Utah Navajo Trust Fund has accepted to enter into discussions with the San Juan School Board to build a much needed elementary school. The existing aging Bluff Elementary School has waste management issues for its Navajo majority student population.

Bluff Elementary School has problems fulfilling the requirements for Wastewater Collection, Treatment and Disposal Systems.
Failures to the waste management system for the school have
been reported to have backed up sewage.
The latest reported student enrollment is 110+ students, 92%
are Native American. Nearly a 50% increased enrollment from the past 3 years.
The number of students increasing are outgrowing the size of
the existing school.
IF no new school is built, students would then have to be
bussed to Blanding or Montezuma Creek schools should the current Bluff
Elementary School be shutdown.
San Juan School District originally proposed to construct a
new school west of Bluff on purchased land, however possible archaeological
sites on the purchased land have stalled that effort. Navajo Utah Commission
passed a resolution demanding San Juan School District find another site for
the badly needed school.
