Somewhere along the way, being needed can start to feel like being valuable.

Work gets demanding. People need answers. The to-do list gets longer. You tell yourself, "I just need to get through this week." Then another week arrives.

For me, the hard part is not that I stop caring about what matters. It is that the things I care about most are often the first things I squeeze out.

Rest gets delayed.

Time with my wife gets thinner.

Creativity gets pushed to "when things slow down."

Even the quiet time that keeps me grounded can get treated like an extra instead of a necessity.

Maybe you know that feeling too.

I am not writing this because I have a clean answer. I am writing it because I am in a demanding season myself, and I have had to admit something: I cannot build a life I am proud of by giving every last piece of myself away.

That does not mean I stop caring about my work. I take pride in working hard, helping people, and doing a job well. But work cannot get the best of me while the people I love receive whatever is left.

So I am not trying to create a perfect routine right now. I am building a ground floor.

A ground floor is the minimum that stays protected when life is full:

  • a little time to get still and reconnect with God
  • time that says to my family, "You are not an afterthought"
  • enough rest that I do not become short, empty, and unavailable
  • a place to write down what is weighing on me instead of carrying it around all day
  • one small action toward the person I am trying to become

It may not look impressive. It may be five minutes, not an hour. It may be one honest conversation, a short walk, a prayer in the truck, or choosing to stop work at a reasonable time.

But small does not mean unimportant.

The goal is not perfect balance. Life does not work that way. Some seasons will demand more from one area than another. The goal is to make sure the pressure does not quietly take everything else with it.

I keep coming back to this: what you do not protect will eventually get spent.

If you are in a heavy season, do not beat yourself up for not doing it all. Instead, ask one question:

What is one thing I need to protect this week so I do not lose myself?

For me, that answer is simple: make room for faith, family, rest, and the work that keeps me becoming who I want to be.

If this hit home, leave a comment and tell me what you are protecting in this season. I read the replies.

When was the last time you truly stopped for the night and let your mind rest. In this episode of Level Yourself Up, I speak directly to you about ending the day with intention. Christmas highlights how often nights stay noisy and rushed. Ongoing late nights weaken peace, clarity, and trust. Learning how to stop restores strength for the next day.

Stopping at night shapes how you wake up. Late meals, screens, and unfinished tasks increase mental noise and restless mornings. I share personal examples from work, home projects, and burnout to show why rest serves discipline, not reward. Rest protects focus, patience, and decision making. Trust grows when striving ends and limits receive respect.

KEY TAKEAWAYS • Choose a nightly stop time and protect boundaries • Prepare mornings by closing the night with intention • Reduce screens to allow reflection and calm • End the day with prayer and gratitude • Treat rest as discipline, not reward • Let unfinished work wait without guilt • Notice stronger focus and steadier mornings

SCRIPTURE AND REFLECTION Matthew 11 28 to 30 says, Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon You and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Isaiah 40 31 says, But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles. They shall run and not be weary. They shall walk and not faint. Psalm 46 10 says, Be still, and know that I am God. Isaiah 26 3 says, You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. These verses remind us that stillness, waiting, and trust restore strength and clarity.

CHALLENGES • Choose a specific time each night to stop working • Shut down screens at least thirty minutes before bed • End the day with one prayer and one gratitude thought • Let one unfinished task wait until tomorrow • Pay attention to how your morning focus and peace change

In this episode of Level Yourself Up, I talk about a simple habit that strengthens your mind in ten minutes a day. I call it a daily learning snack. Learning has shaped how I think, how I solve problems, and how I grow spiritually. You do not need more time or better tools. You need a small, repeatable habit that fits into real life.

Why Daily Learning Matters Daily learning strengthens memory, focus, and creativity. Research shows lifelong learners experience slower cognitive decline and better productivity. Learning activates brain growth factors that support neuroplasticity and mood. Writing down what you learn and teaching others improves retention up to ninety percent. God designed your brain to grow through learning and renewal.

What a Daily Learning Snack Looks Like A daily learning snack is short, intentional learning built into your routine. You read a few pages, listen to a podcast, or watch a short talk. The goal is consistency, not volume. Ten minutes replaces mindless scrolling and resets your thinking. Over time, small learning habits compound into lasting growth.

Key Takeaways • Spend ten minutes a day learning something useful • Write down one idea to improve memory and clarity • Teach or share one takeaway to increase retention • Use podcasts, books, or short videos during routines • Replace scrolling with learning during lunch or breaks • Learning improves creativity, problem solving, and focus • Scripture supports growth through renewing your mind

Scripture and Reflection

• Proverbs 1:5 A wise man will hear and increase learning, And a man of understanding will attain wise counsel.

• Proverbs 18:15 The heart of the prudent acquires knowledge, And the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.

• Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

I break down three simple writing practices that guide your priorities, help you process emotions, and track your progress. Each method supports clear thinking and steady forward movement. When you build structure around your thoughts, you create space for peace and focus. My goal is to help you use writing as a tool for stability and personal development.

I talk about learning logs and how writing strengthens your memory and helps you track progress. I also highlight the role of gratitude in reframing stress and anchoring your emotions. These practices support spiritual, mental, and practical growth in your daily life.

