The Team Meeting Podcast is a different kind of meeting. We create an agenda focused on the tough things we're facing in life. We use action items to learn, laugh and grow our way through it all. I was a global leader for a Fortune 500 company for 20 plus years, so my area of expertise is leading large groups on complex projects. I've overcome bankruptcy, hip replacements, and loss. We will talk about that plus more, especially my hips. See, told you this was a different kind of meeting. To me, laughter is medicine and on this podcast we give out prescriptions on how to laugh while we grow.
This is a previously recorded episode.
Let's talk about how we change. Let's talk about what we need to do to allow our lives to change. Change is painful, just talk to the caterpillar who experiences extreme discomfort to become a butterfly.
In this episode I talk about a book called Hope for the Flowers.
This is a season of newness with graduations for college, middle school, high school and even pre K. Newness is always on the horizon but its highlighted now with the beginning of the summer in the US.
Let's talk about the cost of welcoming changing into our lives. It is worth it, are you ready to pay the price?

I wrote a book. It was or is on Amazon as an ebook and its called Activate Your Inner Superhero. It's still there, I checked.
Today, in an episode I previously uploaded I am re sharing the episode where I read a few paragraphs from the book. We entering Superhero movie season, for SpiderMan and Batman and there are probably others so I thought it would fun to talk about superheroes and how they can motivate us.
I also share this because I want to remind you that your pain and your vulnerability is actually a superpower. You can use it for good, for your good and it can actually help others.
Don't be afraid to embrace who you are and where you've been.
Peace out, from the girl with fake hips.

What are you doing to open yourself up to success? Positive thinking is not at all enough, it's a start it makes you show up some days, but it is not enough. You have to change your habits and your thinking to change your life.
Let's talk about it. This is an episode I published about a year ago and it's still relevant.

How do you handle rejection? You can see it everywhere, maybe friends go out and they didn't invite you and your family. Maybe a family member didn't choose you to do work for them even though they know you are a business owner. Oh, and relationships single, married or dating you can experience various forms of rejection on a daily basis.
I had a recent experience with it and it reminded me of how often we need to talk ourselves through feelings that come with rejection to be sure we are not being seduced by sadness and or depression because we think the rejection means we are not enough.
Sometimes rejection can be a protection from someone or something that is just nnot right for you. It can be hard to digest this reality but if you eventually accept it you can be free.

There are so many things that we have to do that are absolutely boring or terrible or just uncomfortable.
Let me list a few of mine:
I hate swimming and beaches.
I don't like exercising when I'm tired.
I don't like drinking this green juice that's supposed to be mixed with water and promises to help your gut.
I don't enjoy looking at my bank account balances.
I don't like swimming because I don't like water in my eyes, oh I already mentioned the swimming thing.
I don't like big crowds so going to Disneyland isn't really my jam.
But guess what, I have to do all those things, and many have to be done in the next few weeks. I have a soon to be 5 year old who should see Disneyland. We also need to go to a pool because she takes swim lessons and she needs to practice swimming. We'll talk about that in today's episode.
You probably have some examples too so it's time to discuss.

Don't hate the things that happened to you. I get it. Trauma, tragedy are painful and heartbreaking. The pain from it does not disappear. But let me make a suggestion.
Anything that doesn't end your life, gets to fuel your life. If you have someone who you loved that is no longer in your life because of a death or tragedy, this means you get to think of ways they made your life better and you get to honor them. Does this mean it's less painful? Probably not. My dad died 30 plus years ago and I still get angry that he's not here to give me advice, talk to me about books or give me advice about men.
I adopted my daughter. However, I spent most of my adult life like 30 plus years thinking I would someday have this wonderful experience as a pregnant woman. I wanted that. I didn't get that. I can be disappointed that it didn't happen while I am also extremely grateful that I adopted my daughter.
You probably have tragedy and sadness that you may be angry about and disappointed that it happened.
I'm not saying it's wrong to be sad or disappointed that these things have happened. Feel your feelings, don't be a robot. Be a real person.
Action: Can you consider being a person who learns to appreciate things that have happened to you, because it is healthier than walking around overtaken by sadness and regret. I want us to exercise our courage muscles and get into this.
Let's start the meeting.

Henry Ford said "Whether you believe, a thing or not, you're right." That quote has haunted me for 20 years.
I agree with it and it also makes me angry.
Why? Because I want to think there are things stopping me from having what I want in life. That makes the pain easier. I fully acknowledge trauma, privilege and other horrific circumstances can detour your success and undermine any path to your dreams. But I believe in healing and I have to believe that there is as way out of devastation even if the path is painful.
So, back to the quote.
In today's episode, I want to ask you a simple question. What do you believe about your future.
Think about one area in your life where you're dissatisfied. What do you expect to happen? Good things, bad things or no things. Your private answer to yourself will tell you what kind of action you need to take next.

What we are doing right now in this moment is impacting our future.
Are you brushing and flossing your teeth? If yes, then you may not need to wear dentures later, if no, then you, like my dad may have dentures that you put on the kitchen counter. I kid, I kid, maybe you'll take good care of your fake teeth.
Apply the same theory to how you eat. I love sugar. However, if I eat sugar today and tomorrow and forever without making any changes, I could be diabetic. That sounds horrible. I don't want that. I don't want the future version of myself to deal with that.
I'm being extreme in my examples here because in big ways and small ways we are impacting our future days.
What can you do now to support the future version of yourself.
Let's talk about a few ways to help ourselves.

I'm a guest teacher for elementary, middle and high school. I walk into new classrooms weekly and daily. For safety reasons we keep the doors locked. Whenever a student leaves they must knock to re enter.
There are two types of students.
There are some students who boldly knock when they return and stand super close to the door waiting for it to open. There are other students who knock and then hide away from the door almost as if they feel like they've inconvenienced the classroom. Those who knock in the second example feel like they are a burden and their body language often gives an apology when they re-enter. They have no reason to apologize.
Let's use this door analogy for opportunities in business, at work or in love,
My question for you, is which are you? Do you expect doors to open or do you pause before knocking on a door and hate waiting for someone to come to the door.

