Ep. 307 w/ Midori Hirano aka MimiCof & FPDJ Simon
Midori Hirano aka MimiCof is a Berlin-based musician, composer and producer. Her compelling fractal productions have been released by labels including Sonic Pieces, Daisart, Alien Transistor, Longform Editions, Dauw and Karlrecords. This weekend, we are honoured to share a mix from Midori of highly intuitive abstract music and some minimal electronic music. In the second half, FPDJ Simon delves into nocturnes.

This weekend on FPR, we air a takeover from Naarm-based angels Tyler and Bel.
Tyler and Bel are visual artists and selectors with an unboundaried approach to sound and era. They both have shows on Mouthfull - Tyler hosts the weekly broadcast Semi-Precious, whereas Bel hosts an infrequent show titled Some Times. On Episode 306, they share two mixes - the first explores music recorded in Denmark and Sweden between 1969 - 2022; the second captures music for dance and theatre.

Ep 303 w/ Baby Kiko & Atarangi
Baby Kiko is a London based deejay hailing from the south coast of Te Whanganui-a-Tara. In the first half, they share a musical journey from sunset to moonrise, replete with outernational rhythms and dynamic bass vibrations. Afterward, we hear an unapologetically high energy mix from Atarangi, a Takatāpui Māori interdisciplinary artist and deejay based in Tāmaki Makaurau.
Ep 302 w/ Malvern Brume & FP DJ Gus
Malvern Brume is a London-based musician and sound artist. His music, formed through experimentations with electronic instruments, field recordings, amplified objects and voice, has been released on Alter, TakuRoku, Kashual Plastik, and his own imprint Infant Tree. This weekend on FPR, he shares a textured and tonal mix for the first hour. Afterwards, we get weird with FP DJ Gus.

Tāmaki Makaurau-based DJ Aw B has secured a bi-monthly residency at Pōneke's Club 121. The series, named 'Aw B B2B', sees her invite a special guest or two to play an all night back-to-back set at the club. This weekend, we share a two hour excerpt from the first event from early June, when Aw B and Hurricane Emily combined forces for the first time.

This weekend, we celebrate three centuries of broadcasts with Maria Moles. Maria is a drummer, composer and producer based in Naarm. Alongside her solo releases, including this year's stunning album For Leolanda for Room40, Maria currently plays with Jaala, Ajak Kwai, and Doroth, and has previously collaborated with FP faves including Mildlife, Krakatau, and Jonnine. For FPR300, she shares a collection that celebrates percussion and groove within music, drawing from artists worldwide. After that, FPR mainstay Simon plays some brainstem soothers.

Next Thursday, SWAMP81 dons Patrice and Loefah throw down at Valhalla in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, care of Pressure and racquetclub. We kick things off on FPR this weekend with the justifiably sole support act BABETECH. After that, we hear from multidisciplinary artist and PRESSURE head honcho Samuel Forbes.

We kick off the next episode of Friendly Potential Radio with Brotherhoodjz, two Tāmaki Makaurau-based brothers who champion amapiano and afro-house in Aotearoa. After that, we hear from Mr. Meaty Boy, a multi-disciplinary Pōneke-based Māori artist who runs WAY.PNT and is renowned for their genre-jumping club sets

Ep 296 w/ Current Bias and AndWahn.
Current Bias is a Te Whanganui-a-Tara-based deejay and sound designer with a taste for incredible textures and hypnotising maximalism. Their efforts are well showcased on self-released EPs Doldrum.Eccos and Woes Of Subjectivity, and for labels like Strange Behaviour, racquetclub, Related Articles, Juke Bounce Werk, and Aunty Records. Tonight, they share a textured mix that traverses tempo and style.
AndWahn is a Tāmaki Makaurau-based producer and deejay who seeks to create emotive and driving rave music. They are currently readying the release of the Withdrawal EP, a follow-up to last year's debut Reach Out for Glass Half Full. In the second hour, Andy shares a mix that spans bass, breakbeat, electro, footwork, and jungle.

Last weekend, Friendly Potential hosted the wonderful Lauren Hansom in Auckland and Wellington. Tonight, we head back to the club, and hear the warm-up and closing sets from Saturday night at 121. We kick off with Simon ramping it up, and then close with Gus shutting it down.
Ep. 294 w/ Sandy B and Milch.
In 1994, Durban artist Sandy B released Amajovi Jovi. It was a six-track education on kwaito music, and a rare find, until Invisible City Editions lovingly reissued it in 2017. This weekend, Sandile schools us with bubblegum vs kwaito mix. Stunningly, it is full of shouts from other icons of the scene.
To round things out, we hear from one of our fave deejays - the Toronto-based Milch. Milch is a member of Invisible City Record Shop team and programmer for Invisible City Presents & Invisible City Radio. She shares a mix of bassy downtempo of all sorts, from sluggers and slammers to trip hop and chill-out.

Carlotta is a budding selectress with a jazz-oriented upbringing. She closes the show with an all-vinyl explorative homage to the finest house, electro, dub, and club mixes that she has heard in her city over the past year.