In this episode of Level Yourself Up, I talk about how striving for perfection can block your growth. I share a personal story about tiling my bathroom and how the frustration of not doing it perfectly taught me a bigger lesson about patience, humility, and progress. The goal isn't to be flawless but to keep moving forward, even when the process feels messy.

The Lesson Behind the Tile I started this podcast to help people focus on steady growth. This week reminded me that trying to be perfect only leads to frustration. As I worked on my bathroom tile, I caught myself comparing my work to YouTube professionals who made it look effortless. But the truth is, every skill takes time. When I let go of my unrealistic standards, the work started to flow. Progress began when I gave myself permission to fail.

Key Takeaways * Progress happens when you stop chasing perfection. * Being too critical on yourself slows your learning. * Comparison to others kills creativity and confidence. * Giving yourself grace opens space for improvement. * Failure teaches lessons perfection never will. * Self-forgiveness is a daily practice. * Growth requires patience and responsibility.

Weekly Reflection

Take a few moments this week to write and think through these questions:

  1. Where am I being too hard on myself right now?
  2. What can I do to forgive myself in that area?
  3. How can I let grace and mercy guide my actions this week?

These questions help you reset your mindset and focus on what matters: consistent progress and peace of mind.

Final Thoughts This episode is a reminder to take a step back and breathe. Ask yourself where you're being too hard on yourself. Write down three areas where you need to let go. Then, make the choice to forgive yourself and move forward with grace. Remember, it's not about being perfect. It's about showing up, doing your best, and learning as you go.

In this episode of Level Yourself Up, I talk about the importance of staying active through micro-movements and daily motion. Exercise is not about long hours in the gym. It's about staying in motion and honoring your body as a temple of the Holy Spirit. I share how small actions build energy, improve mood, and help you age with strength. You will hear what I have been learning from science, scripture, and personal experience about how to stay strong as we get older.

I explore how movement impacts focus, energy, and emotional stability. Simple habits such as walking, stretching, or doing short exercises between tasks make a difference. Science from Dr. Andrew Huberman shows that two to three minutes of movement every hour supports glucose control, clarity, and mood. I also talk about muscle loss and why maintaining strength helps prevent decline as we age. The book Younger Next Year by Chris Crowley and Dr. Henry Lodge reinforces this idea. The authors show how daily movement sends growth signals to your body while inactivity sends decay signals.

Key Takeaways

  • Your body is a temple. Caring for it is a form of stewardship.
  • Movement builds focus, balance, and independence.
  • Small bursts of activity improve metabolism and mood.
  • Muscle mass declines about one percent per year after age fifty. Strength training and protein help slow that loss.
  • You are never too old or too busy to move.
  • Micro-movements such as calf raises, shoulder rolls, or standing during phone calls build long-term strength.
  • Daily action sends growth signals to your body and supports longevity.
  • You're never too old or too busy to move.
  • Small steps compound. Each movement is a vote for vitality.
  • Start with one thing and build momentum.

Action Step Pick one micro-movement and repeat it every day for a week. Track your progress and note how your energy changes. Simple steps today shape your health for tomorrow.

In this episode of Level Yourself Up, I talk about how gratitude has reshaped the way I think, pray, and live. Gratitude is more than manners—it's a mindset that transforms your outlook and draws you closer to God. I share personal stories, lessons from Scripture, and insights I've learned through years of practice. This episode is about finding peace in faith, even when life doesn't go as planned.

My Reflections on Gratitude Gratitude isn't about ignoring problems or pretending everything is fine. It's about trusting that God is working through every situation. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 reminds us to give thanks in all circumstances. When I live in gratitude, I find clarity and peace instead of fear and worry.

I remember being in the hospital with COVID. It was a tough time. I could have focused on fear, but instead, I prayed with gratitude—for my caregivers, my family, and the strength to heal. That shift helped me stay calm and hopeful. Philippians 4:6–7 says not to be anxious but to present our requests to God with thanksgiving. I've found that when I do that, peace follows.

Gratitude also affects how we see problems. When I view challenges as opportunities to grow, the solutions often appear—through people, prayer, or unexpected circumstances. Living in gratitude keeps me open, hopeful, and focused on progress instead of perfection.

What I've Learned from Others Over the years, I've found wisdom in how others describe gratitude:

  • Bob Proctor says gratitude is an alignment tool that connects us with our source.
  • Tony Robbins believes gratitude changes our emotional state—you can't feel fear or anger while being thankful.
  • Jim Rohn calls it a discipline that keeps success meaningful.

These ideas remind me that gratitude isn't passive. It's an active decision to focus on what's right and what's possible.

Four Gratitude Challenges I Shared If you want to live more gratefully this week, try these simple steps:

  1. Write down one thing each day that you're grateful for that came through someone else.
  2. Thank God in prayer for the blessings in your life and how He's shaping you through people and situations.
  3. Tell one person this week that you appreciate them, and explain why.
  4. Reflect in your journal on one area where gratitude could move you from being self-focused to hopeful.

These actions have helped me stay grounded and focused on God's goodness.

