In a world littered with remakes, reboots, sequels, prequels, and cinematic universes, three friends gather each week to try to make sense of it all. Join Aaron Hahn, Jacob Lacy, and David Becker as they discuss the latest film releases, their all-time favorites, some of the worst films that they have ever seen, and much more. One may never know exactly what to expect from this podcast for film-lovers, but don’t worry, because there’s a Reboot Already Underway.
Jacob and Aaron once again act as Secret Agent-s working to uncover which Oscar Best Picture noms are bad and which are Sinners. Will it Bug(onia) Jacob if the Academy decides Hamnet has more Sentimental Value than his preferred winner? Is Aaron the real monster for having (Train) Dreams of Frankenstein reigning (Marty) Supreme? Picking their top choice is One Battle After Another, except for when it comes to F1 vs Ford v Ferrari.
Jacob and Aaron are Dune it again: forming their annual Conclave to dissect The Substance of this year's Oscar's nominees. They sing the praises of the Wicked-ly talented cast of Anora, but have some Brutal(ist) opinions on the music of Emilia Perez. Both find I'm Still Here to be one of the best of the year, but, Boy, if you had a Nickel for every time they talk about Scooby-Doo 2 instead, you'd have a lot of nickels. This week, Jacob and Aaron take another stab at the Scream franchise, and find the cast and crew didn't phone in this arguably superior slasher sequel.
After returning from summer camp, Aaron returns to a cabin in the woods as he and Jacob crack open the book on Evil Dead 2. Say hello again to the Bye-Bye Man's biggest fan, as Aaron returns from summer camp solitude with a long list of what he's been watching. Replace the list with Matthew Broderick and you may have something here. David's latched onto the idea that Venom could be good, and Jacob's isn't willing to wave the flag for Assassination Nation.
This week David and Jacob are joined by Shakira while discussing the movies that, in the moment, felt the most surreal. Also, Shakira brings the hot takes on the Mamma Mia franchise and its continuity, David can't escape his confusion over The Room, and Jacob is still flying high on Mission: Impossible - Fallout.

This week, Aaron and Jacob embark on The End of the Tour with Jesse Eisenberg's David Lipsky and Jason Segel's David Foster Wallace. The two guys talk about their thoughts on the two guys talking about their thoughts on fame, talent, and happiness, while still finding time to make infinite jests.
The guys assemble in the aftermath of Avengers: Infinity War to ask the important questions about the game-changing movie event. Namely, where the hell is Korg? WHAT HAPPENED TO KORG??! Also, Jacob can't quite say "I love dogs" to Isle of Dogs (Perhaps he prefers those that can shoot lasers out of their hands?), Aaron trots out a Bojack Horseman-caliber joke, and David finally gets his sushi, man, no thanks to communism.
It's said one dare not speak the name of the Scottish Play, of which the Gateway to Cinema guys watch the 2015 adaptation, but the duo goes one step further, neglecting to speak about the film much at all in favor of high school tales, told by two gas-money cheapskates, full of cabbage and Pinterest, signifying a long shared history and mutual inability to stay on track.
The guys sink their teeth into the new trailer for this year's big comic book adaptation. No, not that one. No, not that one either. No, Aquaman doesn't have a trailer yet. No-- It's Venom, guys. No, we don't know why he's getting a movie either. Anyway, David shares his thoughts on the anti-communist genre with the proles, Aaron fulfills his desire to reveal the unforeseeable left-turn of Wishmaster 4: The Prophecy Fulfilled, and Jacob tells a lie.
This week, the duo sees Blue Velvet through their tears. Aaron's ready to unravel the mysteries of the film's Lynchian madness, but Jacob has to make sure Laura Dern is okay first.
Aaron said Stalker, but Jacob must have heard "slacker", so the two switch to talking The Big Lebowski this week. The guys find themselves with a 7-10 split between "actually talking about the film" and "talking about everything from Bibleman to Jesus (no, not that one)", and are apparently unsure how to pick up that Spare.
The guys celebrate 100 episodes the only way they know how: getting way off-topic every chance they get! Somehow, the three are still able to propose an infinite number of ways that Disney could improve Infinity War's impending success. Also, David thinks up a way for them to drink up, Jacob loses sleep over Adam Sandler's Bedtime Stories, and, when it comes to watching a Western or doing his homework, Aaron's more for For a Few Dollars More.
While setting out to reveal their favorite theme songs, the guys end up revealing a lot about their childhoods, their rap skills, and the mixed legacy of Simple Plan. Also, ASMR makes Jacob decidedly unrelaxed when no one knows his meme, Aaron has hit peak "too indie" thanks to MUBI, and David just really wants some sushi, man.
The Gateway to Cinema guys examine Under the Skin, one of the more unusual films on the list. Aaron wants to dig deep into its depictions of sex, self, and science-fiction, but Jacob just needs time to pull himself back together.
The guys pick more favorite film scores, ones that capture the mystique of the west or make them feel like they're holding baby dinosaurs or something. Music is tough to describe. Also, Aaron has finally found the Key to crafting an enjoyable Insidious film, David is not silent about his love for A Quiet Place, and Jacob... well... Jacob just really "goes to town" teaching kids about the birds, the bees, and... the abandoned buildings...?
Coming back after a four month hiatus, the Gateway to Cinema guys are a bit rusty, unlike the titular character of Brad Bird's animated masterpiece, The Iron Giant. Jacob sheds a tear for a deer, while Aaron finds the movie's anti-violence plea to be #WayTooRelevant.
