Self-realisation, self-inquiry, non-duality and enlightenment w/ Gary Lee Haskins from The Conscious Perspective
Many people on the spiritual path will come across the idea of detachment. And often this is mistaken to be the absolute renunciation of the world and the self. Here we take a look into what detachment should really look like from a non-dual perspective.
Many people experience love under certain conditions and boundaries. Let’s look into what true unconditional compassion and love looks like, and how to open once heart so that this love may radiate boundlessly.
The illusion of the separate self is constant fuelled by conscious and subconscious affirmations and belief systems. Here we will look into how this illusion can be dissolved to experience true oneness.
Are your thoughts determining your reality or is reality determining itself? When we are deeply identified with our thoughts our perspective on reality is warped. In this video I begin speaking about this with the example of the rain. Some see it as a burden and some see it as a blessing. Transcending identification with thoughts liberates us from our impulsive reaction to our surroundings altogether.
The very essence of Islam is Tawhid (Oneness). Here we dive into Islam and Non-duality to see that Tawhid is to be recognised in our waking reality rather than occupied as just a belief.
What does a non-dual awakening look like. We begin by looking at this from an intellectual and philosophical perspective where I share with you some analogies. And then we look at some self-inquiry questions to look deeper and awaken to the non-dual truth experientially.
In one part of the world people celebrate death in a joyous ceremony. In an another part of the world people mourn death. There are many traditions, cultures and religion that have a differing perspective on death. This is an attempt to take a look at death from a non-dual perspective.
All spiritual practises boil down to one thing. The final spiritual practise before awakening. We will inquire into this and see what the most potent yet simplest practise really is.
Are you avoiding or embracing life? These are the two options presented to you in every moment. Let's observe and inquire into the very psychological mechanisms that keep us from embracing life fully.
How do we feel more alive and connected? What we really long for as humans is a deeper sense of connection and profoundness in all aspects of life. Connections however, imply that there is distance. So what we truly long for is Oneness. Let's explore this further!
At times we may feel as though there is this sense of lack. A feeling of unfulfilment no matter what we do. We find ourselves resorting to distractions, pleasures, substances and a means to avoid this feeling. Let's explore why this is the case together and find out how to overcome this.
There are many theoretical concepts that attempt to explain time. But we are interested in investigating time experientially to see how and what influences its flow throughout our lives. And we will also look at how it all ties in with spirituality.
Many believe that other people and events control their lives. And that how they feel is the consequence of external matters. But the truth is that however you feel is your own doing. Your world is warped and manufactured by your thoughts. How we react is a choice that we can make within us.
I was honoured to speak at the City of London University ABSOC (AhlulBayt Society). The topic is on Oneness also known as Tawhid in Arabic which is the basis of the Islamic religion. Many Muslims occupy this fundamental essence of Islam as an ideology and integral part of the belief system. When in reality Oneness is to be experienced. This is the first talk where we explore how to experience Oneness/Tawhid. If this interests you keep a look out for the second part.
This is a discussion organised by The University of Manchester ABSOC (AhlulBayt Society). The topic of this discussion is on 'How to see God'. This is the third of the three part series. Even though this discussion is not limited to any particular religion, I used Islamic references as inspiration. You will notice that the nature of this discussion engages a high level of self-reflection. "One our of self-reflection is greater than 70 years of worship" - Prophet Muhammad.

For very long I felt like my balance was tipped. I suffered more than I felt happiness and peace. I share some anecdotes that have changed my perspective on this.
Why do we feel sad and suffer more often than being at peace? Why is hour happiness fleeting while our stresses and frustrations last? Is there something blocking our happiness? Let's explore together.
Many self actualised individuals have somehow found themselves wandering through the desert. I wanted to see first hand what the desert has to offer from a spiritual perspective. Here is my take on it.
Whoever saw the last video will know that generosity is a key aspect of the Arba'een journey. Here I shortly touch upon the beauty in giving.

