter. Stay right here with us when you gather grain; don’t go to any other fields. Stay right behind the young women working in my field. 9 See which part of the field they are harvesting, and then follow them. I have warned the young men not to treat you roughly. And when you are thirsty, help yourself to the water they have drawn from the well.” 10 Ruth fell at his feet and thanked him warmly. “What have I done to deserve such kindness?” she asked. “I am only a foreigner.” 11 “Yes, I know,” Boaz replied. “But I also know about everything you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband. I have heard how you left your father and mother and your own land to live here among complete strangers. 12 May the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge, reward you fully for what you have done.” 13 “I hope I continue to please you, sir,” she replied. “You have comforted me by speaking so kindly to me, even though I am not one of your workers.”

Ruth 2:13-18 NLT 14 At mealtime Boaz called to her, “Come over here, and help yourself to some food. You can dip your bread in the sour wine.” So she sat with his harvesters, and Boaz gave her some roasted grain to eat. She ate all she wanted and still had some left over. 15 When Ruth went back to work again, Boaz ordered his young men, “Let her gather grain right among the sheaves without stopping her. 16 And pull out some heads of barley from the bundles and drop them on purpose for her. Let her pick them up, and don’t give her a hard time!” 17 So Ruth gathered barley there all day, and when she beat out the grain that evening, it filled an entire basket. 18 She carried it back into town and showed it to her mother-in-law. Ruth also gave her the roasted grain that was left over from her meal.

Ruth 2:19-23 NLT 19 “Where did you gather all this grain today?” Naomi asked. “Where did you work? May the Lord bless the one who helped you!”

So Ruth told her mother-in-law about the man in whose field she had worked. She said, “The man I worked with today is named Boaz.” 20 “May the Lord bless him!” Naomi told her daughter-in-law. “He is showing his kindness to us as well as to your dead husband. That man is one of our closest relatives, one of our family redeemers.” 21 Then Ruth said, “What’s more, Boaz even told me to come back and stay with his harvesters until the entire harvest is completed.” 22 “Good!” Naomi exclaimed. “Do as he said, my daughter. Stay with his young women right through the whole harvest. You might be harassed in other fields, but you’ll be safe with him.” 23 So Ruth worked alongside the women in Boaz’s fields and gathered grain with them until the end of the barley harvest. Then she continued working with them through the wheat harvest in early summer. And all the while she lived with her mother-in-law.

Pastor Chris continues our teaching series, Ruth: Ruth 1:19–2:13 ESV

19 So the two of them went on until they came to Bethlehem. And when they came to Bethlehem, the whole town was stirred because of them. And the women said, “Is this Naomi?” 20 She said to them, “Do not call me Naomi; call me Mara, for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me. 21 I went away full, and the Lord has brought me back empty. Why call me Naomi, when the Lord has testified against me and the Almighty has brought calamity upon me?”

22 So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabite her daughter-in-law with her, who returned from the country of Moab. And they came to Bethlehem at the beginning of barley harvest.

1 Now Naomi had a relative of her husband's, a worthy man of the clan of Elimelech, whose name was Boaz. 2 And Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi, “Let me go to the field and glean among the ears of grain after him in whose sight I shall find favor.” And she said to her, “Go, my daughter.” 3 So she set out and went and gleaned in the field after the reapers, and she happened to come to the part of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the clan of Elimelech. 4 And behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem. And he said to the reapers, “The Lord be with you!” And they answered, “The Lord bless you.” 5 Then Boaz said to his young man who was in charge of the reapers, “Whose young woman is this?” 6 And the servant who was in charge of the reapers answered, “She is the young Moabite woman, who came back with Naomi from the country of Moab. 7 She said, ‘Please let me glean and gather among the sheaves after the reapers.’ So she came, and she has continued from early morning until now, except for a short rest.” 8 Then Boaz said to Ruth, “Now, listen, my daughter, do not go to glean in another field or leave this one, but keep close to my young women. 9 Let your eyes be on the field that they are reaping, and go after them. Have I not charged the young men not to touch you? And when you are thirsty, go to the vessels and drink what the young men have drawn.” 10 Then she fell on her face, bowing to the ground, and said to him, “Why have I found favor in your eyes, that you should take notice of me, since I am a foreigner?” 11 But Boaz answered her, “All that you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband has been fully told to me, and how you left your father and mother and your native land and came to a people that you did not know before. 12 The Lord repay you for what you have done, and a full reward be given you by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge!” 13 Then she said, “I have found favor in your eyes, my lord, for you have comforted me and spoken kindly to your servant, though I am not one of your servants.”

