After 28 weeks walking through Romans together, Pastor Rick brought the series home at CrossPoint Church with a sweeping look back before landing on Paul's final words to the believers in Rome. Paul writes not as a distant theologian but as a man overwhelmed by privilege — the privilege of carrying the Good News to people who need it.
His message is as simple as it is staggering: every one of us stands separated from God, cut off by our own sin. But Christ did not leave us there. He died to pay a debt we could never repay, and in doing so, He gave us power over sin itself — power to walk in a relationship with God that is rich, real, and unbroken, both now and forever.
It's a message that leaves only one response: gratitude. Grace like this, mercy like this, isn't something we earn. It's something we simply receive — and thank God for.
Paul is finishing up his letter to the Roman believers and continues to pound the drum of generosity, prayer and love in spite of never being at their church. The apostle Paul talks about the 3 pillars of discipleship. We walk with God and develop our character first. Then we become a student of the Scriptures and understand its truths and doctrines. Lastly we teach others or instruct others about ministry. We model how to make disciples and then pass the baton on so others make disciples. Paul talks to mature followers of Jesus and encourages them to focus on others. Life is about helping others and building them up in the faith. Paul reminds us that God receives glory when His church is unified. Paul talked about being charitable toward those who believe
differently on the non-essentials and to refrain from ridiculing or
condemning them for their beliefs or practices. He encouraged the Roman Christians to aim for harmony in the church and try to build each other up. If I could sum up Paul's thoughts: "In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity." Pastor Rick spoke this message at CrossPoint Church.
The Apostle Paul sensed the believers in Rome didn't understand the urgency or the importance of loving others well. In fact, his final rationale for living a life of love and holiness is an eschatological one: Jesus is coming back… soon, SO BE READY! Paul shares in Ephesians 5 and 6 that walking with the Spirit changes the way we treat people... because we start treating them like Jesus would. Paul encourages fathers/parents NOT to provoke your children, but to raise them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Dads are not only able to give a snapshot of what God looks like to their kids, but also have the privilege of setting them up well for the future. In the middle of the loving others well section, the Apostle Paul commands every believer in Romans 13:1-7 to submit to governing authorities because all authority comes from God and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God. Never take revenge but leave vengeance to the righteous anger of God... Why, because God's wrath is always redemptive and ours isn't. Listening to God means we will love others well, including our enemies. People will be drawn to God. There is something undeniably beautiful about the way of life Paul describes
here. Its selfless simplicity has a quality that transcends any particular time or
culture — something that people across vastly different societies would

Paul unpacks from Romans 12:11-13 more of what loving others well looks like. We'll see that this kind of love isn't passive — it's hard work that glorifies God and stretches our faith. It demands patience, humility, and lots of prayer. We can only conclude that serving others, which is sacrificial, Christlike love, is very dear to the heart of God, something to be applauded in our community. After sharing life changing doctrinal truths in Romans 1-11, Paul begins to share with us how living sacrifices live. He said they love others with genuine affection and take delight in honoring each other. This can only happen if believers walk with God and let the Holy Spirit change them from the inside out. Paul begs the Roman believers to give their bodies to God as a living and holy sacrifice. The apostle wanted them to stop letting the culture influence them and let God's Word transform them from the inside out. Paul hoped every believer in Rome would enjoy God and walk in His ways. Jesus told His disciples about the cross and His resurrection, but when the time came... some remembered His words, some wondered about His words and others thought it was nonsense. Jesus chose to go to the cross so that we could live abundantly and eternally.

