Luke 8:26-29
In the story of Jesus healing the demon possessed man we see two types of people; those who want to follow Jesus into his Kingdom and those who don't. This story helps us see why it's always better to choose to follow Jesus.
What do you do when Jesus isn't who you want him to be? What are the conditions you have for following him? What does Jesus have to do for you in order to keep your loyalty? When Jesus turned out to be the Messiah the world needed rather than the one the world wanted, all left him and turned away. How will you respond? We invite you to listen as Pastor Josh explores how those closest to Jesus responded when he wasn't the Savior they wanted.
Jesus commanded his followers to love each other as he loved them and if they do this the world will know they belong to him. Unfortunately, the church is oftentimes not the most loving place for people, including fellow believers.
We all have that voice speaking to us on the inside, but who is it? Or what is it? How do we sort it all out? Not every voice we hear on the inside is the voice of God. There is a leading voice and a misleading voice. Listen as we introduce the misleading voice.
All of Christian life can be summed up in one word: Trust. Without our trust in Him to forgive us all our shortcomings and sustain us when life is overwhelming we are lost. We are called to be people who trust God.
On this day, Feb 14th, all around the globe there will be guys genuflecting, going down on one knee, to pop that oh so weighty and famous question, “will you marry me?” This is a sign of humility and deference. You are taking a lower position. It doesn’t matter your status or position, the power or authority you have. At that moment you are setting it all aside and taking a lowly position to get down on one knee and humbly propose marriage. Marriage is something that is used in Scripture to describe the relationship between Christ and the church. But did Christ ever get down on one knee? Join us as we answer this question and learn how to have the mind of Christ.
Roads can be a metaphor for life. They have many twists and turns, ups and downs, and ultimately take us to our final destination... death. But, Jesus oftentimes meets us in the most unexpected ways and changes our circumstances for the better and gives us a new destination... eternal life!
As followers of Jesus, we know it is important to serve Him and others. We also believe that when we serve, we are to be motivated by our love. Jesus, the greatest servant of all, gives us the example of what it means to serve with love.
If something isn't growing we wouldn't call it alive, right? That is why we value spiritual growth as followers of Jesus. We want to be people who know God more each and every day and there are things we can do in our lives to help our spiritual growth.
Everything we do in life is driven by what we value. As we begin a new year let's look at the importance of placing Jesus at the beginning of all our endeavors.
The Bible tells us that our words carry weight with others. We can bring life or death to others in the words we say or type online. Because of that, it is important that we have a great understanding of what God is using his son Jesus to accomplish here on earth and for all eternity.
Paul reveals the "mystery" of the Church. Christians are to come together in unity. Unified in purpose, yet distinct in person. The result of this unity is Christ's victory over evil.
Psalm 23 describes Jesus as our shepherd and table host. Today we might slap this on a mug or embroider it on a throw pillow. For the ancient near-east ears, these descriptions were ones that would have spoken loudly. Join us as we endeavor to unpack a deeper meaning than what one might get from just a cursory reading of the passage.
This is the third and final week of our Christmas series called "Hope Is Here." Many times in life we feel lost and alone with no help to be found. This Christmas season we look to Jesus' birth in Bethlehem and remember that God has come to be with us... to help us find our way back to Him.
This is the second week of our three week Christmas series called "Hope Is Here." Today we learn that Jesus was sent as the Savior of the world and if anyone follows his path they will always find shelter from any of the storms of life.
Merry Christmas!
This is the first week of our three week Christmas series called "Hope Is Here,"
where we look beyond the story of a baby born in Bethlehem and hear the story of Jesus as Creator of everything.
This is battle of Ai, round 2. This time Joshua inquires of the Lord. For us, the Lord will guide and sometimes correct our steps, even the small steps. After the victory they head to Shechem to renew the covenant just like Moses instructed. We too, celebrate and renew our new covenant through communion, remembering Jesus and his sacrifice.
God's anger burned against Israel because they broke their covenant of faith with him. He allowed their defeat at Ai to remind them how seriously he hates sin. Fortunately for us, our covenant is based on the works of Jesus Christ, not our own, so we can overcome sin and live the new life God has for us.
The destruction of Jericho was one of the most miraculous victories God's people would celebrate as the conquest to take the Promised Land ensued. But, the story also contains a terrifying detail and if we don't understand what God was really doing we might never believe God is good.
