Psychology has always been my passion; understanding the mind, emotions, human behaviour and mental health. As people with anxiety, our experience matters. Thereโs power and pride in talking about our trauma, anxiety & having intimate and inspiring discussions about uncomfortable situations. The more we talk about it, the more likely it is that one day everyone will be able to break the stigma about mental health and discover solidarity in telling our stories.

Hey Lean Crew! Kare here, and I'm stoked to drop a quick bonus episode as we rev up for the epic comeback of 'Lean with Kare' in 2024.
2023's been a wild ride. I kicked off the year on a break, focusing on health and self-loving vibes. Then, February hit with an unexpected injury, sending me on an extended break.
Ignoring doc's orders, I powered through, holding onto my fav event, only to face my first-time failure. Ugh, scream, grunt, sigh Tough stuff, but mid-year, I had an epiphany: stop forcing, start flowing.
As a project management student, easier said than done. Letting go of control felt like uncharted territory. But in that space, magic happened.
I channeled energy into birthing a non-profit and nailed the 2nd Annual Brampton Latin Fest with an incredible team of badass Latinas. Letting go opens doors to the Universe's gifts.
Yeah, it's scary as hell, but trust me, it's damn worth it. You'll get why some things didn't work eventually past the discomfort.
Cheers to lessons, resilience, and unexpected blessings. 'Lean with Kare' roars back in 2024, loaded with wisdom and triumph tales.
Can't wait to roll this journey with you. Thanks for the patience and epic support. Until then, stay focused (tunnel vision, baby), stay strong (cuz you a baddie), and remember, your story matters. Catch you in 2024!

Tara is a projector - based on human design modalities. Not being able to feel her gut instincts led her to spiral into confusion which ultimately catapulted her into a 7+ year journey nurturing and connecting to her Higher Self.
Where Tara feels most fulfilled is when she can help guide people to that same level of clarity by teaching clients about their intuition, teaching them how to connect & how to use discernment. How does she do this? By sharing tools & practises that have worked for her and helped her unlock her truest potential. Oftentimes we forget that the answers are all within us, literally. Theyโre within our grasp so long as weโre asking the right questions and listening to our bodies.
Tara explains that aligning with your True North & your values will be met with resistance because itโs a complete shock to our system & those that you set boundaries with. Breathe through it. Boundaries are a set of core values that you set when you know your worth. Honour them.
Here are some of my biggest takeaways from our recording session:
Itโs going to hurt if you stay and itโs going to hurt if you go. Which pain will give you the most growth?
Itโs important to recognize that we are multi-purposeful beings and our purposes in life are as cyclical as our evolvement.
When was the last time you had a sacred soul conversation? If you feel the nudge, chime into S4 E1 to tune into Taraโs wise sage. Click the link in the bio to hear the full episode on all your favorite podcast platforms. ๐ง๐โ๐ฝ

My name is Karen Lissette. Iโm the founder of Open for Business Hub. A for-profit social enterprise thatโs passionate on supporting our local small business community through personal development & experiential opportunities to network, scale their business and connect with their ideal customers. Most recently we began focusing on mentoring our future leaders and entrepreneurs to give them the resources and skill sets they need to conduct business with excellence. During the pandemic I also birthed another business baby. More details to come with our official launch. I'm also the host of this podcast, Lean with Kare where I advocate for mental wellness. Why? Because I've lived through some pretty intense and severe traumatic experiences and understand what it is to live with anxiety & have been affected by depression and ptsd. Healing from grief or learning coping strategies for any of the conditions and symptoms I live with hasn't been easy as the roadmap isn't linear. Through the podcast I'm able to share my lived experiences & how I've been able to grow from them.

In this episode Elena and I talk about how Elenaโs childhood impacted her to make the decision to dive into her journey of decolonization. Growing up being constantly compared to her sister & made to feel less than for not having light eyes and fair skin played a huge role into her insecurities and feelings of unworthiness. Her trauma was the catalyst that led to her healing journey finally acknowledging her disassociation with the European influence & honouring her skin complexion, her dark hair, her nose & her features which are her true beauty. Her goal is to continue advocating everyoneโs individual beauty. Once embarking on her unlearning she also began trekking through the murky waters of โchancla cultureโ to ensure that she was able to break generational traumas to give her daughters a better chance at assimilating with their truths. As a result of her abuse sheโs returned back to healing through art. Beading has become her medicine & sheโs made it her mantra to pass on her healing to you as well.

Tricia also shares the challenges in being a step mother in a toxic coparentingship. Overall, in spite of her shortcomings and lessons learned she rides the waves in the journey as a student of life.