John 16:33 NIV ...“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Ruth 1:19-21 ESV 19 So the two of them went on until they came to Bethlehem.

Add Notes John 9:1–3 ESV 1 As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 And his disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” 3 Jesus answered, “It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him.

Ruth 1:6 ESV Then she arose with her daughters-in-law to return from the country of Moab, for she had heard in the fields of Moab that the Lord had visited his people and given them food.

Ruth 1:22 ESV So Naomi returned...

Ruth 2:1–3 ESV 1 Now Naomi had a relative of her husband's, a worthy man of the clan of Elimelech, whose name was Boaz.

Proverbs 16:9 ESV The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.

Mark 10:29-30 ESV 29 Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel, 30 who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life.

Ruth 2:10-13 ESV 10 Then she fell on her face, bowing to the ground, and said to him, “Why have I found favor in your eyes, that you should take notice of me, since I am a foreigner?” 11 But Boaz answered her, “All that you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband has been fully told to me, and how you left your father and mother and your native land and came to a people that you did not know before.

Pastor Whit begins a new teaching series in the Book of Ruth:

Ruth 1v1 ESV In the days when the judges ruled...

Judges 21v25 ESV In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes.

Ruth 4v17 ESV They named him Obed. He was the father of Jesse, the father of David.

Ruth 1v1 ESV In the days when the judges ruled there was a famine in the land...

Genesis 12v10 ESV Now there was a famine in the land. So Abram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, for the famine was severe in the land.

Genesis 26v1-2 ESV 1 Now there was a famine in the land, besides the former famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went to Gerar to Abimelech king of the Philistines. 2 And the Lord appeared to him and said, “Do not go down to Egypt; dwell in the land of which I shall tell you."

Genesis 46v3-4 ESV 3 Then he said, “I am God, the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for there I will make you into a great nation. 4 I myself will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also bring you up again..."

Ruth 1v1-2 ESV 1 In the days when the judges ruled there was a famine in the land, and a man of Bethlehem in Judah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he and his wife and his two sons. 2 The name of the man was Elimelech and the name of his wife Naomi, and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Chilion. They were Ephrathites from Bethlehem in Judah. They went into the country of Moab and remained there.

Ruth 1v3-5 ESV 3 But Elimelech, the husband of Naomi, died, and she was left with her two sons. 4 These took Moabite wives; the name of the one was Orpah and the name of the other Ruth. They lived there about ten years, 5 and both Mahlon and Chilion died, so that the woman was left without her two sons and her husband.

Ruth 1v16-17 ESV 16 But Ruth said, “Do not urge me to leave you or to return from following you. For where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God. 17 Where you die I will die, and there will I be buried. May the Lord do so to me and more also if anything but death parts me from you.”

Ruth 1v19 ESV So the two of them went on until they came to Bethlehem. And when they came to Bethlehem, the whole town was stirred because of them. And the women said, “Is this Naomi?”

Ruth 1v22 ESV So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabite her daughter-in-law with her, who returned from the country of Moab. And they came to Bethlehem at the beginning of barley harvest.

Genesis 2:19 ESVNow out of the ground the Lord God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name.

2 Corinthians 6:14-16 NLT14 Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness? 15 What harmony can there be between Christ and the devil? How can a believer be a partner with an unbeliever? 16 And what union can there be between God’s temple and idols? For we are the temple of the living God.

1 Corinthians 14:3 NLTBut one who prophesies strengthens others, encourages them, and comforts them.

Pastor Whit begins our new teaching series, How to Hear God.