Jesus, the King of Kings, humbly rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. This confused the crowds simply because Kings aren't humble and don't act like this. But Jesus obeyed and trusted His good Father's plans and timing. He modeled for us what it looks like to walk with God and inspired us to live humbly. Here's what we know: God is working everything out for the good of His kids. This isn't random. Before any of us existed, he already knew us and had a plan: to shape us into the likeness of his Son, so that J would be the firstborn of a huge, growing family. The endwelling Spirit transforms us from the inside out. He is not merely a resource we consult when it suits us. Paul acknowledges that suffering is part of the believer's experience, but insists it is incomparable to the glory that awaits. He points to the full experience of God's presence and goodness that lies beyond this life, and to the complete realization of our adoption as God's children — which includes the redemption of our bodies. Romans 8 will change your life. The Spirit’s life-changing power is available to every believer, since every believer is indwelt by the Spirit. The Apostle Paul teaches that while the Old Sin Nature has been put to death in believers, they continue to wrestle with the Flesh and may yield to its temptations. Pastor Rick interprets Paul's words in Romans 7:14-25 as a reflection on a period when Paul was disconnected from God—a frustrating season marked by attempts to live righteously apart from the Holy Spirit's presence and empowerment. Paul says our old sin nature is dead and that we have a new master. Our flesh is still active, but it has no power over a believer. Believing that our sin is no longer our master and staying connected with God will help us obey and enjoy our new Master. Our old sin nature is dead which means we do not have to struggle with sin... but so many do. Paul helps us understand that our struggle is with the Flesh and that we can win the battle. Breaking free from sin's lies, means we must by faith acknowledge that sin has no power over us and yield completely to God. Pastor Rick covers Romans 6:1-4 where the Apostle Paul begins his section on Holiness. Paul clearly states that believers have died to the authority that sin used to have in our lives. We have a new master and do not need to submit to our old master. God's grace frees us from the penalty of sin and from the power of sin. The prophets foretold that Messiah would someday come to restore our world, judge sin and reward the faithful. Jesus told His disciples that he would return and so did a plethora of New Testament authors. The second coming is a sure promise from God that anchors Christian hope and shapes how believers live today… not as date-watchers, but as people committed to faithfulness, service and readiness. Mary didn't know exactly what being the son of God's mom would look like, but she knew and trusted God for her future. Mary and Joseph's obedience grew their faith in their heavenly Father. God arranged Simeon and Anna to confirm God's perfect plan of having Jesus reared by Mary and Joseph and that Jesus was the savior of the World. Mary and Joseph travel to Bethlehem where she gives birth to Jesus laying him in a manger. God sent an angel to a group of shepherds with the good news that the Messiah was born. The shepherds found Mary, Joseph and Jesus and left telling everyone about the angels and Jesus. Their lives were changed. God's plans and timing is perfect even when they don't make sense to us. Mary and Joseph trusted God and responded quickly to His Word... Zechariah didn't. Zechariah was a priest and should have known better, yet these two teenagers showed us what faith and obedience looks like. We also learned that Mary lived with Elizabeth for 3 months before going back to Nazareth. Elizabeth's encouragement was just what Mary needed. It is exciting to hear stories of teenagers who know and love the Lord. Joseph believed and acted on what he had heard from the angel, taking Mary as his wife and resolving to serve as her advocate through the weeks, months, and years ahead of potential ridicule by those who didn’t have the privilege of a heavenly revelation. Mary was raised in a normal Hebrew village which prepared her for the mission God had designed for her. Normal simply meant that she was tutored in the Torah and understood the Messianic prophecies. We learned that the church and the training of children are critical. We learned that God and is Word never fails and that obedience is never easy street. In Romans 5:12-21, Paul explains that Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone who trusts Christ as savior. God’s wonderful grace rules giving us peace with God in spite of our sin. God promises that whoever receives His free gift of salvation will live in triumph over sin and death. When a person puts their faith in Jesus as their savior, God graciously saves them. The salvation that believers receive is robust and comes with a plethora of benefits. Abraham was justified by faith not because he was circumcised or that he obeyed the law. Jesus paid for our sin and satisfied God's wrath on the cross so we can trust Him to save us. God applauds faith, not works. Pastor Rick spoke this message to CrossPoint Church.
Paul takes one more stab at letting the Jews understand that they stand condemned before God just like everyone else. Then... Romans 3:21 explodes with a BUT NOW! Paul focuses on God's love and mercy while providing acquittal if one trusts Jesus as their savior. Great news comes out of the bad news found in Romans 1-3. 8 people were baptized today. 8 people told everyone about their faith in Jesus. The enemy will now focus on 8 people more. The enemy always tries to discourage and derail anyone who walks with God. Yes, the enemy is formidable, not invincible. So put on the armor and use the weapons that God has given each and every believer. Let's cling to our Lord and watch the enemy fall. The Apostle Paul boldly proclaimed that both the Jews who had the Scriptures and those who only had their moral compasses would be held accountable and judged. God is Holy, Just and Loving. Because God is holy and just... His wrath is being unleashed against all sin and wickedness, but because God is love, He says He will take the punishment. Thank you Jesus for being our savior and restoring our relationship with God.