With growth come some pain, that is my opinion. However, let me clarify, I think pain can also be described as discomfort. So, you don't necessarily have to suffer as you grow but you will likely be out of your comfort zone as you grow which may be just as painful.
Growing Pains is actually a thing. Merriam Webster defines it in two ways:
1: Pains in the legs of growing children having no demonstrable relation to growth.
2: the stresses and strains attending a new project or development.
Dictionary.com defines it 3 ways:
1; Quasi-rheumatic pains of varying degree in the limbs during childhood and adolescence, often popularly associated with the process of growing.
2: Emotional difficulties experienced during adolescence and pre adulthood. (In my opinion this applies to adults as well,
3; Difficulties attending any new project or any rapid development of an existing project.

That isn't my quote but I'm jealous of the person who created it. It's so good and so relevant to today's podcast episode.

It takes effort to develop a better relationship with yourself. You'll need to confront limiting thinking patterns and habits that you've developed which are making you feel hopeless.
You may need to recognize that there is past trauma or childhood or even recent issues that block you from healing.
However, if you want to improve your life you have to do some work. Everyone does. If you aren't developing skills to help you face your challenges it will be clear from the decisions you make and the circumstances you continue to suffering from.
You can heal by taking small steps. I am a big fan of small victories, which lead to bigger victories. This is an example of developing confidence and a better relationship with yourself.
Today let's talk about learning from kids who give us an example of how to look for the good in life. If you find good things in your life despite the chaos or sadness or despair that you're facing, then you can face your challenges with more confidence and even have hope that things will work out for you.

Today’s Team Meeting continues the theme of Developing a Better Relationship with Yourself. Today's agenda is about learning lessons from our life challenges. I know easy to say but harder to do.
In today's podcast, we're developing a plan to build our courage muscles so we can notice what we are supposed to learn from the things we go through in life.
Ask yourself this question. What am I supposed to be learning from this experience? Don't waste the pain by filling up with regret and sadness. Maybe the lesson is simple. Maybe you end up saying, I will never allow that thing to happen again.

Today’s Team Meeting continues the theme of Developing a Better Relationship with Yourself. Today's agenda is about Building Courage for the Things You Dread Doing.
In today's podcast, we're developing a plan to build our courage muscles so we can do things that we don't feel like doing. For example, maybe you need some courage to have a difficult conversation with a family member. Maybe you need to learn how to set boundaries with your life partner or with someone you work with so that they know how you prefer to be treated. You may dread dealing with these issues, but things won't get better unless you face them.
We have 4 tips that will hopefully help you think of ways to deal with difficult things. These tips won't make the fear go away, but you may feel less intimidated by the fear.

Today’s Team Meeting continues the theme of Developing a Better Relationship with Yourself. Today's agenda is “Everything Doesn’t need to be ALLLL right to be all right.” We need to stop thinking our life is a mess when everything isn’t working perfectly.
Stop the inner critic in your mind from telling you that your life is a mess when things aren’t all sorted out and when you don’t have all the answers to your life questions. You need to keep going. Write down your questions, read books about that thing you're going through to get another perspective, or talk to friends or join a community of people that has been through what you're going through. No one has life completely figured out. Stop being so mean to yourself and silence that inner critic by saying “ I don’t have all the answers but I will figure this out.”
Repeat it after me. "I don't have all the answers, but I will figure this out." Then you do the uncomfortable things that come you way because you have to exercise your courage muscles to grow and receive guidance for whatever you're going through.

Is it ok to like yourself? This is not talked about enough and people can easily misunderstand this and think you’re saying you’re better than someone if you like who you are. Liking yourself does not mean you think you’re better than some else. Liking yourself will actually help you be better to everyone else, more honest, more productive in your relationships and maybe even more kind.
In today's podcast episode, I talk about liking yourself, do you value your time, do you speak up when someone says something that's unkind or incorrect? Or are you silent because you don't like to cause problems.
How you feel about yourself is impacted by absolutely everything you’re doing in your life. If you default and say yes of course I like myself, then I challenge you to look closely at your relationships. Are voicing your opinion to those you work with and to your family? Are you accepting love or do you have prison bars up preventing anyone from getting to your heart? Are you used to being disappointed by people around you but you never say anything? Those questions point to boundaries you may need to set so that people around you know what you need. First, you need to get clear on what you need and realize you deserve to have what you need.
Let's build our courage muscles and learn how to develop a better relationship with ourselves. I have been working on this for so many years and I've learned some things that I will continue to share with you.
See my recent article on medium on this topic.

We are almost through the Mel Robbins book The High Five Habit. We are talking about manifesting and I talk about some points she makes in the book in Chapter 14.
Manifest: to create something or turn something from an idea into reality, Berkeley Well Being Institute
Truth: I hate the word manifesting. It seems cheesy and annoying arrogant, but that's because so many talk about it without considering some key factors.
Today I talk about some of the challenges I've had with manifesting. I don't "hate" it but I know it is something that can easily become a heartbreaking experience if you don't understand or learn some of the lessons I learned the hard way.

Lets talk about Chapter 13 Can I Actually Handle This from The High Five Habit by Mel Robbins.
Can you handle the season of life you're in?
The fact that you may ask yourself this question is a sign that you can. Feeling the challenge you're in and realizing that its heavy means you are away that you may be required to develop into a newer version of yourself. You may need to be a version of yourself that will say I can keep it together and not lose it when my air conditioning goes out in the Arizona Heat. Yea, I did that and it was terrible and I did question whether I could handle it and some days I did not handle it well.
You can handle this, however you may need to ask for help. You may need to be kinder to yourself. You may need a community of people in similar situations.
Be kind to yourself as you navigate through the hard stuff. Look up, look around, look for help.
Let's start the meeting.

