Talking about start ups and crypto in and around Switzerland, I talk to entrepreneurs, tech innovators and disruptors to discover their vision of the future.
This episode features a comprehensive interview with Michele Federici. Previously involved with Seba Bank (now Amina Bank), Michele discusses his journey from a childhood fascination with computers and security, influenced by his grandfather, to pioneering the development of ultra-secure crypto storage solutions. He shares anecdotes from his early engagement with Bitcoin, insights into the complexities of crypto custody, and detailed explanations of technical challenges encountered while securing cryptocurrencies.
The conversation shifts to Federici's perspective on user interface improvements, self-custody solutions, and his vision for enhancing crypto security through innovative technologies like Multi-Party Computation (MPC) and zero-knowledge proofs. Towards the end, Federici provides personal insights on his inspirations, his first paycheck, and the non-financial best investment he's ever made — founding his company.

Kristian Csepcsar discusses the bitcoin mining industry and the misconceptions about it being boring. He delves into the significance of reduced reward variance, the critical market share required for mining pools, and how aftermarket firmware has revolutionized the industry. Then we explore how Stratum V2 enhances communication between miners and pools and the advantages it will bring. There is also a discussion about the hardware centralization issues in China and the need for more non-Chinese competitors. Finally, Kristian recounts his own journey into Bitcoin, initially motivated by potential profits but eventually captivated by the revolutionary potential of Bitcoin.

I used GPT4 to ask Satoshi Nakamoto all the questions you have ever wanted to ask, like why 21 mio, who inspired him, what will happen when all the coins will be mined and much more. Discover for yourself the answers I got from Chat GPT 4. Occasionally when I thought the answer was to obvious or superficiel, I asked the question again. At one point I ask if he had ever worked with Len Sassaman. Len Sassaman is a potential candidate to be Satoshi. He was a brillant cryptographer, who commited suicide only 2 months after satoshi sent a final communication
I’ve moved on to other things and probably won’t be around in the future.
to cite a brilland article in Medium by Evan Hatch
Len Sassaman
devoted his life to defending personal freedoms through cryptography, working as a developer on PGP encryption and open-source privacy technology, as well as an academic cryptographer researching P2P networks under blockchain inventor David Chaum.
He was also a pillar of the hacker community: a friend and influence to so many of the important figures in the history of infosec and cryptocurrency.
Furthermore we think, by the time stamps of some of Satoshis messages, that at one point he was in europe. At that time Len Sassaman was working in Belgium, with David Chaum. I have included a link to the article in the show notes.
Enjoy, and remember it is just an AI answering you. You will judge for yourself the quality of the responses.

This case should disturb all people concerned about the over-reach of a justice system. Like the Tornado cash case, it only reinforces the need for the protection of individual freedom through anonymity. Tor Ekland and Michael Hassard describe the case of Swedish-citizen Roman Sterlingov accused of administering the crypto-mixer Bitcoin Fog and laundering $330 Million of criminal proceeds through it over the course of a decade. But there isn't a single piece of evidence that Roman ever operated Bitcoin Fog. He was merely an innocent user of the service securing his privacy interests. Nothing about this case adds up except the profit motives of the investigators and companies involved.
Roman faces 50-years to life in prison based on speculative, uncorroborated, blockchain forensics conducted at desks thousands of miles away from Sweden.
Hear Roman's lawyers dissect this Kafkaesque nightmare and explain why everyone in the crypto community should be concerned about this American

A recent ruling by Finma, the Swiss financial regulator unexpectedly sparked discontent in the Swiss crypto community, The ruling in the form of an ordinance related to how much crypto currency an entity is allowed to buy without having to go through a KYC procedure. KYC stands for know your customer. It is a procedure intended to identify the real owner of assets and the origin of the assets. The ruling was contested by a small group led by Alex Roussel. He will give us context and explain why he contested it. In general Finma is well respected by the crypto community, but this event reveals how a small group can contest and shape legislation in Switzerland.

This episode is directed to angel investors and venture capitalists. If you are interested in getting an idea of the valuations of crypto firms, I ask the question; how much are Swiss crypto startups really worth? How do they compare to well known startups in the USA or elsewhere? What information is available and what is just guesswork. I had a look and put some numbers together and we will see what my guests Mauro Cappiello and Alex Poltorak have to say about these valuations.

Streamr.network, based in Zug, is the backbone infrastructure for companies and people to automatically share data in real time and be paid for it.
In this episode, Henri Pihkala tells us what it takes to build a decentralized network and how to incentive people to join it. He explains the success that they have had with their test net and how Twitter could become a decentralized network with Streamr. Henri went from using data for stock trading to building a backbone for people to buy and sell data without a central party. This is the future of the internet, being built in Switzerland.

Tomer Strolight is a successful author and podcast host. He has had a lot of success with articles that have been shared by Micheal Saylor and Jimmy Song. In this podcast we discuss his most recent article "The problem with Ethereum." We discuss how it has strayed from their original promises. Tomer makes comparisons to Bitcoin and explains that Bitcoin has remained truer to its promises, which gives it more credibility and thus in the long run, more value. We talk about the transition to Proof of Stake, Defi and NFT. A great conversation to put things in perspective!