Bonus: Book Review – Moving Mountains by John Eldredge https://wildatheart.org/ In this episode, I also share a quick review of Moving Mountains by John Eldredge. This book teaches how to pray with passion, confidence, and authority. Gratitude plays a central role in that process—it shifts prayer from desperation to expectancy.

What I appreciate most is how Eldredge connects prayer and gratitude as part of a deeper relationship with God. The book isn't a quick how-to guide; it's about aligning your heart with faith. I'll admit it's a little slow at times, but the lessons are meaningful. One of my favorite takeaways is this: gratitude and prayer invite God's peace and shift us from asking to expecting confidently.

It's a book worth reading if you want to strengthen your faith and understand how gratitude changes everything.

Key Takeaways

  • Gratitude is a mindset that builds faith and peace.
  • Fear and gratitude can't live in the same heart.
  • Trust God with what you can't control, and focus on what you can.
  • Journaling helps you stay thankful and aware of progress.
  • Real gratitude improves relationships, leadership, and well-being.

Closing Thoughts Each day is a new chance to practice gratitude. Thank God for what is and what will be. Tell someone you appreciate them. Keep your focus on progress, not perfection.

Level Yourself Up – Episode 109: What's One Change That Would Make You Happier? Host: John Budd | Email: john@levelyourselfup.com

Introduction I'm John Budd, host of Level Yourself Up. In this episode, I'm asking a simple but powerful question—what's one change you know would make you happier, but you haven't done it yet? I share thoughts from my own life, like finishing my basement studio, and explore how true happiness comes from inner peace and living out your values, not from chasing external rewards.

Finding Real Happiness Happiness is more than a short-term feeling. It's about inner contentment, peace, and purpose. Many people mistake happiness for excitement, but that fades fast. I talk about the difference between joy that comes from God and the temporary thrill of getting new things. I also share why serving others and living within your calling brings deeper satisfaction.

Living by Your Values You'll never be happy living by someone else's expectations. I challenge you to reflect on what happiness means to you, what values guide your life, and what excuses you're using to delay change. I admit my own excuses—like not recording because my studio wasn't ready—and how I finally pushed through.

Practical Shifts for More Joy I walk through small but meaningful changes you can make right now. Better boundaries. More rest. Daily gratitude. Less self-criticism. Even simple steps like walking outside or taking short naps can refresh your perspective and create space for growth.

Faith and Mindset Faith plays a key role in how I define happiness. I believe true joy comes from God's presence within us. I also touch on how our thoughts and words shape our emotions. Speaking gratitude and affirming your growth helps rewire how you see yourself.

Episode Takeaways

  • Ask yourself what single change would make you happier.
  • Define happiness based on your values, not others' opinions.
  • Serve others—it's the surest path to fulfillment.
  • Let go of excuses that delay your growth.
  • Set boundaries and prioritize rest.
  • Speak gratitude and life into your daily mindset.
  • Re-evaluate your habits and make room for joy.

Welcome to Level Yourself Up, where we focus on progress over perfection. In this episode, I talk about the concept of failure and how it affects our mindset. Too often, we let failure drag us down, convincing ourselves that setbacks define us. But what if we changed our perspective? Instead of seeing failure as a roadblock, we can reframe it as a stepping stone toward success. I'll share personal insights, biblical wisdom, and real-world examples of how embracing failure can unlock your potential.

Failure is often misunderstood. Many people see it as an end, but it’s actually a powerful learning experience. I’ve faced my own struggles—even getting this podcast out wasn’t easy. Like any challenge in life or business, failure isn’t a signal to quit but an opportunity to grow. Learning new skills, adapting, and persevering are key to overcoming obstacles. In this episode, I discuss the importance of pushing through challenges and how influential figures like Michael Jordan and Elon Musk used failure to fuel their success. I also explore the role of faith and how trusting in God can provide strength during difficult times.

Key Takeaways from This Episode * Failure is not final – It’s a stepping stone, not a dead end. * Learned helplessness holds us back – We must challenge the mindset that we are powerless to change. * Faith plays a role in resilience – Biblical wisdom reminds us that God strengthens us through trials (1 Peter 5:10, Psalm 145:13-14). * Failure is data, not defeat – Remove emotion from setbacks and analyze the facts to make better decisions. * Even the greatest fail – Michael Jordan missed thousands of shots, but his mindset made him a legend. * Surround yourself with support – A coach, mentor, or trusted friend can help you navigate challenges. * Keep learning and growing – If you’re not learning, you’re stagnating. Growth comes from perseverance.

Final Thoughts Failure isn’t something to fear—it’s something to embrace. The most successful people in history have failed more times than we can count, but they didn’t let it stop them. Instead, they used it to refine their skills, shift their strategies, and ultimately achieve greatness. I encourage you to rethink failure in your own life. How can you use setbacks as stepping stones? What lesson can you take from today’s challenges? Let’s push forward together and Level Yourself Up!

Dive into the latest episode of our podcast, "How Is Your Self-Image?" where we dive into the factors that influence how we perceive ourselves. From societal pressures to personal experiences,

Join us as we examine the impact of perfectionism, comparisons to others, and negative feedback on our self-image. We invite you to reflect on your own self-perception and share your thoughts with us. How do you see yourself?