Faber Morrow is an Auckland based producer, dj, and founder of independent label centralaltsound aka CAS Records. CAS Records is focused on uplifting musicians & spreading a strong message of social awareness & political change. Tonight, Faber shares a series of potent tracks that have helped him through hard times of depression & anxiety.
Downstream, we hear from Poneke based DJ and promoter Lazy Daisy. Lazy Daisy has quickly developed a reputation for dark and stormy sets, which she's thrown down at festivals, clubs, and radio shows up & down Aotearoa. Maddie is also behind LOSST which hosts safer dancing experiences in Welli. Their next event is happening on the 29th April with Alice Agnes. Ep. 291 w/ Earthen Sea and Astrid Øster Mortensen.
Jacob Long has been crafting Earthen Sea material since the early 2000s. He gradually graduated from limited-edition cassettes to releases on Ital's Lover's Rock and Nicolas Jaar's Other People imprints, before linking up with the evergreen label Kranky in 2017. His third album for Kranky, Ghost Poems, comes out next week. We celebrate with an hour of music built as spring emerges around him in Brooklyn, full of contrasts between light and decay.
Astrid Øster Mortensen is a Denmark-born, Sweden-based experimentalist and musician, and is responsible for some of the most beautiful music around. This includes last year's Gro Mig En Blomst LP, and the recent album Skærgårdslyd, both rough-hewn and deeply personal journeys through the Gothenburg archipelago. She shares a hushed and haunting mix in the second half.
Ep. 290 w/ Julien Dyne
Julien is an Auckland-based sticksman to the stars and producer extraordinaire. His latest LP Modes is fresh out on Soundway Recordings, and continues his foray into kaleidoscopic percussive soundscapes. He also has an incredible record collection, which he showcases over two hours. It's a big show!
Ep. 289 w/ Emissive
This weekend, Emissive takes over Friendly Potential Radio. The Toronto-based deejay and producer has put out wonderfully textured work on the ever reliable Pacific Rhythm, both solo and alongside his friend Ian as Active Surplus. His recent City Of Rooms LP is also a big spin at FPHQ, and is about to get a well-deserved vinyl release by Telephone Explosion Records. Prepare yourself for a two hour hypnotic jaunt from a special talent.
Ep 288 w/ Jerry Watts and Dudley Benson.
Jerry Watts is a Pōneke-based producer and DJ. At present, he is releasing music through the Strange Behaviour label and co-hosts the show 'Wingdings' on Mouthfull radio with Ludus. In the first hour, Jerry shares a club-focused mix that includes some of his forthcoming productions. In the second hour, Jerry is joined by Dudley Benson, an avant-pop songwriter and producer based in Ōtepoti. The duo have put together a conceptual ambient mix that follows the journey of snow and ice from the mountains through a river to a lake.
Ep 287 w/ Knopha and Sam Harmony.
Knopha is a Xiamen-based deejay and producer. We have been long enamoured by his restorative and uplifting productions, as showcased on the Nothing Nil, Gym, and Millennium Affair EPs. He is also behind BAIHUI 百会, an online radio station that connects diverse music communities through China and beyond. Tonight, he blesses us with an hour of music for midnight. After that, Sam shares sounds that shimmer.
Ep. 286 w/ The Behuá Icára Takeover
We hand over Episode 286 to the co-founders of non-profit label Behua Icara. From their base in Lima, Perú, Behuá Icára supports and collaborates with the Shipibo Konibo Xetebo community in the Amazon, as well as producers from Perú, South America and the rest of the world. We kick off the show with a slow-burning mix from Daniel Holguin aka Aristidez , a producer and deejay, who also curates infamous party Casalocasa . After that, we hear a ramping mix of producers from Latin America and elsewhere from Mariano León.
Ep. 285 w/ O.D.O.O. and Sam Harmony
O.D.O.O. is a deejay and musician from Barcelona. He is a resident of Sala Taro, and bassist for post-punk outfit Plataforma. In this broadcast, he shares a grunty mix that veers from dub to trippy techno, taking in percussive passages and acid sounds along the way. After that, FP DJ Sam Harmony plays some gems.
Ep. 284 w/ Joyul and Scarlett.
Joyul is a musician and producer based in Seoul. Over six years, she has developed a unique sound derived from ambient recordings, voice, guitar, and synthesis. This was showcased on Earwitness, her debut album released last year on the ever-reliable label Psychic Liberation. In the first hour, she broadcasts an array of immersive work, including pieces from her South Korean contemporaries. In the second hour, Scarlett shares an ambient mixtape.

Marielle is a deejay and broadcaster based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara. She hosts Archive Quality each fortnight on Mouthfull, a show that comprises thematically driven explorations of the electronic spectrum. Tonight, she explores the liminal space between summer excess and the working grind. After that, Simon idles at the intersection of art and technology.