God’s love, mercy, justice, power, kindness and grace has captured Paul. He is overwhelmed by God's grace. Life is hard for the church in Rome, so he wants to encourage the believers there. Romans is Paul's magnum opus where he identifies our essential beliefs & our mission.
The CrossPoint church mission is... To teach people how to know, obey and enjoy Jesus Christ in order to share Him with others. Jesus gave His disciples their marching orders right before He ascended into heaven... Make disciples and teach them to obey all the commands I have given you. Jesus even promised to be with them during their mission. The disciples listened and the church was born. We still have the same directive and promise. Jesus told us that the greatest commandment was to Love God and love others. In fact He said that every commandment in the Scriptures is based on these two commands. Jesus saw that the crowds were tired, weary and burdened. Jesus invited the throngs to a relationship with Him and to be yoked up with Him on their journeys. Jesus is asking us to do life with Him. To do your journey with the smartest, strongest and wisest leader. Truly this is the great invitation!
God's community makes God's Word a priority. The Hebrews just finished rebuilding the temple and restoring the wall. They gathered as Ezra read the Word, as the Levites read and explained the Word and as Ezra studied the Word with the leadership (religious and family). Worship, praise, confession, tears and joy erupted. God's Word changes our lives... but the lack of listening plummets us quickly to a life of pain and misery. God stirred both the heart of Nehemiah and a King in order to accomplish His will. God chose Nehemiah to rebuild the broken wall of Jerusalem because he depended upon God for strength, wisdom and protection. Nehemiah rallied the residents in spite of opposition and repaired the walls giving God all the glory. We can learn much about leadership and followership from this cup-bearer. Pastor Rick left the Daniel study and opened up an Ezra/Nehemiah study. He focused on God's faithfulness and how he stirred the hearts of kings, priests, neighbors, Israelis, enemies, teachers, builders and prophets in order to move His agenda forward. Walking with God is an adventure while walking away from God is hurtful to yourself, others and God himself. Gods gracious hand is on us whether or not we see it. Daniel saw God clearly resulting in Daniel seeing sin clearly. This affected Daniel's life and his prayer. We examined Daniel's prayer in Daniel 9, where we saw that Daniel adored God, resulting in a consistent practice of confessing sin and repenting. We are so grateful for Daniel's example of a man whose rich relationship with God changed his life. Pastor Rick ended by challenging the CrossPoint community to pray for 10 minutes during this next week for our church and our nation.
God gives Daniel a vision which helps him understand what the future will look like. Even though Daniel wants more details, God firmly says that Jesus will return while the world is a mess, that He will judge the nations eventually enjoying His Kingdom with His family forever. 80 year old Daniel still trusts God. He is convinced that God's timing and plans are best... both for him and to bring God glory. Daniel feared God, not man or lions in this case. God opposes the proud. King Nebuchadnezzar was proud. We often are proud. We have a good Father who always acts on our behalf. His timing and plans are perfect. But, there are times we trust in ourselves rather than in God. Nebuchadnezzar learned the hard way... which no one likes. God is faithful and wants us to trust His timing and plans. Shadrach, Meshack and Abednego did not bow to Nebuchadnezzars idol. They trusted God for deliverance from the king whether or not they would be delivered from the furnace... but God did deliver them from the flames. Daniel 3 is about our commitment to knowing and obeying God's Word, about trusting God's timing and plans and about God's presence being enough. God used Daniel to tell King Nebuchadnezzar his dream and what it meant. Daniel was a hero, but gave God all the credit! We can learn so much from this humble young man who walked with God, prayed and used his gifts to bring God glory. Pastor Rick shared this message with CrossPoint Church
Daniel determined in his heart to obey God and trusted God to take care of the details. Daniel did not compromise which we often have the tendency to do. Partial obedience is really compromise. Faith in a God who reigns changes the way we live. Pastor Rick taught this text at CrossPoint Church.
Pastor Rick helps us understand Daniels world and Daniels God. His life was unfair, yet he will serve as a powerful example of how a faithful person thrives while living in the midst of a hostile culture. He teaches us to live in the way of the exile… which is living with the tension of loyalty and subversion.
