This was inspired by discussions on the CULTish podcast that discusses important topics within African American culture. Tek recounts his precarious experiences of living through and escaping a war torn country and becoming a self-made engineer in the US. His daughter, Shewit also adds a refreshingly new perspective as she is an American born to her Eritrean dad who has had quite different upbringings and life experiences that shaped their paths.

In this episode, we reflect on recent events and throwback to similarities of a ‘coup’ and post poll unrest back in Kenya.
Intercultural Couple Reacts to Capitol Building Protest
In this video, we expose our intercultural views on the capitol building protest that ensued following the 2020 US elections. We draw similarities to certain post election or "post poll" violence events that occurred in Kenya back in December 2007 and early 2008.
President elect Joe Biden (being inaugurated today 1/20/2021) won the majority and electoral vote in 2020 and this was not well received by supporters of the outgoing President Trump. This led to the recent capitol building storming that occurred in Washington. It felt like deja vu for me, a person who experienced post poll chaos back in late 2007, early 2008 after elections in Kenya. We discuss similarities and include a storytime retelling of living through these experiences as a young person focused on launching my career.
Steve hosts this episode and brings out my answers why I have a hard time camping in USA even though I used to the countryside life typical of the African jungle away from the big cities like Nairobi.
In this episode, I give my experiences of shocking cultural experiences I experiences and adjusted to since coming to the US 8 years ago. I’d love to hear from listeners about their culture shock experiences. Today’s show will be highlighting the key factors to consider when selecting a PhD program. It’s a lot of the tips I would tell my younger self. While I wouldn’t necessarily change my choices, knowing these tips off the bat would really have helped me avoid stumbling around or experiencing anxiety from being so uncertain about my choices. These tips are designed to help those who are in this stage of their careers to have the audacity to take intentional and directional charge of their professional journey, and to master their own PhD experience.
