We all favour a sense of healthy self-esteem, but improving anything it  seems to be surprisingly tough for some people. Of all the judgements we make in life, none is more important than the judgements we make about ourselves. The need for positive self-esteem comes with psychological growth and the desire to trust ourselves.

Interestingly, self-esteem has little to do with one’s ACTUAL talents or abilities. Someone who is talented from a particular perspective it may help with self-esteem, while someone who is struggling terribly can actually have good self-esteem. Self-esteem seems to work as a state of mind. How is this possible?

The creation of our self-esteem continues to form into adulthood, right through our successes or failures, and the messages we receive from our environment tend to affect us. We tend to form an “inner voice” which repeats these messages later in life, either in an accepting and reassuring form or in a heavy, blaming or punishing form.

Self-hypnosis techniques can be used to program your unconscious mind with affirmations and suggestions. You can use this as an effective technique for building your esteem and self-confidence. Hypnosis is a natural state of mind – one of focused concentration, and it will help you to transform your life. It is one of the best tools when it comes to building your sense of self-worth & confidence.

Is running a small business for you?

A long-time friend of mine – who has been successfully running his own small business for many years, recently said:.

“My ideal small business is THE place where you can even take the family dog to the office, whenever YOU choose to do so.”

Well, that is perhaps, one way of looking at it – but I feel that there are several other perspectives to take into account as well.

Owning & running a small business can be very rewarding – both personally and financially.

BUT that is only if you are prepared to apply what it takes to succeed.

Over the next weeks and months, together with some specially invited guests – subject experts in their own right – I will be giving you all the know-how you will need to embark, or not - on the road leading to the running of your own small business.

The necessity of change being forced upon us by Covid-19

One may ask: How one can still enjoy the new life by a change of attitude & routine.

As I sit today in my office contemplating the enormous change that has suddenly been brought about in my daily life, unable to move around as one would normally have done – all arising from the necessity to self-quarantine.

This, all simply to avoid the alarming prospects of the COVID–19 virus, I’ve realised that one will need to change the normal routines to preserve a semblance of “sanity” engendered by years of practice.

For close on eight years, unlike many others, I have been working as an online assessor for an entrepreneurial development company. So, being at home is not a change, but having lost my job, I have now been forced to change the routines and the way that I earn my income.

Living as I do, in a Retirement Home, one would expect me to have retired – but both the words age and retirement do not figure in my vocabulary. Many people view retirement as a time to get out and travel, & follow a hobby that was not always possible because of time limitations.

I can already see that many people, who are not retired, will have to drastically change their routine because they cannot go out socially, meet visitors, travel in the bus or train, or visit a local eatery.

So, what is the answer? Indeed, apart from my immediate change in routine, marking papers every day, I am now passionate about producing a “Podcast a day.”

That got me thinking – what do the people do who do not know what to do with their free time now? So, I put my mind into doing some sensible research, to help those – possibly like yourself – who need to make their days more meaningful and possibly even productive.

Many people experience poor sleeping patterns, and rather than take sleeping pills, hypnosis, correctly used, is very powerful and non-invasive. Indeed, sleep is not a uniform state of being. Instead, sleep is composed of several different stages that can be differentiated from one another by the patterns of brainwave activity that occurs during each stage. These changes in brain wave activity can actually be visualised using EEG, and are distinguished from one another by both the frequency and the amplitude of brainwaves.

Following upon that, hypnosis is a state of extreme self focus and attention in which minimal attention is given to external stimuli. In a sleep inducing session, the hypnotist will often use relaxation and suggestion in an attempt to be part of the thoughts and perceptions of a subject. For individuals who are specially open to the power of suggestion, this can prove to be a very effective technique.

Historically, hypnosis has been viewed with some suspicion because of its portrayal in popular media and entertainment. Therefore, it is important to make a distinction between hypnosis as an empirically-based therapeutic approach, versus a form of entertainment. Moreover, contrary to popular belief, individuals undergoing hypnosis usually have clear memories of the body experience and are fully in control of their own behaviour. Whilst hypnosis may be useful in enhancing memory or a skill, advancements are very modest in nature

JOIN US MAKING PROGRESS. JUMP PROJECT by Colin Dovey

In South Africa today, in fact the whole of southern Africa, which encompasses Zimbabwe, Botswana, Swaziland, Mozambique and Angola, we are jointly faced with a unique set of serious problems, ALL of which are having a major impact on the daily lives of local inhabitants.

This massive problem involves a range of very basic issues, which embrace the following:.

  • The availability of fresh drinking water.

  • Reliable electrical power.

  • Basic needs food production – for both animal & human consumption.

Then, thinking further down the line, we need to address some chronic, ongoing employment issues, which embrace, inter-alia the following:.

* Technical training – in other words, apprentices in the various trades, for example electricians, fitters, plumbers & boilermakers.

This is a very worrying aspect of life today in southern Africa when you consider the extremely high levels of unemployment, which in South Africa alone is now well over 6 million souls!

Over a long period of time this get me thinking about possible solutions, and over this time I've come up with what I call, somewhat euphemistically, the JUMP project – "Join Us Making Progress"

To bring it all into focus SEVERE DECLINES have recently been recorded in the trades, manufacturing and utilities sectors - as a result of severe electricity power cuts.

People who have STOPPED looking for work consists of a shocking 39% overall – and youth unemployment was a staggering 58% - so I urge you to listen to my podcast to get the full picture and help us move towards finding a viable solution.