Jesus taught about His resurrection but the disciples didn't get it so when it happened they were bewildered and filled with fear. Eventually, they met the risen King and they believed and changed a world. Paul talked about the importance of the resurrection in 1 Corinthians. Pastor Rick ended in John 8 when Jesus told everyone He is the Light of the World. Thank you Lord for loving us and showing us what loving others looks like.
Jesus continues to teach His disciples right up to the cross. In our Scripture, Jesus tells us that loving God changes our giving and our perspective on suffering. He gives examples of sacrificial giving and then warns about staying the course during the tough times disciples will endure before Jesus returns as King. Time is short for Jesus. He reminds the disciples and shares six truths for them to remember. Jesus wanted the disciples to focus on God's mercy, to submit to the government, to know that heaven and our heavenly bodies will be different, that they are to love God and others well and that they should practice what they preach. Jesus followers will think and act differently if you walk with the King. Pastor Rick shares in Mark 10 that Jesus taught His disciples that your marriage will look different, the way you treat children and the insignificant will be different, when you receive reward will be different and the way you lead will be different. After spending almost three years with Jesus, Peter finally gets it. He declares Jesus King, the Messiah, Israel's anointed one. But Peter quickly falls off the pedestal by reprimanding Jesus, who had embraced God's plan for his life. Wow, disobedience means shifting our allegiance to Satan rather than to God. Pastor Blake teaches from Mark 8:11-26 where we find Jesus talking about hard and soft hearts. Hard hearts are blind to Christ. The hard hearted have their hearts set on the circumstances rather than their God. It is the folks with soft hearts who can see their faith grow and God move. Jesus does a short term mission trip deep into Gentile territory. Jesus announced that the Kingdom had come for the Gentiles. His disciples realized that evangelism is both uncomfortable and sacrifical... but worth it. Pastor Rick shared this message to CrossPoint Church.
Moses told the Jews in Deuteronomy 10 what God is asking them to do... fear the Lord your God, and live in a way that pleases him, and love him and serve him with all your heart and soul. Jesus addressed the Pharisees and teachers of the law in Mark 7. He basically said they were more concerned about keeping man-made religious traditions and looking good on the outside than guarding their hearts. The disciples are thick headed... not grasping what Jesus is teaching them. Jesus sends them into a stormy sea and He goes to the hills to pray. God sent an angel to a group of shepherds to announce the Messiah's birth. The humble shepherds were the first to see the Messiah and spread the news of His arrival. Fear is normal at times, but abnormal when you have a rich relationship with God. Mary, Joseph and Jesus all listened when God told them NOT TO BE AFRAID. Trusting their good good Father made all the difference.
After 400 years of silence, God sent Jesus, the messiah to save us from our sins. God is faithful and always at work even during times when we feel abandoned. There are times we need to listen and obey God's Word in spite of how we feel so our faith muscles grow in God's perfect timing and plans. God has come to redeem creation from evil and to establish His kingdom on earth. This passage not only showcases Jesus’ incomparable might, it also highlights His mercy, gentleness, sensitivity, and loving-kindness. Jesus said that the parable of the soils was critical to understand if you want to understand his other parables. Jesus asked his audience to listen up and pay attention to His words. Jesus challenged us to sow and be the rich soil. You will never regret listening to Jesus.
Jesus was misunderstood by the crowds, the religious and even his family. Jesus had a plan and was on mission and it still includes you and me.
Jesus was angry and sad toward the Pharisees and their legalism. Their hard hearts kept them from a rich relationship with God.

God loves us. As we walk with Jesus, the Spirit enables believers to supernaturally and sacrificially love others like Jesus. Since God’s love is no longer visible in the presence of the incarnate Christ here on earth, God is manifesting His love through His people. What a privilege and a responsibility!
Love one another. Love others sacrificially like Jesus loved us. If you weren't sacrifical, you didn't love. If you don't love your brothers, it's like you have murdered them. Jonah is angry at God for gracing the evil Assyrians. Jonah was not grasped by grace. So odd for a preacher not to rejoice in the repentance of Nineveh. We all need to be grasped by grace.
Jonah listens to God, preaches His Word and the whole city repents. God uses flawed messengers proclaiming the inspired Word of God to change our culture.
God extends grace to Jonah by having him swallowed by a great fish. Jonah knew that salvation comes from the Lord... but after spending some time in the belly Jonah KNOWS that salvation comes from the Lord ALONE.