Life can be life sometimes, am I right?
We have a plan we expect things to do a certain way and then everything falls apart and we end up on our knees suffering.
I had this experience in my 20s when I had a car repossessed. My neighbors came running to my door to tell me someone was towing my car. I tried to run outside to stop it from happening, I failed. This is a longer story, and this was a car that I had co signed on it wasn't "my car," This is probably a good topic for a separate podcast. Anyway, life brought me to my knees that day. It took a long time for me to get up again.
How else are we brought to our knees? We launch products and crickets are our only customers. We coach a team that loses every game. We're in a relationship that crushes our souls and is embarrassing to talk about.
I've been there for all these scenarios. When you get to this point you need to be prepared to have a "workaround"
work·a·round
A workaround is a mindset that allows us to not be taken out by unexpected obstacles. Instead of seeing an obstacle and allowing it to bring us to our knees and shut us down, we can still be brought to our knees, but instead we can get back up and figure out our next move.
It's ok and necessary to feel the disappointment and sadness of something not working out, but it is also necessary to realize life does not end there. An obstacle is a comma not a period and we get to write the next chapter.

We've heard it before.
The answer no.
It can hurt when we're adults and I witness the pain it brings my 4 year old daughter when I say we will not go to Target to walk through the toy aisle for the 3rd time this week.
Hearing a no as a response to something you really want or someone you really want hurts bad. Pain.
In today's episode, we talk about how we can redefine what a no means to us.
Let me be clear. No's still are the worst. But maybe not the worst thing in the world.

Your GPS works when your car is moving. Even if you're moving in the wrong direction, you will be guided.
What does that mean?
Take a step even if it's imperfect and you will be guided.
A closed door does not mean you're failing. A closed door means that path through that door is not your path at this time or maybe never.
Let's use an example of a person who "ghosts" you in a relationship. For those who do not know, "ghosting" is when a person you have some sort of relationship with does not return your calls or texts or just disappears out of your life. Well, ghosting in this example means you are being guided away from that person for now or maybe forever.
Example: I was in the car on my way to a work assignment, I was in the Starbucks drivethru. My GPS was on but it was silent with no instructions. After the car started moving again, the GPS started guiding me. I started moving and I was guided again.
You have to take action and it doesn't need to be big, it can be small and imperfect. You can still see progress and healing and be productive by taking small actions.
Your assignment: Take acton and know that you are guided. It's simple but it requires effort., Remember you are not failing if you reach a closed door.

Friends, today I wanna talk about motivation. It's gonna get a bit spicy on today's episode.
My opinion is that you don't need motivation to move forward in life. I'm not motivated to do things, but I am interested in doing many things and realize that to get those things done, I have to do things that are boring and tedious and annoying. You will need to do annoying things to get what you want in life.
Instead of waiting for motivation to appear, ask yourself this question:
What is the next step I need to take to move my life forward in this area?
Example from my life
I want to fit the jeans that I love which are at the moment too tight to button. They are so cute, they have 5 buttons and they give off a retro vibe. I love them and I can't fit them. I'm not motivated to ease up on the sugar, I'm not motivated to get my heart rate up for longer periods during the say. But I want to fit the jeans so I am moving forward to exercise sometimes I achieve what I wanted and have a great workout and sometimes I miss, but I want to wear the jeans and I'm not giving up. I am not waiting for motivation, I am setting my life up to continue taking the next best steps to fit these jeans.
I found this definition for motivation online. Motivation is the process that initiates, guides, and maintains goal-oriented behaviors. It is what causes you to act, whether it is getting a glass of water to reduce thirst or reading a book to gain knowledge. Motivation involves the biological, emotional, social, and cognitive forces that activate behavior.
Let me add what I think motivation is. I think it's a feeling that we wait for to take action, it's a desire we wait to feel before we take action on something we're afraid to do, or are not interested in doing.
Motivation isn't required for success. Taking steps and more steps and learning from your mistakes and doing things that you don't feel like it get you where you need to be.
So, take the next best step, and keep taking steps.
You want to start a business, make a list of things you need to learn and start learning them. Don't wait for motivation, take the next best step.

Life gets messy but don't let that keep you from starting something new. There will be challenges and delays and frustrations. Expect it, not because you want to be negative. Expect challenges because life is full of them but you have survived every bad that you've had so far.
I have several messy chapters in my life right now. I recently redecorated my home office/bedroom and it was messy and exhausting and it took longer than I expected. I had to take pain pills after long nights of painting and going up and down a ladder. I painted ceiling. I did all the painting by myself.
It was messy and it was worth it.
Don't be intimidated out of your dream. Take steps, develop a plan to move forward even if you move slowly. Don't just talk about it. Take action towards it and be willing to deal with the messy parts of life.

This is a replay from Season 1. It is a message that never gets old.
What do we need to do to open ourselves up to good things, to gratitude, to optimism. It's not always a natural way to think. So, I think we can learn a lesson from my 3 year old daughter who's potty training. She has a watch that looks like an Apple Watch with an alarm that goes off every 30 minutes to remind us to go to the potty so we can sing songs and she can try. It's working in case you're wondering. Stay with me here. What if we could remind ourselves to be optimistic, to be hopeful, or to find something to be grateful for during the day. Instead of going to the potty we could consciously think about good things in our life. Or we can take a few minutes to imagine having our dreams come true.
Let's start the meeting.

This week we are talking about how to retrain your Reticular Activating System (RAS). I think of it as a bouncer in your brain letting important and valued things in. The issue here is that as a bouncer the RAS sometimes gets it wrong and lets things in that should not be in.
This week we have 3 steps to take to start retraining your RAS so it knows what you truly value. It takes work but that's what we do after these meetings right?
WHAT IS THE RETICULAR ACTIVATING SYSTEM?
The Reticular Activating System (RAS) is a bundle of nerves that sits in your brainstem. And its job is to regulate behavioral arousal, consciousness and motivation. What that means is, the RAS is able to control what incoming information (stimulus) you’re aware of, so that you’ll be motivated to behave in a certain way.
But what does that mean? It’s a “guard” that sits between your brain and your senses (sight, hearing, touch etc.) and filters what information gets through and what doesn’t. Bet you didn’t know that your brain is not processing everything that happens around you!
In this book, Mel teaches you how to start high fiving the most important person in your life, the one who is staring back at you in the mirror: YOURSELF.
Also, did you know I have an Etsy Shop. I have products in the shop to help you exercise your courage muscles.