Find more podcast here https://www.levelyourselfup.com/

Perfectionism: So, when we're constantly aiming for perfection and setting those super high standards, it's like setting ourselves up for a fall. You know, we end up beating ourselves up when we can't meet those unrealistic expectations.

Comparisons to Others: Ah, you know how it is, especially nowadays with social media everywhere. We're always looking at other people's lives and feeling like we're just not measuring up. It's a recipe for feeling inadequate and blaming ourselves.

Past Mistakes: We all mess up sometimes, right? But dwelling on those mistakes or what we see as failures just keeps us stuck. It's like we're trapped in this cycle of self-criticism that stops us from moving forward.

Negative Feedback: It's tough when we hear criticism or negative stuff from others. Sometimes, even if it's meant to be helpful, we take it to heart and start blaming ourselves even more. It's like we amplify that self-blame.

Imposter Syndrome: Ever feel like you're not really as good as people think you are? Yeah, that's imposter syndrome for you. Even when we achieve something, we doubt ourselves and end up blaming ourselves for not being good enough.

Unrealistic Expectations: We've all done it - set these crazy high expectations for ourselves. But when reality doesn't match up, it's like a punch in the gut. We end up disappointed and then, you guessed it, blaming ourselves for not reaching those impossible goals.

Body Image Issues: Man, society's beauty standards can really mess with our heads, can't they? Constantly bombarded with images of perfection, it's no wonder we start blaming ourselves for not looking a certain way. It's like we're never good enough.

Lack of Boundaries: It's hard to say no sometimes, right? We end up taking on too much, burning ourselves out, and then blaming ourselves for not being able to handle it all. We gotta learn to set those boundaries and give ourselves a break.

Fear of Rejection: Who likes feeling left out or not fitting in? Nobody, that's who. But when we start blaming ourselves for not being accepted, it's like adding insult to injury. We gotta cut ourselves some slack and realize we're not always gonna click with everyone.

Negative Childhood Experiences: Our past can really mess with our heads, huh? Especially if we had a rough time growing up. Those early experiences stick with us, shaping how we see ourselves and yeah, sometimes leading to self-blame down the line. It's tough, but we gotta work through it.

These verses can serve as sources of inspiration and encouragement for those seeking positive affirmations from the bible

  1. Philippians 4:13 (NIV):
    • "I can do all this through him who gives me strength."
  2. Psalm 139:14 (NIV):
    • "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."
  3. Isaiah 41:10 (NIV):
    • "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
  4. Romans 8:37 (NIV):
    • "No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us."
  5. Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV):
    • "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope."
  6. Psalm 34:17-18 (NIV):
    • "The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
  7. Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV):
    • "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
  8. Matthew 11:28 (NIV):
    • "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."

Positive affirmations can be impactful without being overly cliché. Here are five affirmations that can say to uplift yourself:

  1. I am capable and resilient. I can handle whatever comes my way with grace and strength.
  2. My worth is not determined by my productivity. I am valuable just as I am, and I deserve to prioritize self-care.
  3. I trust in my abilities and believe in my potential. Each day, I am becoming the best version of myself.
  4. I embrace progress, not perfection. I celebrate my efforts, and I am proud of the journey I'm on.
  5. I am deserving of happiness, love, and success. I attract positive opportunities, and I am open to the abundance of life.

This podcast is all about what has gone on since the last podcast was released on June 1 of 2022. I discuss format changes it’s going to happen on this podcast along with the new schedule being released every two weeks instead of every week. I would like you to think about a few things before the next podcast what brings you the most joy in your life? What’s one or two things that you can do that would bring you the most happiness question And also what are one or two things you would like to change for the year? I also discussed coming up with one word that would describe the year. I’ve kind of landed on the word, it is transition for me. Now, you don’t have to do this for the whole year matter of fact just do it for 3 months at a time.

And I guess my overall message for this podcast is that we all struggle and have things that we have to fight through let’s not focus on the pain or frustration but focus on what we can do to get through the struggle to get through the pain. What is God trying to teach us through this? Always look at each situation as a way to grow and improve as a person

Psalm 37:23-24 “The LORD makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand

Which spiritual or emotional season are you experiencing right now? Just as we experience the changing natural seasons, we are also subject to changing experiential seasons in our life.

We can find great encouragement in identifying which season we are currently experiencing.

There is just something about knowing that we are not the only ones who are going (or have gone) through especially difficult times.

We also experience seasons of great joy and celebration.

One thing we can know for sure—no matter which season we are experiencing, it will change.

Life is not static.

The changing seasons of our lives are not haphazard but ordained to accomplish His purposes in our lives: “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven” (Eccl. 3:10 NKJV).

Although we generally prefer one season to another, there are pros and cons within each that bring a nice overall balance to our lives.

What are our beliefs? A belief system is an ideology or set of principles that helps us to interpret our everyday life. These beliefs are shaped and influenced your life.
Stop Stinking thinking

  • Positive mindset- it’s not just about being positive its finding the good in the bad
  • How is life happening for you – Life is happening for you not to you.
  • Mindset and our internal self-talk
  • You have to want to change, you have to want to see the good

Where to they come from?

