SHOW NOTES

Why do our over-ambitious goals tend to hurt us, rather than fulfill us?

  • January is a great starting line and that’s what we love, but should we only start in January?  Once we miss the first step we think we have to take on the shame that comes with missing a goal, but in reality it's that shame that separates us from our goals.
  • Your goals need to be measurable and specific.

Why is it so important to set both short term and long term goals?

  • Miscalculated steps. Reverse engineering is how you set a goal and work backwards from it in order to see the steps necessary to accomplishing it.
  • Celebrate the journey along the way, don't over-celebrate, but have fun!
  • If you are doing it right your goal should continue to develop.

Don't compare your goals to anyone else’s but your own.

  • Compete with your own best PR (personal record) and focus on what you want success to be for you. It will look different for everybody.
  • You can become inspired or even encouraged by others  (Roger Bannister) First person to run a 4 minute mile. Only 46 days after the record was broken again.
  • Things don’t change unless you do.
