On the days when I’m feeling uninspired, I often listen to a podcast, flip through a book or search through quotes for inspiration. You can then share that quote and that can also be a motivational piece of content.

2️⃣ IMAGE Post Templates Use their social media templates to incorporate your images, diagrams, quotes and text overlays. I like their 1080x1080px Instagram templates. They work well on LinkedIn.
3️⃣ VIDEO Templates They’ve added video templates. It makes it so easy to overlay text and graphics on top of your videos. It’s not an extensive editing tool but it can handle the simple jobs.

What's your favorite video editing tool? That's one of the questions I've been getting a lot.
It depends on the level of complexity you want on your videos.
🔸Level 1 - iMovie If you're just starting out, keep it simple. It's the content that matters. Not snazzy graphics. iMovie is quick, simple and free.
🔸Level 2 - Videoshop This is an app for the phone and it's great for editing on the go. You can do vertical videos, overlays and fancy transitions. It has more features than iMovie. $3.99/month subscription.
🔸Level 3 - Camtasia I use this software when I do a lot of corporate training. It's my favorite editing software. It's intuitive and user-friendly. You can add screen recordings, voiceovers, highlights, zoom-ins and more. $250 for the software + access to extensive video and audio asset library.
🔸Level 4 - Adobe Premiere Pro This is for experts. I don't use this tool but both my video editors do and it's the reason you see all those great fly-ins, motion graphics, video clips and fun graphics on these weekly videos. It's quite complex so it's more suitable for extensive editing.

I can make a point about being passionate about supporting girls and women in technology.
However, that’s not enough.
I also want to support my point with a story:
Growing up, I loved math and science. I was a total geek.
But I didn’t know what a career looked like with that passion.
It wasn’t until a female engineer came to my high school and spoke about the many facets of engineering that I realized how I can apply my love of math and science.
This stranger changed the trajectory of my life.
Back in 1998, only 25% of my engineering class were females. Today, that statistic is not much higher, if not lower.
So whenever I have opportunities to speak with girls about a career in technology or support them in some way, I rarely say no.
Notice the power of a story.
Go ahead, tell your stories.
Share your experiences.
I guarantee it will stay with people much longer than a singular point.

By commenting on other people's feeds, it's an effective way to start networking with content creators, potential employers, potential colleagues, thought leaders, industry experts, potential clients and much more.
Reply to every comment that you get on your own post too. It helps to build rapport and a relationship with your audience. It's a great way to engage your LinkedIn community.
Comments can lead to messages, which lead to phone calls, and even jobs and clients.
I've met wonderful connections, job candidates, clients, collaborators, partners, vendors and friends - all starting from a simple comment.
Spend 10-20mins a day commenting and you'll start to see your network and influence grow.

Are you fearful of getting on video? When you first start doing videos, fear is likely going to stop you.
Here's 5 tips to overcoming the fear:
🔶1) Trust Yourself - Know that you have something of value to share, you have a message that someone needs to hear. It doesn't matter what level you're at, you are enough.
🔶2) Focus Out, Don't Focus In - When we focus in, we're worried about how we sound, how we look, whether we'll be judged. When we focus out, we ask ourselves how can we help somebody today, how can we say something to be of service.
🔶3) Practice - Practice, practice, practice. Walk around the house and record yourself. Stare at that black dot on your smartphone, stare at your webcam when you speak.
🔶4) Do It With Someone Else - Interview someone on video or record the Zoom session. Make it a question & answer format. You don't need to do it alone.
🔶5) #DoItScared - The fear never really goes away. Lean into the discomfort and do it anyways.

What have you learned from your mistakes?
I look back at one of my early videos from 3 years ago and highlight 5 mistakes and the lessons learned when it comes to recording #videos:
❌ Bad audio - Audio is so important. 🎤 Even more than video. At the very least, make sure you have a lapel mic to give you clear & crisp sound.
❌ Image not focused - If there’s a speaker, make sure the face is focused. On a smartphone, tap on the face of the subject to focus. 🔎 Backgrounds can be slightly blurry.
❌ Recording outside - Unless you have a great mic, external noises can be distracting. I recorded beside a construction zone with beeping trucks! 🚛
❌ Distractions - Windy conditions and external factors can leave us flustered. It was cold and the November wind 💨 was whipping my hair into my face. I was already nervous so it got distracting! Find calm conditions to ease your nerves.
❌ Mispronunciations - Make sure you pronounce your guests names properly & practice. I was so nervous. If you say it wrong, then correct yourself on camera. 🤦🏻♀️