Progress is impossible without change: and those who can not change their minds can not change anything. George Bernard Shaw.
Faced with the choice between changing one's mind and proving that there is no need to do so, almost everyone gets busy on the proof. John Kenneth Galbraith
There are many examples of leaders from the ancient of times who have changed, evolved and often recreated themselves. There are biblical references of it and even examples from the HBO show the Game of Thrones, remember Jamie Lannister?
For today's agenda, let's talk about how it it's ok to change how you think about yourself or a topic. I know in my life this has been true. I used to think nothing good would ever happen to me. I was wrong. I use to think I had to work hard and achieve things to show I was worthy of love and admiration. I was wrong. I used to think I would never find someone who I connected to on a deep level. I'm single but I know I'm not wrong. Let's hope this podcast episode ages well.
What thoughts do you need to change?

“To love without knowing how to love wounds the person we love.”
― Thích Nhất Hạnh, How to Love
Gary Chapman's book The Five Love Languages is what we're talking about today. This book has been a New York Times Bestseller since 2009.
I read this book several years ago and I still refer to it when I'm thinking about relationships. Chapman outlines five general ways that romantic partners express and experience love, which Chapman calls "love languages". The focus is on romantic relationships but there are other versions that he has written for families to learn how love each other and even for parents to understand the personalities and love languages of their children.
In this book Chapman outlines 5 languages which include the following:
Take the quiz. Maybe it will give you information about yourself. Of course it's not an exact science but it may help you understand how you receive love and how you're giving love. Interesting fact, we can often give love the way we like to receive it. However, showing love the way we want to rather than the way our partner or family member needs it can hurt your partner.
Today lets discuss how learning to love helps us and the people we give the love to.
Let's start the meeting.

Friends, I hope your 2020 is not horrible.
My first couple of weeks have not been horrible. However, the days have been full of tough lessons. One lesson I will talk about in another podcast. It involves me walking into a public restroom (you know how they have the one stall restrooms for men and women.) I didn't knock. Awkward pause here. I walked into the restroom that was occupied by a man. I am traumatized but I have laughed about it and when I feel better I will make more jokes. Wait for it, it will be a good laugh at some point. OMG
Today I want to talk about fear, my fear. How I deal with it. I have plenty of fears, that makes me human, it doesn't make me weak. I hope you know that fear does not make you weak, it means you're living life and in many ways your fear is your way of keeping yourself safe. The problem is that we often allow fear to trick us into believing new experiences or moving out of our comfort zone are unsafe and not worth the effort. That's what I'm talking about in today's episode and I hope hope hope it helps you.
If you didn't know, we have Team Meeting products in our Etsy store. I created them to give you words of encouragement and humor to get you through your days. Go over to Etsy and check it out.

Friends!
Thanks for joining today's meeting,. Today's question is "Why Are We So Hard On Ourselves?"
I say we, but I mean me.
Life is not designed to hand us success or satisfaction, but rather to present us with challenges that make us grow. Terry Laughlin, founder of Total Immersion.
This past summer was a major challenge for me and I thought I had become an expert at managing a crisis, with hip replacements, bankruptcy, heartbreak, tragedies, adopting via foster care, I thought I checked a lot of boxes for painful things. However, this summers challenge involved me spending 4 nights in the Intensive Care Unit at a Children's Hospital with my daughter. It was an expected surgery. I knew we would be in the intensive care unit. It was still terrifying. I still remember the beeping sounds.
Good news, my daughter is healing and we got through it. We will likely go back for more surgeries but I will address that when the time comes.
Here are 4 things I learned about that experience and I hope these things help you with any challenge you're facing now.
Give yourself credit for your wins. You have some wins, even if your win is that you're listening to podcasts and seeking information or ways to get better at managing your life. You have one, so recognize it.
You can't wait until you have everything figured out to feel confident. You have to do things that are uncomfortable and solve the problems that you need to solve along the way. This is life. I am swimming in the unknown and I think this is the ocean I will continue to live in and that's ok.
You will make mistakes. Solve them, forgive yourself for errors and move forward. Repeat this cycle as needed, especially the forgiving yourself part.
Don't be so hard on yourself, you're growing. You're a human being that is growing.
Let's start today's meeting.
Hey team
Happiest New Year to you. I'm gonna let you know that the first week of 2022 was not great. I can't even say why, because I don't know, but I think I am dealing with growing pains. I need to do a lot of things that are uncomfortable in order to do what I want in 2022 and it is not feeling good in the moment.
For today's meeting we're still about the Mel Robbins book The High Five Habit.
I'll reviewing the entire book, I read it once and I also listened to it on audible. I recommend it.
We are on Chapter 3, I don't think we talk enough about how much we need to support ourselves and stop hating our mistakes, our stomachs, or bad decisions and our imperfections. This is so true for me now because I am always tempted to be very critical of my mistakes and unkind to myself when I haven't met a goal that I've set.
However, one of my quotes in the Etsy store is this
"Hopelessness is seductive, but you are too good to be in a relationship with it. I made that quote for myself and its still true for me and it's true for you too."Please remember this quote as we move through this year. Be kind to yourself and don't give in to hopelessness when you get frustrated about the virus and how it's impacting your life, don't be hopeless about your money or about your kids and their school.

Today I'm doubling up on hope. I talk about hope a lot because there was a time when I was so hopeless the dark thoughts I was thinking almost took over. I know what its like to feel like you have nothing to look forward to. So, I will for the rest of my life tell you that you have so much good coming your way and you are not alone. So, I'm referring you back to Episode 3 from this season, Season 2 and I'm talking about hope and giving an update on my experience working on puzzles which I hate.
These next few months will test our hope because we may feel like we're on a hamster wheel going no where. 2022 may feel similar to 2021 and there may be a temptation to be a cynic about what 2022 will bring. I assure you though there is a different way to think about what's happening to you, if you're wiling to hear me I have some tips.
Hope is important because it can make the present moment less difficult to bear. If we believe that tomorrow will be better, we can bear a hardship today. Thich Nhat Hanh
Hope is not a dirty word. Let's start today's meeting.
Also, if you haven't been to the Etsy store, go go go. I have products that will help you feel hopeful and exercise your courage muscles. You can use the cards I've created to set the tone for your day, you can choose one of the 30 quote cards and mediate on it to change your thinking.