This time, we shine the spotlight on two acts on the rise.
Jefferson King and Samuel White are a Tamaki-based b2b duo. They comprise the Arts & Crafts Collective, and have hosted a series of intimate daytime parties at sonic haven Lot23. They start the show with an hour of shimmering home-listening. After that, we hear from South America-via-Wellington deejay Luna Arango, who is gaining quick traction with her percussive club sets.
We're blessed to be starting our 2022 radio series with a takeover from the mighty Gavsborg. Over two hours, the Equiknoxx Music family member shares edits and tunes that have been on high rotate.
Ep. 278 w/ deepState and Wandlung.
deepState is a producer from Tāmaki Makaurau. Their recent releases - the MMXXI EP via Sunreturn, and their self-released Deep Summer EP - are superb efforts with the spirit of 90s downtempo and garage coursing through them. We start the show with a blend of her current faves.
After that, we head to Stadecken-Elsheim in Germany to hear from the enigmatic label Wandlung. Wandlung is run by Morten B. and J. Wassenberg. Morten enjoys coffee, kebap, jazz and football, while Joscha is into programming and playing table games like Wizard or Catan. They are also behind some amazing techno 12s, which have filled a Chain Reaction shaped void in our lives. They close the show with an out of this world mix.
Ep. 277 w/ 48sonic.
We share a mix from the original Aotearoa junglist - 48sonic. 48sonic has been there from the start, via his residency at Auckland's first D'n'B night 'The Breaks', and his seminal show on bFM from 1996 to 2006. He digs deep in the crates for an hour. Gus rounds out the show with some captivating and charismatic music.
Ep. 276 w/ Kaishandao and ajhoneysuckle.
Kaishandao is a Pōneke-born, Chengdu-based musician and producer, who is behind the online portal and touring company Kiwese. A few months ago, she self-released the Homeland EP, an enigmatic debut that seems to wed hypnagogic memories to the pulse, structure and dynamics of dance music. She shares a mix made during an unexpected two-week hotel quarantine, which shifts from slowburning melancholy to meditative rhythms and emotional bops.
To close, we hear from ajhoneysuckle, a Tainui/Samoan deejay based in Ōtautahi. Her sets centre nostalgic melodies, rhythmic breaks, and big basslines, and have quickly seen her get booked for some of the bigger parties across Aotearoa. Tonight, she shares a mix that focuses on the darker elements of Drill, Grime, Dub, and Hip-hop before transitioning into high energy UK-inflected sounds.
Ep. 275 w/ Son of Sesh and Marcus Philippe.
A few years ago, Son Of Sesh relocated from Pōneke to Amsterdam. He has upped the ante since then, picking up residencies on Echobox Radio and at the Textures club-night, and having his dubs aired on Subtle Radio and Balamii. Last week, racquetclub released his debut Surface EP. We celebrate with a mix of his own productions interspersed with future soundsystem classics.
Tāmaki Makaurau-via-London creative Marcus Philippe made his production debut with a track on JUBILEE's stunning Magic City compilation in 2018. He recently released the Warmth EP, a dubby and textured three-tracker that has quickly become one of FPHQ's favourite local releases of the year. Marcus joins us with a mix that stitches together deep grooves from three decades of dance music.
Ep 274 w/ DJ Voices (NY)
DJ Voices is the moniker of Kristin Malossi. She's a resident and the booker at Nowadays, a co-founder of Working Women, and hosts Nothing In Moderation on The Lot Radio and the audio extension of her party series Blue Enough on Noods Radio. Her style is inimitable, wide-reaching while keeping sights focused on the dancefloor. Tonight, we air an almost experimental mix where Kristin explores a few different themes and then mashes it together. It will be an unmissable two hours.
Ep 273 w/ Skymning and FP DJ, Simon.
Over the past decade, Skymning has released a steady stream of dense textural electronic music. This music has evolved from pockets of ambience created in hometown Te Whanganui-a-Tara to sharper dance-oriented breakbeats informed by years digging though record stores in London. Next Friday, he unveils his largest body of work - RELENTLESS - via Bankrupt Worldwide. We celebrate this release on Friendly Potential Radio tonight with a mix full of low-end pressure and unreleased compositions.

For the last decade, Moondog immersed herself in the thriving electronic music scene in Melbourne. Now, the DJ and producer calls Ōtepoti home. She kicks off the first hour with grit and glamour, before handing the reins over to Aotearoa-via-Naarm DJ Sook for some low-end pressure.
In the second hour, we hear the raw b2b power of Emelyne and Kassie. Alongside their individual renown (check Emelyne's contribution to the longstanding PBS staple blend), the pair's 420 sessions as $R$ BZN$$ for Skylab Radio have cult status. Prepare yourself for a hypnotically charged space.
Ep 271 - The Mario Cotto Takeover
Between 2007 and 2020, Mario Cotto spent virtually every Saturday night in the basement studios of KCRW in Los Angeles, broadcasting his Psychedelic Service to listeners worldwide. The show was an eclectic mix of punchy dance music, psychedelic rock, 70s AM gold, 80s synth, eccentric world music and ambient freakouts. It was a reign that sadly ended with the first lockdown. Tonight, we welcome him back to the air. For two hours, experience a heady trip inspired by Warp's Artificial Intelligence comps, KLF's Chill-Out, and something like a Late Night Tales colliding with a Sublime Frequencies compilation.