  • Environment
  • Events - The birth of your child, promotion, a death of a loved one.
  • Knowledge
  • Past Results
  • Future Vision

How to Replace Limiting Beliefs with Empowering Ones

  1. Pick a limiting belief and think about how that belief has held you back and worked against you. Write it down!

  2. How has this limiting belief hurt you? Think of some evidence that proves that the belief is false. Spend some time thinking about this until you know that your limiting belief was not based on reality or FACTS.

  3. Replace your limiting or negative belief with an empowering and positive one. You let go of your old limiting belief, admit that it was false and limiting you, and you start believing in your heart and in your mind that people are generally honest by nature.

  4. Remind yourself of your new beliefs every day Several times a day. The more you consciously remind yourself of your new beliefs, think and feel them in your core, the faster you will be able to replace the old ones. The more you practice this, the sooner your subconscious mind will start inducing corresponding empowering thoughts, feelings and actions.

Our belief systems are powerful and affect almost everything we think, feel and do. When we make the time and effort to closely examine them, we are able to single out the ones that prevent us from living the life we deserve to live.

Health Its not just about diets but about Sleep, Breathing, Resting, Quality of Food, Drinking Water Rest Rest is one of the greatest gifts God gave to mankind. Rest is synonymous to peace. Naturally, we link rest with sleep. But I think we should look at rest more like we of stop doing what we are doing AND start placing our trust in peace and love. to start BEING the person we are called to be to reset our being. Like resting in God. It is placing trust and faith in him. In the work that’s He has already been done. I think daily we should rest in our God to spend with him that can take forms in many ways. Reading, Gardening, Walking, Sitting or however you find peace and tranquility. What about thinking how we can stop stressing and worrying ? To learn to work each problem the best we can then once we have done that we stand trusting life will all work its self out or as we rest more will be revealed for us to do. But not worried or stressing Breathing To keep it short We often don’t breath like we should during covid I was taught we don't breath correctly and they have me doing breathe exercises. With a deep breaths in through your nose and blowing out slowly threw your mouth like blowing threw a straw do that 10 times. The Wim Hof technique One round of the Wim Hof Method breathing technique includes these steps:

  1. Take in a strong inhalation through the nose.
  2. Let out a relaxed exhalation through the mouth.
  3. Repeat for 30 breaths.
  4. On the 30th breath, exhale to 90 percent and hold for as long as you can.
  5. When you feel your body really needs to take a breath, inhale fully and hold for 15 seconds before releasing.
  6. The basic technique involves three consecutive rounds of the above.

Eventually, the breathing may feel like a wave flowing through your lungs, but this will take practice. Proponents say the technique can lead to:

  • increased immunity
  • better sleep
  • reduced stress
  • heightened focus

https://youtu.be/tybOi4hjZFQ or https://www.wimhofmethod.com/breathing-exercises

Water Most of us don't drink enough water and we are in a state dehydration we should drink around 1 gallon of water every day. Signs of mild or moderate dehydration include:

  • Thirst
  • Dry or sticky mouth
  • Not peeing very much
  • Dark yellow pee
  • Dry, cool skin
  • Headache
  • Muscle cramps

Signs of severe dehydration include:

  • Not peeing or having very dark yellow pee
  • Very dry skin
  • Feeling dizzy
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Rapid breathing
  • Sunken eyes
  • Sleepiness, lack of energy, confusion or irritability
  • Fainting

We tend to think that dehydration looks like fainting, severe headaches, and being hooked up to an IV. But the truth is that the majority of us (more than 75% of adults!) are living with chronic mild dehydration, which means our bodies are being forced to operate with less fluid than they require. A decrease in your hydration as little as 1-3% can result in a measurable cognitive loss and not only can it lead to the ailments listed above, it can also lead to more serious health concerns and disease.

Quality of Food * It is high in sugar and calories and low in nutrients and fibre. It can, over time, lead to insulin resistance, triglycerides, harmful cholesterol and other health issues. * Processed foods are very addictive because companies do research to see what tickles our taste buds the most. They incorporate it into their foods to encourage us to eat it more. * It contains artificial ingredients like preservatives and additives that are not nutritious and are harmful to health.

Sleep 6-8 hours of sleep is important we need all the sleeping cycles not just partial night sleep, while we sleep we heal, we lose weight, our body rebuilds it self. Matthew Walker offers five key tips to help your future be filled with an easier sleeping process:

  • Try to maintain regularity. Go to bed at the same time every night and wake up at the same time every morning.
  • We need darkness in the evening to allow the release of a hormone called melatonin. Melatonin helps us maintain a healthy sleep time. Therefore, try to dim down half the lights in your home in the hour before bed.
  • Keep your sleeping environment as cool as possible. An optimal temperature is about 68 degrees Fahrenheit Your brain and body need to drop their core temperature by about two or three degrees Fahrenheit to initiate good sleep. Hence, you’ll always find it easier to fall asleep in a room that’s too cold than too hot.
  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine. Alcohol is perhaps the most misunderstood drug when it comes to sleep. People believe it helps them fall asleep. That’s not true. Alcohol is a type of sedative, which means alcohol is basically just knocking your brain out. You’re not putting it into natural sleep. Research suggests that alcohol will fragment your sleep. So, you’ll wake up many more times throughout the night. Finally, alcohol also blocks dream sleep. Caffeine is also a problem. Many of us know that caffeine can keep us awake as it is a stimulant. However, few people know that even if you fall asleep fine and maybe you stay asleep after a coffee, the depth of your deep sleep will be lessened.
  • Do not stay in bed, awake. If you haven’t fallen asleep within 20 or so minutes, or you’ve woken up and you’re finding it difficult to fall back asleep, don’t stay in bed awake. Your brain quickly learns an association between your bed and being awake. Therefore, get up and go to another room.

“The shorter your sleep, the shorter your life. The leading causes of disease and death in developed nations—diseases that are crippling health-care systems, like heart disease, obesity, dementia, diabetes, and cancer—all have recognized causal links to a lack of sleep.” – Matthew Walker

So this week I talk about resting and reset.
I want to encourage you to find a way to rest and reset.
That may mean that we need to look at our goals reevaluate them or even re-defined them.
Rest and reset can provide a course correction and this is what shipping and airliners do to make sure they are on the correct course and based on the correct data and observation they adjust to course to their destination.
Because life tends to get us a bit off course once in a while.

I think Rest can look different depending on the person, what you’re going through, so let’s not look at the normal idea of resting as not doing nothing BUT could include that.
Thank about what are some ways you can destress or reevaluate where you’re at?
and I also think we need to work this in our daily lives, either weekly or daily spend time in "REST"

Below are some ideas that might help you rest and reset
Suggestions to resting
Take a break from Social media
Getting away alone
Do something fun
Get enough sleep
Spend time with Family & Friends
Read a book
Find a way to de-stress

This week I talk about the compounding effect of making the right decision and how we make our life better not by big leaps but by daily choices

John 16:33 NIV “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”   “A daily routine built on good habits and disciplines separates the most successful among us from everyone else. A routine is exceptionally powerful.”

This week I explain what was going on and what I learned.

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”Ephesians 6:10-13 (NIV)

This week I talk about the 4 battlefields we all struggle with

Some days it is totally obvious but other days it is subtle or not even noticeable. We are in a battle. It may not be one that we can see, but none-the-less, it is real.

  1. Emotional battles- dealing with love, pain, disappointment, and hurt feeling.
  2. Intellectual battles of the mind - our self talk, feeling loved, fears and most of all over thinking.
  3. Physical battles of what to eat, how to eat , pain in our body's, cancer, other healthy issues.
  4. Spiritual battlefield. Ultimately this is an eternal life or death battle. Christians find their security in Christ; however, there is a real, day-to-day battle of flesh versus spirit which affects our peace of mind.

Half the battle is the awareness OF THE battle. This is not a “one and done” fight. It is an ongoing daily fight. We don’t get to “get it and set it”.

You know a lot of times we forget that our mind is like a garden. We forget to attend and take care of our thoughts were thinking about We forget to weed the garden out of the stuff that tries to come in and at the same time we are afraid to grow new things in our garden. Were are afraid to look at things differently and so sometimes we have to give plants opportunities to grow when they don’t look good so all these are analogies for things that we think about and focus on in our minds to see new insights on how we deal with things to help us change our way of thinking.

Taking small steps will create clarity by either going in the wrong direction if you can realize this is not right.

Each step can and will move us to our goals most of life we need to figure things out not everything will work for us as it has for others we need to adapt their steps if we are following someone else's steps and tweak them to fit ours.

Most of us forget to enjoy the journey and embrace who we are and find the answers within.

sometimes like I share in the podcast we have to step out of our comfort zone to live and thrive.

The Miracle Morning

This week I discuss my thought of this book and how it can help our lives.

Hal Elrod coined the acronym “SAVERS” to help us remember each aspect of the ideal morning routine. Do a few of these already?

  • Silence/Meditation
  • Affirmation
  • Visualizations
  • Exercise
  • Reading
  • Scribing

My suggestion for you would be to try to wake up 30 minutes earlier and do all of the SAVERS for 5 minutes each. As you become more comfortable waking up earlier and you begin to want to spend more time in your miracle morning,  Customize it to fit you and your taste. Right now I am spending

  • Silence – 5 min
  • Affirmations – 5 min
  • Visualization – 5 min
  • Exercise – 20-min
  • Reading – 20-min

This week on the podcast I talked about how actions are important. But our words bring life but the action we take is what molds the words into life. Words without action will not create results if you want results anything you do you have to take.
If we’re not careful in taking action then we can start having wishful thinking. Wishful thinking is that just that it’s a wish.
But when we want and desire, have a passion for things, then we create plans whether we realize it or not to bring them to life.
whether it is planting a garden, building a birdhouse, whether it is cleaning your house how about buying a new car all of those things have plans and actionable items.
Often times we fail for lack of plans but sometimes we fail for lack of action or taking the wrong action.

