This summer we have seen a rise in social justice conversations and have witnessed many issues regarding diversity, inclusion and equity plastered in the headlines. Keeping with the social climate, this special edition series of Charge Up Charge On provides commentary on the topics of diversity, equity and inclusion by talking with various students, faculty and staff across UAH's campus to clarify what these topics mean, how they relate to the higher education setting, how it relates to UAH and resources Chargers have. In part 1, we get to hear from ODEI's Karessa Acosta-Lee & Devin Townsend, as well as an ODEI student ambassador, Amber Hinton.
This week we take a look at Phase 2 of Class of 2024 Orientation and what that includes with a conversation with OL Coordinators, Heather Hunt and Alex Olmeda-Rodriguez. We also spoke with OLLI Program Manager, Ale Pacheco about UAH's OLLI Program. That's not it though! Huntsville.IO co-founders Shelby Larson and Madison Travis joined in to talk about the newly launched Defense Marketing company and UAH's i2C.
This week, we get the opportunity to hear from all of the Greek Councils about the upcoming recruitment season and how COVID-19 might affect it. While much is still yet to be solidified, Ally Amoroso (NPC), Michaela Dent (NPHC) and Will McCormick (IFC), provide insight on how each council is moving forward with planning for the recruitment season in the Fall. Lastly, we caught up with Dr. Jennifer Sims and Dr. Christina Steidl from the Sociology department about how the pandemic is affecting dating and other sociological impacts.
