The University of South Carolina Board of Trustees approved today a contract extension for women's basketball head coach Dawn Staley that will go through the 2029-30 season and make her the highest paid college women's basketball coach in the history of the sport.
"Dawn Staley is a once-in-a-generation coach who has made a tremendous impact on the University of South Carolina," said Athletics Director Jeremiah Donati. "She has elevated the sport of women's basketball on the national level and here on campus and I am excited that she will be representing our University for many years to come."
No. 15/15 Tennessee (15-2, 3-2 SEC) travels to Nashville this weekend to meet in-state rival RV/NR Vanderbilt (14-4, 1-3 SEC) on Sunday at Memorial Gymnasium in the Commodores' home "We Back Pat" game.

The No. 20-ranked West Virginia University women’s basketball team looks to get back in the win column when they welcome Colorado to Morgantown on Wednesday, Jan. 15, inside the WVU Coliseum. The meeting is the second between the two programs this season after opening the conference schedule against each other in late December.
South Carolina women's basketball was named USBWA Team of the Week for the second time this season, the organization announced today. The Gamecocks' pair of wins came by an average of 29.0 points and extended their SEC-record conference regular-season win streak to 51. Head coach Dawn Staley's team also became the first team to post five wins over ranked opponents this season.

Duke freshman guard/forward Cooper Flagg swept the weekly Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball honors on Monday, earning both Player and Rookie of the Week.
Florida State junior guard Ta’Niya Latson has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, and Georgia Tech guard Dani Carnegie earned Rookie of the Week honors for games played between December 30-January 5.

Villanova forward Eric Dixon has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week and Georgetown forward-center Thomas Sorber has been selected BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. Dixon, the nation's leading scorer, led Villanova to a 2-0 week. Sorber earned Freshman honors for the fourth time after helping the Hoyas to a pair of wins.

Duke's Reigan Richardson scored her 1,000th career point, finishing the afternoon with 13 points to lead the 14th-ranked Blue Devils to a commanding, 69-31, victory over Pittsburgh in ACC women's basketball action Sunday afternoon.
A strong defensive performance propelled the No. 19/20 Alabama women's basketball team past Missouri, 68-49, Sunday afternoon inside Coleman Coliseum. The Crimson Tide (16-1, 2-0 SEC) held the Tigers (11-6, 0-2 SEC), which entered the contest ranked as the top three-point shooting team in the Southeastern Conference, to just 25 percent (3-12) from deep.
No. 8 Maryland women's basketball continued its undefeated start to the season while earning its third-ranked win of the season with its 74-66 win over No. 23 Iowa on Sunday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Chloe Kitts had 17 points and 10 rebounds to help No. 2 South Carolina erase a double-digit deficit and beat Mississippi State 95-68 on Sunday.
No. 15/13 Tennessee outscored No. 9/10 Oklahoma, 27-12, in the fourth quarter to nearly erase a 16-point final-frame deficit before falling, 87-86, on Sunday in front of a season-best crowd of 11,321 at Food City Center.

I got the chance to speak with American rugby union player Naya Tapper. In this interview Naya talks about how she transitioned from running track to playing rugby. Naya was an All-American athlete at West Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, North Carolina
Naya also explains on why she choose to attend the University of North Carolina. Tapper was selected to the 2017 Women’s Rugby World Cup squad where she helped her teammates reach the Semifinal. After a short break, she suited up once more for the 2017 Dubai Sevens Tournament where the Women’s Sevens won silver. Naya was among 12 women rugby players selected to represent Team USA at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Taylor was a member of the Cardinals women’s lacrosse team. Mihaela Buzărnescu is a professional tennis player from Romania.She has a career-high WTA singles ranking of No. 20, achieved on 6 August 2018. Her best doubles ranking of No. 24, she achieved on 22 October 2018. She has won one singles and one doubles title on the WTA Tour. Buzărnescu has a Ph.D. in sports science from the National University of Physical Education and Sport.

In 2016, the long years of saving finally bore fruit. From the kart Laura got into her first racing cockpit. She gained important experience in the ADAC Logan Cup.
In 2018 Laura switched to the M235i Racing Cup class. Not an easy environment, because the power density is very high and makes this class one of the most competitive on the Nordschleif.In 2019 she started her first three VLN runs in the M240i.
Kendra Dahlke an outside hitter led the Wildcats’ volleyball program to the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16. She finished fourth in the Pac-12 in kills per set (3.97), ninth in program history for kills (496), fourth in program history with 28 10-plus kill matches and took MVP honors in two tournaments. Kendra graduated from the University of Arizona where she received her Bachelor’s degree in the field of Criminal Justice and a minor in Psychology in 2018. Kendra played in two seasons as a professional volleyball player in the Philippines and Italy from (2019-current).

