Attachment styles are everywhere these days—but what do they really mean for our relationships? Understanding your attachment style is the first step to healing patterns that keep love at arm’s length. When we learn how to cultivate secure attachment, we unlock the ability to create deeper, more lasting connections—starting with ourselves.

That’s why I decided to interview Relationship and attachment trauma Practitioner Bev Mitelman about BECOMING Securely Loved. She, like I, grew up in an environment that fostered disorganized attachment and dedicated herself to learning the skills to heal, grow, and create secure love. Our conversation is a deep dive into attachment styles, how they form, how they look and how you can develop more self awareness that leads to secure love.

Here’s what we cover in our interview:

What are attachment styles are and how do they impact our romantic relationships?

How does our childhood play a role in developing our attachment style?

How does being securely attached in your relationship with yourself set the foundation for healthier relationships with others?

Can you change your attachment style?

What are the beliefs and skills of securely vs. insecurely attached people?

Here’s Bev’s Free attachment style quiz!

https://securelyloved.com/attachment-quiz

More about Bev Mitelman:

As a child, Bev lived in a very unpredictable and chaotic environment where she never knew if she could rely on her parents to meet her emotional needs. This led her to absorb unhealthy relationship ideas based on what she was witnessing: she believed relationships were supposed to be unbalanced, uncertain, and overall chaotic. If you have an insecure attachment style, you probably relate to her experience, and navigating relationships can be particularly difficult for you.

Prior to becoming a Certified Attachment Practitioner and founding Securely Loved, Bev was an Executive Leader, University Lecturer and published author, having obtained her Masters' Degree in 2006. She has dedicated her entire career (25+ years) working with adults in the realm of personal growth and professional development.

Unfortunately, our world is becoming more polarized and people are arguing more now than ever. How do we stay connected to who we care about and what we care about at the same time?

That’s why I decided to interview Phyllis Levitt because she talks about how to navigate conflict in a healthy way: in our romantic relationships, families, and larger communities. Her latest book, "America in Therapy" is about bringing healing and conflict resolution to ourselves on a personal level; and our larger communities; and the relationship between the two.

Phyllis presents 6 principles for how to navigate conflict in a healthy way where both people feel connected even if they disagree. It’s also a framework to repair a conflict after it happens.

Here’s what we cover in our interview:

What struggles lead you to discover these 6 principles?

What are the principles and how do you apply them to transform conflict into connection?

What are the pitfalls around conflict?

What are the dangers for us personally and globally if we don't begin to make this connection?

What are the benefits and gifts?

Lois is giving away a free gift:

PDF called The 6 Secrets For Repairing Relationships After Conflict and a Conflict Type Quiz to help identify your conflict style: https://phyllisleavitt.com/wp-content/uploads/6-Secrets-to-Repairing-Relationships.pdf

More about Phyllis Levitt, in her words:

I am a psychotherapist of over thirty years and my own healing journey from childhood trauma took me deep into a spiritual connection that changed my life. What I realized at a critical point was that the ways I connect to spirit are influenced by my emotional health or ill health, and that healing emotional wounds became as much a part of my work as meditation and other practices. I now see them as intimately related. I wrote two books about my spiritual connection-- "A Light in the Darkness" and "Into the Fire" -- and my latest book, "America in Therapy" is about bringing psychological healing to ourselves and our nation and the relationship between the two. And it is my hope and my commitment that through healing our collective psychological make-up we can all be a part of the evolution of consciousness for the human race.

We’ve all heard about narcissism, and the typical advice is to leave because they can’t change. That is true most of the time and if you’re in a relationship with a Narcissist, I encourage you to get professional support.

However, some therapists who specialize in personality disorders have seen narcissists, with the right support, learn and grow into more empathic people who are capable of showing up with some self-awareness and care. This isn’t the majority, of course, and it’s not to minimize the abuse and hurt that narcissists cause to those closest to them. But if you have to relate to a narcissist, either through family, business, or some other obligation, it’s good to know what your options are.

That’s why I decide to interview Dr. Anthony Mazzella. He’s a psychoanalyst and psychotherapist specializing in personality disorders, including narcissistic and borderline pathology. He even hosts a podcast and video channel, called The Narcissism Decoder. He’s seen evidence of change in his practice and wanted to share his insights.

Here’s what we cover in his interview:

How do you know if the person you're with is on the NPD spectrum?

What are the typical painful cycles that people get caught in if they're in this type of relationship?

How do you know if they can change?

What are the ways that they can change? What is the best case scenario?

No matter how much we grow or achieve, sometimes just one little thing can spark feelings of insecurity or anger toward our partner. It happens to all of us because we carry those old childhood patterns that sneak up on us now and then.

The good news is there are so many ways to heal our inner child. When we work on that healing, we find ourselves getting triggered less often. We can stay present and keep our hearts open, even when we're feeling intense emotions like anger or shame. This makes it easier to communicate with kindness and keeps our relationships feeling truly connected.

Karoline Fischer is a medical doctor turned Hypnotherapist who specializes in healing the inner child through RTT Hypnotherapy. She has very transformative results in just a few sessions. That's why I decided to interview her about how both Hypnotherapy and other modalities like NLP can help to heal old wounds very quickly. She also shares tips that you can use right now to begin to heal those old triggers when they come up.

