The department hosts a range of conferences, lectures, workshops and other events, some of which are featured on this page, including our graduate research students’ conference which provides students with an opportunity to present their research findings, and an HIV/AIDS day.
The intervention targeted secondary schools and consisted of training for teachers in restorative practice, setting up action groups in schools, and a student social and emotional skills curriculum.
A lecture given for the Meeting Minds Alumni Weekend 2018. Juxtaposing a child-centred and a child-oriented policy paradigm, this talk took stock of recent policy developments in Europe and beyond and assessed our progress in developing child-centred policy.

The role of area-based interventions in tackling child poverty. Poverty in the UK has increased significantly over the past decade. This talk examined the importance of a child’s early years, focusing on the role of parenting, and ask how we can break cycles of disadvantage. Professor Barlow discusses A Better Start - a new, innovative intervention for families in deprived areas. She is leading the national evaluation of this programme. This lecture was given as part of the University of Oxford's Meeting Minds Alumni Weekend in 2017.
