Sometimes things don't go to plan. That is something that can be said of this week's podcast and also the tenure of Ricardo Peres at Busan IPark, This week’s episode was originally scheduled to be a K League 2 special but, in a case of timing things too well, Wednesday’s news of Busan IPark manager Ricardo Peres being fired by the club has somewhat scuppered what we had began writing and recording just two days earlier. To discuss Busan IPark’s managerial woes, Matthew Binns was joined by our columnist Dowon Lee in Adelaide who took time out of his busy schedule to explain where it is all going wrong for Peres, only for the news to break afterwards. Without wanting to discard the interview, and repurpose it as a view from the final days of Peres’ tenure and the issues facing Busan IPark, we thought we'd give listeners an idea of how things stood on Monday evening for the club's season.

K League is finally back and the weekend brought goals, shocks and a surprising number of clean sheets. In K League 2, newcomers Gimpo FC kicked off their first game with a win against recently relegated Gwangju FC while Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors stretched their unbeaten opening day streak to 11 years. Elsewhere in K League 1 Suwon Samsung Bluewings fell to Incheon United after being reduced to ten men early on, while FC Seoul got off to an uncharacteristically winning start, seeing off last seasons third-placed finishers Daegu FC. Sunday's top flight action also saw Gangwon see off Seongnam, Pohang overthrow Jeju and newly-promoted Gimcheon Sangmu, reduced to ten men, hold Ulsan Hyundai. K League 2 also saw wins for FC Anyang, Seoul E-Land while Busan drew with Ansan Greeners and Bucheon ended goalless with Chungnam Asan. Alex and Khaelby comb through the action to give their takeaways from the opening round.

Then, the duo cast their eyes to surprising signings before then looking to the moves they think were intelligent bits of business. Finally, both of them make their decisions on which sides could be considered to be "winning" the window at present. All this and more on this pre-season edition of The K League United Podcast.
We’ve looked at agents, we’ve also looked at interpreters but this week will be looking at Data Science in football. Anyone who has seen a K League player take their shirt off when celebrating a goal may have seen them wear a little black vest with "Fitogether" written on it.
This is sports science and data tracking equipment that is commonplace in football these days. To find out more and what sort of services Fitogether provides to K League and to football teams all around the world, Paul speaks with Sales Manager Kim Tae-hong.
Not only that but we hear from Korea Women’s national team midfielder ParkYe-eun speaks to K League United in an exclusive interview about her aims for the upcoming AFC Asian Cup in India and also issues a come and get me plea to clubs in the USA. She is expected to be part of the Asian Cup squad where, she hopes, it can put her in the shop window for a move to the US and the NWSL.
Last week, in the first of our 2022 pre-season specials, we heard from Jeong Hoe-won, a K League agent who like many intermediaries or agents will be looking to bring some foreign players into Korea.
Some players, then, will need interpreters to help translate manager and coach instructions and to generally help them settle into life in a foreign country.
So, to find out what it’s like to be a K League interpreter, Paul speaks to Kim Min-su who, most recently, was with Daejeon Hana Citizen but he has also worked with Jeonnam Dragons, Busan IPark, Incheon United and Suwon Bluewings.
Before season five of the K League United Podcast officially kicks off, we will be bringing some shorter episodes to whet the appetite before the 2022 season gets underway.
And, as it is January, that means the transfer window is now open in K League. We’ve already seen some moves happen but there will be a lot more still to come.
Pivotal in any transfer, or certainly in most, will be the agents helping to broker the deal, negotiate contracts, and get their clients’ names out there. Whether they’ll be looking to move some big stars from one K League club to another or take young talent abroad, January is a busy time.
To gain an insight into what it’s actually like to be a K League agent, Paul Neat hears from Jeong Hoe-won of WIO Football Consulting.

A fantastical list was stirring, with more than a few clunkers;
The KLU Fan Awards were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that Kim Shin-wook soon would be there;
The ACL trophy nestled all snug in Ulsan beds;
While visions of de-throning Jeonbuk danced in their heads
Ryan Walters, Matthew Binns, and Pete Hampshire are joined by guests from across the globe to put a bow on the 2020 season and determine whether each team should be on Santa's naughty or nice list.
