John Scofield had just left Miles Davis's band when he recorded the Still Warm album in 1986. Omar Hakim and Darryl Jones from Mile’s band joined him on the album. I wore out this album and its follow-on, Blue Matter back in the day… This is my cover of the title trackA personal favorite of his many guitar solos, John’s phrasing on this song is so unique, how he combines blues and bop, building along the way, with smooth nuance, and his clean tone - a true master of his unique style. My goal here was to learn, transcribe, practice, and record a challenging song, playing all the instruments.