I believe we should take action on what brings us peace and joy for the level where we are at, maybe some of us are not ready for the same level of action others are taking. But that does not mean that we should not take any action so let us level up and take action and take pride in our words.

This week on level yourself up. I talk about my friend Jeff overpack some things that I've seen him practice I can't say that I've been taught this by him but it's things that he's definitely lived in his life and so reinforced. You know I think some of the times that we don't value our friends until they're gone. He truly was a gift. In my life, and a friend. So join me this week, as I just share three things that stood out to me as who he is, as a person. There's plenty of more that he demonstrated in his life, that I wouldn't even have time to put in this podcast. I did. Attach a link to the sermon, he had prepared since he was an elder at a church. And he had someone else preach it for him. Click here to see Video

On the podcast this week, I shared with you three ways that you can adjust or Grow from setbacks.
I share with you three things you can do if we're having setbacks. And most of us are having setbacks in our life with coronavirus. You know there is a lot of people out of work, things we don't understand or are afraid of.
But now is not the time to slumber now's not a time to be afraid. Now is the time to maybe look at things a little bit differently. So here are three ways that we can do to grow from having setbacks,
1 Ask yourself what have you learned from this situation and just write make out a list and write some things down things you've learned from your setbacks.
2 You can ask Do you need a course correction, maybe you've set some goals, maybe you haven't. And maybe you want to create new goals. So now is the time to ask Do I need a course correction on what I'm trying to achieve in this world.
3 You can look through the things that you wrote down about what you have learned and maybe the things you need to do for course correction. See if you have any fear around that. And if you have fear around those goals, or around those actions you need to take, then you need to put that fear under your feet and kill it.

Hey, you might have noticed this podcast did not get sent out on a Monday mornings like it normally does. And that's because I was not happy with the recording that I had so I decided today rather than release it, I was okay with it being a little late. And so I came home and after spending some time with my family getting some stuff done around the house. I recorded this podcast.

I just want to share with you that you are loved with a great love that there are mercy and grace. At the foot of the cross. And I just want to remind you that when all that is going on and you feel lost and broken. We can look at what's happening. Take some perspective, some inner reflection that maybe this time is just a time of reflection that we need to reset ourselves and to get our eyes to our first love. Then we can look at what's needed. You know, do we need physically needing a thing do we spiritually need something. Does our family or our loved ones need something? What is the need at hand? Not a want, but what's the real need, then we can start praying for how to get those items, then we need to look at what's next what's on the horizon, what do we need to prepare for and also talk a little bit about strongholds. If you wonder what a stronghold is in your life, you can just ask what negative thing has a strong hold in your life? Then I share with you, Romans 8:17 and in Ephesian 3:37.
That the spiritual forces of darkness are always on the clock and committed to cause and make our lives miserable. So grab the breastplate of righteousness and that glorious shield of faith in that all-powerful sword of the Spirit and that mighty helmet of salvation. All the while stand there with your feet fitted for the gospel of peace and stand your ground, let's not have any more negative strongholds on your watch. God bless.

This week on level yourself up. Episode 59, we discuss the reset in March, or what I want to call the march reset. So with that, we're talking about how we need to trust God, to get us through these times that we need to seek His kingdom first and everything that he's doing for us that he will provide. I shared Matthew chapter six verses 26 through 34. So let us just pray for Israel for the world. And for the United States for the country that we live in, that God would heal our lands that we would repent first. And God would heal our lands that we would seek his face. I do believe this shaking is to warn the church, and the world that we need to prepare. I don't believe it is the end of the world.

Matthew 6:24-34 25“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life? 28And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, 29yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. 30But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ 32For it is the Gentiles who strive for all these things; and indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33But strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34“So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today’s trouble is enough for today.

I also discuss a little about the book I am reading The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry: How to Stay Emotionally Healthy and Spiritually Alive in the Chaos of the Modern World.

This week on episode 58 of level yourself up. I talked about watching the movie The Hobbit, and how things spoke to me, that we should be doing in our business & life. That we should be moved by love and peace, not by fear, we should be looking for opportunities to move in love and peace and find opportunities in these dark times.

I also share phone app  called otter that allows you to record your notes on your phone, and then email them to you or text them to other people. https://otter.ai

Quote Saruman believes it is only great power that can hold evil in check, but that is not what I have found. I found it is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay. Small acts of kindness and love. Why Bilbo Baggins? I don't know. Perhaps because I am afraid, and he gives me courage.

So this week in review of the last few weeks I've been pondering about how I set myself up for failure through expectations of myself, that I impose on other people so I share with you some of my thoughts about expectations and how we need to give grace and mercy to ourselves.

Stop Anxiety by Adjusting Expectations

Old expectations trigger your cortisol, but you can adjust them.

Anxiety is caused by our own expectations more than we realize. For example, a pothole in the road causes huge anxiety if you drive right into it, but if you see it in advance it’s manageable. So anxiety is caused by the expectation of a flat road when that fails to fit the facts.

