"Never Let You Go (For Kathryn B)" is a new song that I've written for my amazing wife, Kathryn, to celebrate her birthday.
It's a lullaby / synthpop song, which is influenced by bands like OMD, Kraftwerk, Human League, and early Depeche Mode.
It's quite a departure from my dub/downtempo instrumentals and remixes, and has me on lead vocals.
MISTRUST is Tim Blackburn aka mistrust. I’ve done official remixes for Pitch Black, Banco de Gaia, Animat, International Observer, and more. I've been a part of the ever-growing Electronic Music Open Mic Nights collective since it began. I'll be forever grateful to everyone who let me loose on their amazing tracks

and it's about being homeless - something that happened to me and my wife last year. Fortunately we now have somewhere to live, so I'm using the song to raise awareness about homelessness, particularly about people like me who have a good job but end up without a roof over their head. Especially at Christmas. It's the 2025 re-edit of the song I released last year. This version features the voices of the people who are involved in supporting people in need of help, and someone who has been helped by The Whitechapel Centre in Liverpool. All money from sales of the track will be donated to The Whitechapel Centre and other homeless charities in the north west of England.
What's it all about? This song is from my upcoming EP which is the third and final in a series of limited edition CD releases to commemorate and celebrate the Class 507 and 508 electric trains in Liverpool region that have been in service for over 40 years, and are now being scrapped. It's about nostalgia, and life. These trains have carried people to school, work, hospital appointments, and social events. Relationships, marriages, even babies, have been conceived on these trains. The EP has also reunited me with an old school friend after 40 years of not being in touch! My friend Pete Allen (aka Found Object on Bandcamp) agreed to do a remix/reworking of the title track "Yellow and Grey". Fellow Bandcamper, Jess Brett, who is English, and now lives in Berlin, has provided vocals for the song in German, as a nod to Trans Europa Express by Kraftwerk
When I released my song "Yellow and Grey" in 2023, little did I know that it would become such a popular song with music fans, and with fans of the Merseyrail Class 507 and 508 electric trains that the song is about.I wrote the song as not only a tribute to those trains, but as a nod to the all-time classic train song "Trans Europa Express" by Kraftwerk. It's an iconic song about an iconic train, which sounds far better being listened to in the original German language version. So in true fan mode, I decided to record a version of "Yellow and Grey" with German lyrics, despite not being able to speak German myself!Not entirely satisfied with this version, I contacted two friends whose music is inspired by Kraftwerk, and one of whom now lives in Germany, and asked them to come up with a new version of "Yellow and Grey" which sounded like a proper tribute to Kraftwerk and Trans Europa Express. I will be donating all proceeds from sales of "LIFE" to The Whitechapel Centre homeless charity in Liverpool. Whether they can no longer afford their mortgages, or have been living in rented accommodation and being been told to leave by their landlords. The local authority housing teams can't help them, and they can't afford to rent privately, so they're having to stay long-term with relatives or friends.I will be performing this new version of Life for the first time at "Primal Live" at Camp and Furnace in Liverpool on Sunday 6th October 2024. New Chester Road (Revisited) - Taken from the forthcoming album "Sunlight (Revisited)"I started playing the original version of New Chester Road (which was on my 2023 album "Sunlight") live at my gigs last year but wanted to try it with a more uptempo, electronic feel. Something a bit more in my Kraftwerk, OMD, and early Human League influenced style.The beat I used in the new version reminded me of the one used in the song “The Quiet Men” by Ultravox in the John Foxx era (one of my favourite songs). I then ended up trying to replicate the stuttering bass line which sounds similar to the one performed by Chris Cross in The Quiet Men. When I heard that Chris had died, I felt that I wanted to pay my own tribute to him. Rather than do a cover version of an Ultravox song, this feels like a more personal thing to do and put out a song which is very much inspired by one of his classic bass lines and influential style.
"Yellow and Grey" recalls Mistrust's recent train journey to Port Sunlight (the historic workers' village in Wirral, UK), on the ageing yellow and grey trains that pass through the village. These trains are being replaced by shiny new modern trains which are also yellow and grey! Hence the line "Yellow and Grey is here to stay!" The song's overall themes are nostalgia and new beginnings!"Yellow and Grey" includes a line from the poem "From a Railway Carriage" by Robert Louis Stevenson (can you spot it?), and there's also a nod to the classic Kraftwerk song "Trans Europe Express" with Mistrust recording a German language version of Yellow and Grey ("gelb und grau") which is released alongside the original song.Both songs are taken from Mistrust's forthcoming album which is out in Spring 2023.Tim Blackburn, the UK singer-songwriter and remixer who records as Mistrust, is back with a new single called "Yellow and Grey". I wrote and recorded loads of "proper" songs in the late 1980s and early 90s, but haven't done anything like this since then.
After numerous instrumentals, I thought it was time I sat down to see if I could actually write a real song!

Rob.V has released a hot new remix of his track ‘New Age’ This is a collaboration with me, U.K based IDM & Dub DJ/Producer ‘Mistrust’. We would love it if you have any feedback or can help to promote the track in any way. The two music producers first began shooting ideas via email mid year in 2021 and it was obvious that this was a good fit. Mistrust aka Tim Blackburn first heard the release of ‘New Age’ back in Nov, 2020 and instantly envisioned his dub down tempo style suiting the track. Rob.V was keen for Tim to take the reins and creatively take it to another place. The result has led to this cool British dub/reggae/downbeat spin on the original moody lockdown track.

I usually only do "official" remixes these days, so this is a rarity - an unofficial reworking/remix of Gary Numan's classic song "Engineers" from his Pleasure Principle album. I made this version in around 2005 for a remix competition on AFENet.com. Probably needs a bit of mastering and the levels sorting....

Original demo for Dubcrazy.....made with Acid Pro, cleared samples, and vst fx. The track came about by accident when I was messing around with an offbeat organ sample and dub type vocal that sounded a bit crazy!

"This Is The Mood (I'm In)" was written and recorded by me in 1985. It was a track on my first demo album called "UVL - Ultra Violent Light". The song was my take on (and tribute to) "Waves" by 80's synth duo "Blancmange" (Neil Arthur and Stephen Luscombe) - one of my favourite bands in the 80s.
This is the original version played and sung live in 1985 at home with overdubs (bouncing tracks between two cassette recorders). It has been transferred directly from the original chrome cassette tape with no effects, no cleaning up or any other treatment. As such, it sounds rough and hissy, so please note that the sound quality isn't great (the recording is nearly 40 years old!)
Instruments used: Casio MT31, Jen SX1000, Kay Memory Rhythm Drum Machine, and cheap headset mic. I'm putting this out there temporarily for nostalgia before I clean up the tapes!