Hebrews 1v1-3 ESV 1 Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. 3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

1 John 1v1 NIV That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life.

Luke 24v32 NIV They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”

John 10v27 ESV My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

Our Founding Pastor, Willie George, shares a message on the Law of Authority and the Law of the Seed.

Genesis 1:26 KJV

And God said, “Let us make man in our image, after Our likeness; and let them have DOMINION…over all the earth…”

Psalm 8:6 NKJV

“You made him have DOMINION over the works of Your hands; You put all things under his feet.”

Matthew 8:9 NKJV

“For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me…”

Those who are submitted to authority are enabled to exercise authority.

Mark 1:21-27 NKJV

21 Then they went into Capernaum and immediately on the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and taught. 22 And they were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. 23 Now there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit. And he cried out, 24 saying, “Let us alone! What have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did You come to destroy us? I know who You are – the Holy One of God!” 25 But Jesus rebuked him saying, “Be quiet, and come out of him!” 26 And when the unclean spirit had convulsed him and cried out with a loud voice, he came out of him. 27 Then they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? What new doctrine is this? For with authority, He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.”

Matthew 8:10 NKJV

“Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!”

Genesis 1:29 KJV

And God said, “Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed (Hebrew – “seeding seed”), which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you, it shall be for meat.”

Mark 4:3 KJV

“Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow…”

Mark 1:26 KJV

And He said, “So is the kingdom of God as if a man should cast seed into the ground…”

John 12:23-34 NKJV

23 “The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified." 24 “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.”

Genesis 3:14-15 NKJV

14 So the Lord God said to the serpent…

15 ”…I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.”

2 Corinthians 5:7 KJV

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

Psalm 126:6 KJV

Psalm 126:6 KJV

2 Corinthians 9:7 KJV

This weekend, Pastor Whit concluded our How to Be Human teaching series as we celebrated the resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ on Easter.

Matthew 7:13-14, 24-29 ESV

13 “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. 14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.

24 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” 28 And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, 29 for he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.

Matthew 13:44 ESV

“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy, he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field."

Matthew 16:24-25 ESV

24 Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it."

John 15:5 ESV

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

Pastor Whit shares a message on how you can think about the church. Here are three of the main points from his message:

• We believe the Church is a spiritual family, not a spiritual store.

• We take the Bible seriously (and so should you!)

• You will get out what you put in.

Pastor Casey continues through Jesus' teachings in His Sermon on the Mount in our current series, How To Be Human. This weekend, we talked about Matthew 7:7-11.

Matthew 7:7-11 ESV

7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? 11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!"

Pastor Lee continues through Jesus' teachings in His Sermon on the Mount in our current series, How To Be Human. This weekend, we talked about judgment.

Matthew 7:1-2 NIV

1 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

Matthew 7:3-5 NIV

3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. 6 “Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.

This weekend, Pastor Whit continues through Jesus' teachings in His Sermon on the Mount in our current series, How To Be Human. This weekend, we talked about money, attention and your needs.

Matthew 6:19-20 ESV

19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.

Matthew 6:21 ESV

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Matthew 6:22-23 ESV

22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, 23 but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!

Matthew 6:24 ESV

“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.“

Matthew 6:25-33 ESV

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? 28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."

This weekend, Pastor Whit continues through Jesus' teachings in His Sermon on the Mount in our current series, How To Be Human. This weekend, we talked about The Lord's Prayer.

Matthew 6v5-8

5 “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 6 But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

7 “And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

Matthew 6v9-10

9 Pray then like this:

“Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name.

10 Your kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Matthew 6v11-13

11 Give us this day our daily bread,

12 and forgive us our debts,

as we also have forgiven our debtors.

13 And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

Matthew 6v14-15

14 For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, 15 but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Pastor Whit continues through Jesus' teachings in His Sermon on the Mount in our current series, How To Be Human. This weekend, we talked about validation.

Matthew 6v1-6 ESV 1 “Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. 2 “Thus when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.5 “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 6 But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

Matthew 6:16-18 ESV 16 “And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 17 But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, 18 that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

Matthew 5:16 ESV ...let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Pastor Ethan continues through Jesus' teachings in His Sermon on the Mount in our current series, How To Be Human:

Matthew 5:38-47 ESV

“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you. “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same?"