Of course, expecting potholes all the time would not relive anxiety either. Realistic expectations are the key to a smooth ride. But how can our expectations be realistic when the world is unpredictable?

“When you stop expecting people to be perfect, you can like them for who they are.”
― Donald Miller, A Million Miles in a Thousand Years: What I Learned While Editing My Life

“We were promised sufferings. They were part of the program. We were even told, 'Blessed are they that mourn,' and I accept it. I've got nothing that I hadn't bargained for. Of course it is different when the thing happens to oneself, not to others, and in reality, not imagination.”
― C.S. Lewis, A Grief Observed

Romans 8:28 ESV

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

Ephesians 2:8-9 ESV

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

This week I talk about how to handle setbacks

When I was thinking about this week podcast I came up with 10 things you can do to help so your setbacks don't throw you into a free fall or make you want to stop and giving up your goals or whatever it is you're trying to work forward to.

  • Expect discomfort we will have resistance
  • Failure is part of moving forward
  • Evaluate what is going on never for reflect with trusted mentors or friends
  • When making decisions think our plan for obstacles anticipate problems
  • What can you control? Focus on what you can't control.
  • Rest and have fun sometimes it's good just to get away from your problems.
  • Keep a positive attitude
  • Be open minded to new Approaches except constructive criticism
  • Be responsible take the responsibility for what is your fault and if it is not your fault just leave it there and don't blame others how can you move forward.

Quote from Richard Branson “entrepreneurs should learn to embrace failure with open arms and deal with obstacles by breaking them down into their smallest components and trying to then positively affect each part."

So this week on the podcast we talk about renewing our minds that we shouldn't think like everyone else thinks that we need to learn to think like our mentors and most of all like Jesus. Maybe we need to renew our goals and look at some of the things that were trying to do but it never hurts to revisit and renew our goals on a daily basis. Romans12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. who or what is the opposition
who or what are our allies?
Change uses external influences to modify actions but transformation modifies beliefs so actions become natural and thereby achieve the desired result.

This week I answer 2 questions I have been asked

How I Fight procrastination and how to I create passwords and mange them.

Basic over view is

  • A password should have 10 Characters, Minimum: You need to choose a password that’s long enough. There’s no minimum password length everyone agrees on, but you should generally go for passwords that are a minimum of 10 to 12 characters in length. A longer password would be even better.
  • Includes Numbers, Symbols, Capital Letters, and Lower-Case Letters: Use a mix of different types of characters to make the password harder to crack.
  • One that Isn’t a Dictionary Word or Combination of Dictionary Words: Stay away from obvious dictionary words and combinations of dictionary words. Any word on its own is bad. Any combination of a few words, especially if they’re obvious, is also bad. For example, “password” is a terrible password. “green dog” is also very bad.
  • Doesn’t Rely on Obvious Substitutions: Don’t use common substitutions, either — for example, “H0use” isn’t strong just because you’ve replaced an o with a 0. That’s just obvious.

This week I thought we should dive a little deeper into the being in a state of learning.

We talk about a fixed mindset and a growth mindset.

Which mindset do you have?

  • Do you see failure is the limit of your abilities ?
  • That either you're good at something or you're not ?
  • You don't like to be challenged ?
  • Either you can do something or you can't?
  • Do you believe that your potential is pre-determined ?
  • When you get frustrated do you give up?
  • Do you believes feedback and criticism are personal?
  • Do you stick to only what you know?

A growth mindset

  • Failure is a opportunity to grow
  • Can learn to do with anything I want
  • Challenges help me to grow
  • My effort and attitude determines my abilities
  • Feedback is constructive
  • Inspired by the success of others
  • like to try new things

Quote of the week is from Dr. Chuck Missler "The only barrier to truth is the presumption that you already have it."

017 Five basic steps we need to have in place to transform our mindset. 1. Recognize you don’t know everything always look to improve. 2. You don’t know what you don’t know 3. Stay in a state of learning -Learning from everyone learning what works and what doesn’t work. 4. Our own failures and mistakes could be the seeds of success. 5. To own our successes this is probably the most important step to set little monuments and victories along the way to help guard against negativity also finding the importance of learning to survive in the valleys of our life.

Hebrew word for prayer - Tefillah - means to "self evaluate” Romans 12.2 -“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” ‭ Quote of the week by Rick Warren - Transformation is a process, and as life happens there are tons of ups and downs. It's a journey of discovery - there are moments on mountaintops and moments in deep valleys of despair.

My podcast mission statement

To help my listeners improve their life, business and health by providing quality content to give them the tools to change their mindset that may hold them back, to  encourage them to take action and to celebrate their victories.

  • For your life
  • For your business
  • For large goals

Because life can get overwhelming, hard, painful, and frustrating a mission statement will help give us direction in those times; to remind us of our purpose. It’ll help us get clarity with our own story. It might help us to say yes or no to different things that come up. It can help guide towards your next goals, projects, and also remind you that you ARE making a difference.

03 show notes
In this episode I discuss my thoughts of having enough and how to use frustration as leverage.
That there’s nothing wrong with questioning to find the right path for you or if your resources are limited there is always a ways to get started. The way you start may not be to the level like or want but it’s a start
