The Platform is an unsubtle and disgusting film that confronts our acceptance of our toxic and abusive systems of power. It addresses in a terribly unsubtle way the false promises of trickle-down economics. And more importantly, leaves us with a hope for the future, one in which the children of tomorrow can break the system.

Tyree is the founder of the MANN UP Association, a peer support and empowerment group that does work both inside the walls of SCI Phoenix and on the outside to help those preparing for release. The Deep House follows a youtube couple who is known for exploring abandoned, creepy, and “haunted” places. They find themselves underwater, exploring an incredibly creepy house. Several red flags and warnings later, they become trapped. A fun found-footage-y film that triggered some of the Ghoul's fears (claustrophobia and underwater) but doesn't quite make it to our favorites list. Gabe has many questions and shares details on how this unique film was made. Kat talks about the real horrors of sunken cities that we are missing in this film.

Octavia Butler's Earthseed series (Parable of the Sower & Parable of the Talents) paints a grim near future. Protagonist Lauren Oya Olemina fights to survive and prevail in this hellscape America plagued by religious extremists, rampant illiteracy, intense violence, and more. Lauren has found the true form of god, that of change and seeks to share the words of Earthseed: the books of the living. Butler's work is a harrowing tale of a world, though alien to us isn’t too hard to imagine. It is the exaggerated, horrifying outcome of our current actions, almost a promise. Merry Christmas! Our 38th episode is about holiday Folklore! Ho Ho Ho! It’s the most wonderful time of the year! SIKE! It’s actually really scary. You all are familiar with Santy Claws, St. Nicholas, that bearded belly laughing red wearing jolly fellow. But did you know that there are a number of spooky characters that also exist around this joyous season. They work less on the whole “positive reinforcement” tactics of giving gifts to good kids and more on the “terrify kids into behaving tactic” by threatening them with death, usually a death caused from being eaten by a monster, to keep kids in line.