Fazeena Haniff is The Conscious Communicator โ a communication expert with 20 years of experience, a board-certified coach, speaker, consultant, intuitive, and facilitator of challenging conversations. Fazeena started her coaching and consulting practice to help individuals reclaim their voice from past and intergenerational trauma, and disempowering societal, cultural and family dynamics to be powerful communicators. As a woman of colour navigating the corporate space and being born into an immigrant family with intergenerational colonial trauma, Fazeena knows the unique challenges and fears of what it means to find and use voice in both the personal and professional space.
Being witness to a tragic accident as a child taught Fazeena to suffer in silence in a culture that didnโt hold space for emotional processing and difficult conversations. It wasnโt until she found herself at a breaking point decades later that she learned to recognize the impact of unhealed trauma on a personโs voice. That breaking point became her reclamation point.
Fazeena holds a unique position of combining her many years of professional training and experience in communication with her unique ability to see the unconscious patterns that influence a personโs ability to communicate, which allows her to facilitate powerful breakthroughs for her clients.

Parmโs Yoga is the culmination of my journey from being overwhelmed, stuck in a rut and directionless in life, to finding a place that I can call home where I truly belong and am able to give back and contribute to the world. At the end of my university career, I found myself in a place where nothing mattered to me anymore. I had no motivation to do anything, my previous goals had lost meaning and at some point, I felt like my life was just passing me by. I wasnโt ever in the present moment and I felt like I wasnโt even living anymore: I was just existing. I was stuck โ stuck in my mind and stuck in a rut with no way out. My yoga practice and the inherent spirituality in the ancient techniques pulled me out of the funk I was in. The more I continued down the path of yoga and spirituality, the more I felt like I was mending all the broken pieces of me. I was finally happy, satisfied with what I had and I finally felt like a complete person again. I started Parmโs Yoga because I know how painful and isolating this journey can be. I feel lucky to have had all the support that I did at every step of my journey and now, I want to give back. I want to be that beacon of light that I know that people need. The journey home to yourself isnโt an easy one. You have to face your mind and all the dark corners in it. But Parmโs Yoga is here to ensure that you donโt have to go through it alone. Parmโs Yoga is here to support you at every step of the way with yoga, meditation, breathing techniques and the spiritual depth that you donโt know youโre craving. Parmโs Yoga is for everyone who is where I was: lost, stuck, directionless, seeking purpose and most of all: seeking to reconnect with their authentic selves.

Christmas is one of the most joyous festivals of the year, awaited by everyone, including children and grown-ups. The glittery decoration, gifts, cakes, delicious meals, Christmas music, everything about the festival is just magical. But above all it's about the love, laughter and the precious time spent with the family and loved ones. This year it looks and feels different for everyone. Whether or not you get to celebrate the day with your friends and family this year, you get the greatest gift of all โฆ is being able to zoom call them and see their faces or pick up a phone to hear their voice. Yes, it is different, but the distance is temporary.
When you lose someone special, your world lacks its celebratory qualities. Holidays magnify that loss. The sadness deepens and the loneliness can feel isolating. The need for support may be the greatest during the holidays. Pretending you donโt hurt and/or it isnโt a harder time of the year may not be your truth. But for those living in their grief, you can โ and will โ get through the holidays. Rather than avoiding the feelings of grief, lean into them. It is not the grief you want to avoid, it is the pain. No one can take that pain away, but grief is not just pain, grief is love. The way I see it is the pain you feel is comparable to the amount of love you have for your loved one. That void will never be filled. But you carry on fueled by the love, traditions and memories you carry with you.

Amanda gets open and candid about struggling at balancing time with all her different hats she wears - the juggle is real, she gets raw about the sh#t that goes on when you are hustling, working, being a wife, mama, friend, etc. We discussed the illusion of balance & time management when juggling various roles and that setting boundaries are not only healthy but paramount, we touched on the importance of self care & it looking differently for each of us. We addressed the importance of being kind to everyone you come across - weโre all carrying our own loads of emotions, experiences and traumaโs. We shared our love for hugs and how much our need for touch has changed with our new norm. Amanda opened up about her familyโs decision on โBack to School.โ As an educator she shares some of the new procedures and policies of being in the classroom. We talked about transparency when you approach someone to collaborate, having pivoted through the most difficult time as an entrepeneur (eat or get eaten), feeling lost through the isolation of the covid social distancing (fear based conditioning), touched on the overall global pandemic & racial war (systematic oppression).