Second, disrupt it and find resources, meditations, kind people, communities or even therapy that can help you get to the root cause so you can stop it.
You're here, you're listening to this podcast so you are stronger than you think. You are literally seeking opportunities to learn.
Let's talk about ways to think differently about your life.
Let's start the meeting,.
Also, if you don't know I have an Etsy Shop that's loaded with products to help inspire you to take action. I know what its like feel stalled, paralyzed by fear and afraid to make a mistake. Unthinkably good things can happen even late in the game. quote from Under The Tuscan Sun movie
This week’s episode for those who think they’ve lost in life. I'll use an analogy. Think of life as a baseball, softball or basketball game and there is a time clock. The game is nearing its end and your team is behind. In this analogy, you don’t think you can make a comeback, you think you didn’t play well enough so you don't get to win. You expect to lose and think that’s the only alternative.
Think of this analogy for your life. I’m talking to women who feel stuck in careers that don’t fulfill them. This is for women who spent their years only focused on what everyone else wanted rather than creating their own path and setting boundaries for their needs. I'm talking to you. I’m talking to the person who had dreams of starting a business and either never did or did it and it didn’t go as well as you planned. I’m talking to the person who has financial trauma and doesn’t expect to ever have what they want.
Hear me now. The game isn’t over. You can still win. However as we discuss in this meeting, you will need to take action, bold and imperfect action to trigger change.
Let's start the meeting.
In today's Team Meeting episode we have another great interview.
Have you every been afraid to be your full self at work, in a relationship or with family and friends? I have and it's a horrible feeling of loneliness.
Today we talk about how to get comfortable taking up space. When we say "take up space" we mean be yourself, go into a room and don't question if you're worthy of being there. Apply for a job and don't be afraid you're not smart enough. Go on a date and don't worry about not being interesting enough. Take. Up. Space. This is all a part of being yourself.
I'm talking to my friend Rafat Fields, who is a Purpose Cultivator (I love that term). She helps women align their purpose for profit. We met in a Mastermind group and she has helped me to define my audience for the work that I'm doing now. She can help you too. You can reach out to her here
Another message from this episode is that you must learn to be kind to yourself. It is an act of bravery to accept and unconditionally love who you are. It is also a journey to learn how to practice kindness for yourself.
A book we reference in today's session is The Big Leap: Conquer Your Hidden Fear and Take Life to the Next Level by Gay Hendrick. I highly recommend it. I'm listening to the audio version now. The concept of operating in your zone of genius fascinates me and is something I aim to do.
I also referenced the ebook I wrote that's on amazon. If you want to hear my story about my journey to love myself through hip replacement surgery. Check it out here.
Let's start the meeting.
I created the Team Meeting Podcast to share my lessons learned about how to get unstuck in life. I know how it feels. I've been stuck plenty of times. I filed bankruptcy during graduate school and I thought I ruined my life. I had hip replacements at an age when I thought I would have been in the hospital to giving birth to a child, but I was getting my hips replaced instead. It broke my heart. I felt stuck again.
In this week's episode I'm giving you examples of how to get unstuck. Of course it starts with what you're hearing, your background music in life. That music is directing you whether you like the sound or not. My background music used to play this song called "you never get what you want." That song was on repeat and it kept me stuck for years.
I've changed the music but that song tries to get on my playlist and I have to reject it and choose another song.
Today's episode will hopefully help you choose another song.
Check out my Etsy Store where I have products to help you exercise your brave muscles and realize you can still have the life you dream of even if it looks a little different. I know what that feels like and its good.

Do you like you?
I spent many years not liking myself because I was single and because I was overweight and because I was single and overweight. ha!
Well, it has taken what seems like a million years but I have learned to like myself with extra body fat and when I feel toned and awesome. I have learned to like myself single, I've spent many years here and I finally feel peace even though I know Mr. Amazing is out there.
Let's talk about ways to like yourself with all the imperfections and the wonderful things you bring to this world.
Let's start the meeting.
Reference, get the new Mel Robbins book The High 5 Habit. It has helped me to think about ways to like me when I look and feel my worst. Her tools that she shares are simple and powerful. I listened to the audio version at night since I have a toddler who thinks mommy has to be with her when she sleeps. Thank God for air pods.

Rebounding definition: Definition of rebound - Merriam-Webster
1 : to bounce back after hitting something · 2 : to get over a disappointment · 3 : to catch a basketball after a player has thrown it at the basket and has not .
Let's talk about how to rebound. Rebound has several definitions, some related to sports and others to relationships. I'm talking about both in today's podcast episode.
We're talking about how to try again when we take our shots in life and that thing we do tanks or no one seems to care, listen or buy what we are offering.
Let's use the basketball example because for the WNBA the Women's Basketball Association, they had their championships recently.
Candace Parker a WNBA premiere player has tons of reasons why she should stop playing basketball. She's had 7 knee surgeries and a herniated disk in her back and many other physical challenges. So she's a perfect example for today's podcast. She took a chance and went to play for the Chicago Skye WNBA team after spending her career with the LA Sparks team.
Chicago Skye had never won a championship however she was a star player with LA Sparks a team which has won several championships.
In this season's championship game, Chicago Skye came from behind and won the WNBA Championship. Candace helped them make history with all her pain and challenges. She rebounded literally on the court and in life.
Let's talk about how to rebound not just on basketball courts but in our lives, in our days in our minutes. Rebounding requires resets, constant resets.
Let's start today's meeting.
.
Life is messy. Let's talk about it.
Nelson Mandela said "It always seems impossible until it's done." I have always loved that quote and this week's podcast is a little appetizer to introduce you to that concept.
Anything that's growing or transforming or improving will have points when things get messy or seem chaotic or even impossible.
Have you ever cleaned your closet? Messy so so messy.
Have you ever had a home improvement project where you got new floors or knocked down a wall. It's a mess it seems like you can't overcome it.
Let's talk about how we can learn to tolerate the mess because this is the price of growth and its worth it.
Let's start the meeting.
Hope gets bad press. The hustle culture that wants you to work work work, ignore silence and prove yourself wants you to think its not enough.
But I disagree.
Yes, achieving goals and your dreams and being healed from trauma requires effort, but it starts with hope. Hope helps you wake up and try again after bankruptcy, after heartbreak, after losing loved ones to a virus that seems like a mystery.
I think hope is brave.
Today is a 10 minute huddle. Let's get into it.,
Let's start today's meeting.
Let's talk about building our mental strength. We do it by working our courage muscles. We all could us that now.
Today's meeting is a 10 minute huddle where we have a quick session with actions. We always have actions. We always work our actions.