March/April/Infinity-War Madness infects the podcast as the guys put the entire MCU in a bracket, but all bets are off due to a surprise underdog, ...the assassination of Abraham Lincoln...? Also, David wants some brainfood while Brainstorming, Jacob presses START on the inevitable Ready Player One debate, and Aaron got tricked by the 1982 slasher Trick Or Treats.
This week Jacob continues his trend of bringing David in on rants about film choices he doesn't understand by asking just why Unsane needed to be shot on an iPhone 7. Also, David has an elevator pitch for a Monster Hunter film and Aaron's true identity is revealed.
The guys pick more times they thought they would love or hate a movie and didn't, but, despite admitting their faults, Jacob still tries to deny that Nacho Libre is a great film. Also, Aaron reveals his beef with RZA while getting war ready for Pacific Rim: Uprising, and David prays they never make another film as bad as Strangers: Prey at Night.
Every kid at the box office likes Illumination a lot, but Jacob, who has lived through their new Grinch trailer, does not, and tries to bring the others in on his ranting. The guys revisit their Oscar predictions, and much like those of the actual ceremony, the winner will not surprise you! David returns and brings some pretty legit podcast segment ideas with him, Aaron watched a movie on MUBI, and Jacob wishes he was less familiar with The Strangers franchise.
Just before the ceremony, the guys are able to squeeze in the most divisive of the Best Picture noms, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. While Aaron and Jacob agree that the film deserves all the acting awards coming its way, they have reservations about certain tropes of the film that aren't exactly landbreaking. ...Wait, "landbreaking"? Is that a word?
The guys dig their claws into Black Panther spoilers, and conclude that it's one of Marvel's finest solo films. David is still gone so the other two brainstorm ways to catch him up, Aaron wonders if Steel is due for a critical reevaluation (Counterpoint: It sucks), and Jacob proves he's willing to admit when he's wrong after a follow-up with It Follows.
The guys set out to pick clichés that should go away, but end up forming a clothing line that should totally exist. David is gone but still shares his Black Panther feels, Aaron has some specific desires when brainstorming a new podcast segment, and Jacob solves his own mystery of the Scooby-Doo Rap.
The guys delve into Denis Villeneuve's breathtaking sci-fi sequel, Blade Runner 2049, despite the fact it was snubbed for Best Picture. What else are they going to do? See Darkest Hour? Jacob gets existential about the potential of androids and A.I., but Aaron's still questioning the humanity of Jared Leto.
Love is in the air as the guys pick more favorite romances from film/TV. Well, "bromances", in David's case. Everyone's on board the hype train to Wakanda, Aaron tries his best to elevate the inherently creepy 50 First Dates in the casting segment, and Jacob has seen his favorite directors at their worst.
Despite Jacob's predictions, the guys talk the pleasant surprise of the Best Picture noms, Get Out. Both are elated at the success of Jordan Peele's smart, harrowing, and challenging crowd pleaser, though Aaron already has to vent about films "inspired" by it.
While David's away, Aaron and Jacob choose more actors that are consistently good, even if the movies they're in are not. Also, they have but one compliment to give the 50 Shades franchise, Aaron reveals his Before Trilogy existential crisis, and Jacob is definitely not of two minds about Jack and Jill in Bad Movie of the Week.
Aaron and Jacob look at one of the front runners for Best Picture, The Shape of Water. While both are charmed by Guillermo del Toro's offbeat fairy tale, they're still not sure what exactly the shape of water is. Heck, they can't even figure out a sensible shape for their fawning discussion!

Aaron talks the best owl-centric film he's ever seen, Jacob has FINALLY witnessed San Junipero (after his hand was forced), and David is Never Gonna Give his Breakfast Club reboot casting Up.
Continuing their look at the Best Picture nominees, the guys discuss Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk, or, as Jacob likes to call it, Anxiety: The Movie. The two are in agreement that it is a technical masterpiece, which is good, since Aaron doesn't want to hear "both sides" anyway.
It's a free-for-all as the guys pick their favorite action sequences in film, but they're able to settle on "blowing up Hitler" as a standard. The three also see no cure for the Maze Runner series' mediocrity, Aaron's picks win the Die Hard casting segment and David and Jacob think The Commuter...went off the rails...
With the Oscars on the horizon, Aaron and Jacob begin their look at the Best Picture nominees with Greta Gerwig's delightful Lady Bird. As probably expected from a film that expertly entwines so many emotions, experiences, and encounters, the two get a bit lost weaving their own backgrounds and beliefs into the discourse.
The guys reveal what upcoming films they're looking forward to, but, for the first year in a while, a Star Wars can't make the list. Also, Aaron wants 12 Strong's full title to get off its high horse, David finds The Shape of Water to be a bit murky, and Jacob can't catch them all when casting a Pokemon film.
Following the release of The Last Jedi, the guys look at Rian Johnson's earliest film. Aaron wants to talk about why the neo-noir high school drama is one of his favorite screenplays, but Jacob can't get a Phineas and Ferb song out of his head.
With another year behind them, the guys discuss the good, the bad, and the Bye Bye Man of the 116 movies they saw in 2017. Jacob has radio-man voice from being sick, so Aaron gleefully assumes hosting duties, while David gets a spotlight all his own...to talk Daddy's Home 2.
