Remember when my SIL Tamar shared her awesome re-lactation story with us? B"H she's still going strong nursing Zahava and I wanted to check back in! Plus her baby sister Tova gave birth to an adorable baby boy over the summer. We didn't manage to coordinate a 3-way call, so listen in to an authentic sister-sister interview between Tamar and Tova as they discuss all things breastfeeding. They're not the "gloss things over" type, so it's a real look into the pros and cons of their experiences. Plus, Tova shares what it's been like to watch the family shift in their attitude towards nursing and nursing over a year. Thanks Tamar and Tova!

Some topics we cover:

What IS a doula?

Who should hire a doula? (Hint: pretty much every woman having a baby!)

Why? What can a doula do for you if you plan to get an epidural, have a C-section, or use a midwife for a home birth?

Are all doulas the same?  When does a doula provide care?

What can women do to empower themselves during the journey to motherhood?

For more information on this and other women's health topics, visit P'nima Wellness at www.frumwomenshealth.com. Comments, questions, and feedback are always welcome!

My friend Batzion is the AWESOME Tipat Chalav (well baby clinic) nurse for at least half of the frum population of Karmiel. She explains a lot of the "how" and "why" of the Tipat Chalav system here in Israel, and the general importance of taking your baby in for well baby visits wherever you are in the world. Plus, in her clinic she's responsible for prenatal nursing care, so she shares some insights there as well! I'm sure you'll enjoy hearing what she has to say.

How long should a woman wait to get pregnant after a C Section? Why wait? And does it matter (medically) how quickly a healthy woman gets pregnant if she hasn't had a C Section?

Note: If a woman wants spacing of over a year and doesn't know whether breastfeeding will work for her, she should consider an alternate method of birth control. (After a CS, she should pick a more reliable method, regardless.)

To breastfeed or not to breastfeed - that was Tamar's question. And she took some time to answer it.

Tamar shares her recent experience nursing her 4th child. Not only was this her first time breastfeeding, but she made it happen when her daughter was almost 1 month old!  Tamar tells us a bit about how this "re-lactation" story unfolded, and gives her nuanced perspective on both bottle and breastfeeding.