Pastor Blake continues through Jesus' Sermon on the Mount in our teaching series, How To Be Human:

Matthew 5:17-20 ESV

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven."

Matthew 5:21-22 ESV

“You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment. But I say to you that everyone angry with his brother or sister will be liable to judgment…”

Matthew 5:22 ESV

”But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire.“

Matthew 5:23-26 ESV

"So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go. First, be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. Come to terms quickly with your accuser while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison. Truly, I say to you, you will never get out until you have paid the last penny."

Matthew 5:27-28 ESV

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.“

Matthew 5:29-30 ESV

“If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. And if your right-hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body goes into hell.”

"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God." Matthew 5:8

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you." Matthew 5:9-12

“Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. “Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. The word love in the Bible is often associated with breathtaking acts of trust and sacrifice. In fact, the first time the word love is used in the Bible, God puts Abraham's love to the test by asking him to make an unthinkable sacrifice. He says, 'Take your son, your only son, whom you love, and offer him as an offering?' Of course, we know Abraham passed the test. But the point is that in the Bible, love is not just a feeling. Love is an act, a sacrifice you make, a gift you give.

Hope is a positive expectation of the future. People need hope. In fact, it's necessary for human flourishing, but Christian hope is different. Hebrews 10:23 says, "Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful." All other hope is shakeable and abstract, but Christian hope is specific, certain, and communal, rooted in the promises of God.

This week, Pastor Whit talks about what it looks like to partner with God and what we can expect when we do. When we determine to follow God into some place new, there will be opposition. But when we walk with God through the valley of the shadow of death, we become the kind of people who can face anything. God has been faithful in generations past to bring us to this moment. We can have confidence that He will continue working in and through us for generations to come.

View Details

Whatever God does in you, He wants to do through you. People often think of their walk with God as running a race, but perhaps the most accurate picture of what following God should look like is running a relay race. This picture reminds us we’re part of a larger story, and we’re meant to pass the baton on to the next generation. To do this, we have to be willing to let go of what has been to step into what’s to come.

Has it ever occurred to you that God has a mission? The Bible has one through-line, a thread that begins in Genesis 1 and weaves itself all the way into the book of Revelation: the mission of God. You can't separate God's work from His people. If you're going to follow God, it's going to require movement, and it's going to require risk. But one thing is for sure: He'll always lead you back to life.

Our guest speaker, Steve Smothermon, is the Senior Pastor of Legacy Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He reminds us it's easy to have reasons for not doing something, also known as excuses. But excuses will keep you from reaching your goals and doing what God has for you. What is it that God is calling you to? It could be just a small step of faith that will have an eternal impact. He promises to give you the strength and the courage to do it.

We want every story to have a great ending, and it's no different from the book of Revelation. Luckily, the ending doesn't disappoint. God's plan was always to dwell with His people - the end of the story is that He will. In the final week of our series on Revelation, we'll look at the vision John describes, the pattern it reveals, and the invitation we have to be a part of what God is doing.

View Details

We usually don’t want to know the end of the story. In Revelation, John spoils the end; but because we know the ending, we can live in the hope of what's to come. We can live differently in the present because we know what’s at stake. We must remember, we’re not fighting for victory but for victory.

View Details

In Revelation, John gives us a picture of the Anti-Christ’s nature, reality, and mark. In Revelation 12, we see a cosmic view of the battle between the devil (the dragon) and God’s people, and in Revelation 13, we’re introduced to the beast (the anti-Christ)–a man whom the dragon gives his authority to. These passages remind us to be careful how much faith we’re putting in other people and force us to ask, whose mark do I bear?

View Details

Revelation puts in front of us some of the biggest objections people have to Christianity: the reality of suffering and judgment. But what if the real story here is not a God of judgment but a God of mercy? Revelation 6-8 reveals the true nature of judgment, the sacred nature of endurance, and the certain faithfulness of God.