You can learn more about her work at https://www.whyhypnotherapy.com/

About Karoline FischerI am a trained MD that decided to train as an RTT Hypnotherapist as I found out personally how transformative this way of work is. I had worked my entire adult life with therapists for my own life and when I found methods that worked with the subconsciousness, transformation really started to happen in my life.

Meredith and Craig Bennett like to say they went from powerpoint to power couple: they left the 9-5 corporate grind to become full time entrepreneurs together, which wasn't easy, to say the least! Their journey is inspiring, which is why I decided to interview them.

Through the ups and downs of discovering how to create a business together, their marriage has been the foundation for everything they build in our lives.

Now they help others live their dream life and that starts with having that rock solid relationship. A relationship where you don’t have to spend valuable time and energy constantly repairing it. They love helping others get that part of their lives exactly where they’ve always wanted it, so they can crush the rest of their lives.

Here's what we cover in our interview:

  • How did they discover their passion for helping others improve their relationships?
  • What common relationship mistakes do they see couples making that they help them avoid?
  • What are some key strategies to strengthen foundation of your relationship?
  • How do you handle stress or difficult times in your business/marriage?
  • What is the #1 thing someone can do right now to improve their relationship?
  • What motivates them on days when they feel like giving up? How do they regroup?

More about Meredith and Craig Bennett:

We are Meredith & Craig, we left the 9-5 corporate grind, to become full time entrepreneurs.

...and had no idea what we were doing.

But we knew we were unhappy and unfulfilled in our corporate careers and that life is just too short to live that way, so we decided to make a massive change.

We wanted to be more intentional about building a life that we loved...instead of just the one we grew up believing we were destined for.

So, we went completely against our nature and decided to jump out of the plane and build our parachute on the way down.

Which made for some interesting, stressful, amazing, painful, insightful, scary, awful, awesome, unbelievable decisions, moments, experiences, relationships, and quite honestly, we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Through it all we’ve developed a growth mindset, and grew exponentially as individuals. We built businesses (most of which sucked). We got in the best shape of our lives in our forties...and did all of it while strengthening our marriage and making it bulletproof.

Our marriage is the foundation for everything we build in our lives. A thriving marriage is the cheat code for leveling up every other area of your life.

We help others live their dream life and that starts with having that rock solid relationship.

We love helping others get that part of their lives exactly where they’ve always wanted it, so they can crush the rest of their lives.

We've all heard that we need to love ourselves before we can love another person, but how do we do that? I read Dating and Relationship Coach Jonathon Aslay's book called "What The Heck Is Self-Love, Anyway?" and I thought that the concepts are simple but not easy...and the modern dating landscape is so fraught with challenges that it can seem like a pipe dream to maintain dignity in it.

Jonathon says that dating reveals the most common emotional health challenges we face: it's hard to stay in the game if we don't have high amounts of self-worth, self-regard, and self-love. So I called Jonathon back on my show to pick his brain about how he uses self-love practices to help singles over 40 cut through the crap and find lasting love.

Here's what we cover in our interview:

How does Jonathon define self love and know if you are really loving yourself?

What are the key mindsets that help us to have the ability to change old habits so we’re feeling more self-awareness, compassion, and love?

What are the layers of programming that we all have and how do self-awareness and personal responsibility help us peel back the layers to shift into self love?

How do you experience self-love even when you’ve been hurt or abandoned in a relationship or breakup?

Why do we need self-love in order to recognize red flags when you’re dating?

Follow Jonathon on YouTube for his free gifts: https://www.youtube.com/@JonathonAslay

More about Jonathon Aslay:

After losing his 19-year-old son Connor in 2018, Jonathon Aslay’s grief led him on a soul-searching inner journey, where he became aware of an often overlooked dimension of the dating conversation. He realized that the dating process reveals the most common emotional health issue faced by many singles seeking a partner: a distressing lack of self-worth, self-regard, and self-love. Today, he is on a mission of encouraging both men and women to fully love themselves with his new book, "What The Heck Is Self-Love Anyway?"— packed with fun, engaging spiritual and personal growth practices—and his dynamic Mid-Life Love Mastery mentorship program, which inspires hundreds of people daily around the world.

There's often a fear that strong, assertive women might intimidate men, especially when we're used to being in control. How can women embrace both their strength and femininity actually to enhance your allure and attract the right kind of man for you?

Those are exactly the kinds of questions that Dating and Love Coach Kate Houston tackles in her coaching so I knew I needed to bring her onto the Soul-Shaking Love podcast. She knows women feel frustrated and fed up with dating and that deep down they want to feel vibrant, fun and free in love. So I decided to pick her brain on how she does it!

Here is what we cover in our interview:

-How recalibrating one's 'man picker' helps women avoid the dating and relationship roller coaster and stop doubting their choices/stop settling.

-What does being a 'Gold Standard Woman' mean, and how does this concept empower women to attract and keep real love with a real man?

-How can embracing both strength and femininity actually enhance a woman's allure and attract the right kind of partner?

-What DO women have control over that Kate sees most women not tapping into?

-What is Your Bold Love Archetype and how can you use it to attract a high-value man?

Kate's Free Gift: What is Your Bold Love Archetype? https://katehoustoncoaching.aweb.page/p/3cd0a36c-5d40-4a83-a4de-2d890d07e97c

Take the quiz, attract real bold love. Voilà— you’ll unlock your specific Bold Love Archetype, your personal love persona. You'll get custom journal prompts too, ready to steer you through a game-changing journey that's all about upping your dating and love life, tailored just for you.
