Each year over 460,000 children in the United States are thrust into court through no fault of their own. Some are victims of violence, psychological torment or sexual abuse. Others have been neglected or even abandoned by their own parents. Most of them are frightened and confused.
Often, these children also become victims of this country’s overburdened child welfare system –
a complex legal network of lawyers, caseworkers and judges who frequently are too
overburdened to give thorough, detailed attention to each child who comes before them.
The consequences can be severe.
All children deserve a safe, permanent home!
Every year Colorado spends over $350 million on prisons, but less than $7 million
on the prevention of abuse and neglect of children. A large percentage of the adults
currently incarcerated were abused as children. Clearly, helping abused children today is
the way to address many of society’s problems tomorrow.
Become part of one of the most prestigious volunteer activities in the nation and
speak up for a child.
"My CASA volunteer has been with me since I was 14 or 15. And before her, I lived in a lot of places
throughout my foster care. I was in foster care from the age of 3 to 18. I always bounced around a lot.
And I started like feeling really worthless – ‘Gosh, what is my purpose, why am I here? And nobody
wants me.’ And my CASA came into my life, and when she did, she started putting self-worth into me
and making me realize that, ‘Hey, I am somebody."

"My CASA has been the most consistent one in my life – the other people just come and go, but she is just there. If I need something or someone to depend on, it’s going to be my CASA. I can call anybody I want to, but in the end it’s going to be her." -CASA Youth