View Details

In Revelation 4-5, John experiences some of the most captivating scriptures in the whole Bible. He aims to describe the indescribable. Before the Lord shows John a picture of the future, He shows him a throne standing in heaven. These passages urge us to live our lives in light of this revelation: God’s plan will be fulfilled.

View Details

In Revelation 2-3, we read John’s letter to seven churches. These passages are Christ’s words to His Church. The letter to Ephesus reminds us that our witness is broken when it’s disconnected from love. The letter to the church in Laodicea reveals that apart from God we can do nothing. God has chosen to speak primarily to and through the Church. So, what is the Spirit speaking to Church on the Move?

View Details

There may be no other book in the Bible quite as compelling yet equally mysterious as the book of Revelation. So, how should we approach a book like this? It’s important to look at the book both as a prophecy and as a letter. The Church is missing something significant when we don’t read Revelation; it’s a story that reframes our perspective, strengthens our resolve, and calls us to worship.

In the final week of our series on Proverbs, our Founding Pastor, Willie George, reveals that all throughout Scripture, God blesses His children with three different kinds of storehouses. God doesn’t want you to worry about your money, but He does want you to think about it. He wants to take what you lay down to multiply it and glorify it.

One of the most well-known Proverbs is Proverbs 3:5-6. But we rarely stop to grasp the weight of its meaning. It says to trust God with your heart, not trust God in your heart. Entrusting your heart to Him is altogether a different thing. Trust is complete and total surrender. When you lean on your own understanding, you’re putting your weight on something that can't support it. To acknowledge the Lord is to have a daily reliance on Him, built on a deep and intimate knowledge of His character.

We have easier access to people than ever before, yet we are more isolated in so many ways. The book of Proverbs has a lot to say about the need for friendship and community – not a generic kind of friendship, but biblical, life-giving friendship. We need to be around people with whom we can be truly vulnerable and receive encouragement and correction. A friend isn't just someone who doesn’t leave, but someone who moves towards you in all seasons.

The closer we get to the Lord, the more we will accurately understand justice. Justice is an attribute of God, but it’s also something we’re called to reflect on. As Christ-followers, we ought to be the most compassionate people because we’ve had unfathomable compassion shown to us. The promise we can hold onto is Jesus is coming back, and He will deal with evil once and for all.

Pastor Marty Sloan, Lead Pastor of Calvary Church in Naperville, IL, explains a divided heart is a heart torn between two different loves: a love of God and a love of the world. God will not be second in your life. Luckily, our God is faithful even when we’re unfaithful, and redeeming us even though we don’t deserve it.

Over and over in the Bible, we're given the command not to fear. But the beginning of all wisdom is to fear the Lord. How do we hold these two things in tension? The fear of the Lord is a fear that puts God at the center. We have a healthy fear of the mountains and the ocean yet often we don’t fear the God who made them. If we want to live well in a God-made world it requires the fear of the Lord through trusting Him, knowing Him, and obeying Him.

We often don’t get the weight to which our words matter. There are times when we should refrain from speaking and times when we should have difficult conversations. But how do you know when & how to speak? Luckily, Proverbs gives us a roadmap for navigating these nuanced situations with wisdom.

In week three of our Series on Proverbs, Pastor Whit shared insights from Proverbs 1 on what the pathway to maturity looks like. Proverbs tells us that wisdom is available for anyone who wants it, we just have to pursue it, but it may not always look like what we think it will.

In this message, we dissect the tension between submission and agency. As we make space to listen to God and have the courage to step out of our comfort zone, God will lead us into wisdom and the plans He has for our lives.

We desperately need wisdom, but there are external and internal obstacles. Our culture values speed and busyness, but wisdom requires patience and perspective. Pride and shame also keep us from the wisdom that’s available. Luckily, Everything that you need for life and godliness is in Jesus. Proverbs is the voice of Jesus in your life. Will you let Him speak?

Sometimes, life doesn’t go as expected. Joseph certainly didn't expect for his life to turn out the way it did. But God never leads you to a dead end. Throughout Scripture, we see that He provides a way for His people over and over again. God never promised a life without trouble, but He can give your pain purpose and work all things for the good of those who love Him.

