"The Call To Create is a monthly video podcast hosted by Charlie Thiel and produced by Ghost Village Films. We feature in-depth conversations with people exploring what it means to live a creative life."
Dr. Rebecca Johnson is leading what has been called one of the most exciting university development projects in the country: the reclamation of under-utilized lands near the center of Bend, Oregon— a former pumice mine and demolition landfill — and expansion of OSU-Cascades from a 10- to a 128- acre campus that will serve 3,000 to 5,000 students.
Bend Oregon has also been named one of the fastest growing cities in the country. Charlie and Dr. Becky discuss how the develop of Oregon State University coincides and influences the rapid development of the city as a new economic and cultural hub in the state.
Becky was named the Bend Chamber 2015 Woman of the Year, the 2014 Source Woman of the Year, and received the Bend 2030 Vision Builder Award in 2009. She received a B.A. in economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an M.S. and Ph.D. in agricultural economics from Michigan State University.

Charlie's conversation with Brooklyn-based painter Julio Cotto Rivera dives into what it has been like to be a working artist during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Like many artists, Rivera is employed in the service and hospitality industries in order to allow the time and creative energy to produce and sell work. With the prolonged and uncertain upheaval of those industries, Charlie and Julio discuss how artists are adjusting and some of the creative ways artists are supporting other artists.

This month we're sharing some of the live-streamed interviews we captured at BendFilm Festival this past October. As this was our first attempt at live-streaming an event, these bonus episodes are a little rougher around the edges than usual. The content itself, however, brought some rare voices into the conversation with some unique insights into the independent film industry.
This talk is with actors Falk Hentschel and Kimberly Leemans.