Karla Borger is a German beach volleyball player. She won a silver medal at the 2013 World Championships alongside her teammate Britta Büthe. At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, she competed in women's beach volleyball with teammate Britta Büthe. They were defeated by the Brazilian team of Larissa França and Talita Antunes in the round of 16. She is the daughter of Cordula Pütter.

Hailey is from small town Bend, Oregon,Her father introduced her to golf as soon as she could walk and taught her the short game first.Hailey went on to attend George Fox University, a small, D3 Christian college just outside of Portland.After college Hailey decided to continue her golf journey in Arizona.Hailey gained multiple sponsors, including Nike, Massage Envy and Rukket Sports. She also competed on Golf Channel’s Shotmakers, where she made it to the semi-finals with her partner Andrew Bachelder. She became known for her driver shots to the “trench”, which helped save her team in elimination rounds. Hailey was then asked to be a special guest on Driver vs Driver 2, testing drivers for Wilson Golf.

Grayson Murphy is from Salt Lake City, Utah. she graduated from the University of Utah in the spring of 2018 with her B.S. in Civil Engineering in addition to being a 5x All-American at the NCAA D1 level. Deja Young is an American Paralympic athlete from Dallas, Texas. She was born with brachial plexus or shoulder dystocia which has caused nerve damage and limited mobility in her right shoulder.This was caused during childbirth by a panicked doctor who pulled on her head too hard and her right shoulder to dislocate, she had to undergo three surgeries to reduce her discomfort.She won her first gold medal in 100 metres by five tenths of a second for beating Wang Yanping to gain a silver and Alicja Fiodorow to earn a bronze.[4] In the 200 metre final, Young won a silver after being beaten by Cuban athlete Yunidis Castillo by half a second.

Janae Gonzalez is now a full-time professional competing in Liga BBVA MX Femenil, the highest division of women’s soccer in Mexico, after signing a contract with Club América Femenil. With the 2020 season now one week old, the Folsom, California, native is expected to make her debut once the transaction is cleared by the Mexican Football Federation.
Gonzalez’s return to Mexico takes place after her successful two-year career at UC Davis, which ended with All-Big West First Team honors.
Gonzalez, who possesses dual citizenship in the United States and Mexico, previously competed for the U-17 Mexican Women’s National Team and helped the squad win its inaugural CONCACAF championship in 2013. That year, she led the team in goals (three) and assists (four) while attending Vista Del Lago High School as a junior.
Mexico defeated the United States and Canada, on penalty kicks in the semifinals and finals, to win the 2013 title.

Grace Cutler has a decorated history as a player despite being so young, as she began to garner national attention in High School when she was nominated for the 2014 Gatorade Player of the Year during her senior season at Fossil Ridge. Cutler led Fossil Ridge to an undefeated record in 2014 and earned multiple All-State First Team accolades.
In addition, Cutler was a member of the 2014 Elite Clubs National League Player Development Program (ECNL). During her time in the program, Cutler was ranked the fifth-best U-17 player during the 2013-14 ECNL Regular Season. Cutler also spent time at the United States Soccer Federation Training Centers in 2013 and 2014.
Cutler captained the West Virginia Mountaineers in 2018 and was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team. During her time as a Mountaineer, Cutler helped the WVU defense post 12 clean sheets in 2018 season and finish with a 0.541 goals-against average, the second-best mark in the Big 12 Conference and the 11th-best mark nationally.
Professionally, Cutler was the 22nd pick in the 2019 NWSL draft, chosen by the Houston Dash.

Carly Booth turned professional in 2009 and has won three times on the Ladies European Tour including one on home soil at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open in 2012. Her last win came in August last year at the Tipsports Czech Ladies Open with UAE golf pro Andy Carter on the bag. Booth is one of the leading ambassadors for women’s golf and enjoyed a stellar amateur career which included two appearances in the Junior Ryder Cup.

After graduating from New Albany High School, where she was a two-sport varsity athlete competing in volleyball and swimming, Alexis Lete was awarded a full ride scholarship for athletics to The George Washington University and crown holder of Miss Indiana USA. Alexis is currently a model, actress, creator, and still an athlete.