We are back. It Season and we are coming in hot with interviews this season. This is a solo discussion where I talk about my experience this summer in the ICU with my daughter who had a major surgery.
It was scary and I learned lessons more lessons about how I handle stress. I am hoping my lessons help you with whatever season you are currently in. You don't need to be a parent to benefit from this discussion. I'm hoping everyone, parents non parents, those not interested in being parents will listen.
We are seriously building this community who don't want to sit on the sidelines and watch their life, they want to jump in and take action, imperfect action, messy action that advances them in their life journey. You don't need to make perfect moves to progress in life. I am so imperfect but I am choosing to grow with every experience.

Let's start today's meeting!
Friends
We have come to the end of Season 1. But I'm only taking a few weeks off to organize for Season 2 which will kick off in mid to late July. I'm so excited to be bringing you interviews in Season 2, but everything we do is still focused on common life issues that try to flatten us. We may bend but we won't break. Let's keep learning, laughing and growing together.
Thank you for a great first season!
Let's start today's meeting.
How uncomfortable is it to learn new things, do new things or to do something new and not be good at it. The only way through is to learn to be ok in new spaces, and in new environments. Let's grow together.
Friends, we are soon ending Season 1 and Season 2 will be fresh with interviews from people who talk about overcoming their life struggles and of course we will laugh.
Let's start today's meeting.
Friends, this one is simple. Let's talk about how to be kind, so kind that we ask people how to pronounce their names and say it right. I have lived with this issue all my life. My name is pronounced TAR RAH but it has been pronounced many different ways. As a little girl I was afraid to correct people when they said my name incorrectly. What a shame right?
On behalf of everyone who has a unique name, can you do me a favor and ask us how to pronounce our names correctly. Please and thank you so much.
Hi Friends
Let's make some mistakes and then learn from them. Let's stop shutting down and retreating when things don't go our way. We are so focused on being perfect that we aren't being real and we aren't living the life we dream.
I've made plenty of mistakes. I'm cool with discussing them with the hope that you can see there is a path forward.
Let's start the meeting.
Scars mean you're healing or you have healed. Scars show you overcame it or survived it. Scars should not be looked with shame. I have a lot to say because I have a lot of scars.
Let's talk about it.
Apologies can be tricky. We often ask children to apologize and they learn to say the words but not change their actions. Saying I’m sorry so they can move on not so they can stop doing the things that required the apology leads to more of the same as adults.
As adults we see so many in the public eye and in our homes who say hurtful or disgraceful things and sometimes they apologize well and it’s heartfelt and other times they decide to be defensive and don’t want to dig in to learn what they did was wrong.
In today’s short meeting we talk about ways to do it right.
Let’s start the meeting.
Friends, let's talk about doing things scared.
I'm referencing Luvvie Ajayi Jones' book Professional Troublemaker: The Fear Fighter Manual. I highly recommend this book to you, its for men and women. It's a good book for humans.
I will not tell you to be fearless. Instead I would say "do it scared."
Let's start today's meeting.
Friends, let's talk about happiness and what it means. Are you assigning your happiness to a person or an event, or a certain date, like when you become a millionare or when you get married and have children?
Let's talk about how to be happy now. Now not when x or y or z happens.
Let's start today's meeting.
In social media we look at everyone else's success and we celebrate them or we wish we were them. Let's stop doing that. Let's notice and learn from public figures but let's not worship them. Let's talk about ways to stop comparing how we live our lives to how public figures "seem" to be living their lives.
Let's start the meeting.
Let's agree that it takes work to maintain your self confidence. Doing this work during a pandemic is not fun or comfortable. However, we can grow from it. Today we talk about ways to maintain our confidence despite weight gain, disappointments, loneliness etc.
Let's start the meeting.
Hi friends
Let's talk about time I sabotaged my 5th grade class election. I was nominated to be class president and could not handle the idea of leading my peers. So the day of the election, I convinced my mom that I was sick and I stayed home. My crush, I forget his name, won the election.
Have you ever ran away from something you knew you were supposed to?
Let's talk about it in today's meeting.
Hi friends,
My nails are trash but as they say the show must go on, especially in a pandemic. So let's talk about having difficult conversations. Do you avoid them like avoiding a scale or do you run towards them like Mel Gibson in Bravehart? Which are you? Let's talk about some things you can do to get more comfortable having those difficult convos.
Let's start the meeting.
Today we're talking about obstacles and how they don't always mean you're on the wrong path. Sometimes they are there to give you fuel for your life and help you grow. I know it sounds unappealing but join today's team meeting.
I'm using excerpts from the book The Obstacle is the Way by Ryan Holiday. Its a great book.
I am so familiar with obstacles and I've let them bully me for years. I was intimidated by hard things.
Here are 4 discussion points from the Ryan Holiday Book
Channel Your Energy—Arthur Ashe was a black tennis player, one of the greats actually. To survive segregation in 50s and 60s required restraint, and he channeled this energy into fierceness on tennis court. His style is best described as something he referred to as physically loose and mentally tight. Adversity can harden you or it can loosen you up and make you better if you let it.
The art of acquiescence (The acceptance of something without protest) I’m going to take it a little further and say without regret or without giving in to fear—Abraham Lincoln's speech impediment forced him to go with it, and by with it I mean he had to find a way to communicate strongly and he chose to write. He was a great writer as a result. Ryan has a quote “Constraints in life are a good thing. Especially if we can accept them and let them direct us. They push us to places and to develop skills that we’d otherwise never have pursued." Example Pat Riley and hip surgery movement restrictions.
