This week we take our first step into the Tabernacle and are confronted by the Brazen Altar. What significance does that have on our Christian walk today?
Karen speaks on Sacrifice in this Mother's day message and finishes our series: Disciple.
What does it mean to be created in the image of God and how does that affect our calling?
What does it mean to give? Loving God with all our heart, all our soul, all our mind and all our strength. What does that look like?
What does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus? It is a real life challenge for us to not just believe, but to also live out our belief.
We complete the series: Reframing Jesus, by unpacking one of most poignant verses in the Bible, Matthew 27:46.
How do we prepare for the inevitable storm? How does our relation with Jesus help us to weather those storms?
Temptation is something personal, and does not just come upon you unexpectedly. Satan knew how to attack Jesus. He knew when He was weak and he knew what to say. How are you dealing with temptation in your life?
To understand Martin Luther King, you need to understand the civil rights movement. Understanding the world environment at the time of Jesus' birth, is paramount to understanding who Jesus is, and why He chose to be born at that time period.
Commitment is all encompassing, when we give our lives to Christ, then our lives belong to Him.
Like every good Jewish name, Habakkuk’s name has a meaning. It means to embrace. It means to wrestle. Even when you are in the dip and you don’t understand, you continue to embrace God, even perhaps, wrestle with Him. You embrace Him, and even though He may not change the outward circumstances, or He may, He will take you spiritually to a new place of trust.
What's going on here? That's the question Habakkuk is now faced with. Things have gone from bad to worse and there doesn't seem to be any light at the end of tunnel... Ever been there?
Part one of our series on the book of Habakkuk. Why God? It is the question that Habakkuk struggles with. In this opening chapter God's response is a difficult one and hard for Habakkuk to take.
Fear is not something we associate with Christmas, yet it was feeling shared by the key protagonists. Especially the fear of rejection and the fear of failure!
As we come into Christmas we hear stories about the shepherds and the wise men coming to worship the baby Jesus, but what does worship mean for you and I today.
What is God's purpose for us? It is an age old question and as the final part in our Vision series we will seek to answer that.
When Jesus called someone to be His disciple, he meant for them to his pupil, his student, his follower. In other words, Jesus was saying, 'What I want you to do is I want you to live like I live. I want you to love like I love and I want you to do what I do. Follow me. I'm not asking you just to believe what I believe, but I'm asking you to live what I live.' Let's do life together. Let's go and change the world together. I'm not inviting you to a belief system or to join an organization, I’m not asking you to become a theologian or debate the finer details of some obscure theological argument. I'm inviting you to be a part of a movement. Would you come along and follow me?
What does it mean to be a leader in the Church? What should our expectations be and what does the Bible say about leadership?
Four speakers (Rev. Gordon Coombes, Rev. Ken McCormack, Rev. Dr. Steve Taylor & Rev. Rob Petrini) bring together a very special service marking 100 years since Opawa Baptist first opened its doors.
God's Word tells us that something very exceptional lies within each Christian. When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour, we have the promise we shall receive the Holy Spirit. But what or who is the Holy Spirit?
Webster's Dictionary defines death as: The permanent cessation of all vital functions, the end of life. It is something that we cannot escape. It is inevitable, or as the Borg say in Star Trek, 'resistance is futile!' For most humans on this planet, we believe in something more, something will happen after you die. So what does the Bible say about the afterlife?
As we understand it, there is another world, a spiritual world, an invisible world, thats just as real that influences our physical world. In part one we deal with spiritual warfare.
Rev. Ken McCormack speaks in this Father's Day message, one year on from the September 4 Earthquake.
The conclusion of our series on "Blessed are the Peacemakers". Doing it God's way sums up God's expectation for us when it comes to conflict and what His intentions are for us becoming Peacemakers as opposed to being Peacekeepers.
How do you think we deal with conflict? Difficult situations that deal with confrontation? Are we able to view things objectively, as God would? Are we peacemakers? And that does not just mean peacekeepers - I mean Peacemaker.
I am going to go against the grain with this, but Pentecost is not the day the church was born. I know some churches celebrate Pentecost as being the churchs birthday, some go as far as to bring out birthday cakes and such. Pentecost is the day that Jesus gave the message to Mary to tell her fellow brothers and sisters that He is risen. Mary, whom Jesus called Miriam, the messenger, she puts feet to the news that we today proclaim Jesus is risen. Pentecost is the birth of the Church's mission. Pentecost encapsulates all that Jesus taught us... Reach, Heal, Challenge and Grow.
I would say that many of us are not the wait and pray kind of people. Especially in today's atmosphere where most things come to us at the snap of our fingers! Our demands, if not met, usually cause great consternation for us. Couple that with the fact that we don't like waiting for our demands, then we're all one step away from potential coronary problems! Who gets mad when the internet is slow at downloading! The bigger problem is we believe in a patient God and that makes things just a little tricky for us! Not only that, He usually answers in such subtle ways that in the frantically demanding and inpatient lives we live, we tend to miss them! Other times He answers in such a big way that, well...
Here is Jesus, the man, appearing to his friends and showing them the scars that his life, his suffering, and his death, inflicted on him. Isnt it amazing that, in whatever occurred at the time of the resurrection the scars were NOT obliterated They remained. They are still there. We have a permanently scarred God. And he comes, scarred, to be with us with whatever scars we bear, with whatever wounds we carry, and with whatever doubts we harbour. To the Mary Magadelenes, to the doubting Thomas, to the all of us and He calls us by our name!
Stop living behind closed doors. Its time for you to get out of the upper room and live the promises God has for you!
Whats going with life, whats happening here some things are just completely out of our control whos in control! Sometimes its us, but it cant be that bad, why the reaction!! Thats the scenario that these two guys, we are going to talk about this morning, are going through. They are on their way to a little town called Emmaus, about 6km from Jerusalem, about a 2 hour walk. They had just heard that morning that Jesus had resurrected, but it was a little too much whats going on here.
