A framework for doing social media videos

Want to feel more confident doing short videos?

You need a framework.

A framework isn't a script - it's a way of setting up your videos so they are:

  1. Easier to put together
  2. Easier to watch
  3. Easier for people to take action after watching them

This framework is based on Ray Edward's movie trailer structure, and has three elements:

a) The dominant story idea (DSI) b) The sample feelings c) Proof that it works

Use this for social media videos, short website videos, or any other short form video for your business.

EPISODE 46 - Brit and Shell from Pineapple Fitness

I met Brit and Shell one year ago. As soon as I stepped into their space I felt something different. They were incredibly welcoming, and they knew exactly what they were about in their business. I soon found out that the tight-nit community that these women have created together is incredible, and so I was excited in this episode to sit down and talk about this.

In a lot of businesses, the founder or owner will tell you that community is the thing that sets them apart, but a lot of the time, it's more of a lip-service to the word.

Pineapple Fitness is the real deal. Listen in as we talk about specific tools that they use to create this.

Episode 41 - Passion to business

We really need to be having more conversations around these things that we love. I speak to a lot of people who are sitting on a huge talent, and are thinking that one day they'd like to do something, but haven't raised their hand or started sharing their work. This is a little dive into the connection pillar and to use this powerfully - great for people who are starting out, or who are thinking about doing something for themselves down the line.

This is perhaps the single biggest differentiator between small business owners who execute well, and those who plateau or sit still.

When we work for someone else, it's pretty easy - there's an external agreement, or "contract" - we bring the right attitude. When we create our own project, this goes out the window - and we need to know how to work "for" and "with" ourselves. This is both a thought experiment, a practice and a way of working.

Episode 37 - The barrel of bourbon.

You'll notice that in a lot of episodes when I have a guest, I want to find out about their back story. I'm interested in context, this is how we relate as humans. So, I wanted to share this one with you as I think it is a super powerful tool if you are an owner or creator (or, if you just want to share your ideas more powerfully). When you can unlock your own story more easily and communicate with story itself, you'll find a golden thread that keeps giving.

Episode 31 - Find the friction.

Today we live in a culture that constantly looks to "remove" friction. Whether it's in automation, social media, dating apps or self-driving cars, we seem to eliminate the hard part wherever we can. The problem in business though, is this "hard part" is often where the edge is found. Here we talk about ways to look for the difficult areas and how it can possibly help you break through to the next level.

*There's a little "miss" in the audio at 6:24 on this one. It was recorded at Auckland Airport while in transit, and I'm not sure how it crept in. It resumes a couple seconds later.