Love Everything that happens Jack Johnson the Boxer—the act of turning what we must do into what we get to do. Johnson ( a black boxer) was hated by everyone who watched him box, but he choose to enjoy every single minute of it. The grit of loving everything that happens to you is actually beautiful. Johnson once faced a white boxer who was brought out of retirement to stop Johnson from being a champion in his weight class. The crowd booed Johnson, but he smiled and fought his fight. An announcer is quoted as saying “No one understands him, this man who smiles. Well the story of this fight is the story of a smile. If ever a man won by nothing more fatiguing than a smile, Johnson won today.”
Live in the present moment. “It doesn’t matter whether this is the worst time to be alive or the best, whether you’re in a good job market or a bad one, or that the obstacle you face is intimidating or burdensome. What matters is that right now is right now. The more you embrace the moment and not the past, the easier the obstacle will be to face and move. —not easy you need to catch your mind when it goes to the past. The other day I had to do this when I was working on a project that reminded me of a failure a few years ago. They are different but I was bringing the past in to my present moment. I could feel the dread trying to cuddle with me.
This is a great book and I highly recommend it although it will require you to take notes and re-read passages.
Let's start the meeting.
Today's meeting is a short one but the message is big, big enough to repeat over and over again.
Agenda: Don't let your mistakes, other people or things define you. Let's stop allowing it, and you have the power to refuse the definition.
Jeans that are too tight don't mean you're not good enough. I'm working through this now, and I know its tough I want to punish myself for bad food choices but instead I am loving myself and rejecting the idea that I'm not wonderful because these lil jeans are squeezing me extra tight.
A relationship fail, doesn’t mean you’re a failure. It may just mean that relationship wasn’t good for you. For me, this means I don’t define myself as a failure because I have not been married yet. Also if you're a singe male who likes latte, let's be amigos.
Only have $50.87 in the bank until your next paycheck. Yes, I've been there. No, you are not losing in life,. Go to the dollar store and hold on, this is a season not a permanent place.
I am a good writer even when my writing is not embraced by whoever out there in the internets.
You are enough, you are amazing regardless of your painful life experiences, heartbreaks and disappointments. Now it's time for you to believe it.
Let's start today's short meeting.
Friends,
Today's meeting agenda is about insects, specifically caterpillars and butterflies. The process a caterpillar must endure to become a butterfly is apparently gross and painful but also magnificently beautiful. So to me, this means change is hard and also worth it.
So let's talk about nature and how it relates to our own journey through painful life experiences. Also please note, I do not like butterflies. This makes me a horrible human, I know. I recognize their beauty but I also think they're creepy.
So, lets start the meeting.
Hi friends, here is a 10 minute quick meeting. Today's agenda is about looking at broken clocks and expecting the correct time. I love clocks and I also collect watches. When the batteries die, I don't always replace them immediately. I keep the clock on the wall for decoration and I wear watches because they are pretty but when the battery dies they have the wrong time. How often are we looking at our past or our mistakes or our so called failures and bringing them into our present moment. How often do you look at a broken clock as if it has the correct time?
Friends, are you looking your past pain as if it's your truth, are you looking at a broken clock as if it is true?
Let's start the meeting.
In today's 10 minute meeting we're talking about how to navigate through the unknown. I think we can all agree that we have lived and are living through unknown and uncertain times.
Let's talk about ways to be kind to ourselves while managing chaos in our life.
Let's start the meeting.
Comparing yourself to other people is dangerous and highly inaccurate. In today's short episode I talk about comparison and how it "ain't cute."
There is a difference between comparing your life to someone else's and being inspired by someone.
Comparison ain't cute because the social media feed you're looking at is 5 minutes of their life and you will rarely see the messy bits.
Here is a quote from Lisa Olivera
"Instead of assuming other people are better than you, you can ask. Do I really believe any human is inherently better than another or am I just trying to make myself feel bad."
Let's start today's meeting.
Friends,
I am giving you content with an aim to add value or prompt you to take some sort of action, all in 10 minutes or less. I started doing this for the month of February but I think it will become a regular thing. These are tips I use in my life or have previous used. Forward this to someone who may need to hear it.
We've all done hard things, we made it through 2020 so maybe its training us for more hard things.
Let's get into it.
Hi Friends,
I'm giving you content with an aim to add value or prompt you to take some sort of action, all in 10 minutes or less. Share this episode with someone who needs it.
Clutter can represent chaos in our environment and stress in our minds. I've had times in my life when my unpaid bills were stacked on the dining room table like they were part of my furniture.
Are you surrounded by clutter? Today we talk about ways to tidy up.
Let's start the meeting.
Hi friends. Part of my history includes bankruptcy after I finished graduate school. There are many reasons why it happened. The good news is that I made it through and you can too. Even if you're not filing bankruptcy but facing financial hardships there is a way through that too. In this episode I have 7 tips on how to overcome financial trauma.
Don't be ashamed of the things you're facing today. There is a story of victory and endurance on the other side of this painful life experience. Be encouraged, let's talk about it.
“Accept - then act. Whatever the present moment contains, accept it as if you had chosen it. Always work with it, not against it. Make it your friend and ally, not your enemy. This will miraculously transform your whole life.” Eckhart Tolle
Let's start the meeting.
This is a short Team Meeting episode where I share quick tips on a topic. We call it a 10 minute huddle.
Comfort is on today's agenda. Are you comfortable or are there areas of your life where you are uncomfortable because you're growing.
2020 made us all uncomfortable, but despite the discomfort there is an opportunity to grow.
Lets' start the meeting.
According to Psychology Today, people pleasing is putting the needs of others above your own in a habitual or neurotic manner. The funny thing is, you may not even like the people you're trying to please.