Forgiveness and reconciliation are two concepts not only central to the story of Joseph but central to the Christian faith.  Forgiveness is about coming to the Lord with the fullness of your feelings and trusting Him with them. It's inner work between you and God. Sometimes, this inner work leads to repentance and reconciliation with others. What God desires above all, is reconciliation with you.

In Genesis 42-44, Joseph tests his brothers. He gives them a chance to enter back into a relationship with him on the basis of trust. We all have to face different tests and trials that form something in us. God never tempts you, but he does allow you to walk through difficult seasons. Tests reveal who you truly are and allow you to change. When you pass a test, you're released into a new level of intimacy with God and effectiveness for His Kingdom.

God never speaks and gives a word without giving confirmation. Joseph received confirmation from God time and time again and rose to the challenge of staying diligent no matter how challenging his circumstances got. Spiritual laws give us a pathway to both vindication and success. There are going to be times when you do the right thing but don't get your just reward. Take heart: your breakthrough almost never comes when you want it to, but it always comes when it's supposed to.

God has a way of bringing us to in-the-meantime seasons – a place where you feel stuck in the middle of where you used to be and where you want to go. In Genesis 39,  this is where Joseph is at. God often does His most significant work in our lives during this time if we let Him. The story of Joseph is the story of a family and God’s faithfulness to them. What does it mean to have God working in and through your family? The reality of family is that you’re connected to a people whether you realize it or not, and where you come from shapes you in significant ways. Unless you allow your relationship with God to shape and refine you, all of your outward faith will have very little impact on your family, and unhealthy patterns will persist. But the good news is God is faithful in spite of your unfaithfulness. What could happen in your family because of your obedience?

We shouldn’t just go back to our lives after Easter. The resurrection changes everything. Erwin McManus said, “Eternal life is not something we get when we die. Eternal life is something Jesus has already given us that can never be taken away." Because of the resurrection, we can have courage over fear and a life of purpose.

In Ephesians 2, Paul explains our condition: we were dead in our sin, buried in shame and brokenness. We have to be willing to face the reality of our condition. A lot of people believe in Jesus but have never actually received the free gift of grace through faith: this is a gift of resurrection. God being rich in mercy has made us alive in Jesus. And when you meet the real Jesus, there’s no going back.

Fasting is an unreasonable habit to draw us closer to God, and prayer is how we turn our physical hunger into spiritual hunger. When we pray and fast it gives us the opportunity to run after God in a way that we typically don’t; it increases our level of dependence. God wants you to pursue Him. Every time God calls His people to seek Him, He promises that they will find Him.

There’s tension in the Christian life: the already and the not yet. Our view of the future determines how we live. We're not called to obsess over the future, but to be faithfully obedient in the present. Spiritual disciplines like fasting help us stay obedient in the present, worship God with our best, and prepare for what’s next.

Have you ever made a vow to yourself that you’d never do something only to do that very thing? In Mark 14, we see this happen to Peter. When you live life on autopilot you do things you never thought you would. We need spiritual disciplines to keep us combat complacency and the desires of the flesh. Spiritual disciplines like prayer and fasting help us focus our attention so that we can be alert to and aware of God.

In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus invited the disciples to, “Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak” (Matthew 26:41). It’s all too easy to live life on autopilot, but what if you’re missing something important because you’re not fully awake?

Whether it’s busyness, distraction, discouragement, or selfishness, there’s always something vying for your attention and priority. Jesus invites you to wake up and pay attention. Through obedience, repentance, and communion with God in prayer, let’s enter into a season of awareness.

When you’re a Christ-follower, you’re not just a follower of teachings; you have become a new person. With every miracle, there’s a process. You being reborn in Christ was a miralce, but the renewing of your mind is a process that you have the responsibility to see through. Luckily, you have the power to do this living inside you through the Holy Spirit. Focusing and meditating on Scripture is essential to this process. The Word of God, spoken by the believer, connects the spirit of the believer to the power of God. It was when you have renewed your mind that you can truly start walking in the Spirit.