Earlier on in my career doing #communications and #training, I realized that people learn in different ways and it affects how long they can retain that knowledge. These techniques can also guide you in different ideas for #contentcreation :
🟧1️⃣ VISUAL These people learn by seeing. Videos, photos, diagrams, images, infographics, etc all help this type of learner.
🟧2️⃣ AUDITORY These individuals learn by hearing and speaking. Podcasts, audio books, voice messages, voice memos, etc are all great ways to cater to these audiences.
🟧3️⃣ WRITING & READING Who loves to read and take notes? This style is for you. #LinkedIn articles, blogs, shared articles, long copy posts, etc appeal to this group.
🟧4️⃣ KINESTHETIC Do you learn better by doing? I’ve seen wellness & fitness coaches do demos on this platform. We usually know this part.
However, we often forget to include content for the heart, even on a professional platform like #LinkedIn.
Content for the heart includes:
💙stories of failures and lessons
💙something heart felt
💙pain points and triumph
💙challenges and how we overcame them
💙our journeys and how we felt along the way
HEAD: For example, I often tell people about how only 3% - 5% of LinkedIn users post content on a weekly basis. Whereas 47% are monthly active users and looking around on LinkedIn. So the demand for content (47%) is so much higher than the supply of content (3-5%).
HEART I also stress the importance of sharing your lessons and leaving a legacy. Being the quiet kid growing up, I was afraid to speak up. The older I get, I more I want to lift others up and empower them to create content and share their message with the world. Talk to their hearts and heads and your content becomes richer and more engaging.

✅ Support other people's journeys and engage on their posts.
⏩ That's how you showcase your value and build trust with your audience along the way.
⏩ After you've given value, then ask people to check out your website, sign up for a newsletter, download a white paper, buy your products or services, etc. Give 5 times, before you ask.

How long to get into the flow of content creation or any new habit?
It usually takes 3 months to form a new habit.
Creating content is a long game that takes patience & consistency.
You'll have lots of emotions going through the #contentcreation journey so recognize these 5-phases:
1) FEAR 🔶 When you start, you'll likely experience fear of the unknown, judgement, making mistakes, etc. This is normal. Despite all the videos I've created, I still got nervous doing my first #LinkedInLive video back in March.
2) FRUSTRATION 🔶 We'll also experience frustration because we’re uncomfortable, things are unfamiliar and we’re trying something new.
3) LEARN 🔶 This is when you start to learn. You research what you're trying to do, learn from books/articles/webinars/videos to get better at your new habit or hire a coach. You’ll fix your mistakes.
4) DISCOVERY 🔶 2 months in, you’re going to discover your voice, what you really want to say and who you really are. You’ll start to realize how you want to impact the world. This is my favorite phase.
5) GROWTH 🔶 You’re going to hit a new level of familiarity with content creation and you’ll get bigger and better. Every week, add little improvements.

What is the background in your videos? My #ContentTips of the Week this Monday is about background settings. When you're starting out in your #video #contentcreation journey, you'll likely go through this:
⏩1️⃣ AD-HOC / ON LOCATION When you begin, use your smart phone and record a short video clip or selfie at an event, conference, walking down the office hallway, etc.
Or you can sit at your desk at your home or office. These are all different backgrounds you can do to start off.
⏩2️⃣ HOME / OFFICE STUDIOS As you get more familiar with video and consistent with your content, then it's time to set up a home / office studio where your audio equipment, cameras, lights are always set up and you can record regularly.
⏩3️⃣ PROFESSIONAL STUDIOS If you want to further up your video game, then consider taping at professional studios like Jeff Crilley's studios at Real News Public Relations in the #Dallas area. They have professional grade equipment and behind the scenes producers to handle all the mechanics and logistics of the video shoot. All you have to do is show up and do what you do best - sharing your expertise and creating value for the audience.

3 Parts of a Post: Did you know there’s a formula to writing a post? Here’s how I break it down into 3 parts.
🔸1️⃣ HEADLINE The first sentence of your post is your headline. 🛑Make it attention grabbing so it stops someone from scrolling by! 🛑 Write it in the form of a question that you get asked a lot. Or 3 tips to ... or 5 mistakes to avoid when ... or 7 pieces of advice to ... All great ways to start a post.
🔸2️⃣ BODY The second part is the body of the post. The details or the meat of the main content. Do it in the form of a list with bright emoji bullets. Or do it in short little paragraphs with lots of spacing. It helps people to skim and capture an idea quickly.
🔸3️⃣ QUESTION / CALL TO ACTION End your post with a question asking for the audience’s input or thoughts. Or have a Call To Action (CTA) to ask them to follow, connect, sign up, attend an event or visit your website or something similar.
BONUS TIP: Don’t immediately ask people for something or to sell. Earn trust first by providing value.

Are you a cautious person?
Do you study, research and think things through before jumping in? I take small steps and then build up from there.
There’s nothing wrong with starting small. The trick is to constantly take action though.
For those of you that are cautious to post content on LinkedIn, I suggest you start small and move up these phases of content:
1️⃣ Comment - Not sure what to post? Just start by commenting on posts from content creators that you enjoy and that tie into your industry.
2️⃣ Share Articles - Find articles that reinforce your expertise, that you find interesting, that would be of value to your target audience. Share them from The New York Times, Forbes, Fast Company, industry sites, etc.
3️⃣ Text Posts - You have 1300 characters to type something. Do this especially if you like writing short form written content.
4️⃣ Image Posts - Take photos of events you attend, people you meet, books you’ve read and tie it to your expertise and pieces of advice.
5️⃣ Video - Once you’ve worked your way through 1️⃣, 2️⃣, 3️⃣, and 4️⃣ then try your hand at video!