The way we try to please people says more about ourselves than anything else. Not surprisingly, working to please people omay require you to do something that is not right for you. Sadly, when you spend so much time trying to please or keep love of someone you’ve probably not spending time developing yourself.
Let's get into it.
In today's short episode "The 10 Minute Huddle" we talk about how we collect rejections. Rejections from jobs, rejections from dating relationships or even rejections for our creative work. Rejections come in many packages but the question is are you collecting the rejection or the lesson.
Let's get into it.
COVID has impacted everything, how we work, how we live, how we travel. For me I feel the direct impact from being laid off last year after being in corporate america for 20 years.
COVID certainly has impacted the workforce even if you're a stay at home mom or dad, a business owner or a student. Every industry feels the impact from those employed by a company to those who are business owners. Let's not forget frontline healthcare workers or those working in industries to keep our economy strong and our needs met during this crisis. I'm thankful for grocery deliveries! We appreciate them all!
In this episode lets talk about COVID's impact. Of course this is just a start as there is so much to discus.
I love home renovations. It started for me years ago when I lived alone and decided I wanted my apartment to look like me. So, I banned black leather because it had dominated the decor in my home when I had a roommate. You're home and your life should represent who you are not what others want you to be.
I once volunteered to redecorate my brothers home starting with his living room and its 10 feet ceilings. Painting was painful for my body. I took pain pills after each session, it was messy and it took longer than I thought. But it turned out beautiful.
When my brother had a lil episode with dehydration and the paramedics came to his home, I was there when one of the paramedics said his home decorations were nice. I felt like a start that day. My bro is fine, absolutely fine. He ended up in the hospital for a minute but he's fine.
Seriously, life renovations like home renovations are messy, take a long time and you feel pain. But the results are beautiful if you keep putting in the work.
Today we're talking about vision. More importantly, we're talking about seeing with your eyes closed.
I've worn glasses since I was 15 years old and my mom asked me to look out the window and tell her the license plate number for the car in our neighbor's carport. We were like a modern day private detective team, like LA's Finest. I don’t know what she did with that information but I know it was the first time I realized I couldn’t see a thing.
According to the Vision Impact Institute research, 3 out of 4 people in the U.S. have vision correction, and of those people, 71% wear glasses and 22% wear contacts. However, the number of people wearing corrective glasses or contacts changes drastically as people age This last sentence troubles me because I'm there now.
You see things twice, first with your heart and then with your eyes. This is a quote from my new line coming out in Etsy in a few weeks.
But what do you see? I have learned that when it comes to our life dreams it's even more important to see it with your eyes closed before you see it with your physical eyes.
Lets get into it.
We are kicking off an Inspiration series that we’ll do once a month.
Definition of Inspiration: mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially creative.
Quote: Courage is the first of human qualities because it is the quality which guarantees all others. Winston Churchill.
Let's learn from athletes, historical figures, war heroes, even doctors and nurses and anyone who's been on the frontlines of this pandemic.
Here are a few quotes I found...
Kobe Bryant quote: This is the moment I accept the most challenging times will always be behind me and in front of me.
Rafael Nadal: I am the only player who can beat me. I play each point like my life depends on it.
Serena Williams: I don’t like to lose at anything, yet I’ve grown most not from victories but setbacks. If winning is God’s reward then losing is how he teaches us.
Our inspiration is not limited to others, we can find it within ourselves.
Hi, its Tauralynn.
I thought you should know a little about me and my fake hips and my optimism. I also talk about my Quarantine Experience (QE) which includes adopting a 2 year old and being laid off from two jobs.
I am happy to be in this podcast community, join me and subscribe and we can talk about your QE.
MISTAKES—We are so committed to living a mistake free life that we aren’t growing. We're suffering and living in defeat rather than gathering the lesson and continuing to move forward. Today, let’s talk about how we can change the way we look at "failures."
Hi there, I started a podcast. I listen to one almost every day so I figure rather than continue to dream about it, I should make it happen. So now we’re here.
This is the Team Meeting Podcast and I’m Tauralynn your host. I know everyone is tired of the zoom meetings. Ok so many of you probably hate meetings, I get it. But, the Team Meeting is a podcast where we meet weekly to Learn Laugh and Grow together. This not like the boring work meetings you’ve been attending via zoom or the meetings you had in person before COVID. We don’t waste time, we work on our assigned action items and we laugh, a lot. Our agenda is work life, running a business, overcoming injuries, relationships, parenting, or choosing not to parent. All the things that concern in you, that’s what we put on the agenda. And we use action items to build our endurance, so we can grow.
I”ll use my 20 years of experience in corporate America leading large groups and hosting meetings, some good ones and some very bad ones to create an agenda and action items to add value to your life. I think we could all use that right now.
Who is this podcast for?
Anyone who’s interested in working through their messy life challenges and laughing along the way, this podcast is for you.
I’ll use stories from my life for our agendas like the the fact that I unexpectedly left corporate America after 20 years. Thank you COVID.
I know what its like to grieve the loss of someone you love, we will talk about the aftermath of that.
There are lessons I learned from overcoming bi lateral hip replacements to become a certified cycle instructor. I love adding resistance.
Or the fact that for 20 plus years I wanted a family and cried about not having one. I then became a foster parent to several children and then adopted my first child and a single woman, in my 40s during the pandemic via a zoom meeting.
Oh and I will share my experience with financial failure, I filed bankruptcy and I have plenty of lessons to share so you can learn from me and laugh.
What do you need to do?
Click subscribe to The Team Meeting and you’ll have an open invite to this community. Join the Team Meeting weekly. I’m Tauralynn, your host and I’ll see you there. Let’s learn, let’s laugh, let’s grow. Let’s go.