There are two kingdoms: the Church and the world. The tension of being in Christ and also a citizen of the world is a tension God’s people have always had to wrestle with. If you’re going to win the war against the world, you’re going to have to set some “unreasonable” boundaries. Saying “no” to the world means saying “yes” to the church. When God calls you out of the kingdom of darkens, He plants you into a kingdom of believers - His Church.

There’s a cost to following Jesus. You have to deny your flesh. But you’ll never succeed in your own strength. Living by the Spirit is the only way to win the war against fleshly desires. The Spirit of God gives us power for new life, and if you’re a child of God, you have everything you need to be led by the Holy Spirit. Be still, create space, and invite Him in.

In Ephesian 2, Paul reveals our three enemies: the flesh, the world, and the devil. This week, Pastor Whit details how you can combat Satan: the father of lies. Before you can defeat the devil, you have to understand that he is real, his goal is destruction, and his weapons are lies.  How do you fight lies? You fight them with the truth: the truth that God speaks in His word.

There is a struggle within you. Paul understood what this felt like: “For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out” (Romans 7:18). Paul would tell you this war isn’t just physical; there is a spiritual battle happening both inside you and around you. And this war of wills can leave you wondering, Have I changed at all? But take heart: this war is winnable. Galatians 5:16 says, “So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” Will you decide to fight?

In John 9, Jesus heals the man born blind. Faith gives us new eyes.  By faith, we receive the work of Jesus, see the work of Jesus, and join the work of Jesus. God is always working and moving, and we have to train our eyes to see Him. Our world is intentionally designed to numb us from the awareness of God. So we must be counter-formed through spiritual practices to train our spiritual eyes.  “…we prayerfully reflect on the thoughts, feelings, and actions of our day to see how God has been at work among us and how we responded.” - Richard Foster

Jesus wants to meet you where you're at - just like He did with the woman at the well in John 4. Have you read the story? When we have a real encounter with God, as she did, things don't stay the same. In the same way that God has approached us, we must respond by approaching Him in return. We have to learn to face ourselves and learn to align our desires with what He wants for us. Lastly, through an encounter with Jesus, we learn how to move toward others in love. This is what it looks like to love and be loved by Jesus.

The conversation between Jesus and His disciples in John 1 is a pattern for how we all come to Jesus and follow Him. Jesus asks a simple question, “What are you seeking?” But the answer to this question isn’t simple at all. Your desires are driving your decisions, but your desires might not even be obvious to you. Jesus didn’t ask you to have all the answers, he asked for your obedience. Action precedes understanding. If you want the life of Jesus, you have to live the life He lived.  The best thing you could ask of Jesus is, “Where are you going to be?” His invitation to you is, “Come and see.”

How do you, a Christ-follower, walk out the Biblical concept of honor when it comes to your finances? Let's talk about it.

We live in a culture of dishonor—you see it in the cynicism and sarcasm that tears down everything without limit. You see it in how we talk to and about each other. We've grown up in this culture of dishonor, so the Biblical idea of honor might not come naturally to you. But honor is a part of the culture of Heaven, and you're meant to honor God.

So, how do you honor God with your money?

  1. You honor what you prioritize

  2. Honor comes from the heart

  3. Honor requires action

This is Day 21 of our 21 Days of Prayer. This week, we're praying about our world. Keep up with our 21 Days of Prayer challenge on Instagram.

Twice a year, we set aside time for focused prayer. Why? Because if you look through all of church history and scripture, you won’t be able to find a significant move of God that wasn’t preceded by focused, fervent prayer.

So, for 21-days, we're challenging you to do three things:

1.Pray for 10-minutes a day

Each morning, we’ll post a 7-10 minute guided prayer here on our podcast for you to use as a resource. Listen and pray with us on your morning walk, your drive to work, or before you go to bed.

2.Once a week walk through your neighborhood and pray

Pick a day once a week to walk through your neighborhood and pray blessings on your neighbors. Pray that God would bring revival to your community and pray that God would use you to open a door of faith for the people you live around.

3.Memorize a scripture

Lastly, memorize Colossians 1:9-10. It’s a powerful prayer for your friends and neighbors. Once you memorize it, you’ll have it for the rest of your life.
