How do you guarantee results for your golfers? Coach Will Robins shares his top strategies to be the COACH and get students to lower scores (even if they’re not practicing on their own).
The most important goal as a coach is to teach golfers what the game of golf is. Most people think it’s about the golf swing, hitting it straight, hitting it far. The game is simple… it’s the lowest score. Explain to golfers what scoring is and what’s important to get them to lower scores.
Will talks about what it looks like to be a golf coach over a golf instructor and the implications for you and your students.

Coach Will Robins is back to help you make some realistic plans for your coaching programs in 2017 and shares his 3 keys to launching your successful coaching program.
Create a vision Most coaches think of the customer first and come up with all the reasons that a new coaching program WON’T work instead of looking at what will drive you as a coach.
COACHES QUESTION: What would drive you to be passionate to come to work every day?
COACHES QUESTION: What do you not like doing? (write down 10 things you don’t want to do and then write down the 10 you do)
“Bring your passion to the forefront” Instead of dreading your day craft a business, work, and students that you actually enjoy working with.
Sell it before you build it The minute you have your vision and passion, share your passion with your players and start to get feedback on what they’re interested in. The key here is to communicate don’t sell.
The biggest sales tool you have in your marketing arsenal is the INVITATION. By building relationships with students you have an opportunity to invite them into programs and opportunites that are the BEST fit for them.
Focus on getting results whatever the cost How do you balance technique and getting people on the course? We talk about the difference between being a coach and a teacher.
Find who you are and stand up for what you believe.

Over on the Golf Science Lab we’ve just released our first “powered by” podcast. It’s called GAME LIKE TRAINING RADIO and coach Matthew Cooke and I are dedicating an entire show to discussing effective learning and practice environments
SUBSCRIBE TO THE SHOW IN ITUNES
Because the topic of learning is so under explored, Matt and Cordie are going to explore more effective and efficient training environments, have conversations with experts in the field, and also dive into research papers on different topics related to golf training.
For this second episode of Game Like Training Radio – Our guest today is Trevor Ragan from TrainUgly.com. Trevor explains his “jungle tiger” analogy and walks us through his four-step framework to achieve amazing results in your game.
Trevor explains that Train Ugly is the marriage of the mental component, or growth mindset, and motor science learning. He emphasizes that a motor learning science practice can get ugly – it’s harder, more chaotic and more random. When you’re in that zone, you make more mistakes.
That’s why coupling that science with growth mindset research produces the best results; the mental approach to learning helps you see the value of mistakes and struggle and how that helps you to grow more.
SUBSCRIBE TO THE SHOW IN ITUNES About Trevor Ragan and Train Ugly Trevor Ragan has dedicated himself to researching how learning best occurs. However, he has noticed that there is a large gap between the best practices found in the research and common coaching methods.
Train Ugly is based on motor learning and performance science research, and focuses on how to foster an environment that promotes personal growth and improvement. Trevor’s mindset approach has been used both in the sports world (e.g. the USA Women’s Volleyball Team, the Miami Heat) and the corporate world (e.g. Starbucks).

What we resist persists
If you can sit quietly after difficult news;
if in financial downturns you remain perfectly calm;
if you can see your neighbors travel to fantastic places without a twinge of jealousy;
if you can happily eat whatever is put on your plate;
if you can fall asleep after a day of running around without a drink or a pill;
if you can always find contentment just where you are:
you are probably a dog.