Here we discuss how to be more in tune with yourself. Another way of describing this is to re-recognise and abide by the true self that is beyond concepts, thoughts, opinions and desires. The place of freedom. The place of absolute peace.
Usually we experience flow for some periods time whilst engaging in an isolated activity like drawing, studying and running. I spoke about this in a previous video about 'Entering flow'. This time I wanted to touch upon entering flow not through an isolated activity but through awareness itself. Like this one can experience the flow of flow or in other words the flow of time. Let's dive into it!
We can take many lessons from how nature orchestrates itself in existence. The rivers flow, the wind blows, the sun shines and the moon glows. All without any complaints. It sounds silly but imagine the sun decided not to show up one day because it got anxious by imagining what could happen the whole time. We’re not any different, it’s just that we actually do hold on to concepts that cause us to constantly trip over ourselves. Let’s talk about it.
We sometimes occupy ourselves with different tasks, objects, activities and circumstances to ultimately fill an unfillable void within us. This is really the root of why anyone strives for anything at all. But on the flip side, one is extremely fortunate to realise somewhere down the path of life that accumulations somehow make the void feel larger and that 'less is more'.
In this ever increasing 'hustle' and 'productivity' culture we sometimes find ourselves losing sight of what truly matters. We often strive to achieve particular goals to fill a void within us only to realise that it doesn't. Let's take a look and see where we can gain clarity to re-establish what truly matters to us!
Across almost every tradition the idea of knowing your self prevails. In fact it doesn’t take too long to realise that we all want or are already in the process of discovering it. People sometimes even travel across the world, seek ancient wisdom and teachings to fulfil this. But perhaps you don’t need to go anywhere. Perhaps you already have what you are looking for. Let’s find out?
How often do you just pause, look around and within you and think, "wow, it's really happening. I am.... existing?". It fascinates all of us, whatever walk of life, origin or background. But the moment the mind comes up with an answer of why or how that is, the fascination is lost. Life is then seen as this familiar thing that we know all about again. Let's take some time to slow down, breathe and unwrap this 'present'.
Alan Watts has this cool analogy where he said that if you looked at a newspaper with a microscope, you would see randomly scattered dots that would not make any sense. But if you looked at the same paper with a naked eye you would see that those same dots were actually scattered strategically to form an image that can now be seen. Self-reflection is the tool that aids in the shift in perspective that allows one to see the bigger picture. Let's talk about it.
We go through many experiences in life that we can easily label as desirable or undesirable. The pleasant experience we make the milk but the unpleasant experience we try to block. The problem with this is that all experiences happen on the same stage of life. Therefore, rejecting an undesirable experience would mean rejecting a desirable one. In other words we have built walls and numbed ourselves to life. Let’s look at ways to re-spark that joy we once had as children.
It is not difficult to wake up early in the morning. It is not difficult to go to the gym, run or meditate. None of these activities are inherently difficult. We have all taken part in more difficult things in our lives. The difficulty comes from the sudden introduction of change into our life. In this video we discuss how we can ease the transition and some common pitfalls along the way.
Around 10 months ago I took part in a 30 day dopamine detox fast during the month of Ramadan 2020. It was challenging but extremely fruitful. Usually I would only take part in the fasting, but the incorporation of a dopamine detox, in the form of restricting certain activities, takes it to a complete new level. In this video I speak about one key benefit to what I would call 'The Soul Detox', and how to prepare oneself when we start it in mid-April 2021.
Whether you claim a sense of ownership over particular possessions or not, they will still remain as any other accumulated object in our lives. Ofcourse there is utility in claiming ownership over our possessions in the practical sense. But somewhere along the line they seem to begin owning us. In this video we take a non-dualistic approach towards this to find out what remains once we realise that we don't own anything.
Following up from the previous video “What is Spiritual Awakening?”, we will talk about some of the signs of spiritual awakening. The common theme is the shedding of the ego and the old ways in perceiving reality. But very much how everyone will peel a banana differently, everyone will experience similar yet different signs.

Poetry is a huge passion of mine. In my free time if I'm not writing it I like to either read it or listen to different performances. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the poem and this type of content! :)

The natural flow of life manifests itself to explore alternate iterations of events to ultimately broaden its experience. These iterations are often initiated in our lives by some form of disruption. Often we can find ourselves consumed by a perpetual loop of compulsive activity. Unconsciously enslaved by a powerful urge to engage in that instantly gratifying hit. We likely feel a sense of guilt accompanied with such actions as we know deep down that they only ever push us away from achieving our goals and being the best versions of ourselves. In this video we briefly observe the fact that we should not be afraid to just be.

I was first introduced to juicing over a year ago by a friend of mine. He claimed that there are many benefits when doing a juice fast. So I took it upon myself to do it for a couple of days and it felt great. But most recently my sister, who suffered from severe eczema, managed to completely cure it after 7 days of juicing. So I was compelled to share this possibility with you. I hope this video benefits you in some way.

When we are handed a highly sophisticated piece of technology such as a spaceship, we can easily become overwhelmed by its complex features. A good start is to read the user manual to grasp the basics on how to manoeuvre the spaceship. We are born without a user manual or instructions on how to optimise our body and intelligence so that it works in our favour. This leads to mental health problems which we discuss on this walk.
